Chapter 5

The path to the secret exit was easy, short, and something they could definitely handle until they almost bumped into Rebecca. Quickly, they hid behind the pillar, which easily covered them. Rebecca looked like she was disappointed at something and was murmuring to herself. As she came closer, what she was saying became clearer.

"I had thought they would treat her with disrespect. How could she be worth two hundred thousand dollars? That's a huge amount for someone as low as her. I couldn't even be worth such, and the alpha king can't be as bad as people always said. The men looked so handsome and good-looking, and I can form a plan to be the one the Steelheart pack takes to their pack rather than the bitch of my sister," Rebecca said as she crossed their path without noticing or scenting their presence because she was so engrossed in what she was saying.

Aurora was totally flabbergasted at what she heard. Why would her sister be jealous of her for getting sold off her life to live as a wife to a man she had never met or seen before?

"You have a weird family," Elena said, looking surprised.

"Yes, I know. She can marry the king for all I care. I just want to escape from here. I only have five hundred bucks here, and I hope that should be enough for me to escape to the human land and find a job," Aurora said, touching her small satchel hanging loosely on her back.

"I have a thousand dollars here. Take it. That should help you last for a while in the human land. I've been saving it for a while now," Elena said, handing her the money.

Aurora smiled at her with her face filled with gratitude.

"Quick, let's leave before we encounter another surprise," Elena said, quickly heading for the window. As they arrived, they saw two guards guarding the entrance to the hall where the windows were located.

"What's the second plan?" Aurora asked again. Elena was the smartest of the two and the most fearless.

"Distract them with this?" Elena said, bringing out a rat toy that made silly rat sounds. "Once I throw it over, the guards will get distracted by the sound, and we will run off as quickly as possible."

Elena threw the toy towards their direction. As she had stated earlier, the guards got distracted and left their post. Quickly, they ran down the hall. Their plan was a success, and Aurora quickly hugged Elena. They disentangled from each other, and she said, "Once I'm in a safe and secured place in the human land, I shall call you." Without thinking twice, she rushed out from the window and gently walked over to the pathway that led outside of the mansion.

She ran as quickly as she could, without looking back. She could feel the wind hitting her body as she ran with so much zeal and determination to escape. Once she's away from her pack, she will start a new life, get a job, enroll in college, and start a good business while concealing her identity. That was her plan.

It didn't take her long to reach outside the pack. She was outside the mansion, and as she stared at it for the final time, she dashed into the forest. That was the only secure way to avoid getting caught by anyone. She couldn't take that chance and hoped she wouldn't encounter any rogues or enemies of their pack.

As she kept running, her breath was getting caught up with her, and her emotions were all over the place. She could feel the thorns tearing through her skin, and she knew that this was the sacrifice she needed to make to live a happy life.

Now she was in the middle of the forest, alone and tired. But she kept running. Her pack was drifting away from her, the farther she ran, the farther she felt the bond and scent of her pack winding off from her. Finally, she reached the border of her pack. Once she crosses it, she will enter the barren lands, in which no one owns. She can walk for ten to fifteen minutes to find the main road where she can take a cab leading to the human land.

After a long walk away from her pack, she decided to rest a little, take a sip of water before starting her journey. She could hear the sounds of cars coming from the east side, and she felt happy. She was close to finally leaving.

As she took her last sip of water, she felt a movement in the forest. It was so fast, and in the next minute, she found herself lying on the ground. She hissed with pain as she felt a hand slap her across the cheek with force, and she yelped with pain.

"What are you doing here all alone?" a voice said, growling, rough, and raspy like the sound of a wild animal, which sent chills down her spine. She looked up to see the human who still had some wolf features on him, staring at her. There were six of them, and she knew who they were. They were rogues. They smelled dangerous with no single scent, and she knew that they were going to kill her without mercy.

"Running away from home? Eloping perhaps to your lover?" one of the rogues said. Aurora felt her mind become blank. She was going to die, and she was a weak werewolf, the weakest daughter of an alpha. If they discovered that she was an alpha's daughter, they would show no mercy.

"Please let me go. Please, I beg of you." She knew her pleas were useless, but she needed to try her best. The rogue walked towards her, and she walked backward, which earned her a growl. She wasn't meant to walk backward; she was meant to remain standing, still, and fragile.

"I do not like playing games. You look so weak and not our type. We can just kill and eat you since you look delicious and soft," the rogue said again. He looked like the leader, and she knew she couldn't challenge him.

"Please let me go. Do not touch me, please. Let me go," she said. She wasn't ready to die, and she hadn't hoped to die like this, in the hands of rogues.

"No, I won't, darling. Perhaps I will take you with me," the rogue said, pouncing on her...

"Leave her right now, or you won't see your limbs again!" a voice said, powerful and strong and familiar. Aurora had heard that voice before, and quickly her eyes widened with more fear.

The rogue dropped her on the ground, and she felt her eyes go blind for a while. Before she could open them, she saw the six rogues lying on the ground, heads detached, hands broken, hearts ripped out, and bodies emptied as if they were slaughtered. All of this happened in a second.

'Who the heck are you?' Aurora thought, her eyes wide open, her body convulsing at what she saw.
