“Watch your step…” Sandra said, climbing the porch steps. She stood on the veranda and lengthened her hand, offering, “let me help you.”
Sarah grabbed her hands and climbed up. “Thanks.” She uttered with a smile.
Sandra wiped the sweat on Sarah’s forehead with her hands and smiled, looking into her eyes. “Remember all I told you. You’re a strong woman, so make sure you act like one, okay?”
Sarah joggled her head. “Okay.”
“You mustn’t cry. Do you know why?” Sandra forwarded a question.
“Because they aren’t worth it,” Sarah repeated what Sandra sang in her ears on their way to the courthouse. “If anyone is to cry, it should be them. Because I, Sarah, deserve to be happy. Happiness is mine, and I will never trade it.”
Sandra clapped her hands. “Perfect. I didn’t waste my saliva. I taught you right, I guess,” she let out, excited at the expression on Sarah’s face while she delivered those lines. She placed her hand on Sarah’s shoulder and stared into her eyes. “You’re ready, right?”
Sarah nodded. “Yes.”
“3… 2… 1…” Sandra counted down and without wasting another second, Sarah turned around and led into the ground floor.
“Why are you late?”
Rebecca’s question came immediately as they stepped in, and they traced her voice to their left side.
Sandra snickered, seeing Rebecca already walking up to them. “Finally…” she whispered so Sarah wouldn’t hear since she already agreed not to cause a commotion.
Rebecca arrived in their front, with Charles carrying her bag behind her. “We’ve been waiting for over an hour. Why are you just coming? Aren’t we supposed to meet you here or you don’t want to end this marriage yet?”
Sarah smiled. “Rebecca, I want to put an end to this marriage as much as you do. Maybe even more than you want to,” she talked calmly. She paused for a second and added, “But you want my leftover. I’m passing him down to you, so it’s only right you wait.”
“I’m-” Rebecca wanted to talk against Sarah, but Sandra’s laughter interrupted her.
“What a wretched man?” Sandra let out with her withered face on Charles. “Outcome of a lazy man who lives his life off woman. He left his wife to become a loyal dog.”
Rebecca faced Sandra and scoffed. “Busybody, how is an adult choice part of your business?” She challenged. “And even if he becomes my loyal dog, doesn’t it favor him? I’m the CEO of a company. I can afford all his needs without doing five part-time jobs daily.”
Sandra sighed and looked at Rebecca’s face. “I’m not here for you, Rebecca. And if you notice, none of my words are directed at you. I saw you, but you’re meaningless to me so I’ve nothing to discuss with you. All you have to do is avoid me like you did in our college days.” She warned.
Rebecca cracked up. “You can do nothing to me now, Sarah. I’m not who I used to be. Don’t mess with me.”
“That’s true. We were students then and you’re now a CEO, while I’m just a small store owner. A lot has changed because I could still remember who your mother was then,” Sandra said, and knowing what would come next, Rebecca’s expression changed.
“Then, your mother was just a fruit seller at the roadside, rumored to be a chairman’s mistress and now, she’s a legal wife. It’s true I’ll face the consequences if I mess with you. But even in prison, I’ll still ponder about your mother’s secret,” Sandra continued, feeling excited to see pains running around in Rebecca’s eyes. “I wonder if it’s true she knows about the late chairlady’s death…”
She crossed her hand over her chest and moved her head forward a little. “You also heard about the rumor, didn’t you?”
Rebecca’s eyeballs have turned red and moved aggressively on Sandra. “Be careful, what you’ll say!” She warned, her finger pointed at Sandra’s face.
Sarah’s eyes widened, and she covered her mouth with her hands. “Oh,” she pretended to be scared and took a step backward. “I’m sorry,”
She went silent for a second and burst into laughter. “Take that finger down or I’ll bite you!” She threatened with a serious expression. “And I won’t let go until it falls into my mouth.”
Rebecca’s eyes blinked twice, and she quickly took her hands down. “Hun!” She made a sound. She had always been afraid of Sandra since she slapped her in college for abusing others, but she thought Sandra would have changed and was surprised to see she was still the same.
Sandra took a step forward. “Your mother might have successfully squeezed you in to become an heiress, but you should still remember how dangerous I can be,” she advised in a calm tone. “To me, you’re still someone I can correct with a slap. The highest you can do is get me arrested and send me to jail, which I’m not afraid to go to because of my friend,”
“But before the police will get here, I’ll make sure I’ve beaten you into a coma. Did you forget just three slaps made you absent from school then?”
Rebecca took her eyes off Sandra and stepped backward, unable to say a word.
“Hey, Sandra, you don’t talk to her like that,” Charles intervened. He was staying back because he was also scared of Sandra, but he summoned his courage to step forward so Rebecca wouldn’t see him as a weak person. “This is none of your business.”
“And is this a branch of the company she manages?” Sandra gave a savage response, gesturing at Rebecca with her eyebrows. “Isn’t the divorce supposed to be between you and Sarah? Why is she here?”
Charles went silent for a second until a perfect excuse came up in his mind and he instantly split it out. “That’s because she’s my witness. Besides, she got us the lawyer and paid him, so she has every right to be here.”
Sandra clapped her hands. “That’s even then. I’m here as her witness,” she mimicked Charles’s voice. “Besides, I’d a feeling someone may cause chaos, so I followed her to deliver a slap to whoever doesn’t know her lane.”
“Let’s not waste much time. Lead us to the lawyer.” Sarah said to end the argument because she knew Sandra wouldn’t stop talking.

“Good day, Abraham.” Rebecca greeted, stepping into an office with Charles beside her, while Sandra and Sarah walked arm-in-arm behind her.
“Good day, Rebecca.” Abraham responded with his lips filled with a smile.
Rebecca walked to Abraham's front. “I’m here with the couple I told you about,” she pointed to Charles and Sarah.
“Okay,” Abraham faced Sarah. “Please, have your seat.”
“I don’t need it. I don’t want to stay long here. Let’s be fast with everything.” Sarah declined.
“Okay,” Abraham picked two papers from the table. He walked out of his seat and stood between Sarah and Sandra at the left and Rebecca and Charles at the right. “Before I give you the paper to sign, is there anything you’ll need-”
“Nothing. He owes me a lot, but I don’t need compensation.” Sarah let out.
“I’m her witness, and I can testify to it in the future.” Sandra backed her up.
“Okay, then we’ll proceed to signing the paper.” Abraham gave Charles and Sarah a paper each.
Sandra handed Sarah a pen, and she signed on it. “Done,” she uttered and looked at Abraham’s face. “Can I leave already?”
“Sure.” Abraham permitted, and Sarah faced the door and walked out without looking back.

“There’s a movie in the cinema tonight. Should we go watch it?” Sandra asked immediately as they stepped out of the ground floor.
Sarah’s expression had changed since they got out of the office and she didn’t say a word, so Sandra wanted to cheer her up.
Sarah shook her head. “I’m-”
Sandra knew Sarah would reject it, so she didn’t allow her to complete her statement. “A command, not a request. You can’t decline,” she declared. “I won’t let you stay at home alone and cry your eyeballs out,”
She grabbed her hand and walked her down the steps. “Let’s go home first so I can treat you to a delicious meal. It’s been a long time since you've had one. You’ve been living on fast food just to save enough for that ingrate…” she let out and ground her teeth at Charles’s absence.
“If you’re gonna make that a rhythm, why don’t you just accept the compensation f*e?”
A question came from behind and knowing who it was, Sandra breathed down and gazed backward. “If there’s anyone I despise most in this world, I won’t think twice to mention your name.”
Rebecca tinted her lips with a grin and paced closer to them. “You tagged Charles as an ingrate person. We know you need money. Why don’t you swallow your pride? Collect the money and establish yourself,” she said. “Stop making yourself look pitiful. You don’t need it. Do you?”
Sarah inhaled softly. She half-closed her eyes and raised her chin, looking into Rebecca’s eyes. “I never look for pity, Rebecca, and even if I ever need one, it won’t be from you,” she uttered. “And let me warn you. You already have what you want. I’ve released him for you so, I see no reason you should ever talk to me again,”
“We’ve no business together, so don’t you ever in your entire life get in my way.”
Rebecca crossed her hands over her chest and cracked up. “Is that a threat?” She asked. She bent her head to the left a little and smiled discreetly, asking, “and Sarah, what will happen if I decide to keep getting in your way?”
“Then get your weapon ready because once you stand in her way, you’re getting into a battle with me,”
An authoritative voice arrived in their midst, and before they could raise their gazes to see who it was, Harold paced closer and stood beside Sarah. He filled his lips with a smile and looked at Rebecca’s face.
“No need for an introduction. I’m sure you know who I am, my name, my family, and the position I hold,” he said. He paused and rounded his arms over Sarah’s neck, and moved her body closer to his.
“To make it easier, I’ll introduce myself as a candidate ready to chase after Sarah’s heart. Now that Charles is an old taker, I want to be the rookie... a pioneer…”
Happy reading!
Everyone’s eyes widened in shock and even Sarah had a question in her mind, but she couldn’t pull it out.“Do you know what you’re saying, Harold? How’s that possible?! Do you know her? I bet you don’t know who she is!” Rebecca threw questions, her voice raised in surprise.“A lot has changed, so it’s hard to say whether or not I know who she is… but based on what I know, Sarah is a gem. A rare one that I may regret losing again. However, who she’s become doesn’t matter,” Harold talked with a calm tone. “But to make her mine, I don’t mind studying her as a course for whatever years it may take.”Charles moved forward, standing beside Rebecca. “What do you think you’re doing, man?” He challenged.“Defending who I want,” Harold gave a simple response. He knew Charles challenged him, but he kept his voice cool. He authoritatively raised his eyebrows and gave Charles a side look, throwing a question. “Is there a crime in that?”“Charles, I’m not here to fight you or anyone else. You aren’
‘What’s he doing?!’ A question popped up in Sarah’s head even though she already guessed right, but her mind refused to free her body to take any action and she kept staring at him as his lips got closer to hers.‘You gotta do something, girl!’ She heard Sandra’s voice in her head. She shook her head, and with an almost non-existent gap between their lips, she moved her head backward and opened the door.“Oh, my. What am I thinking?” She soliloquized as quickly opened the door. She rushed down from the car and slammed the door behind her. She placed her hand on her shoulder and panted for a second before she turned around to the house.Harold moved his head backward. He closed his eyes and discharged a deep breath. He got out of the car and rushed after her, who had already stepped into the compound covered with a wooden fence.“I’m sorry, Sarah… ” he apologized and grabbed her hand from behind. “I didn’t mean to-”She glanced backward at him and forced a smile on her face. “What are
-A few days later-Sarah heard a knock on the door and came out of the bedroom. “Who's there?” she asked, but heard no response, so she already knew it was Sandra.Sandra insisted Sarah should move in with her so she could monitor her. She promised to provide for her until delivery and forbade her from doing any chores- all she wanted was for Sarah to have an adequate rest.Sarah paced to the door and opened it with her lips filled with a beam. Immediately, she pulled the curtain and saw Sandra’s expression; her smile vanished. “What’s wrong?”Sandra ignored Sarah’s question and entered. She placed her bag on the table and fell her bottom onto the sofa. “I’m tired.” She uttered, relaxing her head on the headrest.Sarah watched Sandra for a few seconds and she closed the door. She pulled the curtain and walked to the sofa to sit. “What’s wrong?” She asked, her hand placed on Sandra’s shoulder with her concerned voice matching the worry on her face.“Why did you close early? Did anythin
-A week and a few days later-“Sandra, calm down. I’ll explain everything to you once I return. Please.” Sarah said with her eyes half closed, frustrated with finding herself space to speak since Sandra had been yelling at her over the phone. She knew Sandra wouldn’t listen, so she hung up the call and turned on the ‘do not disturb’ mode.“Don’t worry, I’ll be fine,” Sarah whispered, and without waiting for another second, she walked into the biggest restaurant in the city- The Food Lab- the spot for the aristocracy to wine and dine.Sarah came across a job offer online and applied without Sandra’s consent, so she sneaked out to attend the interview.“You can do this, Sarah.” She encouraged herself, facing the restaurant's main entrance. She entered the ground floor and saw a lady in a short skirt with a white shirt and wine coat, so she assumed she was a worker. She wore a smile and approached her. “Good day. I’m Sarah and I’m here for the interview. Please, which way should I go?”T
“I don’t have time to waste so, your daughter has until the countdown of three,” Sarah proclaimed. She exhaled softly and raised her index finger. “One,”“Two,”Rebecca closed her eyes and ground her teeth, gripping her skirt as every statement from Mia rang loudly in her head. She didn’t want to lose her opportunity with Mia, especially since Sarah was involved, but no matter how much she tried to convince herself, she couldn’t bring herself to apologize to Sarah.Mia raised the third finger. “T-”Rebecca opened her eyes. “I accept guilt!” She forced the words out of her mouth and exhaled softly, unable to believe she just lost to Sarah. She loosened her hand from her skirt and walked to Sarah’s front. She lowered her gaze and apologized. “Sarah, I’m sorry.”Mia stared at Rebecca. “What are you sorry for?” She interrogated.Rebecca sniffed. What she wanted to say felt too big for her to say, but she had to swallow her pride to talk. “Sarah, I’m sorry for being rude to you. Forgive me,
Harold entered his house and met Davina, his mother, waiting for him with legs crossed as she majestically sat on the couch, her back relaxed on the backrest.Harold ground his teeth and paced to her front. “What are you doing here?” He threw a question.Davine gradually raised her eyebrows and immediately, as her eye landed on his face, she responded with a harsh tone. “Is that the proper way to greet your mother?”Harold blew heavy air through his mouth and brushed his hand over his head as he held his waist with his left hand. “I changed the passcode. How did you get in? How did you have access to bang into my house?!”Davina chuckled. “Your house or mine?” She asked with a cool voice and cracked up. “Boy, have you forgotten this is Harrison Villa? This mansion belongs to me. Isn’t questioning how I have access to my property a little rude?”Harold scoffed. “And when will you get used to me speaking to you rudely?” He asked. He dug his hand into his pocket and fixed his eyes on her
“Harold, by tagging me as an old witch, you have a purpose, and I can manipulate events to make history repeat itself to get what I want. I have nothing to lose. Sarah is the one who will suffer.”Harold's eyes widened, and his lips quivered, yet he forced out a word. “You're not involving Sarah in this! This doesn’t concern her in any way!” He warned, pointing his finger at her.Davina snickered. “I dragged no one into the mess right from the beginning. If anyone is to be blamed, Harold, it will be you,” she said, relaxing her back on the couch. “It’s your fault. You want to prove stubbornness which will yield you no good. You start it all, Harold. Listen to me and all this will stop.”“What do you want?” Harold asked. He expected an immediate response, but he raised his voice since he didn’t get one. He threw another question in a raised voice. “What the hell do you want, woman?”Davina beamed and raised her shoulders. “The same things I’ve always requested from you- stay away from
Mia entered and all the workers instantly paused what they were doing. They divided themselves into two and formed a line at the left and right, leaving enough space for Mia to walk freely between them.“Good morning!” They greeted her with raised voices, and without responding to them, Mia paced to the table on the left side and picked up the book on it.She scanned the first and third pages, and as she wanted to open it to the third page, her eyes glimpsed the last name on the list, and she paused. She closed the file and raised her chin. “Rathnait…”Rathnait stepped forward to her front and stared downward with her hands hung at her back like a criminal in front of the judge.Mia scanned Rathnait from head to toe and vice versa with a disgusted stare. “You’re a minute. Is there a reason for that?” She asked.“I-” Rathnait raised her head to talk, but Mia gave her no space.Mia raised her hand to cut Rathnait off. She put her hands down and crossed them over her chest. “I’ve no inte
CHAPTER 18“Remember, Sarah, from now on, you’re to avoid me like a plague! We mustn’t cross paths again. We shouldn’t set eyes on each other ever again! I mustn’t see you anywhere near me, anything and everything that has to do with me, failure to listen to my warning, Sara, I’ll make sure you regret it. I’ll cause damage and make sure it’s beyond repair. Now, leave. Go away and, if possible, I want you to disappear and live your life like you didn’t exist.”Davina’s harsh statement and her vicious laughter from years ago rang loudly in Sarah’s head with every step she took toward the entrance. The picture of Davina’s gaze on those days appeared in front of her, and she saw everything like they were years ago.Sarah’s feet became heavy, and she couldn’t take another step forward as tears welled up in her eyes, but she caged them beneath her eyelids and acted strong to refuse to let them find their way out.Her heart yearned to scream out, but she controlled herself, knowing she wasn
“Help me zip it up.” Mia requested as she walked out of a corner of the worker’s dressing room. It was already late before she got the meal done so she couldn’t go home or she would cause a delay, so she agreed to use the worker’s dressing room as Sarah suggested. It was against her wish, but she wanted to satisfy Sarah.“Okay.” Sarah uttered. She walked closer to meet her and helped her with the zip.Mia took a step backward and turned around. “And how do I look?” She inquired. She stopped turning and looked at Sarah’s face as she forced a smile on her face. “My smile. How does it look? I barely smile so it’s kinda hard to force it to impress the Harrisson,”She stared downward and sighed. “I can’t believe I’m already tired of what never starts.” She voiced out.Sarah beamed. She took a step closer and placed her hand on Mia’s shoulder. “You’ve got a delicate shape, so the dress looks perfect on you. Anyone who knows the actual definition of beauty will know you possess it. whatever
“My request. Have you considered it?” Mia asked immediately as she stepped into the office, Sarah following her. She walked to her seat and opened the file on her desk. “It’s been three days. Are you yet to conclude?”“I reached a conclusion, but I doubt you would like it,” Sarah said boldly. She took the last step closer to the desk and declared, “I don’t want to be your friend.”“Why?” Mia inquired.“Because of the saying that says, birds of the same feather fly together,” Sarah let out in simplicity and instantly proceeded. “You’re from a wealthy family, so it’s only normal you move with other heiresses that are of the same caliber as you.”“But you witnessed me reject Rebecca. If I want an heiress like me, there are many on the lines to choose from. Many of them can’t wait to befriend me and they will do whatever I request of them.” Mia let out.“I know, and I feel it will be better you hear from them,” Sarah voiced out. “I don’t want to make the same mistake twice. I once was pun
Ashley’s heels made sounds as she gently hit them on the ground. She walked to the entrance and entered the passcode, but it was incorrect, and without a second thought, she entered another passcode, but it was still rejected. She furrowed her face. “What could he use?” She wondered and had a few seconds of thought. “Oh,” she figured out and with her lips tinted with a smile, she quickly pressed the only date that came into her mind and it got accepted. She scoffed. “I knew it,” she uttered. The door opened, and she walked into the house, whispering, “He can never change. I know he hasn’t learned his lesson, and I doubt he can.”She entered the sitting room and turned her neck to scan the sitting room before she paced to the couch and gently sat. She placed her bag beside her and took her phone out.She dialed a number, and it didn’t ring twice before the person accepted the call. “I’m in your place. Come right away. I’ve got a lot to do and you know I’m time conscious as you are.” She
-A week later-“Why isn’t she here yet?” Sarah raised a question, her worried voice matching her concerned expression.Rathnait entered with her hands crossed over her chest. She loosened her hands from her chest and elevated her shoulders. “Why get yourself worried over?” She said, her lips shaped to the left a little. “What will she do once she gets here? Won’t she yell at you? Stop being moody and enjoy the moment before she gets here, and you will fidget again.”Steven ground his teeth. “Stop talking bullshit. Will you?” He cautioned. “We’ve been working for her for three years and this is the first time she arrived late. It’s 1 PM already. We aren’t even certain she will be present.”Rathnait gave Steven a side look. “Getting pissed off because I spoke badly of her? Isn’t what I said the truth? I know my statement gets on your wrong side because of what you have in mind towards her,” she said. “Be careful what you say back at me?”She took her eyes off him and slightly turned her
