Before leaving, Adair briefed me about my bodyguards. I will always have two in front of my door, three downstairs in the lobby, one to drive me around everywhere, and a couple at work.
When ever my mom would need to go out, Andrew or Cole will accompany her and someone will replace them in front of my door. He gave me the phone numbers of all the body guards and I made sure to save them according to their position aside from Andrew and Cole.
I’ll remember their names.
When I asked him what happened to the old guards, he said there was a lot of yelling, threatening, and firing involved but more of the threatening part.
My mom and I spend the rest of the evening watching a movie. As the movie plays, I'm having trouble concentrating, because I’m itching to call my aunt and ask her about this whole vacation thing. I honestly don’t know how long this whole case will run, but I can at least ask her to have my mom over for at least two months.
I spend the next two days helping my mom pack for her flight which leaves for tomorrow. When the airline found out that Elizabeth Carter was my mom, which I definitely think my aunt mentioned it, they prioritized her and gave her a ticket for the earliest flight possible. It definitely has to do with my name being attached to the Adair case. This time I’m glad I could get a perk.I called Adair right after my phone call with Aunt Meg and told him the whole thing. He said that I can chose either Cole or Andrew to accompany my mom to Canada, and if I want more than to choose anyone else I would like. I think one bodyguard would be enough especially since Aunt Meg is a force to be reckoned with herself.Upon deciding, my mom said she wanted to go with Cole, because she liked his eyes. I died laughing at that, because that’s an odd way to decide who to come with you.“I don’t understand why you can’t come Sarah.&rdquo
Adair’s Point of ViewThe morning is spent at sitting in a boring business meeting with people pitching ideas about our next project based on technology, health care, and interaction and quite frankly everything they had to say sucked like hell.Relieved, I let out a deep breath and close my eyes as the last presentation finally comes to an end.“We will continue to go through the proposals and short list some more people. Ms. Lodhi will be in contact with those who move forward. You may leave now.” I say in a bored tone telling everyone to get the hell out now. There will be no short list because no one made it to the short list.As soon as everyone leaves, Ms. Lodhi and I are left alone to discuss these bland and juvenile proposals.“What do you think Mr. Adair?” Ms. Lodhi asks stapling the one page summaries of proposals together.“What I think is that they w
Adair called me and filled me in with the whole Miller situation and to say the least, I was very dissapointed. I really did believe that once Miller came back from his vacation that he could tell us something about the masked man. Now, just like Adair, I'm thinking he had a hand in helping the masked man deliever those threats to me, otherwise why else would he end his phone contract. With Adair working on finding Miller's whereabouts, the faster we find Miller the sooner we’ll find out whose sending me all these threats and in solving the murder case of Anna's father.I decide to stay over at Aaliyah’s house for the weekend because I was starting to get lonely and the house just seems weird without my mom. I could have invited her to my place, but it’s much safer if I went over to her place.Andrew came along with me, because once Adair found out that I was staying over at Aaliyah's for the weekend he made sure to let Andrew know
I end up waking up early because I couldn’t go back to sleep after last night. Instead of tossing and turning in my bed, I decide to just get the day started and make myself something to eat.Taking my plate of breakfast, I sit in the living room and watch some morning news.Adair’s case is still trending and it’s almost been two weeks. Usually, within one or two days the news station would change its headline to the next big thing that has happened in the city, but for the first this hasn't been the case. Adair really does have that powerful effect on the media and on the rest of the world.Speaking of Adair, a sound of a ding grabs my attention and I see that a message has popped up on the screen of my phone. It's from him. Opening the text, I wonder why he's awake at 6:30am in the morning on a Saturday.Adair: Ms. Carter it’s about Greg’s transactions and the other transactions. Please meet me at my office anytime toda
I make my up to Aaliyah’s dark green apartment door, and notice that Andrew isn’t where I last saw him. I do have the key to her house, but unlike last night, there's no way that I'm walking in on them again.I knock loudly on the door just to scare them and to make sure to let them know that somone is at the door. It works because a deep breathing Aaliyah opens the door with her hand clutching her chest.“Sarah, geez I thought this was a raid or something!” She says breathlessly.I walk inside with a smug smile and catch Andrew sitting at the island.“I just wanted to make sure you knew that it was me.” I laugh evilly. “Hey Andrew!”“Hi Ms. Carter. How were your errands?” He asks taking a sip from his coffee. His coffee cup reminds of when Adair took a sip of his own coffee, and my body shivers again as I remember the sound that escaped his lips.I'm a mess.
We spend the rest of our day playing golf. After counting our scores, Aaliyah came in first place, along with Andrew second, and of course, I got the last spot. Despite coming last, I do have to admit that I had alot of fun today, minus the part where I saw Anna. After a hard and long day of physical activ ity, we all decided to go eat dinner at Aaliyah and I's favorite resturant.“Wow this place is amazing.” Andrew gasps as he takes in the interior.Flavor, is a Middle Eastern restaurant located in downtown New York and I’ve been going here ever since my law school days and Aaliyah since her paralegal school days. It's warm cozy interior shines with decorative gold lamps hanging from the ceiling in various places across the restaurant. The walls are painted a shade of rich burgundy and beautiful Middle Eastern art hangs on the walls along with plates painted with various designs. Each table has a colorful candle
“I’ll be down quickly.” I state, getting out of the car.“Ms. Carter, I’m not letting you go up there alone especially at this time.” Adair says getting out of the car as well.I know there’s no point in arguing with him because he’s going to come anyways. We make our way up to my penthouse in silence and as soon as we get out of the elevator we spot the bodyguard who replaced Cole laying unconscious on the floor and my penthouse door wide open.Adair and I both freeze in our spots. My eyes lock on the lifeless figure on the floor, my heart leaping into my throat and my once warm hands, thanks to the heat in Adair's car, now cold and clammy. Please don't be dead.Adair's head snaps back and forth, his eyes scrutinizing every inch of the silent hallway. Drawing out a black gun from the inside of his blazer, he brings it close to his chest ready to strike if needed.&nbs
During the entire drive to Aaliyah’s place all I can think about is how lucky I am that my mom wasn’t at home. What if he had her too? What if she got seriously injured? What if he had taken her as hostage? My mind numbing thoughts torments every part of my body, but to know that she's safe eases the terror that cripples me inside.Even though my home is destroyed, I can rebuy half of the things that were broken, but there are some things that I can’t buy back. Those cherished memories of my mom working on her paintings when I would come back from law school, and my mom’s favorite cassettes that she’s held on for years that we've watched ever since I was a kid. It’s now all gone, thanks to him.Slowly driving into the parking lot of Aaliyah’s apartment, Adair parks the car and turns the engine off, and we sit in complete silence, neither of us daring to talk or get out first.“So, what are you going to
