Amanda Pov.
My heart pounded in my chest as I stood outside my family house, the house that held my best childhood memories, but now it was contained with people who wanted my downfall.
After seeing the post, my anger couldn't be contained. I tried my best to remain calm, after all Marcus wasn't worth it. But early this morning I received an email from Capewoods Techs Ltd, a company I put my all into.
But sadly, it had been given to Mirabelle and Marcus. It all felt like a dream to me. One day I was about to celebrate my wedding anniversary with my husband and the next few hours I am finding out he has been screwing my sister this whole time? And then a few months after, boom they're getting married?
And now the only thing that tied to my mom and my sanity was about to be ripped out from me?
The resentment burned deep and I could only address the bull by the horn, which was why I pushed the glass door open.
As I entered, I was greeted by the sight of my father, my step mother Katlyn , and god-damned Mirabelle. They were all smiles, in the mood of celebration. Celebrating my downfall.
Katlyn was the first to notice me, her fake smile plastered on her face.
"Oh, Amanda, what a pleasant surprise," she called out, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "Won't you join us for dinner?"
I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. "I am not here for you Katlyn ," I replied curtly. I turned to my father, fixing him with a piercing gaze. "So you knew father ? Not only did you let Mira take everything I had, now you gave her the company too?!"
“You weren't much of a help anyways.” Mirabelle interrupted, sticking a piece of wing in her mouth.
“Shut up your mouth, shameless w**re! I worked hard to raise the company up, going to the office everyday. Denying myself of pleasure while you w**ring around is the only thing you are good at.”
“Don't talk to my daughter like that.” Lira snapped.
“When did you become this unruly Amanda?” My father said with displeasure.
“I think the right question should be when did I stop becoming a fool to realize I was a pawn in your games?” I fired back.
“Don't talk to me like that.” He said, looking at me. “Marcus came to me, telling me how marriage was not blooming. Our family can't take the shame of having a divorce, so that's where Mirabelle comes in.”
“What about the company?” I asked pleadingly, hoping my sweat would not be given to a bunch of useless idiots.
“Can you just stop being missy?!” My father barked, and I stood frozen. He had never raised his voice at me prior to this. “Mirabelle is going to get married, and Marcus wants to merge the companies together.” He paused again. “ If you want to fight against the law, fine! But don't come here making trouble.”
Hurt flashed on my face as I stared at my father strangely, tears streaming down my face.
“You knew about it all along, you knew and you let me put my every sweat to build an empire for you all to feast on?_ I turned to Mirabelle angrily. “And you shamelessly took my husband away from me, how pathetic of you!”
Mirabelle sneered from her seat, "I now see clearly my Marcus loves me. Why do you think you can get all the good stuff.."
I stepped closer. “I deserve the best because I put in my best effort to get things done, not like you who feed on others' sweat!”
I was fuming, it took all the courage within me to keep my anger in check. I couldn't believe that the people I once considered family had become an enemy zone for me.
“This can't be true…” I whispered brokenly. “It can't.”
Katlyn smirked, stepping forward.. "It is true. And if you were planning to get Marcus away from Mirabelle, well, it's too late. Mirabel is already pregnant with his child,"
My heart skipped a beat, and tears welled in my eyes. The rejection and betrayal eating deep into my skin.
“And you know what else?” Mirabelle asked, earning a sneer from me. “He told me he's been putting some pills in your meals, which explains why you have not given birth to a child for him.
What? It can't be true. Marcus wouldn't be that wicked. He kept smiling and assuring me he wasn't bothered that we haven't had kids when he was the sole reason why.
“Amanda, I am tired of your bullshit.” My father's voice broke through the room. “I have reached my breaking point in my care for you. You are of age and can fare on your own. I only took care of you because of my love for your mother, but now I love another and you have to leave.”
Mirabelle and her mother smirked. They had finally gotten what they wanted, they've taken all I had, turned my own father against me leaving my void of anything to hold on to.
I pulled out my credit card from my bag, dumping it on the table. Their faces held shock but I didn't care, all I wanted to do was to get the hell out of here.
“What is the meaning of this? “ My father asked. “How would you survive ? You need us more than we need you, we-”
“Save it! I'm done with your inability to make the right choice.” I pointed to Mirabelle and her mother. “They are your new family now right? Take care of them, I'd be out of your lives forever.”
“Good luck starting anew.” Katlyn called as I stormed out of the building.
I fixed my eyes with big sunglasses that hid my puffy eyes. I just lost a big part of my life. Why was fate so cruel ? Why did I end up with such inhuman people?
My anger raged but my quest for payback was equally strong. I don't know how I would go about it but I am jumping right at the next opportunity.
My phone rang, I looked at the screen. Lucy.
“Hey babe, how did it go?” She rushed out as soon as I picked.
“Well,” I shrugged. “I'm officially not a Capewood anymore. I've been practically kicked out of my family. I'm so tired Lucy, would you mind picking me up?”
“Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry. I'd be there right away, send me your location.”
I sent her the location as soon as the call e
nded. At least, I still had one person who had my back.
But for how long ?
