During the entire drive to Aaliyah’s place all I can think about is how lucky I am that my mom wasn’t at home. What if he had her too? What if she got seriously injured? What if he had taken her as hostage? My mind numbing thoughts torments every part of my body, but to know that she's safe eases the terror that cripples me inside.
Even though my home is destroyed, I can rebuy half of the things that were broken, but there are some things that I can’t buy back. Those cherished memories of my mom working on her paintings when I would come back from law school, and my mom’s favorite cassettes that she’s held on for years that we've watched ever since I was a kid.
It’s now all gone, thanks to him.
Slowly driving into the parking lot of Aaliyah’s apartment, Adair parks the car and turns the engine off, and we sit in complete silence, neither of us daring to talk or get out first.
“So, what are you going to
If the outside is beautiful, then the inside is even better. A chandelier hangs from the ceiling in the foyer, it's lights dazzling across the shiny waxed floor. Two stair cases sit on opposite sides, ascending to the top and straight ahead is a door that opens to the backyard where there’s a giant pool. On my left and right sides are big glass doors both of which seem to open to sitting rooms.“I’ll give you a house tour tomorrow morning.” Adair states giving my luggage to the man who opened the door for us.“Sure.” I say still gazing around the house. “Don’t you seem to get lonely in such a big place?” I ask.As much as it seems amazing to live in a mansion, I would never be able to tolerate all this silence.“Sometimes.” He shrugs. “Come let’s get you to your room.”I follow behind him as we walk up the stairs. A bunch of pictures of him and Anna hang on th
Just as promised, the next morning Adair shows me around the house and there are only six places that I can remember from the massive house tour: mine and Adair’s rooms, the kitchen, the living room, the bathroom, and the full pool outside that doesn’t even encompasses half of his backyard. That’s how big it is.We both sit outside with our laptops open and working away in the fall sunshine near the poolside. I’m surprised that Adair hasn’t gone in to work even on a Sunday. He definitely seems like the type to do so.Or maybe because he didn't want to leave me alone.I was going to relax this weekend, but that went down the drain. After what happened last night, I need to keep my mind occupied otherwise I'll be sent into a spiral with my horror filled thoughts about last nights event.I guess I can use this time to prepare for my court case tomorrow.Typing rapidly away on his laptop, Adair’s
When Julian called he also said how there was nothing left behind that could be used to find the masked man. No hair strand, no fingerprint, no thread, nothing.I was upset to hear that even after tearing my entire place apart, there was no evidence that could be used to help us find him. But the best news is, that we have Miller's location which means the faster we get to Miller, the faster he can can lead us to the masked man.Adair left to meet Anna, since she wanted to talk to him and I'm left walking around the mansion alone. We didn’t tell her that I’m staying here and I think that its best we don't. I wouldn’t be too happy either if another woman was living with my fiancé, even if they were on professional terms.I wonder what she has to tell him about that can’t be said on the phone.“Ms. Carter!” The maid calls running behind me. “Your phone was ringing. I thought I should give it to you.”
Another day is spent in the court house and as soon as the judge tells her verdict, I quickly pack up my things and leave.Aaliyah and I go to grab some much needed coffee. I couldn’t sleep all night, because of my long nap, and now I’m feeling the effects, but that wasn’t the only reason. My mind kept drifting back to Adair’s fingers on my lips, my legs in between his thighs, and the confession I made to myself last night. It's wrong in so many ways and I wish that I could just rip all these feelings and emotions out of my heart and flush them down the toilet. The barista hands us our coffee and we take a seat near the window.“Are you okay Sarah? You don’t look so well and in court you weren’t your usual self.” Aaliyah asks taking a sip from her coffee.“Yeah, I’m just tired. I couldn’t fall asleep last night because I took a long nap in the day.” I say holding the hot coffee
Adair’s Point of View“What the hell do you mean there is no match?!” I roar through the phone.“Mr. Adair, no o-one that we visited had the t-tattoo as s-shown i-in the p-icture and their profile wasn’t s-similar to the d-description.” The detective stutters.“What about the tattoo artists? I presume you idiots found nothing as well?” I say with rage, pacing back and forth in my office.“N-nothing s-sir. No-one remembers since it wasn’t c-custom design and-”“-Your fired.” I state cutting off his bullshit and ending the call.My body shakes in fury and irritation as I tightly grip the edge of the table to stop myself from connecting my fist onto it and smashing it into pieces. All they had to do was find the damn guy and they couldn’t do that.“SHIT!” I yell throwing my phone across the room in frustration.
Aaliyah gave me a ride to Adair’s house since she was dying to see how it looked in person. I did take quick pictures in the morning before going to work, but she wanted to see the ‘work of art’ herself.“This is amazing!” Aaliyah breathes taking in the exterior of the home.“Wait till you see the inside.” I laugh.Walking into the house, I’m bombarded with two maids and a chef. One of them grabs my purse while the other helps me take my coat off. The chef asks me what I would like for dinner and I honestly didn’t know I had that much authority to decide the menu.“Um, just surprise me.” I say unable to think of something that Adair will like too. The chef gives a wide smile and walks back to the kitchen. I think he’s excited to cook his own creation.“Girl, your being treated like a queen! I mean you are one, but damnnnn!” She says waving her hand in front of her f
I was able to move around my client meetings to allow for our fake court hearing to happen this Wednesday instead of next week. Mr. Adair told Mr. Rollins how we were going to leave for Italy and Mr. Rollins worked it all out with my other clients making it much easier on my part.Because I’m going to be leaving in a couple days, Mr. Rollins brought in another accomplished lawyer, Mrs. Kimathi, to fill in for me until I get back. I spend the rest of my Tuesday briefing her about all the upcoming hearings, meetings, paperwork, and remind her that she has access to Aaliyah if she needs anything.Mrs. Kimathi has been in the law field for over twenty-five years and listening to her about her cases makes me less worried about how she’ll handle mine.“Any questions?” I ask Mrs. Kimathi throwing my purse over my shoulder.“Nope. I got it all darling.” She smiles. “If I ever need anything I’ll ask Aaliyah, an
Adair wasn’t kidding when he said there’s going to be a lot of paparazzi there. There’s more paparazzi than actual news journalists. Words such as cheater, new woman, money are being yelled out and someone even tried to drag me into it by calling me "Adair’s new love interest" and "homewrecker".I’m walking as quickly as I can wanting to escape into the courtroom, but lights are being flashed from every direction in my face making it harder for me to even see where I’m going. The press follows close behind, wanting a statement from me on the case, but I continue my pace ignoring their demands.Tons of teenage girls and women stand on the side lines, dressed as if they were going to a club, chanted "Alexander Adair marry me" and "Alex, I love you" which I find to be totally ridiculous. This isn’t a concert, it’s a court case. They desperately want to get close to him, but thanks to Julian and his team their forced t
