Anong ginagawa niya rito?

That question was running in my head while I approached the group.

I’ve never expected that I will see him again. Not today. Not at this party.

"Ah, there you are, hija," Mr. Aleno said, his eyes twinkling with warmth when I finally reached them.

He extended his hand, and we exchanged a firm handshake.

"Happy birthday, Mr. Aleno," I greeted.

He smiled warmly.

"Thank you," he replied. "I was worried you wouldn't make it because you're probably busy. Buti ay nakarating ka. Are you enjoying the party, hija?"

"Of course, I don't want to miss your birthday, Mr. Aleno. And yes, I am enjoying the party."

Mr. Aleno chuckled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "That's good to hear.”

But his face turned into worry. “If only your mother and father were here, I'm sure they would have enjoyed it too. They like parties like this. Is your father still sick?"

I nodded.

"My Dad was recovering from the stroke. He's in Escala with Mom, kaya hindi sila nakapunt
