Isaac POV

The doctor shook his head and I was suddenly panicking, “Doctor, how is she?” He sighed, “We are once again treating a traumatic brain injury, Alpha. If this one doesn’t cause long-term issues, the next one definitely will.“

I gasped, “What kind of issues are we talking about?” The doctor replied, “Short-term memory loss, long-term memory loss, migraines, balance issues and those are the mild symptoms. At worst, she could forget to walk, speak, or use her arms and hands. She could also experience bouts of extreme aggression.”

I answered, “I believe the goddess said this will be the last war. I can only pray that she won’t suffer any symptoms. She will always have her bodyguards, the girls or me around her. If she starts showing symptoms, we will be sure to bring her to you.” The doctor sighed, “I do want to make sure she is not having symptoms before I discharge her. However, she has to wake up first. The next twenty-four hours will be the most crucial.”

I nodded, “Thank you.

Zariah POVAs soon as everything went dark, I was standing in front of the Moon Goddess, “Just concentrate on me, my child. I am helping you with your pain. Onyx did everything she could to slow down the torture, but Delphine was very mad.”I asked, “What did Onyx mean when she acted as though they had met before?” Selene sighed, “Onyx has had to fight with Delphine or one of her ancestors every time she has been with a human form. Her human form has always been one of your ancestors.”I asked, “Why does this one feel milder than we were expecting?” She answered, “Alpha Damien and Luna Abby have lightened the war that we were expecting for you. She is fighting against other supernaturals right now and forming a multi-species alliance for me. You and Isaac should sign that alliance as well. You will have many other species to call upon when you need them as allies.”I nodded, “I will talk with Isaac about this. I think it’s a great idea.” Selene smiled at me, “Child, I have already put

I asked, “How long was I out this time?” Isaac smiled, “Not nearly as long as we thought you would. That’s promising. You had a really bad head injury, love. This one was the worst one yet. The axe did a lot of damage. I have agreed to not have you involved in any more fighting. It will only make it worse for you.”I lowered my gaze and Lena stepped to my bedside, “Mom, you will be able to join me and Heather in the safe room and we will all use our abilities to kick ass.” I looked at my daughter and chuckled while squinting my eyes in pain, “And take names. Okay. I will do that, sweetie. I don’t want to leave you two motherless.”I then looked at Isaac and both of my daughters, “I have a major headache, but I need the doctor to come in. The Goddess told me there will be permanent damage. She didn’t tell me what the damage is.” Isaac looked at Lena, “Sweetie, would you please get the doctor for us?” She smiled, “Of course.”Heather asked, “Momma, will you be in a wheelchair like Blaine

The next morning, I was awakened by the smell of bacon and eggs and my stomach rumbled loudly. My eyes opened widely and immediately shut again. I opened them again, slowly this time, “I smell bacon.” Isaac laughed, “I brought some breakfast for you. Do you want to sit up?” I nodded, “Yes, please. That smells so good.”Isaac helped elevate the head portion of the bed and I sighed, “I really wish my headache would go away.” Isaac sighed, “I know, love. They want to do another CT scan in a bit to see how the healing is going in your skull. That is what concerns the doctor. I’m hoping Onyx is getting the pieces fused together quickly.” I nodded, “Me too.”I heard Onyx in my mind, “I’m going as fast as I can, but you really got fucked up this time, lady. I takes a long time to fuse bone and I do have to rest sometime.” I chuckled, “I’m really not complaining, Onyx. Seriously, you saved me from getting hurt a lot worse. I will be okay, and that’s all that matters. I apologize, in advance, f

After my CT scan, the nurse wheeled me into my room and my mate was standing there speaking with a mountain of a man. He made my mate look like a child!I was almost speechless because I did not recognize the scent. He smelled almost like a campfire with roasted marshmallows and it made me want a snack.I was chuckling at my thoughts as I started to try to get back in bed. My mate stopped his conversation and lifted me from my chair to put me in bed. They man looked at me and I noticed his eyes. They were very different from ours. They were a beautiful smokey grey but his pupils were reptilian.I smiled as I settled into bed, then held out my hand to the man, unafraid, “Hello. I’m Isaac’s mate and Luna, Zariah.” The man smiled as he shook my hand, “Hello, I’m Uther, King of Dragons. Winnie told me about what happened to you, and I wanted to extend an offer for an alliance with you. Alpha Damien and Luna Abby highly recommended it.”I smiled, “I love them to pieces. It also helps that

After visiting for a while, King Uther left with the promise of a return visit. I looked at my mate, “I have not felt this good since before we were taken. It seems dragon blood is exactly what I needed.” Isaac smiled, “We will have to do something special for Winnie after things settle down.”I agreed with him and another knock sounded on the door. Isaac chuckled, “This has to be the busiest hospital room ever today.” I laughed as I answered, “Come in.” The door opened and a man walked in bringing a sweet-looking wheelchair with him. I smiled, “You must be the custom wheelchair guy.”The man smiled, “I am. My name is Kai Lewis. My company builds custom wheelchairs like this one.” I smiled, “I like the looks of that one.” The wheelchair in front of me was a simple design, but there was nothing portable about it. It had a short back, no armrests and a platform instead of the separate footrests you see on folding wheelchairs.Isaac asked, “Love, wouldn’t you rather have something that ca

I asked, “Been feeling a little outnumbered lately, love?” He laughed out loud, “Only slightly. I’m just very happy we have more than one bathroom. I would have to go to the pack house for a shower.” I was still laughing when he asked, “So? Is it a boy?” I nodded, “It is. He is also the reason why it is my destiny to be paralyzed and I am fine with that.”His eyes widened, “He is paralyzed?” I nodded, “She said he is also a special wolf. He will need us. I found out from Heather that the other kids and the staff in the orphanage call him a burden and make fun of him. I think we need him to show our pack that their leader can still lead with honor and bravery from a wheelchair.”I asked, “You look like you aren’t too keen on the idea.” He shook his head, “That’s not really what I’m thinking. I just don’t want our son to have to struggle.” I cupped his cheek with my hand, “Babe, don’t you understand yet?” He furrowed his brow, “What do you mean?”I laughed, “Love, it’s the struggle that

The nurse and I talked for a while longer and she left me to continue taking my nap. As soon as she was out the door, I relaxed into the awaiting darkness. It seemed as soon as sleep overtook me, so did the light. I opened my eyes and found Selene on a porch swing. She chuckled, “I know that this has been a particularly rough one, but you should know that it has all been for a very good reason. I know you will understand when you meet him.”I nodded, “I’ve already heard some things about him that are bad enough. I will be heartbroken if they aren’t the worst of it.” She sighed, “You have just scratched the surface.” I shook my head in disbelief, “That poor child. He will never want for anything ever again. That includes his family’s love and attention.”Selene smiled at me, “I knew you would feel that way before even meeting him. I do have something to tell you that you should know. The nurse you were speaking with earlier is Blaine’s biological mother. Blaine was conceived by man she

Cheyenne asked, “I know it is okay to talk with all of you here, so I would like to ask one question. What exactly did she tell you?” I smiled, “I know the boy we are going to adopt next is Blaine. I know he is the reason you volunteer at the orphanage. I also know that there are stories she could have told me, but she and I agreed they were your stories to tell… if you ever feel comfortable telling me.I know that hiring you as my nurse and assistant means that you will be able to be his personal nurse also, if that is what you would like. I know that you put him up for adoption to keep him safe. We can keep both of you safe. If you accept the position, it will include a room in the pack house. If you have a mate, you can have the cottage next door, if you want.” She smiled, “I would like that a lot. I just found my mate one month ago and he gets a bit irritated that I spend so much time at the orphanage without getting paid for it. He doesn’t know about Blaine. I don’t know how he w

After the initial crowd of people were let out of the gates, I turned to Isaac, “That’s not all of them. There is one face, in particular, that was not present.” My mate nodded, “I know. I have already sent warriors to get them.” I suddenly watched his eyes glaze over and I knew something was wrong. When his eyes cleared, he growled, “The warriors are having to forcefully bring her and her entire family here. They are refusing to leave.” I sighed, “I was hoping it wouldn’t come to this.” I mind linked Lena, “Hey sweetie, can we use your levitation skills for a bit? We have an argumentative family. They are giving our warriors a hard time about leaving.”She smiled, “Sure, mom. Can I use your computer to look at the cameras?” I smiled, “Please do.” It didn’t take long before the entire family floated to the gate. Isaac smirked, “I never even thought to use our daughter’s ability.” I shrugged, “That’s why you have me, love. We complement each other.”When the family was placed on the gro

After hearing all of them whine and cry on the way out of the pack house, Isaac and I went to the dining room to join our children. When we reached the dining hall, all three of them waved us over to our table. Isaac escorted me to the table and I asked, “Would you please get a glass of tea for me?”Isaac nodded and went to the beverage station to prepare our drinks and I turned to our children, “Blaine, you don’t have to worry about any of them hurting you again. They are being banished. Your dad and I just need to do the official banishment in about an hour.”Blaine asked, “Why in an hour?” I answered, “Because there are a couple of them that did things to you that were so awful that I want every trace of them gone. I want every single family member gone. You understand me, don’t you?” He nodded, “I understand. Thank you, mom.”Isaac sat my coffee in front of me and then took a seat next to Blaine, “We would do anything to keep all of our kids safe.” Blaine asked, “Wouldn’t you do an

Ten minutes later, we were all in Isaac’s office, waiting for the rest of the employees from the orphanage to arrive. I sat in my wheelchair next to Blaine while my girls sat on the couch on my other side. Isaac sat at his desk, smiling at all of us.I asked, “What has you so happy, love?” He smiled, “If you could see what I see, you would be happy too. Seeing my whole family together makes my heart happy.”Blaine furrowed his brow, “What do you mean?” I smiled, “Let me see.” I was able to easily access Isaac’s mind and look through his eyes. I smiled at the sight and turned to the kids, “I wish we could frame this memory and display it in the main foyer. It’s absolutely perfect.”I projected the photo onto the white wall and all of our kids gasped. Lena laughed, “Mom, you need to warn us before you do that. Blaine didn’t know you could do it.” I looked Blaine in the eyes, “Son, you are a special wolf in a family of special wolves. We are going to keep this a secret until you are older

Blaine looked at Isaac and me with determination, “I can tell you who the abusers are, Luna.” I moved my wheelchair close to his and asked, “Are you okay, sweetheart?” He nodded, “I will be okay. I always am.” I smiled, “I know you are. I want to know how you would feel about being able to call the alpha and I your mom and dad?”His eyes went wide as he asked, “Can I call Heather and Lena my sisters?” I laughed as Lena walked in, holding Heather’s hand, “You better, because we will be calling you our little brother.” Blaine smiled, “I would love that, Luna.” Isaac asked, “Do you know what that means, Blaine? Do you know what it means to be our only son?”Blaine shook his head as he furrowed his brows in confusion, “I don’t, Alpha.” Isaac knelt down to his level, “It means you will be my heir. You will be the next alpha of our pack. Would you like that?”Blaine’s eyes went wide again, “I would be happy just having you as my family.” I smiled, “Well, you will also have that for the rest

I understand completely. This is an emotional time. I have something to ask you.”Aadi raised her brow, “Ask away.” I asked, “Would you be willing to be my personal assistant and nurse? I would make sure to allow you time to volunteer at the orphanage, if you want, and you would also be Blaine’s nurse, because we are adopting him as soon as we leave the hospital.”Aadi smiled, “I would love to accept the position. Four hours later, I was in my hospital room trying, and failing, to take a nap. I had too much on my mind and I would start sobbing at random times. I could not find peace within myself at all. I felt so guilty that we could not protect her the way she needed us to.I suddenly felt so heavy that I had no choice but to sleep. As soon as the darkness fell around me, I was immediately surrounded by the brightest light I had ever seen. It was red too. My first thought was, “Shit. I have pissed off the Goddess.” Then I heard her voice, “Yes, you have. Zariah, you know more than anyone that you cannot control the actions of other people.”I cheekily responded, “Well, actually, you did give me a certain ability.” The light got brighter, if that was even possible, “You cannot control what they do on their own. Do not patronize me right now. I’m not in the mood for games. Now. This is what you will do. You will stop feeling sorry for yourself. None of this is about you. It’s about your pack, yo

Aadi and I went to the room where Cheyenne was waiting to be taken for burial preparation. I was immediately struck by the amount of blood that was on the sheet covering her body. Apparently, Aadi was also stricken by the sight because she ran to Cheyenne’s body and collapsed onto it.I asked, “Exactly what was your relationship with Cheyenne, Aadi?” She answered, “Cheyenne was my late mate’s baby sister. She took shelter in this pack after running from a human testing facility. She destroyed the place on her way out of it.”I asked, “Did you know that Blaine is her biological son?” She nodded, “I did. Cheyenne swore me to secrecy. I was with her when she gave birth to him.” I asked, “Do you know who his father is?” She shook her head, “No. I don’t know exactly who he is. I know he was a rogue and a trafficker who had sold her to the lab. He took her virginity on the way to sell her. He’s an evil man. It’s a wonder that she was able to give birth to Blaine.”I cried, “So much for one s

We can reschedule PT until later. It’s not like I’m getting out of here today.”The nurse helped me scoot into my wheelchair and we took off for the Emergency Department like a bat out of hell. When we got there, I found my mate and he was holding our sobbing daughters closely. Heather was the first to see me and she ran to me, “Momma! She’s gone.” I sobbed, “I’m so sorry, sweetheart.”While Heather climbed into my lap, Isaac approached, “She’s right. They couldn’t save her. Her heart had been still for too long.” I shook my head and started crying. The nurse beside me growled, “I need to see her.” I asked Isaac, “Do you think she and I could go see her?” He answered, “Yeah. I can get you both back there.”I asked, “Are you going

TRIGGER WARNING: Domestic abuse scene ahead (this chapter only)It had been two days since we initially spoke with Cheyenne about being my private nurse and assistant and we haven’t seen her since then. I was starting to get worried about her. I was still in the hospital because I had not completed my physical therapy requirements. My doctor wanted to be sure I could perform all activities of normal daily living safelyWhen the morning nurse came to take her morning vitals, I asked, “What happened to Cheyenne?” The nurse asked, “We are sending one of our coworkers to her place right now. She didn’t call in to let us know she won’t be in. That’s not like her at all.” I suggested, “Let me check on her before anyone goes in.”I watched as the nurse mind linked the coworker to hold off going to Cheyenne’s house, then I tried to get inside Cheyenne’s mind to see what she was seeing at that moment. It was harder than usual to do it, and then I saw nothing in her mind at all. That scared me b
