How could one escape a monster, when one has already been claimed? Fedora has done everything to prove that she can rule the pack as the Alpha of her pack, but all her plans are shattered when she is forced to attend the annual mate hunt and the ball. What could go wrong at a mate hunt, right? Well, anything can happen especially when it is held in rogue territory. But what’s worse is when she discovers that her mate is the most ruthless Alpha of the entire continent. “I refuse to be bound by a weakness and seen as only a commodity; I’ve never fallen victim to the superiors of my world than alone to fall for someone as heartless as Lorcan. Love is a delusion that I control.”

“Please wait, Caroline, I know you’re excited about this party but let me at least turn on the computer first.” I sighed, tired of her nagging already about this online sale.
I had no idea how she could do it. Cheering to be a piece of meat for those lustful males at the Ball? But I still did as she required before she bombarded me with her not so beautiful curse language.
Then I saw the link to the dress.
“Fedora, why are you so slow? The sale will start in two minutes and I want that dress!” She yelled on the phone and I had to pull it away to save my ears.
"For goddess' sake! You can also pick another dress!" I retorted angrily. For a ball that despised she-wolves, how could she be so excited? I absolutely hated this.
"No! Either one of us has to book that dress before anyone else, it's a limited-edition b*tch!" She intensively reminded me again of the importance of the dress.
Well, Caroline was still my best friend and I knew her temper well. So I still held my patience while staring at the countdown timer of the link.
With two minutes to go, so I guessed it won't be a big problem to check my mailbox. However, the email pop-up alert made me drop the mouse in my hand.
[Dear Fedora, Congratulations! Your application for our Annual mating hunt and Ball has been approved! May the Goddess bless you to find your soulmate this year! Stay tuned!]
WHAT?!
I was at a loss when I quickly read the email again. How could this happen?!
I meant I remembered well that I had deleted it when I received their invitation before. Even a thousand years more, I would never want to attend that damn hunting ball.
How the hell could they receive my application and contact me?
Something must be wrong. The Ball was held this year by Grey Glory, the most powerful pack, and this couldn't be a technical mistake.
So, it's a problem on my side.
I know my brother and my mom won’t do it. They always try their best to understand and support my choice.
So that means, it could only be Dad who did this.
This is a crime!
How can he forge my signature like this?
“Hey Car, I think I am going to call you back in a few minutes,” I said to the phone when I came back to my senses.
“No! You can’t leave me hanging like this, it’s important Fedora.”
“I am sorry but I really have to go,” I said and hang up.
I rushed downstairs to discuss this with my father.
How can he do this to me?
He knew I didn’t want to go.
Hell! Everyone knows I hate it!
Why?
Because of its biased rules.
Everyone like to consider this a chance of finding their true soulmate, but what they don’t see is how they are being unfair to the females.
First, females are not allowed to reject as long as their mate caught them in the hunting. They are forced to mate after the hunt with or without their consent.
And lastly, the media has touted for years how females need to dress up in full regalia to impress their mates if they hope to find a perfect soulmate; but in reality, what in the end they get is a male who only wants a breeder or maid to fulfill all their needs without offering anything in return.
Others called it tradition, but in my eyes, it’s just pure oppression against females.
According to their rules, women don’t even deserve to choose their own destiny.
It's so damn unfair!
I heard my father’s voice coming from the backyard so I reached there after checking their bedroom but stopped short when I heard he was on a phone call and from my understanding he was discussing something about the hunt as well.
I peeked outside and my ears perked when my name was brought up.
“Of course sir, we are honoured-”
“Oh no, not at all. She was just sick last year but I am proud to announce that both my kids will attend the Ball this year.”
My eyes widened when I caught the confidence in his voice, he was not at all guilty about betraying me. He was just happy to send his daughter to a hunt where she could get killed or worse, r*ped!
“Yes, absolutely. Thank you.” He hang up and turned back.
I walked out and stopped him before he could avoid me. I was fuming from inside and wanted to break something but he is not only my father but my Alpha as well.
“How could you? You knew I didn’t want to go.” I snapped at him.
“I did this because I can and I don’t owe any kind of explanation to you.” He answered without any remorse.
“Really dad? Well, guess what I also don’t need to explain to you why I will not attend the Ball or the hunt this year as well.” I declared in anger.
"So you're going to disobey me?" His voice was deep and cold, and I knew it was a precursor to his anger.
I knew how horrible it could be but I couldn't stand his tyranny anymore. I love my father but he is totally a tyrant. In the name of what's best for me, he always ignored my own feelings. He just wants to make everyone under his control, my mother, my brother, and me! I am so sick of this!
"If you really intend to force me, I don't mind doing that!" I gritted my teeth and glared at him, ready to shift my claws!
"Then do it to me, Fedora." His voice was full of chill. "Speak up and say that you choose to cut your bond with the Blue Moon pack so that I don't have to make you."
He paused as his eyes filled with red fire. "But I will bite your head off because the Blue Moon pack doesn't welcome any rogues!"
"Alpha! What are you doing?!" My mom ran out and stepped between me and my father and then she turned to my brother. "Take your sister and leave, now!"
My eyes turned red. I knew I couldn't defeat my father but maybe I should at least have a try. Sooner or later, he would definitely send me out as a piece of meat to those arrogant males. With anger roaring in my chest, I showed my teeth.
"Please ......Fedora! I will convince your father!" My mother begged me while holding my arms. Mom rarely begged me for something and I could see the worry in her eyes. Clenching my fist, I stepped backward and ran out after my brother.
I swore I didn't give in because of my father's majesty! I did that only for my mom. She had already done enough for me and I don't want to see her heartbroken.
I soon shifted into my wolf leaving the shreds of my clothes behind. I didn’t have the time to change. I just needed nature and peace to calm me.
I increased my pace when I realized that my brother has also shifted and was trying to mind-link me. I blocked him out.
I ran until my paws started hurting and I reached the edge of the forest, if I cross this line from here I will lose my pack and everything.
I find the situation tempting at this moment and I swear I wanted to.
“Fedora wait! What the hell are you doing?” I turned to see my brother in his human form and I frowned.
I shook my head and shifted.
We were werewolves and it was normal for us to roam around naked but my brother offered me his jacket which was big enough for me to hide my important parts.
“Were you trying to leave our pack?” he questioned and I shook my head.
“I am not gonna lie, but for a moment I wanted to. It would have been easier to escape this hell for a moment.” I answered.
“You’re crazy. The life of a rogue may look free but it’s not. They pay a lot more for that freedom you think they have and you don’t.” He said and we stood side by side staring into nothingness.
“But isn’t it worth it? At least then I won’t have to attend this stupid ball.” I answered.
“It might be stupid for you but for others, it is a chance to find their soulmate.”
“Oh I see, it is a chance for women to sign up for their life sentence only because they were born with a va*ina.” I retorted as I sneered.
“It is tradition Dora. You need to accept it.”
“I don’t want to be tied down. And what pisses me off even more is that Father expects me to accept this shitty tradition,” I said and this time my voice held vulnerability that made him sigh.
“I know, Dora. But we can’t change that, especially this year. This year is special because Alpha Lorcan’s pack is organizing the Ball. It is the most powerful pack and Alpha Lorcan? He is not someone we can afford to offend. For once, think about your pack and….and mom.” He pleaded.
“Mom?” I frowned and asked.
“Yeah, she is not doing well, Fedora. The previous fight with the hunters weakened us, it affected Mom as well and Dad is afraid. Don’t you see it?"
He held my shoulders while making me face him, "That’s why Father is desperate this time. He wants us to attend the ball so that we can make more allies."
"Allies?"
"Yes, I know you may sound offended. But if you can find an Alpha mate by chance, it will gain a big support for us." His tone was rare and serious. "Father is doing this for Mom and our pack. This pack soon needs a new Luna and more resources and warriors.”
He paused and took a deep breath. “Look I am not going to stop you from crossing that border, but I want you to think about this properly. Please.”
He nodded at me and walked away, leaving me to think alone.
Where should I go?
FEDORA’S POVMoving on from the pain and heartache had been a difficult journey, but it was one I embarked upon not because of weakness, but because of the belief that Lorcan was right. Our relationship hadn't started on a good note, and there were secrets and misunderstandings that needed to be addressed. It was time to give him the chance to express himself and make amends.Lorcan was undeniably headstrong and stubborn, but I had faith that this time, he would be more flexible. I had already witnessed a significant change in him during my pregnancy. The man who once never bowed to anyone now bent to tie my shoelaces, and he respected my boundaries, touching me only when I gave him permission to do so.It was a sign of his willingness to change, to adapt, and to become the partner and father our family needed. The transformation in him gave me hope for our future, a future built on trust, love, and understanding. The pain of the past was still there, but it was no longer the defining
LORCAN’S POVI didn't know what to say when I held the divorce papers in my hands. But one thing was certain—I couldn't run away from my sins any longer. I had hurt Fedora countless times, and she had forgiven me time and again. Forgiveness was something I didn't deserve, and now I had to face the consequences of my actions.Fedora's question lingered in the air, and I pondered over it. Were we really okay? No, we weren't. Nothing between us was normal, and it all began with my selfish needs. First, it was about my wolf, then my pack, and finally, my pack's future. Fedora had fulfilled those conditions admirably. My wolf was healed, my pack was in a much better state, and now she carried my pack's future within her womb. How could I let her go?I couldn't sit there any longer, contemplating. I stood up and walked back to my room, retrieving the contract that had bound us. Returning to where Fedora was, I knelt before her. Confusion and hurt were evident in her eyes as she gazed at me.
FEDORA’S POVAs I and the others returned to Gray Glory pack, the weight of revelations bore down upon me. The whole truth about the rift between me and Lorcan had finally come to light, and it was a revelation that left me reeling.Melantha, the source of so much pain and confusion, had manipulated the situation from the start. She had fabricated the entire scene that had driven a wedge between me and Lorcan. For her actions, she had been sent to the werewolf base, a place akin to rehab, where she could heal and hopefully come to terms with her delusions. One of her friends revealed that Melantha had lived in a world of fantasy, convincing herself that Lorcan's care was love and that they were destined to be together. Her obsession had driven her to desperate measures up to a point where she rejected her own mate, and she even drugged Lorcan in an attempt to weaken our mate bond. However, due to Lorcan's strength the drug didn’t effected him that much and he ran away instead in an at
FEDORA’S POVAs I and two warriors ventured towards the battered barn, the memories of the mysterious figure who had entered it earlier gnawed at the back of my mind. The barn, now mostly destroyed from the recent battle, stood before me, a symbol of uncertainty. The scent of blood grew stronger as we approached near the barn, and I exchanged worried glances with the warriors by my side. The dread within me intensified as I sensed movements from within but my wolf was calm, she showed no signs of stress and that put me at ease.Quickly, I activated the mind link, summoning our pack members. Their responses were swift, and they arrived just in time to witness the unfolding mystery. The stench of decayed blood filled the air, a chilling reminder of the horrors that had taken place. I couldn't deny the fear that crept into my heart, but I refused to let it weaken my resolve. Pregnancy didn't equate to weakness; I was determined to face whatever awaited inside.Lorcan's warning glance did
FEDORA’S POVThe tension in the air was palpable, thick like an invisible shroud that seemed to constrict around everyone in the entire battle field. Lorcan's eyes, usually warm and inviting, were now cold, searching for something that eluded him. It was evident that he wasn't looking for me; his gaze bore into the distance, and the fire of determination flickered within his irises.Despite the numerous wounds that marred his body, he moved with a grace that belied the pain. With a few determined strides, he reached me, his fingers closing around me wrists, holding me in place. There was an undeniable possessiveness in his grip, an unspoken promise that he wouldn't let me go. My first instinct was to pull away, to create distance, but there was something about his close proximity that soothed the wild turmoil within me and my wolf. So, I stayed, my eyes locked onto his, searching for answers.Lorcan's men trailed behind him, their expressions mixed with curiosity and urgency. They wer
FEDORA’S POVWalking out of that grim place, the reality of the situation weighed heavily on me. The others trailing behind us were mostly underage and hadn't yet developed their wolf. Their vulnerability gnawed at my heart, but Lorcan assured me they would be safe. Still, trust was an elusive concept, and I couldn't help but feel a twinge of doubt. It was true, though. I had to think of our child. My wolf was already bearing the burden of protecting us both, and I couldn't afford to let my emotions jeopardize that. I was acutely aware of her exhaustion. The night's silence enveloped us, thickening the air with tension. The stillness felt ominous, as if it were the calm before an impending storm. My heart raced with each passing second. As we continued, I sensed a presence, something familiar. I stopped Lorcan, urgently whispering for him to hide. We all took cover in the shadows, and then I saw him - Zero. My mind struggled to process the sight; how had he found us?When the path see
LORCAN’S POVDirt caked her face, loneliness clung to her like a second skin, and she sat there, battered and wounded. I approached her, the weight of my past neglect pressing on me like a leaden cloak. She had sensed my presence, but her gaze remained distant, unfocused. I couldn't blame her; I hadn't been there when she needed me most.Step by careful step, I drew nearer, all my senses alert to her every movement. My warriors and Alpha Adrian were ready, positioned to strike the rogues once we had Fedora and the others safely away. But right now, in this tense moment, it was just me and my mate."Fedora?" My voice was a mere whisper, filled with regret and longing. She finally turned her gaze toward me, her eyes empty, but at least they acknowledged my presence.Kneeling in front of her, I gently cupped her cheek. The dirt and grime smeared across her delicate features couldn't hide her beauty. Her hands were bound, and I quickly set to work untying them. The ropes had left angry, r
THIRD PERSON’S POVFedora's predicament grew increasingly dire as the rogues continued to hold her captive, and her fellow shelter members found themselves in an equally perilous situation. Tensions ran high as the rescuers, led by Lorcan and Adrian, prepared to make their move.Lorcan's heart raced with worry for his mate and unborn child, but he knew he needed to remain composed for their sake. The scent of Fedora's blood filled the air, a constant reminder of the urgency of their mission. Adrian, though struggling with his own emotions, reminded Lorcan to control himself, knowing that their erratic behavior could jeopardize the rescue operation. As they followed the scent trail, the duo encountered the unexpected: a well-organized rogue pack. It was a stark departure from the typical chaotic nature of rogues. The rogues patrolling their borders appeared disciplined, and the territory seemed orderly. They realized that these rogues were not the usual feral wolves. The rescue team de
LORCAN’S POVMy temper was on the brink of erupting, a volatile mixture of emotions swirling within me. The scent of Fedora's blood, amplified by the bond we shared and the knowledge of her carrying my child, was a maddening cocktail that sent my wolf into a frenzy. The primal instincts of protection and urgency were warring within me, threatening to overwhelm my control."Control yourself, Lorcan," Adrian's words cut through the tumultuous storm of my thoughts. Even in his own turmoil, he managed to hold a semblance of restraint that I found both admirable and infuriating. While Fedora was his sister, and his concern was palpable, I struggled to maintain my composure in the face of such overwhelming emotions. The trail of Fedora's blood scent was a lifeline leading us through the dark labyrinth of uncertainty. It felt deliberate, a beacon she had left for us to follow—a glimmer of hope in an otherwise dire situation. I had already mobilized my pack, sending out a call to my warriors
