"What?! Are you insane?!" Cleina, my best friend, exaggerated.
"Renesmee, you're talking about marriage here. Marriage! Your life will be pretty miserable because of that stupid choice of yours! God! Why are you so reckless?!"
"I just don't want to disappoint my parents, Cleina," I sighed.
"You don't always have to think of how your parents would react to something, Renesmee!" Nakakahiya.
"Renesmee, marriage is a big thing! It's not just something you can enter and get yourself out whenever you feel like! And let me remind you, hindi pwede ang divorce rito sa Pilipinas!"
"Annulment," I shrugged. Cleina gaped at me. She looked at me like I was the most stupid person in the world.
"My god, nababaliw ka na," she shook her head. "I couldn't believe that you just shrugged your shoulder on this kind of matter."
"Yeah, maybe I am going crazy."
She stared at me, "God, you're so reckless. You know, sometimes, I just really want to hit your head with something. My god, I've never met someone so prone to such big idiocy my whole life!"
Yeah, I guess I'm an idiot.
"Please don't tell anyone about this yet, Clein," I said. I'm not even sure myself what I'm getting myself into. My impulsiveness sure brings me to tight situations most of the time.
She looked at me, "Of course I won't. This is not my story to tell. I just hope that this marriage will not hurt you, Renesmee. This is just plain stupid," she massaged her temple as she shook her head.
"Thank you for your time, Clein," I smiled.
"No biggie," she smiled. "Just call me when you need anything, okay? Kapag sinaktan ka ng mapapangasawa mo, sabihin mo lang at sasabunutan ko 'yan," she laughed.
"He wouldn't. It will be, after all, a loveless marriage, and it will always remain that way," I said. I was sure of that. Whatever that'll happen after this marriage, I'm sure that it wouldn't hurt me. No one could. Not this marriage, nor the one who I will marry. I just needed to refrain myself from investing any kind of affection towards him and I'm all good.
"Do I look okay?" I asked one of our maids. My parents informed me that the Levine's invited us for dinner. I was shocked, of course. Imagine going home from a tiresome day and receive a sudden invitation to eat with them.
The maid smiled at me, "Opo naman, ma'am. Bagay na bagay po sa inyo ang ayos niyo," she said.
"Thank you," I smiled.
"Walang anuman ho, ma'am. Babalik na po ako sa ginagawa ko," paalam niya kaya tinanguan ko na lang siya. I faced the full-length mirror and breathed out. This is it. I'm going to meet him. My future husband.
My parents called and said that we had to go.
The drive to the Levine's mansion wasn't that long. It probably took us 10 to 15 minutes just to arrive there. My mouth almost parted in awe when I saw the mansion in full view. It was damn big, alright. Halatang mayaman talaga ang may ari.
The mansion was built with the combination of modern black granite walls and board formed walls that added more accent to the mansion. It was also made with glass kaya kitang-kita ang nasa loob. There was a pool just beside the house and I could already tell how luxurious their life were with the facade of their mansion.
Our house was also as luxurious as theirs but there's just something that makes their place a little bit more... intimidating?
"Hi! Pasok kayo," sinalubong kami ng isang ginang na kaedad lang siguro ni Mommy. A few grey hairs were already visible but it didn't lessen the elegance of the woman who was smiling in front of me.
"Pasensiya na at late kami," Mom apologized.
Nakita ko naman ang pagngiti ng babae kasabay ng pag-iling nito.
"Oh, no, it's okay. We just finished setting the table anyway," sabi nito.
"Reinold!" They did a man hug.
"Steven!" The man greeted my father.
"Ah, oo. That's my daughter. Grew up so fine."
"It's nice to see you again, Renesmee!" He hugged me so I greeted him with a smile and hugged him back. "Ang laki mo na! The last time I saw you, you were just a toddler! I can still remember how Brooke played with you when he was little!"
They all laughed. I had the urge to crease my forehead because of confusion but I stopped myself and plastered a smile. They were actually close.
I was freaking nervous! I can feel my palm being sweaty.
His mom smiled at me, "So, Renesmee, how old are you?"
I breathed deeply, "I'm 25 years old, ma'am," I replied.
"Oh, so Brooke is just two years older than you," she smiled. She seems nice so my nervousness lessen up a bit. "What degree did you take, Renesmee?"
"Uhm, I took fashion designing but I manage the business as of the moment," I answered. I wanted to be a fashion designer since I was a kid. I have to manage the business for the meantime. Good thing Rosie was there to manage the boutique.
"Oh, other than fashion designing, what else can you do? Can you cook?" She asked. Somehow, this talk felt like an interview.
I was about to answer but my dad already did it for me, "Of course, she can! She cooks delicious food and pastries. Sometimes, I couldn't stop myself from eating and she always scolds me about it because she doesn't want me to go back to the hospital." They all chuckled in unison.
I smiled before giving dad a subtle glare but he didn't seem to care.
I turned to mom when she held my hand from under the table, smiling at me. I smiled back at her. We continued the dinner talking about things and stuff. The whole dining room was filled with laughter. I enjoyed the dinner, though my future husband was missing in action the whole time.
"Sorry, I'm late," our heads turned to the dining room's door when we heard a voice. There, stood a man with the most amazing features I've ever seen. He has this beguiling charcoal eyes, aristocrat nose, and beautiful lips. He has a stubborn jaw and a very manly body built that every woman would adore.
I stiffened when our gaze met. He just stared at me for a long minute before he looked away.
"I want you to meet my son, Brooke Levine. Son, I want you to meet the Hades family," his father looked at me, "And that, is your future wife, Renesmee Hades," our gaze met for the second time. My heart was beating faster because of the way he stared at me.
"Can we talk?" He asked and my heart beated faster, I was almost panting. He looked intimidating for some reason.
"O-okay," I stood up from my seat before I followed him with a heart beating erratically. He walked to their house's garden and I just followed him from behind. His back looked impossibly beautiful from where I was. It looked so broad and manly that I cannot stop admiring his very manly built.
I cleared my throat before walking closer to him, he looked back but he turned his back again.
"What do you want to talk about?" I asked.
"I just want to make your facts straight," he faced me so I did the same. His eyes looked so serious as he looked down at me. "I don't want to marry you, woman. And I'm just doing this for my sister. I hope this won't be a problem in the future," he said, intently staring at me.
I breathed out, "Same here. I'm just doing this for my dad."
"Why would you agree on a loveless marriage anyway? Is it because you're too desperate to get yourself a man?"
Aba't...
It hasn't even been ten minutes since we first met each other but I could already tell that he has the attitude.
I breathed out to calm myself down, "Look, whatever my reason is, it's none of your business, mister," I rolled my eyes before walking away.
Naiinis ako. Argh
"He's a jerk," Cleina said while nodding. We were out on a lunch together nang maikwento ko sa kanya ang nangyari no'ng dinner kasama ang mga Levine. "I told you. Agreeing to this marriage is plain stupid. See? Hindi pa kayo kinakasal niyan, ah?"
Napabuntong-hininga na lang ako. She's right. But I just couldn't take back what I said. I already agreed to the marriage. And the only way out of this arrangement is Brooke, turning his back on our marriage.
"Wala na 'kong magagawa, Cleina," I sighed.
"You shouldn't have agreed on this in the first place," she said. Napailing na lang ako. Wala na akong magagawa. Nakaayos na ang lahat. It's too late to take my words back.
We just got out of a boutique when my gaze met a set of familiar charcoal eyes. He is wearing a maroon dress shirt paired with jeans. His hair was also fixed with a little touch of messiness.
And he's with a girl.
"Oh? Is that Mystique and Brooke?" Cleina said so I turned to her.
"You know them?" I asked. I was actually talking about Brooke. I didn't know that Cleina knows him.
"Yes," she answered. "Mystique is one of my closest friends, too, while Brooke is her best friend and that's the reason why I met him. You? Do you know them?" She asked me back and I shook my head.
"No," I looked at the both of them. They were laughing about something, "Not really.."
"Mystique!" My eyes subtly widened when Cleina called the both of them. Oh, god, this isn't really a good time for that.
The woman smiled before waving and walking to our direction.
"Hey! Anong ginagawa niyo dito?" The woman asked.
"You don't own the mall, you know," Brooke sarcastically said, rolling his eyes.
"And I'm not talking to you, youknow, " she smiled before glaring at Brooke who just rolled his eyes. They seem close. Like, really close.
"By the way, this is Renesmee, my friend," Cleina introduced me.
The woman smiled, "Hi, I'm Mystique, nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you, too," I showed her a smile.
I saw how Mystique nudged Brooke so the guy offered his hand. "I'm Brooke, nice to meet you, Renesmee," he said, intently staring at me.
"Likewise," sabi ko lang habang tinatanggap ang kamay niya. Cleina and Mystique talked about something while the two of us were silent, avoiding each other's gazes.
I tried to look at him and he suddenly turned his sight to me before raising his brow when he caught me looking at him. I shook my head before looking away.
While Cleina and I are roaming around, I couldn't help but to ask, is that why he doesn't want to marry me? Because he got himself a girl?
Huh.
"Ba't ang tahimik mo naman ata?" Cleina suddenly asked and I shook my head."Mag-bestfriend lang ba talaga silang dalawa?" Tanong ko.Kumunot naman ang noo niya, "Oo, bakit?"She looked suspicious of something so I answered quickly, "Ang close lang nila. Akala ko nga kanina may something sa kanila."She smiled, "Ganun lang talaga sila."Hindi na kami nagtagal at nagpaalaman na lang din. She said she had to do something so we decided to go home."By the way, Renesmee, baby," mom called me, "We've already decided on the date of your wedding. It'll be a month from now. I think you and your fiancé have to talk about the details of your wedding, sweetie."At the mention of our wedding, a thing crossed my mind, "Mom, can we do the wedding outside the country?" I asked. I was hoping that she'd agree to it. Napaisip kasi ako sa sinabi ni Cleina. This is a loveless marriage and it's already given that my life will be
"You're beautiful," mom said and I just smiled. Today will be our wedding and the makeup artist is fixing my makeup. She used shades of brown for my makeup. Mom asked."I'll fix her hair," the makeup artist answered. I was just sitting in front of her. She decided to do a messy bun for my hair. She also added a few accessories on the bun."You can wear your gown now," she said after she finished fixing my hair. I smiled at her before standing up to wear my gown. I didn't invite any of my friends. This isn't just the kind of wedding they'll be glad to attend to. I'll invite them once I'll marry a man who'll love me until his last breath. I can see it. In the near future, Brooke will get a divorce.I wore my gown. It was beautiful but I just couldn't feel it. Maybe this is how it feels to marry someone you don't love.
"We want a grandchild as soon as possible, Brooke," his mother said. This is awkward. Really awkward. Are they expecting me to have kids with a... stranger? I barely even know him! Our parents said before driving away. We were left alone. We were in one of their rest house to celebrate our 'honeymoon'.We were silent when he walked to the sofa and laid down, "Happy honeymoon... Yeah, right," he scoffed.I rolled my eyes before walking to the kitchen to check the fridge. I saw a can of soda so I took it before drinking it. The kitchen was complete with cooking utensils and appliances so I decided to bake chocolate chip cookies. I was planning to have midnight snacks later.I tied my hair to a bun before getting the materia
"Kasal ka na?!" Cleina freaked out. "And you didn't invite me! That's unfair!" She sat back on her seat."Sorry," I smiled apologetically. "I just thought that it wasn't the kind of wedding that you'd want to attend to," I said."Are you kidding me?" She asked unbelievingly, "Maybe it was, but you're my friend! And I don't want to miss your wedding on top of all things!""Sorry," I said. She sighed, "So? How's your married life?" She asked. My married life? It was fine, I guess. I mean, wala namang masyadong ganap. Minsan nga hindi kami nagpapansinan. We were both busy with work. He was managing their company while I was busy helping my parents with some things. Halos wala namang bago."Married life is okay," I just said. I snorted when I smelled something horrible. "What is that god-awful smell?" I asked covering my nose.
"What?"That was the first word that came out from his mouth after what I said.My heart was beating so fast. I was so nervous... scared, even.I know that he wouldn't accept the child. Why would somebody want to accept a child that was made out of libido?"I said, I'm... pregnant," my tears are threatening to escape my eyes."Hold on," he said before he stood up and walked to the bathroom.A tear fell from my eye. I knew it. He wouldn't accept the child.Guess I have to raise my kid alone, then.Oh, god.Looking back, I should've taken a contraceptive pill. I should've known better. He returned, wearing an emotionless face.
"Ano?! Sinong buntis?!" Dad exaggerated.Brooke looked at me confusingly."You didn't tell them?" He whispered."I was just about to tell them, dumbass," I whispered back."Wag kayong magbulungan diyan, sinong buntis?" Dad interfered. We were silent, not knowing if we should answer or not."Ano? Sagot!"Sasagot na sana ako nang maunahan ako ni Brooke."Ako. Ako ho 'yung buntis," he said. I blinked two times before stopping myself from laughing. Seriously?"Ano?! Ikaw ang buntis?!" Dad shouted, "Aba, anak, hiwalayan mo 'yan! Hiwalayan mo 'yan! Di ko alam na ang pinakasalan pala ng anak kong babae ay isa ring binabae!""The hell?" Brooke whispered to himself. I laughed because of him. Such an idiot. That was priceless."Hiwalayan mo 'yan, Renesmee! Hiwalayan m
5 years later..."Mommy!!" I smiled when I heard my princess' voice from downstairs.I went down and hugged her before hugging Kayden, "How are my babies? Did the check up go well?" I asked."Yes, mommy. The dentist said our teeth are healthy," she answered."Really?" I smiled."Yes, mommy. And Kayden didn't cry," she giggled while Kayden glared at her while pouting."Lux!! I told you not to tell mommy!" He said. I laughed because of him. Sa kambal, si Kayden ang makulit, which is normal dahil lalake siya, and he's afraid of dentists. Palagi siyang umiiyak tuwing pumupunta sa kami sa dental clinic every 6 months. Hindi nga lang ako nakasama ngayon dahil may ginagawa akong gown para sa kasal ni Cleina kaya si Brooke ang sumama sa kanila."Very good, Kayden. I told you, dentists aren't scary," I said."They are, mommy. They
When I woke up, I felt lighter. I was feeling better than yesterday. Having Renesmee was a good thing.I admit, I hated it when my father told me that I'm going to marry her. She was on my bad side in the beginning. But now, looking back, having her as my wife made my life easier. It was more convenient.Because of her, I have someone to cook for me. Not that I was using her but she cooks better than any other restaurants chefs does. Before I married her, I would always have my meal outside my penthouse. I never learned how to cook.My life was okay until she came. I thought that she would be another burden for me to carry but it was the other way around. It was me who was the burden. She stayed up all night to take care of me. I knew she was tired but she took care of me like a typical wife would do. I wasn't even expecting her to do that. She's nice. She's pretty, gorgeous, even. She's g
HIS POV"Sorry, sorry---" her gaze went up to me and she halted. We were looking into each other's eyes when suddenly, she looked away. And I saw how pain glimmer in the depths of her eyes. It has been two weeks since I last saw her. It was in the wedding. I wanted so bad to go to her but I asked myself, why would I? It's not like she's still my wife. And that thought still isn't enough for me to not think about going to her but I held myself tighter."You can go inside first," I said, staring at her.She didn't say anything and just entered the café. It was really unhealthy. And what, beer? Early in the afternoon? Seriously?"That's unhealthy," I said."I'll mind my own business if I were you," she said.Nagsungit pa nga.I didn't know that she can be this cold! And whether I admit it or not, I was bothered by it!Erina was already there when I arrived so I just had to sit and eat.I kept on glancing on their table and when
"Happy birthday, daddy!" I greeted my father. It was his birthday so we went to one of Brooke's family's resort to celebrate. I heard that they were best of friends since then. 'Yon din siguro ang rason kung bakit naisipan nilang ipagkasundo kaming mga anak nila.Anak!" My dad hugged me and the kids. Sabay kaming pumunta dito nina Brooke. We decided to take one car and he drove for us. Though hindi ko pa rin siya kinakausap. Ayoko pa.These kinds of things only exist in movies — that's what I thought. I mean, arranged marriages and all that are too old-fashioned. Hindi dapat pinipili ng mga magulang kung sino dapat ang makakasama ng mga anak nila sa buong buhay nila. At the end of the day, they wouldn't be the one who'll spend it.But at the same time as I believed that, I couldn't help but to ponder upon the things that could've
"Ex-suitor?!" Dri hissed. "Wow, so you guys had a lot of history, huh?"My lips were still parted so Kurt laughed at me."Yeah, we have a lot of history," he smirked, "I can even remember her being the biggest dork I have ever met," he teased.I raised a brow, "Excuse me?! I wasn't a dork! You were the dork one! Come on, don't you remember the time when we stayed outside your sister's condo for almost two hours because you said you didn't have a key when in fact it was in your pocket the whole time?!" I said and he pursed his lips."Well?" He raised a brow, "Do you remember when we were playing tag before and you were it? You ran to me and then you tripped, and you even pulled my pants with you!" Sumbat niya kaya napaubo ako. Dri laughed at that, Erina was smiling at the story while Brooke was only staring at the both of us, silently watching the two of us argue. His gaze was dark and his jaw was tightly clenched. "Like what the hell, that was the most embarrassing thing that ever hap
"Girlfriend?" His tita murmured, confused. "Am I the only one who doesn't know what's happening? Can someone explain to me what's going on?" I stayed silent. "We're divorced," Brooke answered, glancing at me. It felt like a deja vu, but now, he's not here alone, he was with another woman. They were curious so I decided to stand up. "Excuse me," I went to them, "Why don't you go to bed, kids? You still have school tomorrow," I asked. I can tell that they don't want to go to bed but they understand the situation. They were so quick to get it. "Mommy, what's a divorce?" They asked. "Some adult stuff that you wouldn't understand," I smiled.
["Renesmee!"] I distanced my phone from my ear as soon as I answered Avery's call."Avery, ba't ka napatawag?" I asked.["Nesmee, birthday ko na bukas! Punta ka sa bahay, ah? Hawak ko pamilya mo,"] she threatened. Oh, right. Her birthday is tomorrow."Birthday mo na pala bukas?" I teased. I personally designed her a dress and sued it myself.["Such a bad friend! Kaibigan mo 'ko tapos kinakalimutan mo lang birthday ko, ah!"]Nagbangayan pa kami sandali after she invited me. Sabi niya hindi raw makakapunta na raw
"You will never be my choice," I said and pain crossed her face. A tear fell from her eye which stopped me.Why would she cry?"I will never be your choice..." She trailed, looking down. Another tear fell from her eye before she met my gaze with cold eyes. It was emotionless and something in me made my chest clench at the sight of it. I felt like I don't want her to look at me that way. I want her to look at me like before... with those beautiful eyes glistening with something that really captivates me. But now... She was looking at me with those cold eyes. "Guess nothing was enough for you," she looked away."Renesmee-""Where is it?" She cut me off."What?" I
"Hi," I smiled."Si Brooke? Kasama mo?" She asked."Uh, mauna na 'ko," Drake said. "Sumunod kayo kaagad, ah?" He reminded."Of course," Mystique smiled. "Long time no see. Kumusta na ang mga inaanak ko?" She asked."They're okay," sagot ko.
I shifted uncomfortably on my seat. She said she wants to seat by the wall. He was just seating behind me! Tsk."Ate Nesmee, okay ka lang?" Nag-aalalang tanong ni Gia. She sipped on her drink while waiting for my answer."I'm okay," I replied."Nakauwi na pala si Ate Avery?" She asked."Ah, yes. May nirereto na naman nga sa'kin," hindi ko na napigilan ang bibig ko."Ha?" Tumaas ang kilay niya, nagtataka, "Hindi ba may asawa ka na? Wait, what? Sino ang nirereto niya?" She asked. Gia was young. She was about... 4 years younger than
"Magkakilala kayo?" Brooke asked and Avery raised her brow at him. "Of course, kuya," she flipped her hair. "Long time no see, Nesmee! Marami akong ikukwento sa 'yo! Ang tagal na nating hindi nagkita! Ilang taon na ba? 6 or 7 years? In fairness, going strong kayo ni kuya, ah?" Hindi updated 'to. "Ano? Shopping tayo? Bar?" she asked, clueless about the tension inside the room. "Stop pestering my wife, Avery," Brooke pointed at me when Tito Reinold cleared his throat. "Correction, son, ex. Ex-wife," he smirked. Natigilan si Brooke bago nag-iwas ng tingin. "Right. She was my wife," he said as he looked away. "Wait, what?" Avery raised her brow at us, "Bakit may 'was' at 'ex' na nalalaman?" She asked. Tita Julie sighed, "We were just talking about the divorce they just filed when I called you, Avery. They're divorcing their marriage," sabi ni tita. "Ano?!" She stood up from
