Lauren's POV
“I'm so happy the surgery was a success, Mom. Even though I'd have preferred to be right here by your side.” I said, snuggling into her. “I'm just glad it's over with. You didn't deserve to see me in so much pain and I'm grateful for the gift of you.” She smiled up at me, grabbing both of my hands in hers. “That's what family does, Mom. And I'll do it over again if I had to.” I said, raising her hands to my lips. “Mrs Aldoracco, it's time for her medication and rest. I think it'd be best for you to come by tomorrow. I assure you, she's under the best of care here.” the nurse said, walking into the room with a dish containing her medication. “Come by tomorrow, Lauren. I'll be fine until then.” Mom beamed weakly. She really needed her rest. I kissed her forehead and squeezed her hands in mine. “I'll be back tomorrow, Mom.” “I love you so much.” She said, squeezing back. I stepped out into the reception in high spirit, taking no notice of Marissa and the nurse shaking nervously by the hallway. My mom was on her way to regaining her full health and that was all that mattered. To hell with Marissa and the snobby nurse. The guards bowed as I stepped out through the revolving doors and it didn't even feel weird. Maybe this life wasn't so bad. My deadbeat father was gone and my mother was getting the best treatment she deserved, all courtesy of life as an Aldoracco. Maybe it wasn't so bad afterall, I smiled to myself as I got into the car. Suddenly, I felt the urge to do something fun to celebrate. There was no one with me and I didn't like eating out alone, so lunch was out of it. Shopping! Yes! I had had enough of wearing uncomfortable dresses when I didn't feel like it. So, shopping it was. “Pull over at the mall. I want to get some clothes.” I said to the driver. “Yes, ma'am.” He answered mechanically. But when he drove past two different malls, I wondered if he heard what I said at all. “You've gone past two different malls now. I said I wanted to stop at one.” “I'm sorry, ma'am. But the Aldoracco mall is just round the next bend. We'll pull up there and you'll get whatever you want, ma'am.” ‘Wow, not so bad,’ I thought to myself as he manoeuvred the car deftly through traffic. We pulled into the car park and the size of it diminished the vastness I thought I'd seen at the hospital. The place was huge! We stepped out of the car and I was kind of surprised when the guard didn't try to come in with me. “You're safer here than anywhere else in the city, ma'am.” He said simply and I nodded. Stepping into the mall through the glass doors held open by the guards, I was surprised the mall was cleared out and the entire staff was assembled in two lines, flanking the walkway. “Hello, ma'am. It's such a pleasure to meet you. I'm Alfred Raymond, the manager.” A man said, extending his outstretched hand for a handshake. He was a small man but the aura he exuded made anyone next to him look smaller than he was. “Nice to meet you, Alfred,” I smiled, taking his hand in mine. “I'm L–” “Mrs Aldoracco!” he boomed, cutting me short in excitement. I wondered if every new customer got this grand welcome. I didn't have to think too far before he confirmed my thoughts. “We cleared out the mall immediately we got the news you'd be visiting us. I hope you find everything to your taste and if you need anything, please call on anyone. Everyone here is at your service,” he said with a slight bow. “Please, come with me, I believe you're interested in the clothes section.” He urged, walking briskly and I followed him down the walkway into a huge colourful hallway, with a super sized sign that read “Clothes” in huge neon letters. “I'll leave you to it, ma'am, but I'm within hearing distance. Whatever you need.” He said excitedly, scurrying away. I shook my head, a smile dancing around my lips. It would definitely take some getting used to, being waited on hands and feet. I looked through the collection of t-shirts and tops and I found more than a few that caught my interest. Their stash was definitely impressive. And the price tags that followed the clothes told me the store wasn't meant for low income earners. I got a few tops off the rack and some comfortable slacks and pants. I moved on to the dress section and I was amazed by their collection. My salary couldn't get me ten of these dresses at once. I got five glamorous but comfortable dresses off the racks and added them to my cart. I started pushing the cart out of the section when a sales representative sprung into the room to relieve me of it. “I hope you're satisfied with your picks, ma'am.” Alfred said as soon as we stepped out of the clothes section. I gave him a nod and a smile as he oversaw the cashier packing my items into bags. “Thank you, Alfred. Thank you everyone, you're all so lovely.” I said, acknowledging the staff standing us, looking apprehensive. They visibly relaxed, and a few of them even heaved sighs of relief. I got into the car, still smiling and watched on as the driver loaded my shopping into the trunk of the car. In minutes, we were back on the highway, speeding through the mild traffic back home. As the driver eased the car into the compound, I let out a sigh of relief. I survived a whole day of being chauffeur driven around the city with an entourage of escorts. “Let me take that.” I insisted, as the driver made to go in with my shopping bags. He had done enough today. “I'll do it, ma'am.” “No, it's okay, really. I can manage a few bags up the stairs and into my own room, okay? Thank you.” I said, giving him a smile. He bowed slightly as I took the bags from him. The guards swung the doors open and I stepped into a quiet house. The house was usually silent, but today's silence echoed loudly. Eerily. I stepped tentatively into the sitting room. I silently started up the stairs but a sound wafted into my ears from a room downstairs. I stopped in my tracks, my heart beating crazily behind my ribcage. I tiptoed back down the stairs and padded quietly towards where the sound came from. My heart was almost jumping out of my mouth, and I had half the mind to turn back and head upstairs to my room. But the other half of me, the curious part, won. I held on tightly to my shopping bags, making sure they made no sounds hitting against each other. I heard the sound again, louder this time. What the hell was going on? I inches closer, step after step towards the room where the sound was coming from. I stood, almost shivering in front of a menacingly huge and solid door. This was definitely where the sound came from, and just on cue, I heard it again, louder this time. It was a man. And he was definitely in pain. I moved close to the door and saw it was slightly ajar. Though the room was fairly dark, I could make out the images of men in the room. I counted three, including a man tied to the chair he was sitting on. My heart raced even faster than I thought it was doing before. This was a battered man. A broken man. His entire face was bloodied and swollen and he whimpered quietly to himself. “Tell me, Marco. Where is he?” A voice wafted quietly from the shadows. I would recognise the voice even in my deepest sleep. It was Kelvin's. I strained my eyes and I saw him, sitting, relaxed, and…enjoying the show. “I swear to you, Boss. I don't know,” the man whimpered louder, coughing up blood in the process. “That is a lie, Marco. And you and I know it is.” Kelvin answered. “Take out another of his fingers. Maybe then he will remember where the motherfucker who he betrayed me with, is hiding.” I watched in horror as one of the standing men advanced towards Marco with a plier. The other man held down his hand. He struggled against his hard grip, but being tied down, there was only so much he could do. My eyes widened in terror as a heart wrenching cry came out of his throat. The man with the plier dropped the finger in a bowl of previously removed fingers. “I'm so sorry, Boss. I'm so sorry. Stop, please! Make it stop!” He screamed. “You can make it stop, Marc.” Kelvin answered, coolly. “You can make it stop my telling me where the fuck Boyd disappeared to. I know he told you because I know you were also planning to leave the country.” “Please, boss..” he kept whimpering. I stood transfixed to the spot, wondering the kind of pain that could make a fully grown man whimper and beg like a child. Balls of sweat rolled down my face, under my arms, down my thighs. “Where is Boyd?” Kelvin asked again. “I– he only tol– told me he was leaving the country. He didn't tell me where, boss. I swear.” “Hand the pliers to me,” Kelvin said, stepping out of the shadows, stretching his hand out for the pliers. “Hold his head steady.” He beckoned to the men, rolling back his sleeves to reveal arms covered in dark tattoos. “Boss..” One of the men held his head steady and the other forcefully opened his mouth, holding it open while Kelvin advanced towards him with the pliers. “Hold him steady.” Kelvin said, and in a minute, one of the man’s molars was hanging between the teeth of the pliers. Spittle, blood and tears ran down his swollen face as he struggled to get his words out. “I'm not gonna ask you again, Marc. If you don't know where Boyd is, then I have no use for you, nor do I have any use for your tongue. It's gonna be the next thing coming out of your mouth.” “Please, boss..” “Hold him steady.” The men grabbed his face again and against the struggle, his spittle and blood splashed on the men’s face as he screamed, “Wait, wait!” “You're ready to talk?” “I– I don't know where he is right now, but I– I know where he's going to be.” He panted. “He's picking up his daughter from his mother's house in Wyo– Wyoming. He's leaving with her.” “Now, that wasn't so fucking hard, was it?” Kelvin said. “I'm so sorry, boss. It'll never happen again.” “That's right, Marc. It'll never happen again. And don't worry, I've forgiven you.” He advanced towards him. Something about the way he moved was terrifyingly final. He bent down to his eye level and cradled his head in both of his hands. Marco’s eyes bulged, filled with terror in their sockets, like he knew something terrible was about to happen. In a second, the most horrendous thing I'd ever witnessed happened right before my eyes, making my blood run terrifyingly cold. Kelvin stroked his bloodied face between his hands and in the blink of an eye, he opened his palm wide and smashed it together, but with Marc's face between his palms. My eyes bulged in sockets and I heard the shopping bags fall off my hands, their content spilling loudly on the floor. My hands flew to my throat and my mouth as I felt bile rise up to my throat. What the fuck did I just get myself into?Kelvin's POV“Killing me would not serve any purpose sir. P…please…for..forgive me this once. It's my first time I ever made a mistake.”There were a lot of things I despised and of all those, three stood out the most on my list. Ingrates, prostitutes, and worst of all, I hated people who didn't get the job done.I exhaled sharply, running a hand down my face as exhaustion settled deep in my bones. Now I had to think of getting new people who would get the job done.“Your last mistake,” I muttered, my voice drawling with laziness and disinterestedness. “It had to be your last mistake.” The man nodded frantically, his eyes wide with desperation. “Y-Yes, sir. I swear! I’ll never fail again—” I lifted a hand, and he instantly fell silent. Then, with a flick of my fingers, the shadows in the room stirred. Figures dressed in black, moving like ghosts, emerged from the corners. Silent. Efficient. Deadly. Trained by me.Before the man could even draw another breath, they descended
Laura's POVMy hands trembled as I twisted the bathroom faucet, sending a rush of cool water spilling into the porcelain sink. The moment it touched my skin, I scrubbed. Hard. The water swirled pink as I watched the stain of his blood slide off my fingers, the color stark against the white basin. My breath came in quick, uneven bursts, but no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t stop shaking. I braced my hands against the edge of the sink, gripping the cold ceramic as I stared at my reflection. I looked…Like a woman who had just seen a monster. And I had. A ruthless, cold-blooded executioner. A man who had killed without hesitation, without remorse. He has killed that man with his bare hands. Crushing his skull with his fingers.I squeezed my eyes shut, trying to rid my mind of the sound of that man’s screams. The way his body had thrashed before the life drained out of him. And then… Kelvin’s voice. Smooth. Lazy. Completely unaffected. The way he had laughed when I a
Laura's POV“You remember what happened the last time don't you? She came in here strutting around like a proud peacock but ended up being put in her place by the boss.” One of the voices filtered in.“Yeah right. The walk of shame was epic. Who the hell does she think she is?” Another contributed to the seemingly never old gossip. I was honestly tired of it. I mean, there were a lot of things to say about me now. Especially that I was now married to one of the most dangerous humans walking the earth.I flushed the toilet and knew they'd be shocked when I walked out the cubicle. They always seemed to be able to run their mouths until I was around them. Then they go completely quiet. It was honestly very funny to me.I stepped out of the cubicle, my heels clicking against the tiled floor, and just as I expected, the room went dead silent. The two women who had been so confidently gossiping only moments ago suddenly froze, their faces draining of color as they registered my presence.
Laura's POVThe restaurant was the definition of extravagance, dim lighting, plush velvet chairs, and a soft symphony of violin music humming in the background. A breathtaking view of the New York skyline stretched across the floor-to-ceiling windows, but I barely noticed any of it. Because I was seated across from him.His fingers idly toyed with the stem of his wine glass, swirling the dark red liquid inside with an elegance that almost distracted me from the man himself. He looked like a picturesque depiction of a vampire.I was beginning to think that my obsession for dark romance, vampires and Greek gods had led me to this life.In a way, I thought of myself as being like Persephone. Only that there was nothing in between us but business.I forced myself to sit still, even though every fiber of my being screamed at me to flee. "You look tense," he murmured, his voice smooth, deep, effortlessly laced with authority. I bristled but kept my expression neutral. "That's because
Laura's POVI didn’t have time for this. Whoever she was, whether a lover, an old flame, or just some spoiled princess throwing a tantrum, it wasn’t my business. Kelvin was the one who she wanted to see, and if he wanted to entertain his guests, that was on him. I had survived a dinner with his father tonight. That alone had drained every ounce of energy I had left. The last thing I needed was to get dragged into some ridiculous territorial dispute over a man I barely tolerated. So, I did the most mature thing I could. I ignored her. Without another word, I turned on my heel and started walking toward my room. I barely made it three steps before I heard her scoff. Then, the sharp click of heels against marble as she rushed after me. “Hey! I wasn’t done talking to you—” She reached for my arm. Big mistake. Before her fingers could touch me, a strong hand shot out, blocking her movement. It was one of the guards. I didn’t stop walking, but I slowed just enough to g
Laura's POVBy the time dinner was over, I felt like I had lived through two days instead of one. Between the silent battle with Kelvin’s father, the unexpected confrontation with Katie, and whatever strange, unreadable mood Kelvin was in, I was utterly drained. Katie had eventually given up on prying and settled for making a series of exaggerated sighs before excusing herself from the table. Kelvin remained as detached as ever, his presence a looming shadow even when he said nothing. I didn’t bother waiting around to see if he would say anything else. Without a word, I pushed my chair back and left, heading straight for my room. The second I closed the door behind me, I exhaled. For a brief moment, I just stood there, leaning against the wood, my fingers pressed against my temples. My head throbbed with the weight of the day’s events, exhaustion creeping into every part of my body. This was only the beginning. If today had felt this overwhelming, how was I supposed to g
Laura's POVI barely registered the sound of my own footsteps as I sprinted back toward the house, my heart pounding, not just from the run, but from the sudden awareness of what had just happened. The easy laughter, the lightness I had felt, the way I had let my guard slip with that stranger. What the hell was I thinking? I burst through the front door, breathing heavily, and made a beeline for my room, ignoring everything and everyone. I needed a moment. Just one moment to make sense of what had happened. The second I stepped inside, I shut the door behind me and leaned against it, dragging in deep, uneven breaths. My mind was a mess of emotions, confusion, guilt, and something dangerously close to excitement. But before I could sort through any of it, a cold shiver ran down my spine. I wasn’t alone. The air in the room felt different, charged, heavy, suffocating. My instincts screamed at me before I even turned around. I already knew who it was. Slowly, I turned,
Laura's POVAfter I exited the shower, I toweled off and made my way to bed. My body was still tingling, certainly ready for more attention. Thanks to that bastard who suddenly left me hanging!Whatever threat it was he had to give, there was no way anyone was going to see me like this.I grabbed the small shoebox I kept hidden in the back of the closet and pulled out my vibrator. Other than my own fingers, it was the only thing that had been inside my pussy in years, and today it was going to get a workout.I eased myself down onto the bed and basked in the softness of the cotton sheets against my naked skin. My fingers twisted the base of my toy to turn it on its lowest setting, and then I began teasing my nipples with the tip, one after the other. I thought about what had almost happened once more as my nipples grew hard and wondered just what else he would have done to me if he hadn't stopped. I imagined him rubbing them, and then bending over to kiss and suck them.I knew it was
Laura's POVI might have just gotten us both into trouble.I thought to myself, my mind racing with fear and adrenaline. This had to be the Rocci's doing. They were the only ones who had a reason to want me dead.As Kelvin kept driving, weaving in and out of traffic, another shot rang out. This time, Kelvin grunted, his face twisted in pain."Kelvin!" I screamed, my heart racing with fear.He didn't respond, his eyes fixed on the road as he continued to drive. I scrambled up from the floor, my eyes scanning his body for any signs of injury.A dark stain was spreading across his shoulder, and I felt a wave of panic wash over me. He was hit!He didn't as much as flinch, his face still twisted in pain. But his eyes remained fixed on the road, his hands gripping the steering wheel tightly. He reached into his jacket and pulled out a gun.Without taking his eyes off the road, he fired a shot at the sedan's tires. The sound of shattering glass and screeching rubber filled the air as the sed
Laura's POV I walked out of the boutique, feeling a sense of satisfaction wash over me. I had stood up for myself, and I had come out on top. As I stepped into the mall's corridor, I noticed one of the attendants from the boutique hurrying after me. "Miss, wait!" she called, her voice urgent. I turned, curious, and she caught up to me, her eyes wide with worry. "Please, be careful," she whispered, glancing around nervously. I raised an eyebrow, confused. "What do you mean?" The attendant's voice dropped to a whisper. "You just offended one of the Roccis. They're... not people to be trifled with." I felt a shiver run down my spine as I remembered Stacy's words. "Victor Rocci's daughter," I murmured. The attendant nodded, tears welling up in her eyes. "Yes. You don't understand what you've just done. The Roccis... they have power. They can ruin people's lives with just one phone call." I felt a surge of unease, but I stood my ground. "I'm not afraid of them," I said, trying to so
Laura's POV The bright lights of the shopping mall made me squint as we stepped inside. The cool air-conditioning was a welcome relief from the warmth outside, but my mood was still sour from being dragged out of bed. Kelvin walked beside me, his usual commanding presence making people instinctively step aside while some admired his godly handsomeness. His expression was unreadable, but I knew him well enough to sense the satisfaction beneath his calm exterior. He enjoyed dragging me along to these things, probably just to irritate me. Still, I wasn’t going to complain too much. If I had to suffer through three days of social torture, I might as well look good while doing it. We walked into one of the most luxurious boutiques in the mall, and I immediately started browsing. The soft fabric, the intricate designs, yeah, I was in heaven. I picked up a deep red evening gown, running my fingers over the smooth material. Just as I was about to lift it off the rack, another hand l
Kelvin's POVThe dim glow of my desk lamp cast long shadows across the office as I skimmed through the latest shipment reports. Something wasn’t adding up. The numbers were there, but they didn’t match reality. A knock at the door. "Come in," I said without looking up. Dylan stepped inside, his usual smugness absent. That alone was a red flag. He closed the door behind him, his posture tense, arms crossed. "We have a problem," he said flatly. I exhaled slowly, shutting the laptop and giving him my full attention. "Of course, we do. What now?" Dylan tossed a file onto my desk. "Some of our goods from the last shipment never made it to the warehouse." I opened the file, scanning the details. My jaw tightened. The missing cargo wasn’t small, whoever pulled this off had either serious guts or a death wish. "How much?" I asked, my voice colder than before. "Enough to make you want to kill someone," Dylan said, his tone dry but his eyes sharp. "And enough that if we don’t
Laura's POVI stumbled into the mansion, my legs trembling beneath me. Every muscle in my body screamed in protest, begging for mercy. I was done. Finished. Exhausted.Physically. Emotionally. Spiritually. Everything hurt. My legs felt like they had been through a meat grinder, my arms were noodles, and my pride? Oh, my pride was dead. Dylan had wrecked me. I had spent the entire session getting tossed around like a damn rag doll, and now every single step I took was pure torture. And it was all Kelvin’s fault. “That manipulative, arrogant, controlling son of a—” I gritted out as I dragged myself down the hallway, cursing him under my breath. If I had one ounce of energy left in my body, I’d march straight to his office, flip his stupid, expensive desk over, and wring his neck. But as it was, I barely had the strength to make it to my room in one piece. Katie, who had been waiting for me in the living room, took one look at me and burst into laughter. "Oh my God, you look
Laura's POVControl. That was what this was about. I stood there, staring at Kelvin, my heart still racing from the bomb he had just dropped. Training? Seriously? Like I was some kind of soldier? Like I needed to be constantly on edge, waiting for an attack? This was his revenge. It had to be. He hadn’t liked that I walked out on him last night. Hadn’t liked that I had held my ground, pushed back, refused to let him have the last word. And now, here he was, demanding control again. I exhaled slowly, keeping my expression neutral even as irritation simmered beneath my skin. "Let me get this straight," I said, crossing my arms. "You want me to train again because of this... gathering?" Kelvin didn't blink. "Yes." "And what exactly is the gathering?" A muscle in his jaw ticked, like he was debating how much to tell me. Which only irritated me more. I raised an eyebrow. "Kelvin." "It's a meeting," he finally said. "One that happens every few years between certain...
Kelvin's POVThe moment Laura walked out of my room last night, head high, voice sharp, and eyes blazing with defiance, I knew. I was in trouble. And fuck, did I love it. I had expected fury. Maybe even tears. But that? That little show she had put on? The way she had smirked at me and sauntered away, knowing full well I was left standing there, naked and fuming? Damn.I let out a low chuckle, shaking my head as I sprawled back on my bed. She thought she had won. Thought she could shake me. Cute. I ran a hand through my damp hair, still smirking to myself. Laura had always had fire in her, but this? This was different. This was a woman who was ready to play the game. And I fucking loved the game. I reached for my phone and dialed Dylan. He picked up on the second ring, his voice gruff with sleep. "Boss?"“We’re going underground,” I said simply. A pause. Then a knowing sigh. “That bad?”I grinned. “That good.” Dylan chuckled. "Alright, give me thirty. I’ll meet
Laura's POVThe moment I stepped out of his room, my heart hammered wildly against my ribs like a bitch.Holy. Shit. I did that. I actually did that. The moment replayed in my mind like a perfectly scripted scene, the way I had shoved him back, the way I had sauntered out like I wasn’t seconds away from completely losing control. And then the way he had stood there, stark naked, with that dark, hungry look in his eyes… A strangled squeal slipped past my lips before I could stop it. I pressed a hand over my mouth, muffling the sound as I hurried down the hallway. My entire body buzzed with adrenaline, a dizzy mix of triumph and absolute disbelief. Kelvin Aldoracco was a bastard. An infuriating, smug, cheating bastard. But for once, I had the upper hand. I practically threw myself into my bedroom, slamming the door shut behind me. Leaning against it, I exhaled shakily, trying to calm the fire still burning under my skin. My hands trembled, but with exhilaration. A giddy
Laura's POVThe city lights flickered, painting the streets in a beautiful mix of gold and silver, but all I saw was red.He left me.I had waited. Like a fool, I had sat in that damn office, watching the clock, assuming he would, at the very least, have the decency to take me home. But no, Kelvin Aldoracco was too much of a bastard for even that.My fingers curled into fists as I walked toward the nearest bus stop. The heels I wore pinched my feet, but I refused to let myself stumble. I wouldn't give him that satisfaction, even if he wasn't here to see it.The bus arrived with a hiss, and I stepped inside, dropping a few bills into the slot before finding a seat near the window.Maybe I should ask Katie how to hide a dead body. Not that I was planning anything. Yet.But the idea of stuffing Kelvin into a trunk and tossing him into the river had a certain poetic appeal. Maybe I’d start with his stupid, expensive ties. Strangle him with one just for the irony. The thought made me smirk
