Dean’s POV
I am Dean Smith. My father, Mike Smith, just handed me the pack, and I am the new Alpha. I am twenty-three and waiting for Maureen Brown to turn eighteen. She is the beta’s daughter, and I know the Moon Goddess meant for us to be together. The beta, Morris Brown, is turning his title over to his son and my best friend, Martin Brown. Today is Maureen’s birthday, and we are planning a big party for tonight. I will accept her as my mate tonight. Everything is arranged, and I am getting dressed. I have big plans for the Red River pack. I will unite all the smaller packs around us under my pack. Those who do not want to join us will have to fight us. I will have the biggest and strongest pack in America. I walk downstairs as the party is about to start. I can not wait for my mate! I walk to where Maureen and Martin are waiting for me.
“Hello, honey. Are you ready to become my Luna?” I ask.
“As ready as ever! I can not wait to be yours forever, baby,” Maureen says. She is a cheerleader and the most beautiful she-wolf in my pack. Tonight when she turns eighteen, she will get her wolf, and I am sure her wolf will be as strong as she is. Someone bumps into me, and I sigh as I see it is her pathetic cousin Tamara. She is working at the party as she is good for nothing.
“Watch where you are going, you stupid pathetic excuse for a she-wolf!” I shout.
“Sorry, Alpha,” She mumbles and walks away with the dirty glasses in her hand. I can not believe she is the daughter of my father’s first beta, Borris Brown, and his wife, Bianca Brown. They were the best warriors the pack ever had, but they died protecting the pack from a rogue attack.
“Isn’t it her birthday as well? I remember you and her were born on the same night at the same time. Everyone said that one would be strong and the other weak, as the Moon Goddess can only bless one at a time,” I laugh.
“Well, it looks like the Moon Goddess blessed me! I am the pretty and strong one,” Maureen says. She is not modest but does not have to be, and her beauty speaks for itself.
“You are the blessed one, my love,” I say. I look at the young petite girl scrambling away with the dirty dishes trying to stay out of everyone’s way. Pathetic! Her uncle and aunt took in Tamara Brown, but she has always embarrassed them. She can do nothing right and is clumsy. All that counts in her favor is that she is above-average clever. You must have something counting for you if you are ugly and weak. Maureen was born at precisely a minute past midnight. So we will wait until then. At twelve, everyone gathers around the stage, and the weakest wolves stand aside, except for Tamara, who is even too pathetic for the weaklings. She wears a hoody and jeans most of the time.
It is one minute past twelve, and I wait, but nothing happens. Tamara moans and I look at her, and I smell her! It can not be! She smells like the lilies in the field and rain! It can not be! The Moon Goddess can not be this cruel. I walk over to her, and she looks up. I can see the fear in her eyes as I stand before her.
“I, Alpha Dean Smith, reject you, Tamara Brown, you pathetic little orphan, as my mate and Luna,” I say. I have plans for this pack, and I first want to eliminate all the pathetic wolves in my pack. I can not believe that the Moon Goddess played such a trick on me by giving me the most pathetic she-wolf in his pack as my mate.
“I, Tamara Brown, accept your rejection, Alpha Dean Smith. I may be a pathetic orphan in your eyes, but my parents gave their lives for your pack,” Tamara says. I am furious! How dare she not beg me to make her stay?
“Get out! Take the pathetic bunch of wolves with you! I never want to see you again! The Red River pack does not need useless wolves like you!” I shout. I have plans for the Red River pack. I aim to make it the biggest and best pack in America, and I have no place for wolves who can not fight!
Tamara starts walking away, and the other “pathetic wolves” follow her.
“Why are you following me? You also do not like me! Go your own way,” Tamara says as she walks towards the border of the Red Wood Pack. Is she just going to leave like this? I can not believe she is not begging and crying. Is she as pathetic as we all think?
“Stop! Why are you not begging to stay? Perhaps if you get on your knees and beg me, I will let you and the losers stay,” I say. I want to humiliate her for even thinking she can be my mate. Tamara stops and turns around. I knew it! She is going to beg me to stay. She walks back to me and stops before me.
“I am tired of you walking all over me! I will not beg to stay! You will regret your actions one day. I may be pathetic and a loser in your eyes as the rest of the wolves you just chased away, but I will not beg you to stay in your pack. Good luck with your plans to make this the strongest pack. Goodbye. Don’t worry. You will never see this pathetic she-wolf again,” Tamara says. Tamara removes her hoodie, and her shining black hair blows in the wind. Her emerald green eyes look into mine, and it feels like she is looking into my soul. I hear some of the wolves take in a deep breath. Tamara Brown is not ugly! She looks like a goddess in the moonlight. She turns around and starts walking away again.
“Well, that was interesting. Why would the Moon Goddess give you the pathetic one as a mate?” Maureen asks.
“Well, I rejected her. I can make you my mate, and we can all forget what just happened,” I say. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Tamara shifting. I turn to see how pathetic her wolf looks, but to my surprise and everyone looking, her wolf is pure black and strong. I am stunned. It can not be! The big black wolf runs into the woods and disappears out of our sight.
“I must be dreaming. It can not be! Did Tamara shift into a black wolf? Only Alphas have black wolves,” Martin says.
“It must be the moonlight. Maybe the brown of her wolf reflected black,” I say. I turn back to Moreen, who does not look as beautiful as she did before. Why are the long black hair and green eyes of Tamara haunting me? With her long blond hair and blue eyes, Maureen does not look as beautiful as Tamara, and she does not have the same goddess-like look as Tamara. I shake my head. Tamara is a weakling and not worthy of any of my thoughts. She is gone with the other weaker wolves of our pack. She will not be back, and I can forget about her now. Maureen looks at me and smiles, but I see something is wrong.
“Shift!” Zeron, my wolf, commands her. As the Alpha, everyone must listen to me when I demand they do something.
“I cannot shift. I do not have a wolf. Why can’t I feel my wolf? Something is wrong!” Maureen says.
”So I left my mate for somebody that does not even have a wolf. How can this be? Who are you, and why don’t you have a wolf?” I ask.
”I don't know what is going on. And you know me. Dean, I am Maureen. Maureen, the woman that you have always loved. Why can't you just see that it is still me, even if I don't have a wolf,” Maureen cries.
”No, Maureen, I don't know you. I thought you were somebody I could be with for the rest of my life. Now I know that I cannot be with you. I cannot be with a Luna, that does not have a wolf. I am pissed off that you are not the one that is strong. How can you even think I will be with somebody weaker than the woman I just chased away? I chased away my true mate. For someone like you? And who do you think you are to tell me that I must love you? I don't have to do anything. I am the Alpha. My pack will be stronger without you. And I cannot be with you. Be with somebody that is a weakling. Get lost. If I did not respect your mother and father, I would have changed it out of my pack," I say. I walk away and go to my study.
I'm furious, and I can feel my wolf is also angry. She cannot be our mate. There is no way I can have a mate that does not have a wolf. My pack will be very disappointed. I chased away a powerful Luna. I have to get her back. But how? Where will I find her? I bet she will never even talk to me again. She had already told me that she would not see me again. Or rather, that I will never have to see the pathetic wolf again. What have I done? What will I tell my parents? Maureen was not who I thought she would be. She seems like an impostor. Only imposters don't have wolves in a wolf pack. I have to talk to Maureen's mother and father. They must know why she doesn't have a wolf. Maybe she's a late bloomer. I don't know what to think. I don't know what to say. I am dumbstruck. Everything went wrong. Tonight was supposed to be my night. How can this be? Why can't I get what I wanted? I wanted my Luna.
Perhaps the moon goddess is trying to tell me something. Am I too proud and egoistic? I thought I would have the strongest pack in the world. How can I have the strongest pack in the world if I don't have a Luna? Tamara is out there somewhere. I don't know where she is. What if something happens to her? What if she runs into rogues? How could I just let her out of my life? The Moon Goddess chose her for me. Maybe I should go and look for her. I am too proud. I cannot admit that I was wrong. I am the alpha of the Red River pack. I cannot beg a pathetic little wolf to take me back. I am Dean Smith, the Alpha of the Red River back.
”We were stupid. We were proud, and we were wrong. We should go and look for our mate. She's out there all alone by herself, with a bunch of pathetic little wolves that cannot protect her," Zeron says.
”We cannot go after her, and she will never accept us again. Yes, we messed up, but we can find another mate. Even a stronger mate. Someone worthy of us. Maybe the Brown family is the problem. They don't have strong enough females for us. The she-wolf is not our mate. I refuse to take a pathetic little wolf as my mate just because I think she is better than the one I wanted," I say.
"You're being stubborn. You know, we will never find another mate like her. You have seen her, and she looked like a goddess. Her black hair and emerald green eyes will forever be in your mind. Why don't you stop being an asshole and go and fetch your mate?" Zeron says.
I cannot get myself to go after her. Tamara is out of my life. I have to move on, and I have to find another mate. This is all wrong. I know I've messed up, and I should have waited until Maureen showed me her wolf.
Then again, how can I ever forget Tamara? She looked so beautiful under the moonlight tonight, and I knew she was my Luna. But I turned her away. I chased the way, my precious love. I know the Moon Goddess is going to be very angry with me. My mate that was supposed to help me lead to this pack is gone. And it's all my fault.
Tamara's POVI am pissed off. Fuck Alpha Dean, and fuck the rest of the pack! I am sick and tired of them. I think they can always walk right over me. But I am tired of that. I am nobody's slave anymore. I know I kept myself pathetic in the pack, but that was because I needed to protect myself from the Alpha. You see, I already got my wolf when I was sixteen. I knew I had an alpha wolf but could not tell anybody about it because there could be only one Alpha in a pack. What I did not expect was that I was going to be Alpha Dean's mate. The Luna of the pack is usually the female Alpha. Maybe the moon goddess knew I would be the Luna of the Red River pack. That is why she gave me an Alpha wolf. I do not know. And right now, I do not care. All I want to do is get away from them. I now have to break my bond with the pack at the border of the Red River pack. I run to the border, followed by the pathetic other wolves of the pack. Most of them are not worried, and most of them cannot fight
Third Person's POV Dean feels Tamara breaking the bond with the Pack, which upsets him more than he will admit. Dean can feel that his wolf is upset as he withdraws from him. There is a knock on his door. "Come in," Dean says. Martin, his best friend, comes walking in. "Alpha Dean, I don't know what happened, and I do not understand why my sister did not get her wolf. I will get behind it and tell you what the hell is going on as soon as I know," Martin says. He can see his friend is upset. " It is not your fault that Maureen did not get her wolf. You do not have to feel guilty about your sister not having a wolf. I just wished I knew about her not having a wolf before I turned down my true mate. Tamara is stronger than we think, and I think she knew long ago that she had an alpha wolf. You know that Alphas turn at sixteen for the first time. Tamara must have known, since she was sixteen, that she was an alpha wolf. And she had to protect herself from me. That is why she never tol
Dean's POVI am furious at myself for making myself think that Maureen is my mate and that I must vent my frustrations on somebody or something. I have not talked to Maureen or her parents or even spoken to my parents. I want to be left alone. I called my warriors together because a pack has been giving us a lot of trouble lately. I think it is time that we take them out. Those of them that want to join us and join us. And those that don't want to join us can go to hell. I call Martin into my office and tell him to get out of our warriors ready. We are going to war. The Silver Moon Pack is frustrating me, and the Alpha is cocky. Today, I want to fight. I want to get my mind off Tamara. We have been looking for the last week. I could not find one sign of her. I could not find any indication of the other wolves that left with her. I don't eat with the other wolves. I eat in my office. I try to ignore everyone. I wonder if Tamara even has food. Where is she sleeping at night? Is she safe
Tamara's POV"There is a fight at the Silver Moon Pack, and Alpha Dean and his warriors are there. He killed their Alpha and let the weaker wolves go and those who did not want to join him and his Pack. What shall we do about the wolves, Alpha?" Mikey, who is now officially my beta, asks me."The house is big enough for everybody, and we might as well go and fetch the poor things before they end up in the hands of the vampires. Stay in the trees again. We cannot leave our scent on the ground. As long as we do not touch the ground, I do not think the wolves will find us because they only look for us on the forest floor. I don't think they will ever think about us moving around in the trees. How many bows and arrows do we have? I hope we have enough. At least we have the silver your uncle was hiding in his house. Now let's go and see if we can save the poor wolves that had been chased away," I say. We do not wait because we know how dangerous these wood can be. If they go and look for s
Dean's POVEvery day that goes by and I do not find my mate makes me angrier. My parents tried to talk to me, but I didn't want to talk to them now. I do not wish to speak to them about Maureen or her family. The only one in her family I'm still talking to is Martin. I am sitting in my office when my father knocks at the door. The door is open, so I show him to come in. I know I cannot avoid everybody. I will have to talk about what happened that night when Maureen was supposed to become a mate. My father looks at me as he walks into the office."You have become very quiet. Your mother and I hardly see you. Maureen cries daily because you don't want to talk to her. We all know what happened and that Tamara is your mate. Maureen thinks you blame her for not having a wolf. You know, you cannot ignore her for the rest of her life here. We'll have to go and talk to her. Her mother and father are also driving me crazy. They want to know when you will become mates, and they do not understan
Dean's POVI am waiting for Morris and Doreen Brown to come to my office the following morning. We have a lot to discuss. I hope they did not run away from the Pack during the night. If they did, I would know that they are guilty of something. I will go after them, and I will find out the truth. They better be here this morning, or else they will regret it. It is almost ten o'clock when they arrive. Morris and Doreen look as if they are coming to fight with me. I am not in the mood for them and do not want to talk to them. But I know I have to, and I have to find out the truth. They will not lie to me. I will know when they lie to me."Good morning, Alpha. We are here as you requested. We do not understand why you want to see us, but we cannot let you chase our daughter out of the Pack. Maureen was crying last night and told us you broke your relationship with her, and we do not understand why because she will get her wolf eventually. You know that everyone doesn't get their rules at
Tamara's POVI have gained a lot of new members to my Pack. As Dean is attacking the other Packs, more and more are coming to join us. We are making new friends every day. We have made friends with the gypsies that are living around us. And we are supplying the food while they supply us with clothing. I love the gypsies as they can provide us with clothing that will not tear when we shift. They used their magic to help us do that. The gypsies are very friendly and have become great friends with us. We do not think they are not cunning, and many people do not trust them. We trust them because we believe that they are some of the best allies you can have. Our gypsy friends have only been good to us. They are also children of the Moon Goddess. The gypsies are also helping Mariam with her magical wolf. We are all glad that her magic is not as chaotic as it used to be. We were afraid that Miriam would hurt us whenever she did magic. Now we are not that afraid anymore. She still gets her ma
Dean's POVI got up with the Rogues. It is not a long fight, and we kill them fast. I feel happy that I have killed the Rogues that killed Tamara's parents. She is gone when I return to where Tamara, her uncle, aunt, and cousin are waiting. I was sure that Tamara would wait for me. Why did she leave after I ran after the Rogues that killed her father and mother? I have so many questions I want to ask her. I thought that she would like to be my mate. But like, I feared, she did not want to, and she ran off again. It makes me angry that I cannot pick up her scent."Where did she go?" I ask Morris. "She went ..." He starts, but before he can answer me, a silver arrow hits him between the eyes. The other two are too afraid to talk. Doreen starts to cry as her mate falls dead at her feet, and Maureen stares at her father's body. I know the arrow came from Tamara, which was a warning shot to the other two that they should not talk, and it seems like the arrow has come from the treetops. I
Dean's POVI can see that Jonathan White is now really worried. He had seen what had happened to his friend when he tried to fight Tamara. He must know now that we are indeed the first Alphas. I know that he is not willing to fight me anymore, but he cannot back down now because he was the one that challenged me. I will not allow him to back down. I am going to fight him. I am sick and tired of people thinking they are better than others. I want him to understand that there is no such thing as someone being better because of their background or the money they have. Jonathan White wants to talk to me, and I can see his doubts. I do not care what he thinks, and I do not care what he believes. But today, we are going to fight. I know that I can beat him without any problems. "Alpha Dean, I am very sorry about what I have done. My Pack is not as strong as yours, and I am not as strong as you are. I know that I have promised you that I will fight you, but I cannot. Please spare me and my
Tamara's POV"Your father is here. I'm ready for this fight, please, honey. Believe me. I can handle this. I will make this fight as quick as possible. I will not put your child in too much danger. I promise you I will walk out of this fight victorious. Our baby and I will be fine. I can promise you that I will not put his life in danger. He is already in my heart," I say as we walk outside to meet his father. Jonathan White is with him, and I can see that both of them are ready to fight us. "Our enemies have arrived and are ready to fight us. I know we will be fighting both of them, but if you need my help, do not hesitate to ask for my help," Dean says."I will not hesitate to ask your help, especially if our child is in danger. How old baby comes first, and I promise you I will not do anything to harm it. Now, Honey, get ready. We are going to fight. We are going to show these snobs. Who is the boss? I know they think they are better than us, but they can be better than us. We are
Tamara's POVI am up a little the following morning. I want to be ready for my fight with Mike Smith. I know that Alpha Jonathan White has challenged Dean. We both know how that is going to end. Both Mike Smith and Jonathan White will die today. We are ready for our fight, but I like to prepare. And that is why I am up early. I don't want to prepare physically but mentally as well. I know that I can do this. I know I can beat him, but I want to pray to Moon Goddess to help me today. I know you trust me because she gave me all this power I have as a first alpha. She would not have made me a first alpha if she did not believe in me. I have to show her I am proud of what you made me. Today I'm not fighting for my honor. I am fighting for the glory of the Moon Goddess."Are you ready to fight today, my love?" Dean asks from behind me."I have never been as ready for a fight as I am today. I am sorry, I will have to kill your father. I do not want to do that, but I believe what he has done
Dean's POVI am furious at my father for daring to challenge my mate. Why does he not challenge me? Does he think he can be the woman? I know Tamara has already accepted the challenge, but I am not happy about it. I do not believe that my father should have challenged Tamara. He should have challenged me. Although Tamara and I are the alphas of the Red River Pack, it doesn't feel right for a man to challenge a woman. What kind of person is my father? He is a coward who will only challenge women and think he can win them."Do not make us lose more respect for you, Mike. Why would you challenge Tamara, who is a woman? It would be best to reconsider your actions because we can no longer stand behind you. We had respect for you because you were our alpha once. But a man challenges a woman because he thinks he can win her in a fight. Does not deserve any of our respect," One of the elders says. I can see that nobody has respect for my father, and I cannot blame them. I do not have respect
Mike's POV Drake betrayed me. And now all my spies are gone from the Pack, and I do not know what is happening there. Only I can get my hands on him. I will kill him myself. How dare he? He took my money and gave it to that stupid woman, now the Luna of the Red River Pack. I am sure I can get somebody to kill her, but I do not know who and where I will find somebody willing to fight her because I am desperate to get rid of her. She is the reason that the Pack and my son all turned against me. "So Drake turned against you. What are you going to do now? Do you think I should still sponsor you? I do not want war against my Pack and the Red River Pack. You have promised me that my daughter will become your son's mate. However, I cannot see that happening because you are not a man of your word. I am not willing to risk my Pack. I will go to Dean and talk to him about what you have done because I will not be a part of this and will turn my back on you and your wife. My daughter can get a
Tamara's POVI know Dean feels guilty because of what his father did. I wish I could tell him I do not hold it against him and that he would believe me. I know we must take care of his father and friends. They are a bunch of snobs thinking that they are better than everybody else. And we cannot allow that to happen in this Pack again. They can go to another pack if they do not want me as their Luna. I am not going to feel guilty for who I am. My parents were murdered, and that is why I am an orphan. It was not my fault that they were murdered. It was Mike Smith's fault. I am still sitting with Dean holding him."I wish you would stop blaming yourself, but I can hear the men coming with the traitors anyway. Let's take care of them first, and then we decide what we will do about your father. I want to stay close to you instead of close to Drake. I think that the two of us can decide what we will do about your father when we get to that problem. I want you to know I love you and do not b
Dean's POV After hearing what Drake had to tell me, I feel that my father has betrayed all of us our whole lives. I cannot believe that he is this wicked. How could he kill his best friend and then pretend his brother did it? I wondered how much he paid those rogues to kill Borris and Bianca. Borris was more of a father to me than he was. It was the one that protected me against Mike. I cannot think of Mike as my father anymore. I am not hurt. I am pissed off. My whole life, I have tried to impress Mike. I tried to be the son he wanted me to be. Now I find out that he has feet of clay. I never realized what a snob my father was. He thinks he's better than everybody else, and nobody can come near his son because he is supposed to be like him. I cannot believe I tried to please him my whole life, but then again, I was young and the boy without a wolf that my father beat into submission. He made me believe I was better than everybody else and that the weaker wolves should leave our Pack
Drake's POVI watch Mike as he walks out of the bar. The stupid man thinks I am going to fight against a First Alpha. He just gave me a lot of money to do nothing because I would not fight Tamara Smith. He can call her Tamara Brown, but we all know she is the Luna of Dean Smith. We all know we cannot mess with her without getting into trouble with Dean. Am I going to betray him? Of course, I will betray him because I won't give him his money back and will not allow his wealthy friends to come after me and my friends. Basically, I have two options. I have to run from this area, which I'm not planning to do, or I can go to Dean and Tamara and tell them what Mike is planning. I look at my mates at the other end of the bar. I called him to come over. Chelsea is the first one to come over to me. I know it is because she is in love with me. Vanessa sharmains. Scott and Donovan follow. "What's up, boss?" Scott is the first one to ask."What do you think about killing Tamara Smith?" I ask."
Mike's POVI have to go and see some of my rogue friends. I need to talk to them because I want them to help me eliminate Tamara. I know the rogues do not like the Red River Pack. I know they do not want them to be around, and they do not want a Luna for the Red River Pack. I will have to make a plan. I will have to get the Tamara away from the Pack and in the claws of the rogues. I know the ropes will have to have a beautiful little girl like her in their grip. I do not care what they do to her as long as she never comes near my son and the Red River Pack again. It is her fault that my son wants nothing to do with me. However, I first have to go and see the rogues. The ones that killed Tamara's parents are now dead. But I know a few others, and I will go and see them and ask them if they are willing to work with me again. Of course, they will get paid as much as last time. I hope that I will believe me and not think that I will put them in a lot of trouble by telling them to kill he
