Rachel's POV
I jumped and rushed to my window. Unfortunately, I moved too fast. The world seemed to spin in all directions. I grabbed the windowsill to steady myself."Woah..." I groan. I shut my eyes, and I waited for the world to go still again. All of a sudden, the piercing blue eyes I saw in my dreams flashed before me again."Fuck!" I startled and opened my eyes again. "What the fuck is going on!" I yelled out.Jessica must have really did a number on me. Great. The last thing I need is brain damage from this. I would never hear the end of it with Jessica. Worse, Beth would continue to tell everyone it's another disability I have from not being born to fated mates.Lost in my thoughts again, I almost forgot why I was at the window. As soon as the thought registered I heard another scream. I opened my window and was hit with the strong smell of smoke. I cough and back up.After a few forced coughs, I blink to clear my vision and I peered back out the window and thought my eyes were playing tricks on me.I saw people from my pack scrambling around. The screams were coming from different directions. I could hear more and more screams as people started running towards my house.I tried to peer beyond the buildings to see where the smoke was coming from. It looked like the cloud was being blown from the North. Maybe one of the houses caught fire? If so, why is so many people fleeing and heading towards the packhouse? Our packhouse sits about 150 yards away from my house. I remember my dad picking it out because he wanted to make sure that if ever there was an emergency, his family had the best chance of reaching safety first.I watched men run north while she wolves carrying children darted south. They ran through our yard and headed straight for the pack house. But why?"ROGUES ARE CLOSING IN!!! EVERY WOMAN AND CHILD TO THE FUCKING PACK HOUSE NOW!" Screamed one of the patrol guards.Rogues?? Terror shoot through my body. I turn to run for my door and stumble down the hallway."DAD! BETH! JESSICA!" I scream out. But no answer. I dart across the hall to Jessica's room and bust through her door. Her blinding pink walls, pink bed decor, and silver tassels hanging from her ceiling greet me. But that's it. No Jessica.I fly down the stairs and bolt into the main room, once again screaming out their names. Still no one answers.I run through every room on the bottom floor. Including the closets, but they aren't here. The screaming outside is getting louder and louder. My heart is racing, and I begin to panic. I tried to block out the thought that they left me behind. Maybe they went outside to help. After all,. My father is the Beta. That makes more sense, I tell myself.Everyone here, including me and even the children, are trained in combat. No one expects children to fight, but it's a safety measure to buy them time, and their skills give them something to build on as they grow.Everyone has a job during an emergency. Patrol and men go towards the danger. Women and children take shelter in the packhouse. I must get to the packhouse.I rush to the mud room to grab my tennis shoes. I throw myself to the floor and scramble to get them on. I just got ready to lace my last shoe when I hear someone burst through the front door.My heart stops and I hold my breath.Who is here with me?Rachel's POV My heart is pounding in my ears. I take very slow and quiet breaths to try and calm myself. I close my eyes, but the bright blue eyes that have been haunting me since I woke up flashed forward again! What the hell! This whole situation is like a nightmare, and I am alone. I lean forward and try to peek around the door frame and into the main room. Luckily for me, the mud room is at the back of the house and completely opposite from the front door. I can hear someone running upstairs. I stand up and decide to make my exit through the backdoor. I'm about to reach for the knob when I hear someone running downstairs. I freeze. "Rachel!" Hissed a man. "Rachel! It's Clayton. Are you in here?" "Clayton!" I called back. Clayton Black is our Gamma. He is about 6'3" and very slim. The man is built for speed. He is known to be the fastest in the pack. He is even a monster on the battlefield. All his blows are quick and precise. He has trained with me quite a few times and has a
Rachel's POV Clayton rushes to the window and peeks out again. "Fuck!" He hisses under his breath. He walks away and runs both hands through his blonde hair. I step to the window and look around. I see a girl crying and stumbling across my yard. She is heading towards the pack house! She has long black hair that is braided back. I can make out leaves and tiny little twigs clinging to the braid as she gets closer. Something wet is matted to the side of her face. I squint to get a better look at her. Something seems so familiar about her, but it's too hard to make out who she is. One of her eyes is swollen shut. Her cheeks are red and damp from tears and sweat. Blood is dripping down her nose and over her mouth. I follow the flow of blood as it runs over her lips, down her neck, and to her bare chest. Her bare chest?I blink repeatedly and stare with my mouth open. Her shirt is missing. The girl is only wearing a thin brown skirt with tiny white flowers sprinkled here and there. The
Rachel's POV Clayton was pulling on my hand, practically dragging me towards the backdoor. My feet just wouldn't go. I pulled back, dropping my hands to my side and looked at Clayton. "We need to help Joyce." I said loudly. I knew she needed us. Well, she needed Clayton. "She will make it. But you won't! Rachel, you can't shift on demand. You are vulnerable! I promised your dad I would get you out of here. So I'm getting you out of here." He ordered back at me as he yanked me forward towards the backdoor. Can't shift on demand? I thought to myself. What did he mean? I can't shift at all. Why is he talking to me as if I was a normal she wolf. As if I was like everyone here. I am broken. I am an outcast. I was about to tell him all those things when the female voice whispered to me again. "They are here." She stated."They are here!" I repeated. "Rachel, they aren't here yet. They are...." His voice stopped. He sniffed the air and locked eyes with me. I felt chill bumps roll acros
Rachel's POV I stopped mid run and stared at Joyce. She looked up and met my eyes. I swear I saw her swollen red lips silently word out 'help me'. Behind her, casually stepping through the grass, as if it was a normal day, was three rogues in their wolf form. My heart seemed to break in a million pieces as I watched her crawl towards me in terror. Her eye appeared to be worse than when I saw her through the window. Her beautiful porcelain skin was covered in bruises. Her nose looked clearly broken. Her cupid bow lips were busted in several spots. I watched as her breast swayed with each forced movement she made to escape the men, and they looked covered in human bite marks. I couldn't even begin to imagine what my friend had experienced. The men slowly shifted back into their human forms. They continued to approach her and were laughing! They were mocking Joyce and the agony, they were causing her. They picked up speed and grabbed her by the ankle, and yanked her back to them. Joyc
Rachel's POV Silence spread throughout the field of my backyard. Everything and everyone went still. It was as if I commanded the entire atmosphere to halt for a moment. My eyes are still glued to Joyce. Her body was twisted under the men, and her one good eye sparkled with hope as she watched me walk to her. I had no idea how I could help her. I just knew I couldn't leave her. Not like this. I may not have a wolf, but I was a decent fighter in hand to hand combat. My dad made sure I practiced. I never missed a class. Even when I broke my hand, he forced me to continue to train. He said that in a real fight, no one would show me mercy. That more than likely, I would get hurt. And since I couldn't shift to heal myself, I would have to keep fighting if I wanted to survive. I would have to push through my weakness as a wolfless werewolf and fight through. I just needed to fight long enough for Clayton or our other men to get to us. Joyce and I would survive tonight. The men burst into
Rachel's POV 'Oh Moon Godess, I just fucking punched a rogue!' The thought radiated through my brain! There I stood with my fist up, mouth opened, and eyes as big as saucers staring at a now extremely pissed off rogue.Jean spit blood and cut me a glare. He was about to speak when he stopped. He seemed to be whooshing saliva around in his mouth. He took his large filthy hand and placed it on his jaw. He felt around before taking two of his sausage size fingers and began digging them around in his mouth. My shocked expression changed into disgust as I watched him rummage around in his mouth. It was only a few seconds, but seeing all the blood, dirt, and only Godess knows what else was on his hands made me want to gag. Finally, he pulled his wet, bloody fingers from his mouth and between the two massive meaty phalanx held a yellowish cavity filled tooth. I watched as he tossed it to the ground and spit once more before zoning in on me. "When I'm done with you, the others will fuck
Rachel's POVThe thudding of my own heart beat tuned out any noise that was happening around me. I stared towards Jean's direction and saw his wolf aiming right for me. His eyes were blood red. I noticed that for a big man, his wolf was just fairly average in size. His size gave me a tiny boost of confidence. I've sparred against bigger wolves in my pack. His fur was a deep sandy color with the ends of the hair tipped in black, and they stood on the edge of his back as his rage grew from my resistance to go down without a fight. "You need to move now!" Again, the unknown females voice pulsed in my head. Instead of questioning the voice, I obliged. I swiftly rolled off my belly just as Jean's wolf landed where I once laid. I yanked the rake to me, rolled to my feet, and jumped behind the tree. I saw a blur of sandy fur pass right by me as I took shelter against the tree. I stepped on the end of the rake, braking it to form a pointy weapon. I hissed under my breath as the gash in
Rachel's POV"CLAYTON!" I gasped!I was overwhelmed with so much relief! I felt the tension nearly plummet from my body. Clayton's wolf was a sight to see. He stood tall, his muzzle drenched in Jean's blood. The crimson liquid slowly dripped down his smooth coat, making the deep red in his fur even darker. Hao, Clayton's wolf, looked back to the body of the rogue. Jean's wolf lay lifeless at the base of the tree. I could see blood pour from his neck, soaking into the ground. I rushed towards Hao, but he pushed past me, nearly knocking me back on my ass. He raced past me and slammed right into two light orange wolves.During the scuffle, the other two rogues shifted. Both collided with Hao, and all three rolled around on the ground. Whimpers, snarls, fur, blood, and saliva were flying everywhere as they fought to the death. I tried to move around them and look for Joyce. I had to get her to the packhouse fast. I could see her laying on the ground in the fetal position. She didn'
