He touched her in a way that burned her. His roughness caressed her very soul. His crimson eyes burned into her, his powerful gaze making her legs weak and her sex soaked her panties. The scent of fresh rain was stirring her hormones like crazy. She had been man handled before, but his grip loosened on her wrist, and no longer held her captive. This was the same man that scared her earlier, towering over her like he was going to eat her. His hand turned her wrist over, her sleeve rode up a bit and exposed the scars on her wrists. She tried to pull away, but his grip tightened once more.
"Let me go." She pleaded as she grabbed his arm to pull him off. What good was her strength against the Werewolf King? Her flight response kicked in, but she couldn't run away.
"What are you?" He growled down at her. Her legs trembled, this time from fear. She tried to pull away, but he only tightened his hold on her. She felt her chest squeeze as she panicked.
"Stop." she pleaded to him. Tears threatened to expose themselves. Flashbacks to her ex trapping her with a devilish grin on his face came to her mind. She used her other hand to hit his chest until he grabbed that one. The shocks startled her, but it wasn't enough to derail her from trying to flee. He lowered his head closer to her, his body radiated a heat that made her lean into it.
No, I can't go through with this again.
She shifted the gear from Flight to fight, bringing her knee up and ramming it between his legs. He grunted, releasing her as he dropped to a knee.
He may be the Werewolf King, but he was still a man.
She didn't hesitate. What came naturally was what she did. She ran. Through the garden, into the house until she was inside her room and locked the door. For extra measure, she positioned a chair beneath the handle. She wasn't sure it would truly stop him, but she needed to try something.
"What the Hell was that?" She asked herself. Lily finally took notice of her racing heartbeat that nearly burst out from her chest. She rested her notebook and pen on the desk and tried to steady herself. Though everything happened so quickly, she couldn't quite grasp what happened between them. An unspoken need heated her body and drenched her inner thighs. She bolted into her bathroom, shredded off her clothes, and turned on the shower as cold as she dared. The droplets rain down on her, pelting her flushed skin. She felt every inch of her on fire and she didn't know how to put it out. That crimson gaze that was once filled with the rage of her being there had shifted to one ready to devour her. Her fingers dipped between her legs and she bit back a moan. She never expected to react this way after the way he grabbed her. She could still feel the imprints of his fingers on her skin. Another flashback came, the silhouette of her ex standing before her with a belt in one hand and the other hand clenched into a fist. Any desire she felt evaporated instantly as she looked on in horror. His image only smirked back at her while the belt lifted high above his head.
"No!" she screamed as she dropped to the floor of the shower, her hands up to deflect the blow. Though one never came. Her eyes carefully opened, the silhouette now gone. The tears she had restrained streamed freely down her cheeks as she wrapped her arms around her legs and sobbed.
Lily had avoided the King since their altercation in the garden. She felt slightly guilty for how she reacted, but he deserved it. He hadn't approached her since then, but she can still smell the fresh rain. It was strongest just outside her door that night, but it had faded away into the morning. She didn't dare risk it though, so she skipped out on meals for a couple of days until she was sure he had left her alone. She had grown accustomed to not eating a few days at a time, anyway.
A few days later, she sat at her desk with her laptop screen open as she scanned the emailed copy of her lease agreement Penelope had sent her. In more detail, it covered her responsibilities for the year she would live with the Werewolf King, Jayce, her son. Aside from the payments for each month of her stay, the rest of the home was hers to explore. Lily thought of it strange that Penelope had a bit more say over his homestead than he did himself, but perhaps things worked differently than she expected. Her phone buzzed softly beside her, the screen lighting up as Penelope's name stood out on the locked screen with the following message below it:
You have an appointment with Dr. Marshall. I'll have a car pick you up in 10 minutes.
Lily nearly forgotten about the planned therapy sessions Penelope had arranged for her. She had been the only person to care about her this much, even in the short time they've known one another. Lily opened the door to the hallway, taking a careful glance around before shutting the door behind herself. It was quiet.
Did Jayce leave for the day?
Before walking down the hallway, she released a breath. She checked her pockets for her phone and wallet. She fixed her long sleeve black shirt and pushed a lock of hair out of her face. As she rounded the stairs, the scent of fresh rain hit her as she met Jayce's icy gaze coming up the staircase. He was shirtless, with sweatpants hanging low, the curve of his pelvis disappearing into the depths of the fabric. Tribal tattoos licked along his ribs, arms, shoulders, and chest. His slightly long black hair was damp and slicked back. He looked so delicious.
"Where are you going?" He asked her, stopping his ascend. Her fingers pulled on the edges of her sleeves nervously. She wanted to avoid his eyes, but she couldn't get herself to look away. She opened her mouth to speak, but the silhouette played in her head again. He stared at her for a moment, frustration settled in his shoulders.
"Fine. Don't answer me." He moved past her and down the opposite hallway. She watched his back as he walked away from her. She had the urge to chase after him, but she didn't dare budge. He was probably still upset with her from the other night. A car honked outside, bringing her back to her reality. Here goes nothing.
Dr. Marshall sat in a rolling chair in front of her desk, her pen tapped the notepad in her lap, but her hazel eyes were on Lily. Since she sat down, she struggled to talk to her. Maybe it was the fact that she was a Wolf and Lily was just a Human.
"We can sit here all day if you need to, Miss Thornstun." She informed her.
Right, Penelope was getting charged for this, after all.
Lily balled up her fists in her lap, her eyes downcast as she took several long breaths, "Where should I begin?" She asked her. Dr. Marshall stopped tapping her pen and leaned forward in her chair.
"Where you are comfortable." She simply told her. Lily took another deeper breath.
"It started about nine months ago when I met Jasper. At first, things were going pretty well. He was sweet. Charming. It seemed like he cared about me." Lily started, her eyes only on her hands. She let the memories take over her as if she was reliving them in that room.
"When did things change?" Dr. Marshall's voice echoed in the memories.
"I didn't notice the changes until he started getting physical with me." Lily bit her bottom lip, "But the mental abuse came first, that I know. He started putting words in my head about my friends and family, how they were plotting against us from being happy." Lily's eyes shifted out of focus. It was as if Jasper was sitting beside her, whispering into her ear even now.
"Then it was the emotional abuse. He tore me down about my looks, my weight, even my clothes." Lily clenched the edges of her sleeves, tears dripping onto them. "I'd go without eating just to lose weight for him. Just wanted him to be happy. I wanted him to love me." Her voice trembled.
"That's enough for now." Dr. Marshall said, but it was as if her voice couldn't reach her.
"But then he hit me." Her hand covered her mouth. She could still feel the impact of his fists punching her until she was barely conscious.
"Lily!" Dr. Marshall raised her voice, the image of Jasper shattering next to her, and she was alone with the doctor again. Dr. Marshall had knelt in front of her, her short brown hair curled and bounced against her shoulders. Her brown eyes filled with concern. That's when she finally noticed how hard she was shaking.
"I'm sorry..." Tears flooded her cheeks as she brought her knees to her chest. She wanted to close up the box again, lock it tight and throw away the key. Dr. Marshall rubbed her legs reassuringly.
"You did nothing wrong to apologize for. You yearn for what everyone wants. To be loved." The doctor sat back a bit and pulled out her phone. "We'll wrap up today." She put her phone to her ear. "Alpha, can you come to the office and pick up Lily?" She asked over the phone. Lily's eyes widened as she stared at the dark-skinned woman.
"No! Please don't have him come here!" She panicked, reaching for the phone, but the Werewolf kept her at bay.
"She needs to be picked up and taken home to rest." The doctor continued the conversation.
"Please." Lily begged, dropping back onto the couch. "I don't want to anger him again." She cried into her hands. The doctor hung up the phone after she said that.
"Did he hurt you?" She asked worriedly, but Lily shook her head.
"No. There was a moment we had... He grabbed me, but I don't think he meant harm by it." Lily said to her, but even her own words didn't convince her. He looked mad and maybe a bit conflicted, but she was so wrapped up with how her body reacted, she couldn't read into his expression. The tears continued to flow for sometime, but the doctor let her. They sat quietly, the ticking of the clock above Dr. Marshall's desk being the only sound.
Getting the call to pick up Lily from therapy was a surprise he wasn't expecting. Neither was listening to her cry and yell on the other side while she argued with Dr. Marshall about contacting him. What bothered him the most was at the end, when she said she didn't want to anger him anymore. To be fair, he was pissed when she kneed him in the groin the other night, but he couldn't deny that he was at fault. He knew what she had been through, yet he crossed the line, anyway. Once he realized that the woman was his Mate, it took everything in him not to break down her bedroom door. He scented her arousal, just for a moment until it quickly disappeared, but it was enough to drive his Wolf insane.
Dinner was quiet between them, but it was better than the hostility he first showed her. Jayce was flying through the food like he also hadn't eaten in the last few days. He had spaghetti sauce plastered around his mouth. He almost looked like a messy toddler.Jayce pushed the plate away, leaning back on his stool. "That was amazing." He voiced openly as he wiped his mouth. Lily rose from her seat, taking his plate and her own, and went to the sink. She cleaned up after the mess they both made. "Don't think I can clean the dishes, either?" He joked again.
Damion sat in the chair across from him, his eyes transfixed on his notes as he went over the weekly report with Jayce. The dark-haired Wolf was rambling on, however the Werewolf King had his mind set on something else. Someone else, to be exact. A few nights ago, during his work, he heard a soft piano playing down the hall from him. When he went to investigate, Lily was playing a gentle melody that resembled close to what he believed was a lullaby. Her eyes shut, but she had the softest smile displayed on her lips. Since she had been staying there, she only showed fear and sadness as her primary emotions. So when he noticed her smile for the first time, his heart nearly leapt out of his chest.
As she watched the grass fall from the sky, her heart felt slightly lighter than the past week she had been here. Opening up about her experience wasn't easy for her, but it felt good to get it off of her chest. Dr. Marshall had the degrees to work with her, but Jayce was an ear she can speak to with no medical background, as far as she knew, anyway. To her surprise, speaking to him about it actually put her at ease, and it made her want to talk to him more."A distraction." She said, but she didn't know what she meant by that. Her writing was always her escape after Jasper dealt his beatings. Even if her body was trapped, she found
The gap between them grew wider as weeks went by. Since her episode, she refrained from any type of communication with him. Every time he thought of her scarred body, his Wolf nearly took over and would wreck the room he was in. He's had construction done three times in the last two weeks because he couldn't control his Wolf. Damion had stopped by several times, but he just dismissed him. He wasn't in the mood to deal with the festival or the council. Even when he shifted to go on his runs, he was breaking trees left and right. Who was he truly angry at, though? Jasper for hurting his Mate for months, or himself for asking a pointless question. He'd give anything to hear her voice. To feel her lips again. To hold her, even if she was just crying. Anything to soothe the beast in him.
"Mates." Penelope said with a gentle smile. Lily raised a brow at her, but the term wasn't lost on her. She sensed Jayce tense up when she said the word, shifting uncomfortably beside her."I'm assuming that is a more serious topic than what I'm thinking of?" She asked, and Penelope shrugged, swirling her wine around."Yes, and no. It's not so much a serious topic, but it's one that Humans can easily overlook. Unlike Humans, Werewolves have a partner that t
Her sweet taste lingered on his tongue when she gazed up at his eyes, the sun shining in hers when she spoke up."I'm his date." She said, licking her lips slowly. The bulge pressed against his slacks and he didn't care who saw it. His Wolf howled to claim her. His hand tightened on her waist, pressing her curved body against his. Her delicious scent reached his nose, and it took every nerve in his body not to pin her to the window and fuck her in front of everyone.
Lily walked along the grassy and damp path. The stars sparkled high above her, a chill brushing along her skin. For a summer evening, it was rather cold. Goosebumps rose over her arms, spreading over her shoulders, back, chest, and legs. She tried to rub them away, to warm herself, but they continued to spread. She breathed out, her breath like white smoke. A sharp pain settled across her chest and as she glanced down, blood trickled down from a thin cut on her naked body. She touched it, hoping it wasn't real, but the warm fluid startled her. Another sharp pain drew her attention down to her wrists, where more blood was oozing out of the cuts. She went to speak, but her voice was gone.
The sun casted its light across the ocean's surface, glistening blindingly in the summer heat. Waves licked the soft sand, smothering fresh foot prints that were left behind. Lily walked along the shore, the water lapping at her ankles, its warmth barely mimicking that of the sun's rays on her already lightly tanned skin. Her blonde hair swayed against her lower back, slightly frizzed from the humidity. Sweat and the ocean spray carried by the gentle breeze speckled her skin with tiny droplets. She gazed out at the ocean, the water going on for miles. She ran her fingers over her bikini top, feeling the slivers of her scars that continued to decorate her skin. Her fingers stopped as they reached her lower belly where a new addition of scars now existed. She smiled to herself as she traced the long scar. Sh
Jayce stood in front of his mirror, his white button up still on done, a vibrant emerald tie sitting around his neck untouched. He tilted his head slightly until Lily's bite came into view. It had been roughly a week or so now that she had bit him, and yet it had not healed completely. In her words and that of his Wolf, their bond was just that strong that her Mark held true. Yet his gut was telling him something else was at play, but he didn't know as to what yet.
The moon shined in through the dark curtains, casting shadows across her black comforter. She knew it was late, but her mind just wouldn't shut down. She wished to blame it on wedding jitters, but the way her chest constricted with the usual panicked feeling, she knew it was worse than that. The idea of Karmina hunting her down specifically, the Supernatural world being much larger than she realized. Jayce knew. They all did, and she was kept out of the loop. He can say it was for her safety, but she thought he would know better by now.
He was leading Lily through the pack house blindfolded, the others following close behind them. After breakfast, everyone had gathered to go over what was left on the to-do list. Luna Isis had taken over as the wedding planner, relieving Lily of the burden. Luna Ella offered to be the photographer, bragging a bit about her photography studio in Louisiana. Alpha Javon offered to be the ordained minister for them, and Archibald practically demanded to cover the music. Lily looked uncertain about the Alpha controlling the music for the reception and Jayce couldn't blame her. He was devious with his antics in Hawaii, tempting his King with beautiful women. Never again will he be swayed other than by his Queen. Nathan and Selene were talking at the back of the group, discussing the layout of the venue set up Lily
Jayce advised the Lunas and Alphas to leave them be for the rest of the evening and they would gather in the morning to get the last minute details wrapped up for the wedding. At first the Lunas were hesitant to leave her alone, especially Selene. Maybe the Luna, soon to be Alpha, felt responsible for what her deceased husband did, but Lily could never blame her. There may have been a point in time where Lukas was a decent man, and he truly cared about Selene, but that man surrendered himself to a being unheard of. Karmina. Was she that enticing of a character? Should she be worried about the other Alphas succumbing to her? What about Jayce?
When did Lily become so grown up?His little girl was speaking to a group of She-Wolves after their dinner wrapped up. He knew that she was a people pleaser, but this atmosphere that surrounds her now is of something much higher than himself. Even Erica was taking part and she could care less about formal parties, that's just how she was. Yet here they both were, still together after all this time.
He watched his love give and receive the respect of a Luna before his very eyes. His heart swelled up with pride as she talked to the women as if they have been life long friends. Since arriving at his home, she had grown so much. Much more than he had, but he wanted to believe he was still a work in progress and that took getting her trust back and forgiving him."There is one other point of discussion we need to cover while we're all here." He announced, his voice silencing the group. Lily looked at him confused, her green eyes sparkling up at him.
Icould have saved him...The nurse that examined Lily gave her a frown like she could read her mind. Lukas was too far gone to even bother saving, but his Wolf? His Wolf still had a clear conscious. He still served his King to the very end. She just hoped he found the peace he needed to move on."Lily." Damion spoke, but she didn't glance his way. H
"Is Lily my sister?" He asked Derek. The Alpha shut his eyes and for a moment Jayce grew scared and horrified. After finding the picture of a woman that was the spitting image of Lily in his jacket pocket, he had a million questions added on from what he already had. He got lucky to arrive in time when Lukas was about to go in for the kill on Lily. Jayce only saw red after that, tearing Lukas apart until he was barely breathing. Then when he turned his attention on Derek who was already shifted back and injured, Lily had crossed his path, defending him."He saved me." She had said before passing out. Now she lay in a hospital b
