Chapter 39

Augustus's POV

Alexander walked behind me, I tried my best to keep my anger at bay and just take it as an honest mistake, but something was wrong somewhere, and I could not seem to place my hands on it.

“Alexander” I called, willing myself to let go of what had happened.

“Yes, your majesty” he said, walking faster so he could walk side by side with me.

“What do you really think about Olivia?” I asked.

“I think she is excellent your majesty. We will be lucky to have her as our queen” he answered, keeping his head down.

“You have been my trusted ally for years now. If for anything, the mistake should not have come from you, it is why I have asked the question that I did” I said to him.

“I am deeply sorry, your highness. It was an oversight and I sent the wrong pack an invitation. It will never happen again your majesty” he apologized.

“Send an invitation to her parents, make sure they leave everything they are doing to attend. I have a plan” I said to him and h

Chapter 40 Olivia's POV I knocked on the door of Augustus's study, I had something to discuss with him about Lucia. The guard told me that he had a guest and even though I wanted to turn back and leave, the guard mentioned that he was with a very beautiful woman. “I think you should go in, just to say hello. Start getting to meet some important people in his life” Elana said behind me, but I knew she didn't want me to be too hard on myself for being jealous. “Thank you” I said and smiled. “Why don't I wait for you in the garden, come to me when you are done” she said and tugged at my cheeks gently before leaving? I stood outside the door for several seconds willing myself to turn and leave without caring about the identity of the woman inside. “Come in” I heard his voice and knew that it was too late. I eased the door opened and entered, shocked to see Annalise seated there, sipping a glass of juice. She didn't look too happy, and it even became worse when she turned an

Chapter 41 Olivia's POV It was finally my wedding day, I stood in front of the mirror, the long flowing red dress shining like the most exquisite thing I had ever seen. Things had calmed down since the disappearance of Lucia and the only thing that bothered my mind today was the fact that my parents were not around. “Oh my my!” I heard Elana's voice from behind me and turned to find her staring at me, her mouth opened. “What?” I said and did a twirl for her so she could see how beautiful my dress was. “You look so angelic. The king will not be able to take his eyes off you for a moment. I guess I got lucky when it came to getting soul sisters” she said and smiled so warmly at me, I didn't feel alone anymore. “Thank You Elana. I was thinking that it was a bit much” I said to her, even though it was the most stunning and expensive dress that I had ever worn. Picking out a dress had been so bad that the fashion designer told me to leave with Annalise because she wouldn't let

Chapter 42 Olivia's POV I stood there in shock not knowing whether to smile, scream or just remain the way I was. Seeing them after so long felt nothing like I had imagined it would be. I didn't know what I had been expecting, but it wasn't for my emotions to take control of me. I buried my face in Augustus's chest as he held it there while I sobbed on his clean shirt. He didn't mind, he simply patted my back while covering me from the eyes of the crowd. “Pull yourself together, if I had known that this was how you were going to act, I would not have allowed it to happen now in the first place. I just felt like you would want your parents to see what you turned out to be” Augustus said, and I nodded my head, knowing that there were so many people here that this would be their first impression of me. “It's fine. I'm okay now” I said and dabbed my eyes with the handkerchief that Augustus has fed to me. I cleaned my eyes gently, dabbing at the spots, so I don't totally ruin my mak

Chapter 43 Augustus's POV I watched her, my eyes following her around like a hawk. She blended so well with my people, but I couldn't get rid of the feeling that something was going to go wrong. When she interacted with her family, I noticed that she was the odd one out. I was overwhelmed with the whole thing and having her so close to me made my wolf very restless. Now that we were bound by marriage, it was not easy to keep him at bay. “Rex, calm down!” I cautioned my growling wolf, but he wouldn't stop. “Take it now! I want her every damn time” Rex said to me, clawing at my mind. “We are out, this is still the wedding!” I chided him, but he grudgingly calmed down. After the wedding, we managed to find our way to our chambers, each step with great difficulty because she was in front of me and all I could think about was doing so much to her. By the time we slept, she was exhausted, her naked body wrapped in my arms as I buried my head in her hair and slept off. My sl

Chapter 44 Olivia's POV I rushed through my bath, excited to see what we were going to be doing. I didn't want anything else but to be away from all this. I thought about Augustus's wisdom to have my parents here, I could see the respect on the faces of the people when they saw that I was also the daughter of an Alpha. “Hello Olivia” I heard a female voice in my head and like an image displayed in front of me, I felt my wolf purr. “Who are you? Lucia? Because this cannot be Augustus” I demanded. “Ariel, I am your wolf” my wolf said and relaxed in my mind. I felt a sense of restlessness overwhelm me. My wolf was Ariel? She is Ariel? “Don't bug your mind so much, I am not going to be able to rest if you keep thinking about everything at the same time” she said, her voice exactly like how I had imagined it. “Are you the Ariel that he fell in love with?” I asked, seeing that no one was really telling me anything about what had happened between Augustus and his first mate. Chapter 45 Augustus's POV My wolf suddenly became restless. Immediately after I finished my conversation with Olivia's fake dad, it was like a sense of unease settled in my stomach, and I struggled to concentrate on the documents in front of me. Finally giving up, I got up and made my way to the chambers, it was almost time for us to leave anyway, and I couldn't wait to get the ritual with the witches done and over with. I met Alexander at the door of my chamber and he looked worried. Tina was standing with him, her hands to her back and her face to the ground. I immediately knew that something was wrong and I got tensed. “What has happened?” I asked. “We can't find the queen anywhere. Even her friend, Elana had not seen her today. We have checked everywhere for her” Alexander said, and I turned my attention to Tina, hoping she would have something to tell me. “Where is she? Where did she tell you that she was going?” I yelled, the apprehension building in my chest. It wi

  • For Every Lifetime   His Woes

Chapter 46 Augustus's POV I raced down the pathway, I knew exactly what she had meant by her last statement. She was going to bury Olivia and I couldn't just stand and watch her die. For some reason, the thought of losing her, as opposed to losing my bond with Ariel, losing Olivia hurt worse. Alexander ran behind me, he had not even known why I was running that much still he followed me without questioning. I found the spot, she had drowned one of my mates here before and no matter how many times we had tried to fill it up, she had always found a way to make it work for whatever she wanted. "Olivia" I yelled and suddenly the air bubbled in the ground. I immediately pushed my hand through the sand and grabbed onto something, I didn't know if it was Olivia or not, but i pulled with all my strength. I reached in again and searched around with my hand, finally touching what felt like hair, I dug my hands in deeper and grabbed what felt like an arm and pulled. With great difficult

I hated being here, being confronted by the wrongs I did several years ago when I had Olivia to go in to meet. “Betray you? We had a deal. You would let me get them to fall in love with me, they can't do that if you keep leading them to their deaths. It's why I mind linked with her, but you managed to find a sore spot and got in” I said, controlling my anger, knowing that she was no longer living so I couldn't hurt her even if I tried. “You want to be happy?” She asked me, and I could hear the mockery in her voice. “I understand. I'll treat her accordingly, but you cannot try to lead her to her death. I will not have you kill her” I argued, I wanted to say so much more but Olivia's life was in the line. “This time around, I want you to treat her worse than you treated me, after all you said y

Chapter 76Olivia's POV I didn't know how much time had passed or how much longer I had, but this was hands down the toughest decision I had ever had to make. There was no one here and for a minute, I wondered if Elana wasn't supposed to be here as my ace guardian. Thinking about it again, this was a test to see my abilities alone without anyone's help. I was scared but then, I had not been with my family since I was born. It was hard to know what being with them would be like, I was curious. Augustus on the other hand, the thought of staying with him for the rest of my life was pleasing. I could feel my wolf leaping in joy. She wanted Augustus, we were going to pick Augustus but the thought of picking a man over my parents didn't sit right with me, so I decided that nothing was too big for me to sacrifice for them. Even if what I was sacrificing was my life and my mate. My hands were just about to pick my parents in a force field when I suddenly heard Elana's voice screaming my n

He was the reason I had crooked fingers, seeing his crooked ones too. “What do you think daughter?” He asked me and I nodded my head. I never expected to meet my real family like this, I knew they were dead, but somehow they are alive in a different world. “I thought you and mom died. How come you both are still here?” I asked him and he laughed. “Because this is not the real world. Every ace that has ever lived is here. This is the home of the Aces after death. It's why no one can find it. Out there in the real world, you have to be dead to it before you can have access to this place…"It was as if him saying out there in the real world had juggled my memory and I remembered Augustus. I thought sadly about how he would never be able to come and see my home. “I have to go back” I said and heard Elana gasp behind me, “what is

  • For Every Lifetime   A Kingdom of Layers

Chapter 74Augustus's POV It's been three days. Three days since Olivia and Elana had lost touch with this reality. I knew they were at the Ace Kingdom, the only kingdom that was untouched by time or the realities that we lived here. I am sure that Olivia and Elana do not know how long they have been there for. The kingdom was agog with activities, one that included them seeing their brave queen who brought them victory, but I couldn't tell them that their queen was an ace wolf, and she has gone home for now. I wondered what Olivia would choose when it was time for her to decide, a part of me dreaded that she might choose never to return her and have her body transported to the ace world. That would mean that I would never see her again, something that scared me more than life itself. “Your Majesty, the councilmen have been waiting for over four hours now. They think your delay is to disrespect them.” Alexander said and I hissed. I wasn't in the mood for those clowns, especially n

I was confused, Elana looked equally confused. “Yes, very soon my darling, you will understand what is going on” she said and I sighed. “Here we go again” I murmured under my breath as I didn't like that she did not explain things to me immediately but rather, wanted me to wait and understand. “If you are the princess Olivia, it can only mean that your parents were actually ace royals” Elana whispered as we waited for the slow but grand arrival of someone I imagined was the royals that I was related to. Suddenly, all the wolves stood up, clapping and chanting like they were performing some sort of welcome ritual. I didn't know what to do or if I should join them. Elana bowed her head and since she was the only person I knew here, I followed her to do the same. “Rise my darlings” I heard a woman's voice above my head. When I raised my head to look at her, I was shocked to see the most pre

Chapter 72Olivia's POV My eyes widened in shock, I had heard about Ace Guardians only in the books I have stolen from my father's library to read about wolves. No one told me anything and I had been struggling to see if there was a way to strengthen the weak one that I had. “Yes, she is your ace guardian” Augustus said when he saw the shock in my eyes. “You knew?” I asked him and could see that Elana was shocked that he knew too. “Olivia, do you know how many lifetimes I have lived with the full memory in my head? Trust me, I can smell some things from a thousand years away” he said, with a smile on his face and turned his attention to Elana, “Elana, I want you to know that I, Olivia Augustus Mate, the Great Lycan king and Uniter of the wolves and all life forms accept you as her Ace Guardian wolf” Augustus said just as Elana began to glow. I started to glow too and jumped up in shock. I was confused. What in the bloody hell was happening to me? A lot of questions were rummaging

They told me she was alive. I need to go back. I didn't mean to kill anyone, but I have a duty to protect my people” I said to her. “And you are sure you didn't kill her out of anger or anything else. Just what you have told me?” Elana asked again, she wasn't answering my questions, yet she kept asking me hers. I was confused. How did she know so much about me? “No, I didn't. Look, we can talk tomorrow morning, for now, there are certain things that I do not understand, and I am not in the right frame of mind to wrap my head around, do you mind if I get a few hours of sleep, and we regroup later in the day to talk about this?” I asked her, Elana looked at me for a while and threw her hands around my blood stained neck for some time. The palace came into view and there was a sea of people waiting for us, including Alexander, who had a terrible look on his face before our eyes met. “Are you ready?” Augustus asked me, distracting me from my face off with his two faced beta.“Never been more ready” I replied and he squeezed my hands. We both smelt alike. We carried the scent of battle, a mixture of smoke and dried, caked up blood. He opened the door and the screams of victory welcomed us home. We made our way to the palace, the men, and women looking at me with a new-found respect. They had obviously heard the rumors and thought that I had betrayed them, but they were the closest thing to a real family that I have ever had. “Welcome home your ma

We made sure of it” my mother said, her eyes filled with confusion. “What do you mean by you made sure I didn't have a wolf?” I demanded, she looked at the ground and slowly backed away, her hands placed in front of her like a shield as I marched towards her. “Wait, I'll tell you everything. Lying was not a big forte of mine, but a queen had to make so many sacrifices, both for herself, her mate and the Kingdom itself. “I have a little surprise for you” she said and paused, “maybe not a surprise because I am sure you must have heard about it, but I just want to give you the honor of meeting your parents one last time” she said with eerie laughter reverberating around the room, “guards!
