The scent hit him like a brick wall. It consumed his entire being to the point he couldn't focus on anything else. He had sent Chelsea off in a rush to find this source that was drove his Wolf mad. How was this far more compelling than Chelsea's? The brunette was one of the hottest She-Wolves in the pack and he had the luxury to bed her. She did whatever he asked of her, bending to his very will. Then this alarming smell shook his very soul. Chelsea no longer existed to him. What did this mean?
He descended the stairs, his nose lifted to the air as the smell grew stronger the closer he got to it. His feet turned and moved down the hall in a fast pace. Stronger. Stronger. He came to an abrupt halt in the doorway of his kitchen when he noticed two women sitting at the island. He recognized one as his mother instantly, but the other...
"I smell lilies." He spoke up, making the woman jump and turn on her stool. His heart stopped. She had beautiful golden blonde hair that cascaded down her back in luscious waves. Her green eyes sparkled in the sunlight that came in from the window. Her aroma overflowed his senses to the degree he thought he would crumble under the pressure. Penelope gave him an amused look for a second before it faded into an innocent smile.
"My my, nice of you to join us." She said to him, but his eyes couldn't be removed from the woman she was with. He listened to his Wolf growl possessively within him, something it had never done before. Not even for Chelsea. His eyes scanned her form. She was wearing skinny jeans and a tight red long sleeve shirt that curved her waist and hips amazingly.
"Who are you?" He demanded from her. The woman flinched from his tone, her eyes darting away from his.
A frightened child, how boring.
"This is Lily. She'll be renting one of the suites here." Penelope rested her chin in her palm, looking over to him with a sweet smile. Renting? He never discussed renting his home to anyone. He ran his fingers through his hair before he buttoned up his shirt. He had left the bed quickly to investigate the smell, and had not dressed completely.
"Escort her back out." He turned his back to them and proceeded back to the stairs, as he pulled out his phone to get ahold of Chelsea again. He needed to finish what they started. The stool squeaked against the tile and her scent filled his nose again.
"Wait!" She called out to him. He stopped mid step. Her voice was angelic to his ears. His Wolf growled again, forcing him to turn around to face her. She clutched her backpack to her chest, her eyes still unable to meet his, but there was a change in her stance. "I already agreed to pay. You won't even notice I'm here." She argued for her side. With her scent, it would be practically impossible for him to ignore her presence now. He raised a brow at her as she squared her shoulders more, finally raising her chin to meet his gaze.
"Do you know where you are, Human?" His voice dipped low into his chest as he approached her. She didn't step away, but with the look in her eyes, she was definitely afraid. "You're in the Werewolf King's den." He growled down at her. Her eyes widened up at him, those beautiful eyes like an endless green field. Those eyes hardened suddenly.
"I'm not impressed." Her eyes roamed his body with disinterest, yet it sent his own body aflame. His hand lashed out and grabbed her backpack, pulling her closer to him. That's when he noticed it. Being up close, he could see scars just poking past the edge of her sleeves and the collar of her shirt. His eyes burned into hers, the hardness she had in her eyes faded away and she was physically trembling now.
Penelope slipped her hand between his and Lily's backpack, forcing them to separate. She then wrapped a secure arm around Lily's shoulders, giving a light squeeze as she held the woman against her side, "Come Lily, I'll show you to your room." She said pleasantly before herding her off. His eyes followed them up the stairs until they disappeared around the corner.
Why did she have so many scars? No matter.
He walked into the lavished living room and took a seat on a sofa close to the front window, his arms laying across the back. It was eerily quiet now. How would he handle having a woman here at all times? He had lovers over constantly, but they never stayed overnight. He wouldn't allow it. By letting them stay, they would think he was letting them in emotionally. He didn't need that kind of headache, but now he had a human staying in his residence due to his mother's shenanigans, and her aroma was overpowering even now. He rubbed the bridge of his nose when he heard heels tap against the tile and Penelope entered the room, taking a seat on the couch opposite of him.
"You scared her." She stated, but he grunted in response.
"Don't invite women to stay here without my permission." He growled at her, but she was unfazed.
"You may be King, but I am your mother." Her golden eyes met his sternly, "There are some things you should know about Lily before you decide to pull what you just did." She informed him. He only shrugged at her.
"I don't care. I want that woman gone." He told her, but she only shook her head.
"I'm afraid I can't send her away." She said.
"Is she just some charity case to you?" He asked her. Her eyes narrowed on him. He knew his mother had a soft spot for humans, but she seemed genuinely invested in this one in particular. She invited her into the pack without authorization through him first, let alone in his own home.
"She wanted a fresh start. So I'm giving her one." She told him, crossing her legs.
"By using my home, my pack?" He growled at her again.
"She was in a toxic relationship. He was practically killing her." She spoke softly as she rested her hands over one another in her lap. His growl receded as he started to listen, "He abused her. Physically. Emotionally. Mentally. Even sexually." Her eyes dropped to the coffee table between them. He tried to tell himself that he didn't care what had happened to her, yet his heart ached anyway. "So, I contacted her when she was looking for a way out. She's a writer, so she'll be invested in her work most of the time, and she'll be going to therapy twice a week to help get through her trauma." Her eyes went back to his, "She's already had it rough as it is, don't make it worse for her." She rose up from her seat, "I'll visit in a week to check on things. Behave." She emphasized that last word before leaving him in silence. He let her words roll around in his head for awhile until his phone buzzed in his pocket. A message from Chelsea came up on the screen.
Are they gone?
The woman is staying here.
For how long?
Undetermined.
I'll come back tonight to finish what we started.
He felt his cock grow stiff slightly, but the arousal quickly vanished. He didn't find Chelsea attractive anymore.
No.
His phone continued to buzz, but then he blocked her number. He had this woman wrapped around his finger, to do whatever he asked. Bending her. Breaking her until she was begging to please him. Yet, the smell of lilies caused him to rise up from the couch and climb the stairs. He stealthed down the hall, followed the trail until he stopped at a door that was slightly ajar. He heard sniffling coming from inside. His Wolf whimpered at the sound.
Why do you care, Beast? She is only human.
But the Wolf continued to whimper, yearning to be by her side. The unfamiliar feeling made him uncomfortable as he backed away from her door and proceeded to his office. He needed a distraction, and if he couldn't have Chelsea, then he'll have to bury himself with his work for now.
That night after he wrapped up the last of the documents needed for the annual festival, he turned gazed out at the garden displayed in his backyard. The sun had already set, the lights giving off a faint glow, casting shadows across the yard when a familiar shadow caught his eye. Lily walked along the path with a notebook in her hands. She had discarded her jeans for shorts that showed off her slender legs. He wanted to kiss her inner thighs, nip her ankles and bury his face between her legs.
He grabbed a stack of papers and threw them across the room. As they drifted to the floor, he bounded out of his room. He needed to know why he wanted her. Why her scent was intoxicating. None of it was making sense to him, but he'll get his answers once and for all.
He stormed out into the courtyard, his nose to the air. Her scent carried his feet deeper into the garden where a large oak tree stood with a swing attached to it. She sat on the swing, the gentle breeze blowing her hair, carrying her scent to dance around him. Her eyes were on her notebook, a pen in hand. She hadn't noticed his arrival yet, but when he went to approach her, his mother's words came flooding back to him.
Abused physically, mentally, emotionally and sexually.
His Wolf growled angrily within him. He didn't know this woman, yet his Wolf was eager to defend her.
She couldn't be it, could she?
Her eyes drifted up from her writing, finally meeting his. His Wolf howled as he moved closer to her. Her eyes widened as she jumped to her feet, clutching her notebook to her chest and went to make a break for it until his hand latched onto her wrist. Sparks flared upon contact, shooting up from his fingers and dispersed in all directions throughout his body. His jeans tightened around his crotch, and his breathing became shallow as his heart quickened.
Mate.
He touched her in a way that burned her. His roughness caressed her very soul. His crimson eyes burned into her, his powerful gaze making her legs weak and her sex soaked her panties. The scent of fresh rain was stirring her hormones like crazy. She had been man handled before, but his grip loosened on her wrist, and no longer held her captive. This was the same man that scared her earlier, towering over her like he was going to eat her. His hand turned her wrist over, her sleeve rode up a bit and exposed the scars on her wrists. She tried to pull away, but his grip tightened once more."Let me go." She pleaded as she grabbed his arm
Getting the call to pick up Lily from therapy was a surprise he wasn't expecting. Neither was listening to her cry and yell on the other side while she argued with Dr. Marshall about contacting him. What bothered him the most was at the end, when she said she didn't want to anger him anymore. To be fair, he was pissed when she kneed him in the groin the other night, but he couldn't deny that he was at fault. He knew what she had been through, yet he crossed the line, anyway. Once he realized that the woman was his Mate, it took everything in him not to break down her bedroom door. He scented her arousal, just for a moment until it quickly disappeared, but it was enough to drive his Wolf insane.
Dinner was quiet between them, but it was better than the hostility he first showed her. Jayce was flying through the food like he also hadn't eaten in the last few days. He had spaghetti sauce plastered around his mouth. He almost looked like a messy toddler.Jayce pushed the plate away, leaning back on his stool. "That was amazing." He voiced openly as he wiped his mouth. Lily rose from her seat, taking his plate and her own, and went to the sink. She cleaned up after the mess they both made. "Don't think I can clean the dishes, either?" He joked again.
Damion sat in the chair across from him, his eyes transfixed on his notes as he went over the weekly report with Jayce. The dark-haired Wolf was rambling on, however the Werewolf King had his mind set on something else. Someone else, to be exact. A few nights ago, during his work, he heard a soft piano playing down the hall from him. When he went to investigate, Lily was playing a gentle melody that resembled close to what he believed was a lullaby. Her eyes shut, but she had the softest smile displayed on her lips. Since she had been staying there, she only showed fear and sadness as her primary emotions. So when he noticed her smile for the first time, his heart nearly leapt out of his chest.
As she watched the grass fall from the sky, her heart felt slightly lighter than the past week she had been here. Opening up about her experience wasn't easy for her, but it felt good to get it off of her chest. Dr. Marshall had the degrees to work with her, but Jayce was an ear she can speak to with no medical background, as far as she knew, anyway. To her surprise, speaking to him about it actually put her at ease, and it made her want to talk to him more."A distraction." She said, but she didn't know what she meant by that. Her writing was always her escape after Jasper dealt his beatings. Even if her body was trapped, she found
The gap between them grew wider as weeks went by. Since her episode, she refrained from any type of communication with him. Every time he thought of her scarred body, his Wolf nearly took over and would wreck the room he was in. He's had construction done three times in the last two weeks because he couldn't control his Wolf. Damion had stopped by several times, but he just dismissed him. He wasn't in the mood to deal with the festival or the council. Even when he shifted to go on his runs, he was breaking trees left and right. Who was he truly angry at, though? Jasper for hurting his Mate for months, or himself for asking a pointless question. He'd give anything to hear her voice. To feel her lips again. To hold her, even if she was just crying. Anything to soothe the beast in him.
"Mates." Penelope said with a gentle smile. Lily raised a brow at her, but the term wasn't lost on her. She sensed Jayce tense up when she said the word, shifting uncomfortably beside her."I'm assuming that is a more serious topic than what I'm thinking of?" She asked, and Penelope shrugged, swirling her wine around."Yes, and no. It's not so much a serious topic, but it's one that Humans can easily overlook. Unlike Humans, Werewolves have a partner that t
Her sweet taste lingered on his tongue when she gazed up at his eyes, the sun shining in hers when she spoke up."I'm his date." She said, licking her lips slowly. The bulge pressed against his slacks and he didn't care who saw it. His Wolf howled to claim her. His hand tightened on her waist, pressing her curved body against his. Her delicious scent reached his nose, and it took every nerve in his body not to pin her to the window and fuck her in front of everyone.
The sun casted its light across the ocean's surface, glistening blindingly in the summer heat. Waves licked the soft sand, smothering fresh foot prints that were left behind. Lily walked along the shore, the water lapping at her ankles, its warmth barely mimicking that of the sun's rays on her already lightly tanned skin. Her blonde hair swayed against her lower back, slightly frizzed from the humidity. Sweat and the ocean spray carried by the gentle breeze speckled her skin with tiny droplets. She gazed out at the ocean, the water going on for miles. She ran her fingers over her bikini top, feeling the slivers of her scars that continued to decorate her skin. Her fingers stopped as they reached her lower belly where a new addition of scars now existed. She smiled to herself as she traced the long scar. Sh
Jayce stood in front of his mirror, his white button up still on done, a vibrant emerald tie sitting around his neck untouched. He tilted his head slightly until Lily's bite came into view. It had been roughly a week or so now that she had bit him, and yet it had not healed completely. In her words and that of his Wolf, their bond was just that strong that her Mark held true. Yet his gut was telling him something else was at play, but he didn't know as to what yet.
The moon shined in through the dark curtains, casting shadows across her black comforter. She knew it was late, but her mind just wouldn't shut down. She wished to blame it on wedding jitters, but the way her chest constricted with the usual panicked feeling, she knew it was worse than that. The idea of Karmina hunting her down specifically, the Supernatural world being much larger than she realized. Jayce knew. They all did, and she was kept out of the loop. He can say it was for her safety, but she thought he would know better by now.
He was leading Lily through the pack house blindfolded, the others following close behind them. After breakfast, everyone had gathered to go over what was left on the to-do list. Luna Isis had taken over as the wedding planner, relieving Lily of the burden. Luna Ella offered to be the photographer, bragging a bit about her photography studio in Louisiana. Alpha Javon offered to be the ordained minister for them, and Archibald practically demanded to cover the music. Lily looked uncertain about the Alpha controlling the music for the reception and Jayce couldn't blame her. He was devious with his antics in Hawaii, tempting his King with beautiful women. Never again will he be swayed other than by his Queen. Nathan and Selene were talking at the back of the group, discussing the layout of the venue set up Lily
Jayce advised the Lunas and Alphas to leave them be for the rest of the evening and they would gather in the morning to get the last minute details wrapped up for the wedding. At first the Lunas were hesitant to leave her alone, especially Selene. Maybe the Luna, soon to be Alpha, felt responsible for what her deceased husband did, but Lily could never blame her. There may have been a point in time where Lukas was a decent man, and he truly cared about Selene, but that man surrendered himself to a being unheard of. Karmina. Was she that enticing of a character? Should she be worried about the other Alphas succumbing to her? What about Jayce?
When did Lily become so grown up?His little girl was speaking to a group of She-Wolves after their dinner wrapped up. He knew that she was a people pleaser, but this atmosphere that surrounds her now is of something much higher than himself. Even Erica was taking part and she could care less about formal parties, that's just how she was. Yet here they both were, still together after all this time.
He watched his love give and receive the respect of a Luna before his very eyes. His heart swelled up with pride as she talked to the women as if they have been life long friends. Since arriving at his home, she had grown so much. Much more than he had, but he wanted to believe he was still a work in progress and that took getting her trust back and forgiving him."There is one other point of discussion we need to cover while we're all here." He announced, his voice silencing the group. Lily looked at him confused, her green eyes sparkling up at him.
Icould have saved him...The nurse that examined Lily gave her a frown like she could read her mind. Lukas was too far gone to even bother saving, but his Wolf? His Wolf still had a clear conscious. He still served his King to the very end. She just hoped he found the peace he needed to move on."Lily." Damion spoke, but she didn't glance his way. H
"Is Lily my sister?" He asked Derek. The Alpha shut his eyes and for a moment Jayce grew scared and horrified. After finding the picture of a woman that was the spitting image of Lily in his jacket pocket, he had a million questions added on from what he already had. He got lucky to arrive in time when Lukas was about to go in for the kill on Lily. Jayce only saw red after that, tearing Lukas apart until he was barely breathing. Then when he turned his attention on Derek who was already shifted back and injured, Lily had crossed his path, defending him."He saved me." She had said before passing out. Now she lay in a hospital b
