She frowned and shrugged it off. This was her chance to interrogate the sheriff about his plan of action for finding Bran.

“If you are correct that your brother is in that forest, then we need to put together a bunch of people to go find him. It would be easier to find clues when you have more people sweeping the area.”

“So let’s do it. How do we get these people?”

“Hold on. I still need to check forest services and the other campgrounds if they saw him. Then we start from there.”

“He was in town two weeks ago. So does that mean we start from the beginning of the trails?”

“We could, but that might be pointless. Let me do my job and I’ll get back to you.”

“When will that be?”

“A couple of days, probably. There are a lot of areas to cover.”

“But I don’t have a few days. My brother has been missing for two weeks now and I know something has happened because he never failed to call me every weekend. I’ve been hanging around the pub since yesterday and haven’t seen him since.”

‘Yes, take me against this door.’“Get inside, Brianna, before I do something we’ll both regret.” Bree opened her eyes, confused, as Grayson ground the words from between clenched teeth, his eyes shut close.‘Shit!’ Bree scrambled with the key to her room in embarrassment. She dared not look back for fear of seeing the disgust on Grayson’s face. Thankfully, one of them was thinking clearly, and Grayson stopped before she begged him to fuck her. Bree’s chest heaved in and out, unable to catch enough air. She questioned her sanity about what occurred outside her door. She had never been promiscuous before, never even exhibited any strong feelings for anyone, but every time Grayson came around, she could not help herself from throwing herself at his feet.‘Get your head out of the gutter, Brianna. Focus on Brandon.’ Brandon. She came to town to find him and not get entangled with a certain hot, muscular sheriff. If only she could get the memories of kissing Grayson out of her head. Eac

It must be a spell because he would never act in such a way around any woman.Brianna opened her eyes, and he hurriedly zipped his pants back up and scrambled to get as far from her as soon as possible. He had to be brash or he would never find the nerve to pull away because his self-control was waning fast. There was nothing in the world he’d rather do than consume every inch of Brianna, but he needed her to be on board.‘Claim her,’ Slate insisted as Grayson ran toward the bar where he left his vehicle.‘No. Get out of my head.’ Grayson fought for control, and he won.Slate, his wolf, had never been vocal about his opinions before., although always present, he was always more in the background.Grayson had been aware of his presence since he was a pup and Slate would occasionally jump into his head during decision-making as the voice of reason, but had never forced Grayson to shift or interfere with his choices. So the situation made Grayson wonder why the wolf was so attached to Br

“Give me the phone,” Grayson’s gruff voice came closer and Bree could hear shuffling on the other line, so she expelled a sigh of relief. After their encounter last night, Bree expected him to avoid talking to her at all costs. She was hazy about the details. All she knew was that she kissed Grayson, and minutes later, he left like his ass was on fire.So much for using her charms to get what she wanted.“Sheriff Walker, how can I help you, Ms. Stone?” The mere sound of his voice made her skin tingly all over. Bree felt like he was right there, whispering in her ear that it raised the hair on her neck. In order to have a proper conversation with the Sherriff Bree had to take a deep breath to steady her nerves. “Oh, good.” She swallowed. “You already know it’s me, so I—”“There’s only one tourist in town right now calling the office every day, so I assumed it was you. How can I help you?”“Remember last night—”“It’s something you should forget.” He cut her off sternly.“No! I won’t!

That morning, Grayson reported to the Sheriff’s office as if nothing had happened. He lacked sleep, thinking about his inner wolf and why Slate kept insisting Brianna was his mate. Grayson had a lot of questions, but after telling him to butt out when he was with Brianna, Slate never resurfaced, as if he did not exist without her.Just as he walked through the door, he was bombarded with the report of another animal attack, so his entire morning had been occupied by calls, questions, and site visits, pushing Brianna to the back of his mind. Still, she was never far from it, as her image popped into his mind every time he had a minute to think. Visions of her lovely smile, captivating brown eyes, or just the conversation they had the night before jumped up when he was unaware.Grayson had been satisfied with his life. He had lived in Silvercreek all his years, and he did not want to be anywhere else.It had been his dream to follow in his father’s footsteps, and he was proud of the ex

There were beady eyes everywhere the light shone, but she knew it was just the creatures of the night coming out to forage for their meals. After a few seconds, her eyes adjusted to the darkness, and she could see the silhouette of the animals she had been initially afraid of.On the GPS, it said she had walked at most 15 miles into the forest, with a steady elevation of 3000 feet. Bree was surprised the workout did not make her sweat. There was no burn in her muscles, so she thought it would be better to keep hiking, but then the darkness seemed to swallow everything in its path, and she decided it was time to set up camp. There would be more hiking for the days to come, and she had to conserve energy since she had no clue when the search would end. The plan was to hit the popular camping and hiking areas while they were busy, hoping someone had seen or encountered Brandon. But she was nowhere near the campsites or her projected targets.Bree tried not to get disheartened since it w

When the image of Bran and the connection she felt disappeared, Brianna poked around the campgrounds. She could see remnants of fire pits people used for camping, but the ashes were too dry to say if they had been lit recently. It was a popular spot, so she expected to run into someone at the site, but it was empty.Surely, she thought, they wouldn’t have heard about the animal attacks unless someone from town warned them. It made her wonder if the forest service even visited the sites to check on the campers. Sooner or later, she hoped to bump into one of them to ask about Brandon. The fatigue of the first day and the headache throbbing in her head made Bree re-think about her plans for the day. Not having the energy to move forward after having a meal, she took a quick power nap to get her strength back before heading to the next campsite. It was twilight by the time she awoke and Brianna cursed herself for sleeping too long. It would be ridiculous to walk in the dark, so she opted

As the prints became obvious and more defined, Bree became more fearful.Something in the back of her mind told Bree the dream might be real. She did not want to acknowledge that stress made her sleepwalk in the forest with a wolf as a guide. So, instead of checking if her foot matched the indentations on the ground, she just looked for more clues, hoping that it would lead back to the campsite.Their family were experts at avoidance. They skirted around issues that addressed heavy topics, so it was no surprise she wanted the footprints to be a mystery. Ignorance was bliss. They got this trait from their grandma, who never answered questions they had about their heritage. The trail was taking her away from the river and she got worried. Bree looked at the path behind her, but after several minutes of hesitation, she followed the prints again, reluctantly. What was she doing in the wild, playing with a wolf? It had been several days since Grayson heard from Brianna. In the beginning, he thought she was just avoiding him because of the uncomfortable situation they got into a few days ago. Brianna threw herself at him and gave him permission to take her to bed. But he knew she was still learning to control her urges, so he had to stop them both from making the biggest mistake of their lives. He had a feeling she was not the type of woman who had a one-night stand and creeped out of someone’s house in the morning, never to be heard from again. She appeared more classy than that and he wanted to believe that Brianna had relationships because she was in love with her partner.Turning her down had been the hardest thing he had to do, but he also wanted to be the better man and make sure that when they came together, it was because she was in control, and her actions were not dictated by her wolf.Grayson had never met anyone like Brianna before. I got up, yet my body remained on the bed. Am I still dreaming?I walked through the house and checked through the rooms, yet everyone else was asleep and nobody even felt that I was there.Downstairs, I heard some sound originating from the kitchen, so I went to investigate. A shadow opened the oven door and took out several biscuits that were still warming on the tray. I hid behind a post, afraid that the oven light would give away my position, but when the person passed by the island and grabbed a few chocolate chip cookies, I knew they were oblivious to my presence. Why would someone steal from the ranch kitchen when Amelia welcomed anyone who wanted to come over and eat? Curious about the person’s motive and identity, I followed the robber and was surprised the person led me to the barn. Keeping a safe distance, I followed several steps away and saw the person go up the stairs to the hayloft. There were no lights around, so I wondered how the person could see in the dark. Are

“Brandon has burn marks on his back and they looks fresh.”“What? Where?” Bree tried to pull the blanket covering Bran’s body to see the evidence herself, but Grayson used his feet to sweep her aside.“You know that your brother is naked under the sheets. Do you think he’ll be happy to know that you saw him without his clothes?”“I’ve seen him naked plenty of times.”“Brianna,” Grayson scolded, and for a brief moment she had a reason to smile. “I didn’t see any fire at the site. Where did he get the burn marks?”“Must be a cattle prod, alpha. We found one lying around a few feet away from the site. They tried to hide it, but we were better.” Someone from the back replied.“Bring it to the kitchen. We can locate which ranch it came from.”Gray headed to Brandon’s room as Bree followed behind with worry.“Who would do this? Do you think Seth’s grandpa had found out what happened and sent someone for retaliation?” She asked, eager to know what happened and if they needed to be cautious.

Bran had never been smooth with the ladies, but he never knew anyone who would knee him in the groin without provocation. He just asked for her name. Was that not allowed in society anymore? After recovering from his pain, Bran limped back to the ranch, spending time with the cows forgotten. He figured having a scraggly beard and mustache did not make him appealing to anyone. He probably looked like a hermit, foraging in the woods.‘Not ugly,’ a voice whispered.“Hello!” He called out behind him, wondering where the voice came from.A sharp pain stabbed Bran between his eyes, radiating to the back of his head. The intensity of his headache made him double over and fall onto the leaf-strewn forest floor.‘Bree!’ He called out before hitting the ground. At the ranch, Brianna was busy exchanging stories with Amelia when she heard Bran through their link. Eyes glazing over, she tried to pinpoint his location and failed. Without saying anything, she ran upstairs, only to find his room emp

It had been several days later when Bran finally woke up, and even though he tried to recount the events of what happened in his head, Bran could recall nothing. Two months, he had lost two months from his memories and he wondered if he was missing anything else aside from what Brianna had already told him.He was walking in the pasture, heading for the cows grazing the field, when a scent tickled his nose. The sweet intoxicating aroma of newly baked butter cookies teased his senses and he couldn’t help but follow.“Wait! Who are you?” Bran called out as he caught up to the person weaving between the trees, obviously trying to avoid detection. He was surprised to find a woman clothed in black, her hair tucked under a black beanie.“I don’t want trouble. I just wanted to see how you were doing.” “I’m okay. My memory is a little rusty, but everything will return soon enough.” Marina heard about his amnesia, and she wondered if he knew who she was. They were never officially introduced,

Baked bread, grilled meat, and fried bacon teased the senses as Brandon regained consciousness. A warm, soft hand pressed against his forehead before brushing the hair away from his face.“You’re going to be okay,” an old woman’s voice tickled his ears. Stirring him from slumber.“Nana? I’m sorry…I failed you.”The cushion by Bran’s hip dipped low. “No, you didn’t. You did good. Brianna, Grayson, and the rest of the pack are safe because of you.”Bran struggled to open his eyes, it had been only hours since he had been rescued and his werewolf blood was supposed to wipe out the toxins from his body easily, but the people who captured them dumped too much of the concoction into his body that it would take several more hours to be completely gone.“Do you know you were able to mask every pack member’s presence as they waited outside for their chance to attack?”“What?”“The pack members who were present said the forest appeared like something from a horror movie. Grayson and their group looked out of place. Muscled men coming out of several sports utility vehicles in a hiking area in the middle of the woods didn’t look like a friendly hiking expedition. The sunlight was fading fast in the mountains, and the pack knew the darkness would help camouflage their identities when they shifted. They can’t have reports of multiple untagged and undocumented wolves running around the park when it wasn’t necessary. It could give away their entire existence. But time is of the essence. Seth had intentions of severing the mating bond between Grayson and Brianna. They figured Seth wouldn’t dare kill her, but he could always take her against her will, and that could damage her confidence and reject her bond with Grayson because of her mental state. Not having the exact location for the turnoff marker and the cabin could be troublesome, but they had to do everything for Brianna, or he would never forgive himself.‘Grayson, where are you?’ He almost toppled o

Every wolf hoped to have a mate fated for them to love until the end of time. And when this event happens, nobody could intercede, unless one of the couple decides to reject the bond.“I have a fated mate,” Victor replied, challenging James’ statement.James sneered. “Brianna rejected your bond and has mated with Seth, my most promising alpha, and he deserves it.” Grayson remained impassive. “Our bond goes beyond the physical. I would have felt if it had been severed.”“Which only means there is no such thing.” James sneered.“Just because it never happened to you, it doesn’t mean it’s not true. Do you want to remain obstinate by keeping the twins?” Victor inquired.“Leave one of them to show good faith.”“No! The twins are better off together.” Victor replied.“What are you talking about? “Grandpa, what are you doing here?” Grayson was holding a meeting with the Silvercreek pack elders, which included the werewolves, all the magical individuals, and other shape-shifting creatures that called Silvercreek their home. “I know you are the alpha of this pack, grandson, but it’s not frowned upon to ask for help from your elders when you are in a bind.” All the elders gathered around the table nodded. Earlier, most of the group had expressed that Grayson should have asked them for help before meeting with Seth in the clearing, so the kidnapping could have been avoided. “Attacking another pack should be the last option.” Victor Walker, the pack’s retired alpha, had flown on the red eye from Florida when he learned about the abduction. He wanted to get there first thing the next morning to scold Grayson for not coming prepared.“I am sorry.
