Chapter 5

Lily’s POV

I stood dumbfounded as Alpha Darius released my face from his grip. I looked at Selene and saw her eyes burning in anger. That was when it dawned on me that what I was actually avoiding had happened. I knew she was going to punish me by making life in the palace more miserable for me than it was before. 

I stood confused for a while as Selene looked at us in silence as my heart pondered on whether I should run out the room or remain inside. She let go of the door knob as she banged the door angrily behind her, the room vibrated and the windows shooked from the impact of the door on the frame tightly fixed on the wall. 

She charged towards us as though she was going to pounce on me, and my wolf growled silently as though it sensed that all wasn’t well. I knew Alpha Darius would never allow her to touch me, not when he was right there with me.

“I have warned you to always knock on the door and wait for my response before entering my room Selene. How dare you barge into my room without my permission?” He attacked her before she could open her mouth to say anything. 

“I am sorry my lord for barging into your room without your permission, I thought there was no need to knock since I’m the future Luna of this pack.” She answered carelessly as she eyed me from head to you as though she wanted to let me know that she will forever make me a slave in the palace. 

“And may I know what this filthy thing is doing in your room?” She asked, as she looked at me as though she felt disgusted by my sight. 

Alpha Darius walked back to his bed and sat without uttering a word. I remained silent as well because I knew she was already pissed off. She was going to punish me anyway. My wolf groaned within me but I tried to calm it down.

“Seriously? Are you two going to act as if I didn’t walk into you guys doing what goddess knows?” She queried as she raised her voice, pain evident in her tone. She walked towards the bed facing Alpha Darius, his gaze was fixated on the floor. 

“Calm down Selene, it is just a misunderstanding. It's not what you think I promise.” He asserted as he looked up at her. 

I felt a wave of excitement wash over me as I saw the pain and anger etched on Selene’s face. ‘It’s exactly what you think, Selene.’ I thought to myself as I smiled inwardly.

“You have not answered my question, Darius. What is this wench doing alone with you in your chambers?” She insisted, as she stood hands akimbo staring at him. 

It was as though the last statement got to Alpha Darius and he stood up from the bed angrily facing Selene. 

“Shut up Selene!” He roared as his voice echoed through the palace walls. 

Selene was taken aback by the way he shouted at her, it was though she never expected such a reaction from him. I was surprised as well, but I tried to keep a straight face. 

“I only demanded to know what a lowlife maid was doing in the room you and you are yelling at me?!” Selene yelled back, pain evident in her tone. 

“You are crossing the line, lady. Remember I warned you not to get in my way. I’m the Alpha and you dare not disrespect me in any way.” He countered, his tone laced with anger. 

“How dare you call her names?!” He continued as he began to pace around the room in annoyance. “ I have warned you to never treat any maid in a disrespectful manner in this palace, but you never listen to me.” He said his voice louder so that it could be heard outside the room. 

I had always thought the Alpha was crazily in love with Selene, I never imagined that he could raise his voice at her the way he just did in my presence. I looked at her disappointment-etched face as tears began to well up in her eyes. 

“I can see that Lily has poisoned your heart against me” she managed to say as she broke down in tears. “Have you forgotten so soon about what she did which made your late father punish her?”

I shot a painful look at her and for a moment I felt glad about the way Alpha Darius had spoken to her. 

“Look Selena, you need to understand that I will never hurt you on purpose. This is just a misunderstanding, it is not what you think. I can only be happy with you when you obey my rules in this palace, I can’t watch you treat my maids anyhow.” He asserted, his tone laced with empathy. 

“I was just looking out for you my lord, you know how dangerous she could be.” She said as she turned her gaze towards me. 

‘If only you know how wicked and deceitful Selena is’ I thought to myself as I noticed that she had finally won his heart with her lies. I made to walk out of the room after the tension in the room seemed to have reduced but she stopped me as I held the door knob. 

“Come back here Lily. Where do you think you are going?” She queried, as she walked closer to me. 

I rested my back on the door as I released my grip from the door knob and I watched and waited for what she had to say to me. I was sure that she wouldn’t dare to touch me in the Alpha’s presence. 

“So, you think you could deceive my Alpha just to win his heart?” She asked a low laugh escaping her throat. 

“I’m sorry, my lady. I didn’t mean to cause any problem between the two of you.” I replied as I lowered my head. I knew I wasn’t sorry for anything that happens deep down. I just had to say it anyway. 

“I was expecting you to have learned your lesson, but it seems you’d never stop being a deceitful person.” She began with a wicked smile spread across her face. 

I knew she was trying to remind me of how the former Alpha stripped me of my former position and ordered that I should be thrown inside the pack’s prison after she falsely accused me of trying to seduce Darius with a fake tattoo.

Memories of everything began to flash back as I looked at her in pain and anger. It was obvious she never felt an ounce of guilt for treating me wrongly. 

“She once tried to seduce you with a fake tattoo my lord, you have to be careful around her. She is a desperate twert who could devise any method to get your attention. Don't be fooled by her actions.” She remarked as she turned facing Alpha Darius. 

Alpha Darius stared at us in silence with confusion etched on his face. I couldn't bear the pain of the lies Selene blurted again, I have heard enough of her lies. I opened the door angrily and slammed it behind me. I walked as fast as my feets could carry me and disappeared into the hallway. 

Tears welled up in my eyes as the words Selene said kept on ringing in my ears.
