Erebus

“I only turn twenty-one once,” Lucian whines behind me. Refusing to turn around I just respond to him with a growl. “You promised,” he adds in.

Spinning around in my chair, his blue eyes are sparkling with fake tears and his lower lip is pushed out. “That does not work on me anymore,” I growl at him even though I feel my restraint begin to dissolve. “What will people think if they see their King out drinking at a bar?”

“Ugh,” Lucian groans, throwing his neck back in frustration. “When did you turn into our mom?”

Anger fills my body at being compared to her. I open my mouth to rebuke his comparison when I see his eyes flicker with amusement and a grin crosses his lips. “Where are we going,” I growl.

His bright blue eyes glitter with excitement, “It’s a place called The Wolf’s Den.”

“That place is a shithole,” I groan.

Lucian is practically jumping up and down. “So you’ve heard of it?”

“Can we pick a nicer location?” I rub my eyes roughly with palms of my hands

  • Fated to the Enemy   Chapter 1

LYRA Quietly humming to myself, I separate the broccoli from the chicken on my plate, trying to drown out the conversation my dad is having with my older brother, Chase. Father always chooses dinner time to bring up pack politics, trying to educate Chase before he takes over the pack in a few years. “Nothing is more boring than pack politics,” my wolf River says in my mind. I let out a loud snort gathering my father’s attention. He clears his throat just as I pop a piece of broccoli into my mouth. “Lyra,” he says breaking me from my inner thoughts. I quickly chew the broccoli in my mouth and spread an innocent grin across my face. “Yes, Father?” “Were you even paying attention to the conversation?” “Ummmm…” I stutter as blush creeps across my face. Frustration spreads across his face. “I was saying that tomorrow Alpha Andrew visits to discuss the treaty between our two packs. I do not trust his intentions. Once you come home from school, Cain will be your personal bodyguard until

ANDREW The trip to the Silver Wolf Pack is a short one but I cannot help but be irritated at the circumstances. I let my Beta drive so I could be alone with my thoughts. It has been three months since I challenged my uncle for his position of Alpha. I had the support of the pack behind me. My uncle had never found his mate and declining in his old age. His senile decisions were making things dangerous for the pack. Had the old man just relinquished power to me there would not have been any need for a challenge, and he could still be alive. Now all of his allies were questioning my loyalty to them. They see me as young and reckless. The Silver Wolf Pack is the last of the allies I have to meet with and will certainly be the most difficult. Alpha Jason and my uncle were extremely close, so now I am the enemy. As we cross the boarder into Silver Wolf territory my wolf, Brax, begins to howl loudly in my head. “Dude. What is your issue?” I demand silently. “Mate. Our mate is close.” Brax

LYRA“The absolute nerve of all of them!” I growl aloud to myself as I pace back and forth in my bedroom.River sits quietly in the back of my mind while I throw my temper tantrum. “You know you are talking out loud. Anyone can hear you.”“I do not care who hears me,” I scream at my bedroom door. “I have done nothing for myself. Nothing in 17 years but be the perfect daughter. They groomed me for this.” I turn to the door and yell louder. “They groomed me for this. Made sure that when the time came I would never find my true mate and settle for Cain.”Shaking with anger I walk over to my bed and flop on my back. I will myself not to cry. “If you cry you will appear soft,” River says quietly. “If I cry I will appear human.” I respond with more venom than I mean to. “My future has been stolen from me.” Hot tears burn my cheeks. I do not know if I am cryin

LYRAThe hard wood floor of my bedroom feels cold under my feet as I pace back and forth. I go over my plan to sneak out over and over again. In order to get to the border by midnight I need to leave around 11:30 pm. Everyone in the pack house should be sleeping by then. I cross my fingers as I look at the clock. The soft glow of the clock at my bedside tells me it is 11:00 pm, I inhale a deep breath, thirty more minutes. A rapid knock at my door stuns me into silence. Dashing across the room I hop into bed and pull the covers up around my neck. “Come in,” I say in my sleepiest voice. My door swings open and my father storms into my room. His dark eyes dart suspiciously around my room, as if he is expecting someone to be there with me. The look of anger on his face is terrifying. “We believe you are in danger,” he says simply. “Your door will be locked, and guards will be placed outside until Cain marks you as his mate.” Without anot

ANDREWAs Lyra’s blood mingles with mine I can feel my pull to her becoming stronger. The invisible bond that connects us is pulled tight in this moment and I want to do nothing more than wrap my arms around her and kiss her. Brax is pacing back and forth in my brain begging me to touch her, but I know that a man forcing himself on her is not what she needs in this moment. She has given up her family and her pack all in one night. I can tell by her face that she is visibly shaken.“Come on,” I say as I place my arm around her shoulder. “Let’s find you some clothes that are not covered in drool and a bed.” At the word ‘bed’ Lyra’s eyes rush to meet mine and her cheeks turn a deep shade of pink, and I cannot help the sly grin that crosses my lips. “A bed of your own, Little Wolf.”Quickly, Lyra looks down at her feet. “I knew what you meant.”I steer her in the direction of

ANDREWI reluctantly crawl off of Lyra, but not before brushing a small kiss across her lips. She looks shocked at the action, and I suddenly realize that it was probably her first kiss. Guilt consumes my brain about everything that I did to her earlier. If the rumors of her father’s treatment were true this morning was probably full of firsts for her. “She did not seem to mind,” Brax chimed in. “I can still smell her arousal from here.”I look back at the beautiful creature laying in my bed. Her brown eyes are wide and swirling with gold as she watches me from across the room. Messy golden locks frame her face like a halo. Her full breast are straining against her pajama top, and I lick my lips at the thought of taking each of her nipples into my mouth. Her legs are still slightly spread, begging me to place my body back between them. I have to turn away or I know I will not ever leave this room.I walk into my closet and p

My heart is racing, and I can hardly breathe. “What did we just do?” I whisper to River.River is panting so loudly in my head I can hardly think. “I do not know but I think we should do it again.”“River, we have saved ourselves for our mate,” I scold her.“You heard him claim us when Cain wrapped his arm around our shoulder. He knows we are mate,” River explains excitedly.“We cannot be positive until we turn 18, now can we.”River pouts in my head, “Why not just ask him?”I gasp in shock. “We cannot just ask someone if they are our mate!”“Why not?”“It is… it is not proper,” I tell her.River laughs loudly in my head, “I think we are a bit past proper. Plus, if we ask him can mark us now and then Cain won’t be able t

ELLA Checking my reflection in the mirror, I turn from side to side making sure that none of my ‘important parts’ are hanging out, as Gramps Walter likes to say. Carefully I check my makeup, avoiding my own emerald gaze in the mirror. Since I ran from my family in the Appalachian Mountains I haven’t been able to look myself in the eyes. These are the same eyes that belong to one of my fathers. A constant reminder that I am not the daughter they planned for me to be. My birth was foreseen, my powers were foreseen, and yet here I stand an ordinary werewolf. The color of my wolf’s fur should have been enough to serve as passage into the magical world of witches. But unlike any Silver Wolf that has come before me I am powerless. Practicing a fake smile for the mirror I don’t miss how my smile no longer meets my eyes, but lucky for me the bar patrons are always too drunk to notice or even care. I chuckle a little bit at my reflection, Gramps is going to throw a fit tonight. I h

  • Fated to the Enemy   Epilogue

LYRASixteen Years Later I watch as my daughter stares out of the window. The thick layer of snow that coats the ground reminds me of the night she was born. There was so much snow that even Andrew’s Jeep could not make it through the snow. I laugh a little at the irony of it all. Here I am largely pregnant, with swollen ankles, and my feet propped up on a pillow. It is the exact thing that I refused to do a little more than sixteen years ago. The look on my daughter’s face is one of worry and regret. I pat the couch beckoning her to come and sit with me. Leaning in I whisper quietly so no one care hear me. “She’s awake. Isn’t she?” I ask referring to her wolf. My question causes anxiety to ripple off her in waves. Hiding her face in her hands she tries to control her breathing. We already know she is a Silver Wolf. We have prepared for this day since she was old enough to understand. I have known that her wolf had awoken weeks ago, I can feel my power waning when

  • Fated to the Enemy   Chapter 83

LYRA The smell of cinnamon and apples fills the pack house. Abigale and I have been baking all day preparing for Chase and Annie to visit for an early Christmas celebration. My overly round belly is covered in flour because it keeps getting in the way. Every time I turn around I am knocking something over with my baby bump. Abigale has given up trying to clean up after me. I have been on my feet all day and my ankles are killing me. Looking down I can see that they are twice their normal size. My stomach is cramping, and it is becoming difficult to breathe. Abigale has tried to get me to sit down several times, but I really want to help. It is my first Christmas celebration with my mates and my brother, I want to do as much of the work as I possibly can. Bracing my hands against my back, I lean backwards trying to stretch my tight belly, but nothing seems to alleviate the pressure. Deciding t

  • Fated to the Enemy   Chapter 82

LYRAThe cold gel hits my abdomen, and it makes me jump a little. Andrew and James are beside me grinning from ear to ear. They look like little kids on Christmas morning. I try to hide the waves of anxiety following through my body. Deep down I know everything is fine. I have seen her in my visions, I know that she is okay. But that does not stop me from worrying. So many terrible things have happened since I got pregnant, what if the visions have since changed. There is a tiny voice in my mind that is making me doubt if my visions are correct or not.I keep my eyes closed tight while the doctor rolls the ultrasound wand along my stomach. Then I hear it. The whooshing sound of a heartbeat fills the room. Andrew and James squeeze my hand tightly. Placing my free hand over my eyes I let out a sigh of relief, but I still cannot bring myself to look at the screen. I feel Andrew’s lips against my

LYRAAbigale sits beside me and fidgets nervously in her seat. “Your brother is okay with it,” she says frantically. Laying my hand on top of hers I guess her a little squeeze. “Whatever it is, I am sure we will be fine with it too.”Taking in a deep breath and holding it for a moment, Abigale breathes out slowly. “Annie and I are not actual sisters,” she begins. “she is my stepsister.”“Of course,” I smile brightly. “If she were a werewolf her hearing would have repaired itself.” Abigale watches me carefully as I piece together her family tree. “You said that your stepmother wanted to teach you both about all of the magical creatures that live in this world?”“Supernatural beings,” Abigale corrects. “Yes.”“They are witches!&rd

  • Fated to the Enemy   Chapter 80

LYRAThis may sound crazy, but I simply could not wait for Grace to meet Prissy. I just knew that their had to be another person on the planet that Prissy did not want to murder, and I knew that Grace was that person. Linking my arm in hers I carefully guided her up the stairs to the pack house. Long gone is the youthful woman that trained me in the cabin. As soon as Lilith’s magic faded so did Grace’s youth, but I seemed to be the only one that noticed. Her once bright blue eyes are now a little duller than before and her beautiful black hair is now streaked with stripes of gray. When she smiles I can still see the vibrant, headstrong woman from the cabin, but I can tell that Lilith’s death has taken a toll on her.“The boys let me have a cat,” I explain excitedly. “Her name is Prissy, and she is absolutely perfect.”Grace pats my hand as we walk through the front door together.

ANDREW “I’m driving,” Lyra says as she grabs the keys to my Jeep from my hands. “Uh,” bile rises in my throat at the thought of anyone driving my Jeep but me. “Do you even have a license?” Lyra hops into the driver’s side and puts the key into the ignition and giving it a turn. “I mean not on me this moment. But I have one legally… I think,” she slides that last part in quietly thinking that I do not hear her over her revving the engine. “Nope,” I draw out the word before popping the ‘p’ with my lips. “You aren’t driving.” Reaching in I try to pull her from the seat, but she is ignoring me, fiddling with the dials on the dash and adjusting her mirrors. “When was the last time you ate?” She questions with an eyebrow raised and I can only glare in her direction because I know that she is technically right. I am in no shape to drive. “Exactly,” she chi
