I am so sorry it has taken so long to post a new chapter. This one is unusually long because I had already had part of the next chapter written and I wanted heather's results and Elizabeth's party covered in this one. I appreciate your patience for me. We had a couple of emergencies with my mother and a couple of serious hospital stays. As always, I hope you enjoyed this chapter and, of course, your comments are always appreciated.
Three months later, Isaac and I were sitting in the doctor’s office waiting to get another ultrasound done. My doctor had been treating mine as a high-risk pregnancy because we didn’t know what was going to happen after all of my scar tissue was removed. We were hoping my uterine walls held up. Doctor Spink was certain that all was okay with it, but my doctor just wanted to keep an eye on it.When his nurse came out to get us, we went straight to our exam room and she smiled, “Your baby bump is already starting to get big. Are you planning to find out what you are having?” I chuckled, “Of course. We’re so excited. I really hope they cooperate.” She laughed, “Oh, trust me, we’ve met our fair share of uncooperative babies. We have our ways of getting the information we need.”She took my vitals and Isaac asked, “Can we please get a female doctor? It drives my wolf nuts to see a male doctor examining my mate.” She chuckled, “That’s a sign of a good mate. I can ask Amy, our nurse practiti
“Thank you, Miss Franklin. I’ll tell mom you need to talk to her,” I assured as I walked out of the general store.Miss Franklin is the little grey-haired lady who owned the store. It was more than just a small grocery store to this little town. It was also the gas station, video rental, and a deli-style sandwich shop.Besides the bait shop and canoe rental next to the river two miles away, it was the only business in our town.Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas is a tiny town in neutral territory. It’s a town that has a great sense of community and it’s very close-knit.My parents always told me they didn’t like being in their old pack because the alpha didn’t pay the omegas for their work and treated them like dirt. They always told me that if I ever wanted to join a pack, make sure to ask if the omegas are paid. That was a good way to tell if it was a good pack.My parents were loving and doted on me, as the only child, but they never spoiled me.As unaffiliated wolves, they couldn’t afford
I kept hearing a beeping sound. When I opened my eyes, the lights were way too bright so I put my hand over my eyes.I heard a sweet woman’s voice, “Hey, sweetheart, you’re awake! Let me dim the lights a little for you.”The voice sounded so familiar, but I couldn’t place it.I slowly opened my eyes and found an older couple sitting on either side of the bed.I remembered seeing both of these people at my last birthday party, “Grandma?” I asked then turned to the man, “Grandpa?”They both nodded.Grandma asked, “How are you feeling, sweetheart?”“Thirsty. The rogues killed mommy and daddy. Didn’t they?” I croaked. I knew they were dead, I just needed to hear it from someone else.As soon as I saw the worried look on each of their faces, I knew they were dead.My grandmother poured a cup of water for me and put a straw in it while my grandfather kissed my forehead.Their hands were warm and comforting. As I was drinking, I was informed by grandpa that they had made arrangements for me
Life after losing my parents was hard, but I quickly learned to move on. Having my grandparents and Isaac by my side helped me to move on more than I ever imagined possible. When I started Junior High School, five young ladies barged into my personal space and never walked out. My best friends, Wendy, Paula, Mandy, Chrystal, and Kari ran with me every morning, no matter the weather. With time, we started running five miles every school day and ten miles one day a week. I came to love that burn in my muscles after a run. It became one of my favorite ways to get rid of the images that plagued my memories and dreams of my parents. It was a constant fight to keep them beaten to the back of my mind. That caused a lot of anger issues that used to happen occasionally. Alpha Kenny and Isaac started running with us on weekends when they had time. Isaac and I were still considering each other friends, but my feelings for him had never changed. I had sensed the same with him. I could feel
Zariah’s POV~Three Years Later~“This is a really boring job.” Isaac whined. He and I have been practicing gymnastics with his cousin, Abby, for the last couple hours. Abby and I had been using him as our spotter.I laughed as I stood at the end of a very long mat, “You think it’s boring? Okay, spot me. You might want to start up here and keep up with me.”I waited for him to stand slightly ahead of me, and to the side. I started with three back handsprings and ended with a very high triple flip on the way to the mat, landing on my feet.Isaac kept yelling, “Wait up!” When I went airborne with my triple flips, he yelled, “How am I supposed to spot that?”As I landed, I laughed, “Just don’t let me fall. That’s all. Like this. Be ready. I am going to mess up on purpose and you need to catch me.” He was very serious as he nodded, “Okay.” I extended my arms over my head and started to go into a back flip, but I didn’t complete it.I jumped high and basically laid flat. He caught me with
I woke with a start and looked around in the dark.I could hear glass breaking from the first floor and voices on the second floor. My first thought was, “Again?”I called Alpha Kenny and whispered, “I need you to come over… quickly. It sounds like there are more than three people this time. They are on both floors.”Alpha Kenny answered, “We’ll be there in a minute. Don’t do anything until we get there.” I quietly got out of bed and crawled to the master bathroom, whispering “I’m in the master bathroom. I’ll be listening for you.”As I sat there on my bathroom floor, I kept hearing footsteps upstairs. Then, there was one thing that stood out to me: I didn’t smell the usual smell of weeks-old garbage that rogues normally carried on them.I couldn’t hear what they were saying, but it did sound like there was a clear leader among them.As minutes passed, I heard one ask if they opened every door… including closets.I could tell there was at least one in my bedroom because I heard him
Selene continued, “You and your mate will be able to combine your powers to help your warriors defeat the witches.“There are also a couple other packs who want to take Onyx and you for their own benefit.“Depending on the alpha’s choices and your pack’s success in preventing his warriors from going back, you will only have up to one year to prepare for that war.“It’s hard to tell with one of them. He’s not the brightest of my children and he is very unpredictable. I would give him a second chance mate, but he is a very cruel man too. He has been slowly turning feral since his mate was killed ten years ago. I’m afraid I’m going to have to take his wolf from him soon. His wolf does not deserve this.“The other alpha is just a very greedy man and always has been. He rejected his mate in order to take a chosen mate for more power.“He is also very cruel to the omegas in the pack. You may have less time to prepare for him. Alpha Kenny is doing the right thing by keeping warriors around y
Isaac POVI have been watching over Zariah since she came to our pack. She was so badly injured; I was scared to death that she would die. I have always been drawn to her. I wanted nothing more than to stay next to her in the hospital until she was better. When she got out of the hospital, I spent all day, every day, at her side, taking care of her. I would help her to any room she wanted to go to and her grandma would giggle at the sight of us.I think I was just looking for a reason to hold her hand. I’m sure her grandma knew we were mates even when we were that little.I spent all of my time in school keeping all the guys away from her. I just didn’t even want them looking at her. My parents got called to school a few times because I knocked another boy out. I got in trouble for hitting them. Not for watching over Zariah. In junior high, I backed off from hanging around her because there was a group of guys who, I heard through the grapevine, were trying to find a way to get in her

Six days later, I was in my office when Heather walked in and sat in one of the chairs across from me. I sat back in my chair and asked, “What’s up?” She smiled, “I just got back from getting my schedule and materials for school. I don’t need to take any of the Math classes, or the literature classes. I have to take at least one civics class and a bunch of electives to get my Associate of Science degree. I will be able to take the majority of my classes online too.”I raised my eyebrows, “That’s great, sweetie. What does your schedule look like?” She handed a piece of paper to me and I saw that she is doubling up on her credit hours. I asked, “Sweetheart, are you sure you want to take so many hours in classes?” She nodded, “I’m sure. These classes seem to be fairly easy. I think Chemistry and Biology might be a bit difficult, but not impossible.”I sighed, “Okay. I might be able to help some, but Aadi might be even more help. What is your civics class?” She answered, “I think it will b
Thursday evening, we all sat down for dinner, then we all noticed that Heather’s seat was empty. I asked, “Ben, have you heard from Heather yet?” Ben answered, “She called me at lunchtime. She said she may be late. She still had four more tests to take.”I nodded in understanding, “I bet she’s overthinking some questions. My daughter is most definitely a genius, but she does doubt herself a lot. Ben, you will have to keep that in mind and reassure her of her intelligence regularly.” Ben laughed softly, “She’s most definitely perfect for me. I tell her how smart she is all the time. She’s also a badass on the training grounds.”Isaac laughed, “Yes, she is. Just like her mother. Before Zariah was paralyzed, she could kick some serious ass. She put me on my ass more than once. She may not be able to use her legs anymore, but she can still pack a punch too.” I smiled, “The Goddess always puts us with our perfect partner.”Ben smiled, “I couldn’t agree more.” Blaine sighed, “Mom, Elizabeth
That evening, Isaac and I went home and found Aadi cooking dinner. I asked, “How are things with you? You look a tad bothered.” Aadi answered, “Not really bothered. Not mad either.” I laughed, “Okay. So, what’s the problem?”She answered, “Franco’s brother got here at around eleven this morning. As soon as they got out of the truck, Ben started sniffing the air and he hasn’t been able to stop. Franco has been so excited about it that he forgot to run to the store for me. I’m craving cookies and cream ice cream. I really wanted that for dessert.”I chuckled, “How about calling him now and asking him to stop?” She sighed, “I understand why he’s excited. His brother has scented his mate. He’s taking him all around the pack to see if he can find her. I’m just having a hormonal moment.” I looked back at Isaac and He chuckled, “On it.” He walked out the door and walked right back in.I furrowed my brows at him and he smiled, “I think I know who Ben’s mate is.” He ran upstairs and walked back
I had just finished updating the books for the pack’s business when my phone rang. The school counselor sounded quite irritated when he informed me that Heather had finished the tests. I thanked him and told him we would be there shortly.I rushed to my mate’s office and smiled, “She finished. Let’s go.” Isaac beamed, “Okay.” He jumped up and we left. He started to head toward the truck and I shook my head, “It’s going to take longer to get me in there than it would to just walk.” Isaac chuckled, “Okay, then. I’ll push your chair then.” I nodded, “Okay.”We made it to the school in a couple minutes because Isaac decided to run most of the way. We went to the principal’s office and we found him trying to seduce his secretary by kissing her neck. Isaac cleared his throat and we watched him look at us while continuing his seduction. When he realized it was us, he stood straight up, cleared his throat and stuttered, “A-Alpha, L-Lu-Luna, how may I help you?” I just shook my head in disappoi
The next morning at breakfast, Franco asked, “Alpha, is it okay if one of my little brothers comes down for a visit?” Isaac nodded, “Of course. How old is he?” Franco smiled, “He wants to look for his mate. He is sixteen.” I smiled, “Make sure to take him around the whole pack. Is he planning to spend a couple days?”Franco nodded, “He was planning to stay at least a couple of days. If he finds his mate in your pack, he is planning on asking permission to build a house.” Isaac agreed, “Of course he can. I will always welcome new pack members.”I reminded my mate, “I will be going to the school with Heather this morning to give permission for her to take the test to graduate early.” Isaac asked, “Isn’t she a bit young for that? She’s not even in high school yet.” I laughed, “She will be fine. She just isn’t being challenged enough right now. She wants to start college.”Isaac raised his brows at Heather, “Are you still wanting to be a doctor?” Heather nodded, “I am. I want to have my li
When we got to the kitchen table, everyone was there and Aadi looked like she was ready to burst. I chuckled, “Aadi, would you like to tell us your news first?” She laughed, “You got a visit too, didn’t you?” I nodded, “I did. But I will let you tell everyone what she told you first.”She grinned, “I know the path for both sets of twins.” Franco asked, “You do?” She nodded as she continued to tell everyone at the table everything the Goddess told me. She looked at me and asked, “Do you have anything to add?” I shook my head, “Nope. That covers everything she told me. I’m excited for them and they haven’t even been born yet.”Blaine asked, “Did she say when they would shift for the first time?” I answered, “I know your siblings will shift as toddlers. She didn’t give a specific age.” Aadi answered, “She didn’t tell me anything about when ours will shift.” I added, “But I would assume that if they were meant to go through everything together, then they would all shift together.”Heather
The meeting ended up lasting until late into the night as every unmated she-wolf wanted to see if Ben was their mate and we answered unending questions about the babies. I finally turned to Isaac and asked, “I wonder how many ways we can say that we don’t know what their path is?”Isaac laughed, “I don’t know, but I’m starting to wish we had not said anything about them.” I shrugged, “They’re just curious. All of our other kids had a purpose, so they are wondering about what will happen with these babies.” Isaac agreed, “I can understand that, but we already told them before the meeting ended that we didn’t know yet.”When we finally got home, it was late and even my night owl, Blaine, was ready to fall into bed when we got home. We said goodnight to the kids and went straight to our room. As soon as we were ready for bed, Isaac got under the covers and held his arm out to me.When I got under the covers, I immediately scooted over and tucked myself in with my head on my love’s chest.
When we went home for dinner that evening, Heather and Blaine were clueless. However, Aadi was nearly bouncing off the walls in excitement, “Was I right?” I laughed, “You were.” Aadi giggled and hugged me, “I knew it! I’m so happy!” Isaac laughed, “There is some additional news. When we all sit at the table, we’ll tell all of you.”An hour later, we all sat at the table for dinner. Isaac sat his phone in the middle of the table, “I have Lena on the phone so she can hear the news too.” I smiled, “That’s an amazing idea.”I then turned toward the phone, “Hey baby girl! How are my grandbabies?” She giggled as she answered, “Growing like weeds! They’re starting to crawl already.” I smiled, “That sounds like so much fun.” She laughed, “It is. It’s exhausting too.”As soon as Heather and Blaine sat at the table, I started, “Well, I went to my regular doctor today. I am officially one week pregnant.” There were cheers around the table and on the other end of the phone. Isaac added, “There is
