Kelvin's POV

I sat at the back of the club, my legs spread wide as I sat back in the chair, running a finger over my lips. Hardening at the sound of her whimpering on my laos and grinding against me. She knew exactly what she was doing.

I licked my teeth beneath my lips, running my hand down her waist and wanting to reach for the rock forming down my thigh at the idea of her helplessness. I gazed at the wooden door with hooded eyes, wanting to give in to my desires, but then the bastard walked in.

My fingers flexed against her waist as my gaze snapped toward the man who had just entered. A slow, irritated breath left my lips, my amusement fading into something far colder.

"Rodrigo." I called out with thinly veiled disdain.

The older man smirked, taking his time as he crossed the room, the scent of his expensive cigar mingling with the lingering traces of gunpowder in the air. He had always carried himself with an air of arrogance, as if the world owed him something.

I simply wanted his head on a platter.

He was my father’s trusted aide, one of the few men who had been in the Aldoracco family’s inner circle for years. But to me, he was nothing more than a vulture, circling around power, waiting for scraps to fall into his hands.

"You look comfortable," He commented, directing his beady eyes to Laura with a knowing smirk. "I see you've found yourself another pretty distraction."

My grip on her tightened instinctively, all I wanted was to feed those beads to my dogs.

I hardly got infuriated by idiots, but he was an exception. He always had a way of speaking that made my skin crawl. Not just because of his words, but because of the way he looked at what was mine, like he was constantly sizing them up, deciding whether they were useful or disposable.

Due to the undying respect I had for my old man, this thorn in my side would stay alive…for now.

"You’re late," I said flatly, choosing not to acknowledge the man’s comment about Laura. He knew nothing.

He chuckled, taking a slow drag from his cigar as he settled into the chair across from me. The bastard had the audacity to look amused, as if he wasn’t intruding, as if his very presence didn’t make my skin crawl.

“I don’t rush for children playing at being kings,” he said smoothly, exhaling a curl of smoke.

I let go of Laura, signalling the guards to take her out of the room for what might happen next. Even though all I wanted was to scream at what I would do….scream beneath me.

I waited for her to leave. A rare moment of courtesy. But like always, she didn't fail to surprise me.

“Don't touch me. I'm staying here.” She sounded pissed and looked as mad as a fucking doll. I couldn't help the grin that slipped my lips as I watched her stubbornly resist them with fire in her eyes and strut back to side down comfortably at my side.

This demon was attracted to danger.

She loved it.

And I couldn't love anything more.

But I wasn’t in the mood for any of this dead man's games tonight. I thought as I turned my heavy gaze back to him.

“You’re here because I allow it,” I said coldly, my fingers tracing absent patterns on Laura’s thigh. I didn’t miss the way his gaze flicked to the movement before settling back on me, his smirk deepening.

“Is that so?” he mused, leaning back lazily. “Funny, I recall a time when you had no say in these matters.”

I forced a smile, all teeth, no humor. “And yet, here we are. My father is relaxing somewhere on a vacation, and I’m the one sitting at the head of the table.”

His expression didn’t change, but I saw the flicker of something in his eyes. Annoyance. Maybe even resentment. Good.

I thrived on control, and I wasn’t about to let him forget who had it now.

“This meeting isn’t about the past,” I continued, my voice smooth. “It’s about the deal.”

Rodrigo exhaled another slow puff of smoke before nodding. “Right. Business first, pleasure later.” His gaze flickered to Laura again, a little too long, a little too interested. I felt intense rage building in my chest.

My fingers tightened on her thigh, a silent warning.

Rodrigo wasn’t stupid. He caught the message, lifting his hands in mock surrender. “Relax, Kelvin. I’m not here to step on your toes. Just… appreciating your taste.”

I leaned forward slightly, letting the tension coil between us. “You don’t have the right to appreciate anything of mine.”

His smirk didn’t waver, but I saw the flicker of recognition in his eyes. It was a threat that we both understood.

He thought I had forgotten. That time had dulled the memories, made me overlook the sins he carried like a second skin.

But I never forgot.

“A weak, pathetic and unworthy heir” he had sneered as he struck me hard across the face.

I had found my dog, Coeur, with his innard gutted and left to bleed out right in front of my room, like a poorly wrapped present.

I was eight.

And he had stood there, watching with cold amusement as I screamed, as I cradled the dying body in my arms, pleading for someone to help.

He had helped in making me into the monster that I was.

And I had discovered a sickly secret. One that could destroy everything. Including my father. I thought with an evil smile if now was the best time to end everything. Open the rotten can of worms or just watch from the side like I always had.

The bastard never truly served my father.

No, he served my mother.

The woman who whispered to him in the dead of night, who gave him orders that contradicted my father’s, who treated him like a fuck toy.

I knew what my father did not.

Rodrigo was never truly his man, he was hers.

Catalina's POVThe moment Kelvin released me, gesturing for the guards to take me away, a wave of fury crashed through me. Like hell I was going anywhere. My fingers clenched into fists at my sides as the guards reached for me, and without hesitation, I yanked my arm free. My heart pounded, but not from fear. No, this was something else. Something deeper. Something wild. "Don't touch me." My voice came out sharp, slicing through the thick tension in the room. "I'm staying here." I ignored the way Rodrigo’s gaze flickered to me with mild amusement. I didn't care what he thought. Or what Kelvin thought. All I knew was that I had had enough of being dismissed, shoved aside whenever it was convenient. Kelvin had brought me into this world. And now he wanted to push me out when it no longer suited him? No. Not this time. I walked back, my steps deliberate, and sank into the seat beside him, crossing my legs as if I belonged here. Because I did. Kelvin turned his gaze to m

Laura's POVI sometimes did things without thinking. It is what some would refer to as bravery and others would see as being stupid. My pulse beat steadily, my body still humming with the defiance I had just laid bare. And then, Rodrigo moved. Without warning, he reached out and grabbed the wrist of the woman beside him who had been covered. Her cloak fell open to reveal a sultry blonde with vacant eyes, dressed in a sleek red dress that clung to her curves like a second skin. Her painted lips parted slightly, but before she could make a sound, Rodrigo yanked her onto his lap with a force that sent the chair scraping against the floor. The sharp gasp that escaped her was drowned out by his low, amused chuckle. "You see," Rodrigo drawled, his voice laced with cruel amusement, "this is how bitches are supposed to be treated." And then he crushed his mouth against hers. It wasn’t a kiss. It was a claim, a show of power, a deliberate spectacle meant to remind everyone in the r

Laura's POVThe world went dark. For a moment, I thought my heart had finally betrayed me, that the tension crackling in the air had stolen my sight. But then I felt the soft brush of silk against my skin and the delicate weight of fabric settling over my face. A mask. He had placed a mask on me. The realization sent a bolt of anger straight through my spine. The audacity. It was a silent demand laced in such a simple gesture. I reached up and curled my fingers around the edges of the mask, but before I could rip it away, his hand shot out, gripping my wrist with just enough force to make his point. "Keep it on," he murmured. His voice was dark honey, smooth and thick, wrapping around me like a promise or a threat…I wasn’t sure which. I tilted my head, pretending to be indifferent, even as my blood roared beneath my skin. "Why? Afraid my face might cause more trouble for you?" Kelvin chuckled, the sound low and dangerous. "No, Catalina. I’m afraid it might get you k

Kelvin's POVI held her chin between my fingers, feeling the warmth of her skin beneath my touch. Her lips parted slightly, and her breathing was uneven and filled with the scent if whiskey. She was testing me and pushing me. And damn it, I liked it. Her challenge hung between us, thickening the air, twisting the tension into something tangible. My grip tightened just enough to make her feel it, just enough to remind her who she was dealing with. "You want me to make you?" I murmured, tilting my head. Her smirk didn’t waver, but her pulse did, fluttering at the base of her throat like a trapped bird. I pulled her up in one swift motion, forcing her to her feet. She stumbled, the whiskey making her legs less steady than she probably wanted to admit. My other hand shot out, gripping her waist, steadying her. She sucked in a sharp breath, fingers curling against my chest before she caught herself and tried to pull away. I didn’t let her. Instead, I leaned in. My lips brus

Laura's POVA groan slipped past my lips as I stirred, my head throbbing with a dull, persistent ache. My mouth was dry—so dry it felt like I’d swallowed sandpaper in my sleep. I blinked against the dim light filtering through the closed curtains, my body heavy with exhaustion. Everything felt too warm, too soft, and I instinctively buried myself deeper into the mattress, seeking comfort. But something was off. The scent surrounding me wasn’t familiar. It was musky and smelt like a clean shave, with a hint of something deeper underneath. And what's with the heat pressing against my back?My heart lurched. I turned, moving sluggishly, and came face-to-face with a broad chest rising and falling in steady breaths. My fingers, traitorous as they were, had been gripping the fabric of his shirt in my sleep. I stiffened. Oh. Oh no. Slowly, hesitantly, I lifted my gaze. And there he was. Lying beside me. In my bed. His dark lashes rested against his sharp cheekbones, his lips

Laura's POVWith every ounce of willpower I had left, I twisted my body sharply, slipping beneath his arm in one swift motion. My heart pounded as I scrambled to the edge of the bed, putting much-needed space between us. His dark eyes followed my movements, amusement flickering in their depths. His smirk remained, damn near infuriating, as he leaned back against the pillows, completely unbothered. “Impressive,” he mused, stretching lazily, like a predator who knew the prey was still within reach. He reminded me of a cat lazily playing with a mouse. “I didn’t think you had it in you.” I shot him a glare, my breath still uneven. “There’s a lot you don’t know about me.” His smirk widened. “Oh, I intend to find out.” I exhaled sharply, willing my pulse to slow. This man was a menace. A walking, talking disaster wrapped in an infuriatingly attractive package. He swung his legs over the bed and stood, rolling his shoulders with the kind of effortless confidence that made my stom

Laura's POVI rushed through getting dressed, swapping my oversized sweater for a crisp blouse and a pencil skirt. My headache lingered, but there was no time to dwell on it. Katie watched from the couch, arms crossed, a knowing smirk still playing on her lips. “You’re really running away from this conversation, huh?” she teased as I grabbed my bag. “I’m going to work,” I corrected, slipping into my heels. “Uh-huh. Convenient,” she mused, standing and stretching. “Fine, I’ll let you off the hook—for now. But I expect details later.” I rolled my eyes, already heading for the door. “Thanks for the soup. Kind of.” Katie laughed. “You’ll be begging for it next time.” I doubted that, but I didn’t argue because I knew there was no way on earth I was going to get this stupidly drunk again.By the time I arrived at the office, the atmosphere was thick with tension. The usual hum of conversations and the side glances I usually got was missing. Instead, it was replaced with murmurs

Laura's POVI sat at my desk, staring blankly at my computer screen. My fingers hovered over the keyboard, but my mind was far from the spreadsheet I was supposed to be working on. Aldoracco. It had to be a coincidence. Didn’t it? But deep down, I knew better. That name wasn’t common. And if it was him…if it was really him, then my life was about to be ripped apart all over again. This was the one thing I had not connected to him. And now, in some cruel twist of fate, he might be my new boss? I shook my head, forcing myself to think rationally. It could be his father. Or a cousin. Maybe someone completely unrelated. I just had to keep my head down and do my job. If it was him… I’d deal with it then. Nathan’s voice snapped me out of my daze. “Hey, you okay? You’ve been staring at your screen for the last five minutes.” I forced a tight smile. “I’m fine. Just… thinking.” “Well, think fast because we’re all about to be under a microscope,” he muttered, adjusting his tie

Laura's POV I walked out of the boutique, feeling a sense of satisfaction wash over me. I had stood up for myself, and I had come out on top. As I stepped into the mall's corridor, I noticed one of the attendants from the boutique hurrying after me. "Miss, wait!" she called, her voice urgent. I turned, curious, and she caught up to me, her eyes wide with worry. "Please, be careful," she whispered, glancing around nervously. I raised an eyebrow, confused. "What do you mean?" The attendant's voice dropped to a whisper. "You just offended one of the Roccis. They're... not people to be trifled with." I felt a shiver run down my spine as I remembered Stacy's words. "Victor Rocci's daughter," I murmured. The attendant nodded, tears welling up in her eyes. "Yes. You don't understand what you've just done. The Roccis... they have power. They can ruin people's lives with just one phone call." I felt a surge of unease, but I stood my ground. "I'm not afraid of them," I said, trying to so

  • Flames of love and war   Chapter 61

Laura's POV The bright lights of the shopping mall made me squint as we stepped inside. The cool air-conditioning was a welcome relief from the warmth outside, but my mood was still sour from being dragged out of bed. Kelvin walked beside me, his usual commanding presence making people instinctively step aside while some admired his godly handsomeness. His expression was unreadable, but I knew him well enough to sense the satisfaction beneath his calm exterior. He enjoyed dragging me along to these things, probably just to irritate me. Still, I wasn’t going to complain too much. If I had to suffer through three days of social torture, I might as well look good while doing it. We walked into one of the most luxurious boutiques in the mall, and I immediately started browsing. The soft fabric, the intricate designs, yeah, I was in heaven. I picked up a deep red evening gown, running my fingers over the smooth material. Just as I was about to lift it off the rack, another hand l

Kelvin's POVThe dim glow of my desk lamp cast long shadows across the office as I skimmed through the latest shipment reports. Something wasn’t adding up. The numbers were there, but they didn’t match reality. A knock at the door. "Come in," I said without looking up. Dylan stepped inside, his usual smugness absent. That alone was a red flag. He closed the door behind him, his posture tense, arms crossed. "We have a problem," he said flatly. I exhaled slowly, shutting the laptop and giving him my full attention. "Of course, we do. What now?" Dylan tossed a file onto my desk. "Some of our goods from the last shipment never made it to the warehouse." I opened the file, scanning the details. My jaw tightened. The missing cargo wasn’t small, whoever pulled this off had either serious guts or a death wish. "How much?" I asked, my voice colder than before. "Enough to make you want to kill someone," Dylan said, his tone dry but his eyes sharp. "And enough that if we don’t

Laura's POVI stumbled into the mansion, my legs trembling beneath me. Every muscle in my body screamed in protest, begging for mercy. I was done. Finished. Exhausted.Physically. Emotionally. Spiritually. Everything hurt. My legs felt like they had been through a meat grinder, my arms were noodles, and my pride? Oh, my pride was dead. Dylan had wrecked me. I had spent the entire session getting tossed around like a damn rag doll, and now every single step I took was pure torture. And it was all Kelvin’s fault. “That manipulative, arrogant, controlling son of a—” I gritted out as I dragged myself down the hallway, cursing him under my breath. If I had one ounce of energy left in my body, I’d march straight to his office, flip his stupid, expensive desk over, and wring his neck. But as it was, I barely had the strength to make it to my room in one piece. Katie, who had been waiting for me in the living room, took one look at me and burst into laughter. "Oh my God, you look

Laura's POVControl. That was what this was about. I stood there, staring at Kelvin, my heart still racing from the bomb he had just dropped. Training? Seriously? Like I was some kind of soldier? Like I needed to be constantly on edge, waiting for an attack? This was his revenge. It had to be. He hadn’t liked that I walked out on him last night. Hadn’t liked that I had held my ground, pushed back, refused to let him have the last word. And now, here he was, demanding control again. I exhaled slowly, keeping my expression neutral even as irritation simmered beneath my skin. "Let me get this straight," I said, crossing my arms. "You want me to train again because of this... gathering?" Kelvin didn't blink. "Yes." "And what exactly is the gathering?" A muscle in his jaw ticked, like he was debating how much to tell me. Which only irritated me more. I raised an eyebrow. "Kelvin." "It's a meeting," he finally said. "One that happens every few years between certain...

Kelvin's POVThe moment Laura walked out of my room last night, head high, voice sharp, and eyes blazing with defiance, I knew. I was in trouble. And fuck, did I love it. I had expected fury. Maybe even tears. But that? That little show she had put on? The way she had smirked at me and sauntered away, knowing full well I was left standing there, naked and fuming? Damn.I let out a low chuckle, shaking my head as I sprawled back on my bed. She thought she had won. Thought she could shake me. Cute. I ran a hand through my damp hair, still smirking to myself. Laura had always had fire in her, but this? This was different. This was a woman who was ready to play the game. And I fucking loved the game. I reached for my phone and dialed Dylan. He picked up on the second ring, his voice gruff with sleep. "Boss?"“We’re going underground,” I said simply. A pause. Then a knowing sigh. “That bad?”I grinned. “That good.” Dylan chuckled. "Alright, give me thirty. I’ll meet

Laura's POVThe moment I stepped out of his room, my heart hammered wildly against my ribs like a bitch.Holy. Shit. I did that. I actually did that. The moment replayed in my mind like a perfectly scripted scene, the way I had shoved him back, the way I had sauntered out like I wasn’t seconds away from completely losing control. And then the way he had stood there, stark naked, with that dark, hungry look in his eyes… A strangled squeal slipped past my lips before I could stop it. I pressed a hand over my mouth, muffling the sound as I hurried down the hallway. My entire body buzzed with adrenaline, a dizzy mix of triumph and absolute disbelief. Kelvin Aldoracco was a bastard. An infuriating, smug, cheating bastard. But for once, I had the upper hand. I practically threw myself into my bedroom, slamming the door shut behind me. Leaning against it, I exhaled shakily, trying to calm the fire still burning under my skin. My hands trembled, but with exhilaration. A giddy

Like a fool, I had sat in that damn office, watching the clock, assuming he would, at the very least, have the decency to take me home. But no, Kelvin Aldoracco was too much of a bastard for even that.My fingers curled into fists as I walked toward the nearest bus stop. The heels I wore pinched my feet, but I refused to let myself stumble. I wouldn't give him that satisfaction, even if he wasn't here to see it.The bus arrived with a hiss, and I stepped inside, dropping a few bills into the slot before finding a seat near the window.Maybe I should ask Katie how to hide a dead body. Not that I was planning anything. Yet.But the idea of stuffing Kelvin into a trunk and tossing him into the river had a certain poetic appeal. Maybe I’d start with his stupid, expensive ties. Strangle him with one just for the irony. The thought made me smirk
