56. Do I know you?

I walked down the stairs with Kelly, her excitement bubbling over as she adjusted to our new life. She seemed to be enjoying everything more than I could have imagined, especially the thought of us becoming a proper family.

“Mommy, daddy said I’m going to be at the wedding?” Kelly asked, hopping around as we made our way downstairs. Her energy was contagious, and seeing her so happy lifted my spirits.

“Oh, really?” I said, playfully narrowing my eyes. “Looks like someone’s been talking a lot with daddy behind my back.” I scooped her up, cradling her in my arms as she giggled, filling the house with her laughter. Her joy was contagious, and I couldn’t help but laugh along with her. After a moment, I set her back down, and we continued to the dining area hand-in-hand.

“Sorry, ma'am, that breakfast is this late,” Mirabel said apologetically as we took our seats.
