LYRA

I lay on the bed for a few moments after Andrew leaves the room. My heart is racing, and I can hardly breathe. “What did we just do?” I whisper to River.

River is panting so loudly in my head I can hardly think. “I do not know but I think we should do it again.”

“River, we have saved ourselves for our mate,” I scold her.

“You heard him claim us when Cain wrapped his arm around our shoulder. He knows we are mate,” River explains excitedly.

“We cannot be positive until we turn 18, now can we.”

River pouts in my head, “Why not just ask him?”

I gasp in shock. “We cannot just ask someone if they are our mate!”

“Why not?”

“It is… it is not proper,” I tell her.

River laughs loudly in my head, “I think we are a bit past proper. Plus, if we ask him can mark us now and then Cain won’t be able t

ANDREW“Will you mark me?” Lyra’s brown eyes stare deeply into mine. “So Cain never can.”I am at a loss for words. Her browns eyes swirl to gold, letting me know that her wolf is pushing forward with her. Surely she cannot be serious, to be marked before your eigthteenth birthday is frowned upon in the werewolf community. “I do not think you know what you are asking,” is the only thing I can think to say.“I do know. I need to be safe from my father and Cain. This is the only way to keep me safe.” She pleads with me desperately. “If you mark me then he cannot. I will not mark you in return. I just…” she trails off quietly. “No. No. I do not think you do know what you are asking,” I search my brain for the most delicate way to explain this to her. “Marking… and… mating… tend to take place at the same time. Uh… and I do not think, no, I k

LYRAMy growling stomach wakes me from my sleep. Moon light is filtering in through the dark curtains barely illuminating the room. Looking to my right I see Andrew curled up beside me resting peacefully. I reach out to quietly trace his jaw line with my fingers. He moans quietly in his sleep as the feeling of electricity pulses between us. I gently touch the bit of skin where he left his mark, it is tender to the touch but tingles as I trace my fingers along it. “We can finally be safe,” I say silently to River.“We will always be safe with mate.” River yawns and lays back down in the back of my mind to sleep.I lay and stare at the ceiling for what seems like forever trying to ignore the sounds my stomach is making, but sleep is unable to find me. Finally my stomach rumbles so loudly that I am sure it will wake Andrew. I cannot remember the last time that I have eaten, and I am starving. I creep from Andrew’s bed and slowl

ANDREWIf I would have found anyone else sitting on my office desk with crackers in one hand and my grandfather’s journal in the other, I would probably have executed them on the spot. But seeing Lyra sitting on my desk with her feet kicking back and forth to the rhythm she is humming softens my heart. Moonlight catches her golden curls and make them glow against her olive skin, and her full lips pout slightly as she hums and reads the book. I cannot take my eyes off of her in this moment, she is the most beautiful creature in the world.I frown when she looks up and catches me staring at her, her cheeks flush with embarrassment but there is nothing for her to be embarrassed about. She stumbles over an apology as if she were afraid that I would punish her for being in my office. But I am not even concerned about where she is at the moment, I do not even hear her words.“You sing beautifully.” I am so consumed by he

LYRALoud laughter wakes me from my sleep and a sharp pain shoots up my back. I try to move my legs, but they are pinned down and tingling. Squinting against the morning sun I open my eyes to see who is laughing and why my legs are asleep. I look down and Andrew’s giant wolf is spread across my legs as if he is a lap dog. I look up and the blonde man from the woods is standing over us laughing.“You must be James,” I say trying to pull my hands out from under Andrew’s wolf, but he is so heavy I cannot move him. I push him a little and he just rolls on his back and starts to snore.“A little help?” I ask as I raise one of my eyebrows in a playful way.“Of course, Luna.” James says as he smacks Andrew’s wolf on the hind quarters making him jump to life and start growling. I fling myself against the wall and cover my face to avoid the gnashing teeth right near my ear. “It is alright, Brax, it is jus

  • Fated to the Enemy   Chapter 12

LYRA The door to Andrew’s bedroom swings open and the sound of someone singing fills my ears. I sit up abruptly and meet the eyes of a tiny woman with gray hair and a face full of wrinkles. Her blue eyes sparkle gently as she looks at me wrapped in Andrew’s blankets. “Oh dear, I apologize, Luna,” she says with a bit of shock in her voice. “I was told you were staying in the guest room.” “I was supposed to be, but ummm…” I did not know how to finish. I was not sure why I chose to stay in Andrew’s room rather than one of my own. The shock on the woman’s face disappears and she gently smiles at me. The smile is so joyful it reaches her eyes, causing them to twinkle brightly. “Luna, it does not feel right to sleep away from your mate. You do not owe me an explanation.”A warmth spreads across my chest, and I suddenly feel like I can tell this woman my deepest darkest sec

Lyra“You are mine,” Andrew growls pinning me to the bed beneath him. I can feel the rumble in his chest as he presses against me.I think I know what he is expecting in this moment, and I do not think that I am ready. Pushing against his chest with the palms of my hands, “Andrew…” I breath as he tries to pepper my neck with kisses. “Andrew, I am waiting…Andrew lifts his head from my neck, “I promise not to take your virginity until you ask.” I can feel relief wash across me. “But that does not mean that we cannot have a little fun in the meantime.”My breath hitches as Andrew’s hands travels to the inside of my shirt and he grips my hips, grinding his cock against my thigh. Hooking his fingers around the waist band of my shorts he pulls them off in one swipe. I use my hands to cover myself as Andrew looks down on me. He grabs o

  • Fated to the Enemy   Chapter 14

LYRAAndrew grabs my hand and pulls me out of his bedroom. As he practically drags me down the stairs, I can smell something delicious coming from the kitchen. Turning down the hall I can see Alva standing at the stove frying something in a pan. When she sees Andrew and I approach the kitchen I can see her visibly stiffen. Walking up behind her I place my hand on her shoulder and feel the energy transfer between the two of us. The action seems to relax her.Suddenly my vision fades to black, and I am standing in the Silver Wolf packhouse. Little me is sitting at the dinner table, I could not have been more than three or four. My curls were still wild, and I sat with my arms crossed tightly against my chest. “You cannot make me eat my friends!” I scream at my father who is looking down on me, his eyes full of anger. My mother gets up from the table and kisses me on the top of my head. “You can be a strong wolf, even if you do not want to eat yo

LYRAI hear the curtains in Andrew’s bedroom fling open and the morning sunlight hits my face. Letting out an irritated groan, I pull the covers over my head and try to go back to sleep. Feeling the bed dip beside me, I am suddenly bouncing up and down. I rip the covers off of my head and glare up into Andrew’s amused green eyes. Andrew is standing over me jumping up and down on his bed like a child. “What are you, five years old?” I groan as I cover my head with my pillow. The pillow is ripped from my head and Andrew begins to jump up and down and smack me in the face with pillow. “Wakey, Wakey,” he taunts as he continues his assault. “Today you are spending the day with Alva.”At Alva’s name I perk up. “You should have said so.” Sitting up, I push Andrew out of the way, and he tumbles off the side of the bed landing on the floor with a thud. Erebus “I only turn twenty-one once,” Lucian whines behind me. Refusing to turn around I just respond to him with a growl. “You promised,” he adds in. Spinning around in my chair, his blue eyes are sparkling with fake tears and his lower lip is pushed out. “That does not work on me anymore,” I growl at him even though I feel my restraint begin to dissolve. “What will people think if they see their King out drinking at a bar?” “Ugh,” Lucian groans, throwing his neck back in frustration. “When did you turn into our mom?” Anger fills my body at being compared to her. I open my mouth to rebuke his comparison when I see his eyes flicker with amusement and a grin crosses his lips. “Where are we going,” I growl. His bright blue eyes glitter with excitement, “It’s a place called The Wolf’s Den.” “That place is a shithole,” I groan. Lucian is practically jumping up and down. “So you’ve heard of it?” “Can we pick a nicer location?” I rub my eyes roughly with palms of my hands

ELLA Checking my reflection in the mirror, I turn from side to side making sure that none of my ‘important parts’ are hanging out, as Gramps Walter likes to say. Carefully I check my makeup, avoiding my own emerald gaze in the mirror. Since I ran from my family in the Appalachian Mountains I haven’t been able to look myself in the eyes. These are the same eyes that belong to one of my fathers. A constant reminder that I am not the daughter they planned for me to be. My birth was foreseen, my powers were foreseen, and yet here I stand an ordinary werewolf. The color of my wolf’s fur should have been enough to serve as passage into the magical world of witches. But unlike any Silver Wolf that has come before me I am powerless. Practicing a fake smile for the mirror I don’t miss how my smile no longer meets my eyes, but lucky for me the bar patrons are always too drunk to notice or even care. I chuckle a little bit at my reflection, Gramps is going to throw a fit tonight. I h

  • Fated to the Enemy   Epilogue

LYRASixteen Years Later I watch as my daughter stares out of the window. The thick layer of snow that coats the ground reminds me of the night she was born. There was so much snow that even Andrew’s Jeep could not make it through the snow. I laugh a little at the irony of it all. Here I am largely pregnant, with swollen ankles, and my feet propped up on a pillow. It is the exact thing that I refused to do a little more than sixteen years ago. The look on my daughter’s face is one of worry and regret. I pat the couch beckoning her to come and sit with me. Leaning in I whisper quietly so no one care hear me. “She’s awake. Isn’t she?” I ask referring to her wolf. My question causes anxiety to ripple off her in waves. Hiding her face in her hands she tries to control her breathing. We already know she is a Silver Wolf. We have prepared for this day since she was old enough to understand. I have known that her wolf had awoken weeks ago, I can feel my power waning when

LYRA The smell of cinnamon and apples fills the pack house. Abigale and I have been baking all day preparing for Chase and Annie to visit for an early Christmas celebration. My overly round belly is covered in flour because it keeps getting in the way. Every time I turn around I am knocking something over with my baby bump. Abigale has given up trying to clean up after me. I have been on my feet all day and my ankles are killing me. Looking down I can see that they are twice their normal size. My stomach is cramping, and it is becoming difficult to breathe. Abigale has tried to get me to sit down several times, but I really want to help. It is my first Christmas celebration with my mates and my brother, I want to do as much of the work as I possibly can. Bracing my hands against my back, I lean backwards trying to stretch my tight belly, but nothing seems to alleviate the pressure. Deciding t

  • Fated to the Enemy   Chapter 82

LYRAThe cold gel hits my abdomen, and it makes me jump a little. Andrew and James are beside me grinning from ear to ear. They look like little kids on Christmas morning. I try to hide the waves of anxiety following through my body. Deep down I know everything is fine. I have seen her in my visions, I know that she is okay. But that does not stop me from worrying. So many terrible things have happened since I got pregnant, what if the visions have since changed. There is a tiny voice in my mind that is making me doubt if my visions are correct or not.I keep my eyes closed tight while the doctor rolls the ultrasound wand along my stomach. Then I hear it. The whooshing sound of a heartbeat fills the room. Andrew and James squeeze my hand tightly. Placing my free hand over my eyes I let out a sigh of relief, but I still cannot bring myself to look at the screen. I feel Andrew’s lips against my

LYRAAbigale sits beside me and fidgets nervously in her seat. “Your brother is okay with it,” she says frantically. Laying my hand on top of hers I guess her a little squeeze. “Whatever it is, I am sure we will be fine with it too.”Taking in a deep breath and holding it for a moment, Abigale breathes out slowly. “Annie and I are not actual sisters,” she begins. “she is my stepsister.”“Of course,” I smile brightly. “If she were a werewolf her hearing would have repaired itself.” Abigale watches me carefully as I piece together her family tree. “You said that your stepmother wanted to teach you both about all of the magical creatures that live in this world?”“Supernatural beings,” Abigale corrects. “Yes.”“They are witches!&rd

  • Fated to the Enemy   Chapter 80

LYRAThis may sound crazy, but I simply could not wait for Grace to meet Prissy. I just knew that their had to be another person on the planet that Prissy did not want to murder, and I knew that Grace was that person. Linking my arm in hers I carefully guided her up the stairs to the pack house. Long gone is the youthful woman that trained me in the cabin. As soon as Lilith’s magic faded so did Grace’s youth, but I seemed to be the only one that noticed. Her once bright blue eyes are now a little duller than before and her beautiful black hair is now streaked with stripes of gray. When she smiles I can still see the vibrant, headstrong woman from the cabin, but I can tell that Lilith’s death has taken a toll on her.“The boys let me have a cat,” I explain excitedly. “Her name is Prissy, and she is absolutely perfect.”Grace pats my hand as we walk through the front door together.

ANDREW “I’m driving,” Lyra says as she grabs the keys to my Jeep from my hands. “Uh,” bile rises in my throat at the thought of anyone driving my Jeep but me. “Do you even have a license?” Lyra hops into the driver’s side and puts the key into the ignition and giving it a turn. “I mean not on me this moment. But I have one legally… I think,” she slides that last part in quietly thinking that I do not hear her over her revving the engine. “Nope,” I draw out the word before popping the ‘p’ with my lips. “You aren’t driving.” Reaching in I try to pull her from the seat, but she is ignoring me, fiddling with the dials on the dash and adjusting her mirrors. “When was the last time you ate?” She questions with an eyebrow raised and I can only glare in her direction because I know that she is technically right. I am in no shape to drive. “Exactly,” she chi
