Irene:
Lunch is very different without my twin sister, the table used to be filled with her jokes, her joyous laughter and her never ending teasing, but the atmosphere looks tense and rigid. What used to be a happy family has now become something so forbidden. I pick at my food, looking very gloomily. I stare across the table to meet the eyes of my father, who looks very disturbed. Things have been rough for my father, the Alpha. The problem of my sick twin sister and the constant war threats we are facing has made him lose so much weight. “Darling, I think we should tell her now.” My mother speaks up, her bottom lips quivering. Silence hangs in the air for a while. My elder brother, Alejandro who is set to become Alpha in a few months furrows his brows in confusion. “Father, what’s going on?” My father clears his throat; his dark green eyes pinned on me. “Your sister is betrothed to get married to the Alpha King, Enrique De Luca of Nightshade pack, but with her illness, it’s impossible.” My heart picks up, I fear that there’s more to my father’s words. Enrique De Luca is one of the feared Alphas in all of Puerto Rico, rumored to be the beast, he sets villages on fire, and kills without mercy. Our pack was at the brink of falling apart, people were murdered and since my father couldn’t stand to watch the disharmony of his pack withering away, he made a deal with Alpha Enrique of the neighboring pack last year, offering my twin sister, Iris, as his wife. I was angry at my father. How could he treat his own daughter as trash? Are we just pawns in his game? “You are going to take her place, Irene. You will get married to him.” My father, Alpha Vincent says and my eyes widens. “Are you serious right now?” I raise my voice, my hands trembling. “I can’t get married to a beast!” “Watch your tone, young lady.” My father shoots me a warning glare, his green eyes turning a shade of light red. I can tell he’s trying to keep his wolf under control but he’s not the only one angry. “Irene.” My mother snaps at me, but her eyes turn kind when she skims over my face. She shifts her chair aside and takes gentle steps towards me. “We want the best for our pack, your sister agreed to the wedding, but with her sickness, she can’t marry him.” “So, I am your second usable option then?” Tears threaten to fall from my eyes, but I refuse to let them see me cry, I am not weak. How could they be so selfish? Giving me to a man I know nothing about? I stare at my elder brother who has suddenly gone quiet, irritation and anger fills me. “Say something, Ale! Surely, you can’t let them marry me off to an unknown man.” He stares up at me in pity, like everyone else, he has always been scared of our father, one slight mistake and my father could snatch his Alpha title right off his head and that’s what he fears. Why can’t he just stand up for me even if it’s for once? My family has never been the loving kind, we survived under our own instincts. “You should listen to mother and father, they know best.” He mumbles, staring down at his food. I turn towards my father, trying to calm my angered wolf, Ora. “Please, father. Rethink your decision, there must be a way to stop this war threat, getting married will not solve it.” “How do you expect me to stop this, huh? We are getting attacked each day, our pack’s stocks are dropping, watching people in my pack die has done nothing but add to the rising stress. Alpha Enrique will protect us and the pack-members.” “Have you all lost your mind?” I stare at my mother who doesn’t say a word and then to my father who’s fuming in rage. “Do you know how ruthless this man is? He could kill us all!” My chest is heaving in anger, I am trying to let them see my point, but they just won’t. His kingdom is darker than any other pack, his ways and advances are too cruel and yet hundreds of Alphas are shoving their daughters at his arm just for protection. “You leave me no choice then, Elva will get married to him.” My father says, referring to my younger sister. “What?!” I snap my eyes up at him, “She’s nothing but eighteen.” “Then think fast, the banquet is tonight. Alpha Enrique will be here and he will be leaving with his bride,” Alpha Vincent slams the table hard, before walking out of the dining room, my elder brother follows obediently behind him leaving me alone with my mother. I am left shaking in my seat, my bottom lips quivering. “Oh, dear.” My mother says calmly, before moving over to me, her eyes are misty, and I can almost see a tear slide down her cheek. “This is for the benefit of the whole pack, your father loves you, but with the entire burden in his hands, it has made him stressed.” “Is this how he will treat his daughters? Like we don’t matter in his presence? We have never even met Enrique before, for all we know. My twin sister is strapped on her bed really sick and now you want to force me to get married to him?” I ask, under my pale lashes. “Your younger sister, Elva, is going to get married to him, darling.” She says reassuringly, as though it will make the whole situation lighter. Does this not bother her at all? I stand up immediately staring into the warm eyes of my mother. I am four years Elva’s senior, she’s far too innocent and kind to get married to a ruthless king. “Please mother.” I try begging, my hands clutching her frail arms desperately. “We can change that and convince father,” I bite my lower lips, my heart squeezing in despair. “There’s nothing I can do dear, it’s out of my control.” She admits truthfully and I shake my head at her. She’s a mother, why can’t she understand the pain of losing her daughters? Ever since my twin sister’s sickness, we haven’t quite been the same anymore, she was flown out of the pack to be taken care of, and now I just imagine how hard it must be for her battling an unknown sickness. I turn my back away from her and start walking towards the hall, ignoring her gentle calling of my name. I don’t need any of their talks right now, I just need to be away from everybody else for a while.....Irene: Later that night, I am in my younger sister’s room, staring at her pale complexion in the mirror. The Omegas have plastered her face with enough make-up and she’s dressed in a midnight blue dress.Elva picks at her nails, her face withdrawn from her normal smile, my heart coils in anger. This isn’t fair, this is not the life I want for my younger sister, she’s far too young to get married to a ruthless man.Elva is the youngest, the sweetest, she never comes out from her room, her eyes always dug in a book, throwing this huge responsibility in her shoulders is just too cruel.“Elva,” I say slowly, trying to convince her that this is a bad idea. “Please, don’t do this.”“I don’t have a choice, Irene. This is my duty,” She replies quietly and my heart breaks more.“You have the right to choose what you want, father may be hard on us but he still loves us,” I grab her hand hopefully, letting her stare deeply into my eyes, her green eyes water with tears and all I want to do is w
Irene:Silence hangs in the air and I take a glance at my father who has suddenly gone flustered, Alpha Enrique isn’t suppose to notice the difference, my twin sister and I are very much alike with our ginger wavy hair and sharp forest green eyes, we are nearly identical yet Enrique has manage to tell us apart. He has never even met my twin sister, she was only betrothed as his bride nothing else. So why is it such a big deal? My father, the once non-agreeable and cold man, is smiling, something he rarely does. If anything he seems scared of the man in front of him. The whole hall has gone silent, no one daring to say a word.“You showed me her photos.” He growls at my father, fury burning like fire in those eyes, “She doesn’t look like this, does she?”Alpha Vincent trembles and I can see the fear that washes in his eyes. “The thing is, my daughter got really sick, but this is her twin sister, they are really alike, you can’t tell the difference, her younger sister is too young to g
Enrique:A year ago,The sight was gruesome; blood splattered everywhere, rumbles of rain slided down my hair, tiny sparse raindrops flashed down my face, but that wasn't the least of my concerns. My heart thundered as I watched the man who used to be my friend plunge the dagger deep into my sister's body and yet I was unable to do anything. I felt weak and useless."Stop!" Was the only rough echo that resounded around, my eyes was a burning rage of fire. Annoyance, anger, betrayal flickered through my crimson red eyes."You said you were going to protect her, but you didn't." He laughed, his voice dark as hell.“You are never a step ahead.” He stared at me, blood stains on his shirt, I watched as he wiped his face with the layer of his sleeve and anger consumed me the most. I watched as my sister slowly dropped dead to the floor, coughing out blood, I ran towards her, calling her name frantically."Anna. Wake up, please." My voice was pleading as I held her cold body into my arms, t
Enrique:The seer’s words bring relief to my aching body; I can hear Tyler release a heavy sigh and the seer’s eyes are still fixated on me.“She’s here.” I say, a smile on my lips. “She’s in this pack-house.” Watch out Dante, you are good as dead.“That’s great. The moon goddess chose her for a reason, she must be really special. For her to be able to take down a primordial wolf, the moon goddess must have seen something in her.” He’s smiling and I am hiding a tiny smile.Oh Dante, you are so dead. Now, I am grateful that the moon goddess chose Irene, but how will I get her to kill my greatest enemy? She doesn’t look dumb, if anything. Her green eyes showcase how feisty she is. But still...“However.” The seer says and I hold my breath. “Her powers will start developing, it will mostly depend on her mood. The stronger her emotions are, the more her powers will spark out. For instance, if she’s angry, an angry storm might destroy your pack, which just shows how powerful she will becom
Irene:I don’t like parties, I never did. I hate the endless music and the fact that people come to these kinds of parties to gain favor and power. My twin sister, Iris loves parties; she sucks up all the attention, always drinking wine and laughing. So full of energy.I mean, if Alpha Enrique is capable of doing dangerous things, imagine the people that will show up for his party. From the mirror in my room, I watch as the Omega assigned to me helps with my hair and make-up, she seems invested in her work as she rolls the mascara on my lashes, then the lipstick and finally the grand dress. This better be good, unfortunately Alpha Enrique has racked my walk-in closet with different classes of clothes ranging from dresses, coats, suits, pants, and blouses all sorted by style and color. In my bedroom, there's a center island with drawers for sock and underwear and workout clothes and jeans, the other back is lined with bags- Gucci, Ferragamo, Chanel, Vuitton all to rock a party, deprivi
Enrique:I couldn’t sleep last night. I kept tossing and turning on the bed, fear grips me at night, I don't like to close my eyes so that I don’t get reminded of what happened last year. The dream is always gruesome, repeating itself over and over again.Fucking Dante, I can’t believe he had the nerves to look Irene straight in the eye and lure her into his fucking daydream. I saw his eyes last night; he was trying to trick her. His eyes are the only thing he holds valuable, it’s a power that’s embedded in their family line; they could lure you, trick you and possess you if you stare.I am grateful it’s morning, I don’t think I can spend any more hours in that stiff bed. Tyler is going to train Irene today, speaking of which. I am in doubt, I know that he said something to her; this only makes me want to punch him straight in the fucking face.He shouldn’t mess with what’s mine, else. He might just have to suffer the consequences. I am in the shower when my phone rings, grunting I sw
Irene:Seriously? All that for nothing? I watch as Tyler and Enrique walk out of the room and I so badly want to roll my eyes. Walking out of the room, I bump straight into Gia.“Hey, darling.” She puffs out a kiss. “I was just going out for breakfast, want to come along?”“Okay.” I sigh as we walk outside to her car, I want to ask her so badly about what happened last night or who that Dante guy is, or someone to talk to about the letter, it’s driving me insane not having any clue and being left in the darkness. She ignites the engine and soon we were driving out of the gates of the pack-house.“Want some calming music?” She turns on the radio, and the soft blare of music tunes into the car, she shakes her head to the tune rapping her head against the car seat. The gentle wind whips our hair, this feels cool. It feels like freedom, I can’t even remember the last time I was out like this, maybe in the academy with my best-friend, Lilly.“Do you love our pack?” She yells through the wi
Enrique:Dante has been here, the trees are all burnt down, leaving behind ashes. Smoke congests around the whole forest, broken twigs, almost withered leaves.“This stuff is shit.” My Gamma, Chase says, staring around with his lips pursed. “I never knew Dante would have taken it this far.”“I just don’t like the idea of waking up this early only to see this.” Agnar yawns. “I should have stopped at my wife’s bakery to grab a coffee.”Tyler gives him a hard glare. “Yeah, well. Not all of us are entitled like you, man.” “I am just stating a fact, alright? No need to get moody about it.” Agnar retorts. It’s been rough between them ever since Agnar got married to Tyler’s ex-mate, I don’t even remember the last time Tyler has looked at any other woman, he might not always show it, but Chase and I both know that he’s hell miserable. “Clearly, there was an ambush here.” I cough loudly, before they start punching each other to death. “I don’t know why Dante is doing this, though. If he want
Irene:We both stumble to the floor, me gripping the knife, aimed at his neck. Dante’s on the floor, breathing raggedly, looking at me while sweating. “You are making a terrible mistake, Irene.” His voice comes out rough, tiny, almost scared.I want to laugh so badly, the almighty Dante acting scared. Good, he should be scared.I pin his wrists tightly and drive the blade into his shoulders, he howls painfully before kicking me off with a force that knocks the breath out of my lungs, my body hits the floor, the impact rattling my bones. The room starts to spin in my eyes and something starts surging through me.My powers, wild and uncontrollable. My chest claws painfully and the walls start to tremble, cracks spilling the wall. The pressure builds in my chest, shit. The house is going to collapse with everyone in it.We are all going to die, even on the floor, I see Dante crawling to the exit, clutching his bloody shoulders in pain. Fucking Coward. My legs feel like jelly as I try to
The Darkness:Red and I are waiting in the car, while Gia is in the hospital, she specifically told us not to come in. She’s still angry at me, not even saying anything to me.I don’t blame her though; second chances are rare for people like me. Earlier, I had met with the doctor who told me about the Primordial Wolf blood, and deciding to give Enrique has been entirely my decision.“Stay in the car, Red. I am going in.” I tell him, opening the door, but of course, Red trails behind me, hands tucked into his coat jacket. Together, we walk into the doctor’s office, and while everyone’s scared to see me, Enrique’s father yells the most at me.However, the moment I tell them I am here to transfer my blood, the room falls quiet. Gia stares up at me from her wet lashes, batting away the tears. Something squeezes inside me, seeing her cry like this, it does something to me.Finally, Enrique’s father says, “we don’t want your blood.” I raise my brows at him and his wife nudges him in the sho
Anna:Mama, papa and I are seated in the dining room, alongside Hunter and his wife, Linda. The atmosphere is gloomy as I pick on my chicken salad, for days now; I haven’t had that much of an appetite.Just yesterday, the weyr withdrew their dragons, and for some unknown reasons, the darkness sent the letter of withdrawal. Our pack is now war-free, but some damages were made to the buildings and of course, our pack suffered loss. The money that Hunter’s pack donated to us and our pack’s net worth is enough to fix everything in a month, but the true loss hangs with us all. The death of my beloved brother, Enrique.I have spent the past few days catching up with mama and papa, they have been the best supportive parents ever and even though I feel very bad about Enrique, they haven’t left me out of their sight.I push away the chair, feeling very bitter. “I will like to be excused from dinner,”Papa looks me in the eye, his eyes crinkling around the corner with concern; my stomach churns
Irene:I don’t know how many days have passed since I have been in this tiny cell. Whenever I am asleep, someone comes to take out the bucket, though I refuse to use that, my bowel is certainly paying for that. In the mornings, someone brings cold toast that tastes like sandpaper and in the evening all I get is cold pudding that tastes like it is made from the sewer. At first, I refused to eat any food, who knows if that motherfucker is poisoning me slowly? Besides, I want to relish in the fact that Dante doesn’t like to see the plates returned with the food intact. But after a while, I couldn’t take it anymore. I eat the food like my whole life depends on it, because, let’s be honest. It does.Oh. The lovely things I took for granted, what I will give to have a steaming bowl of rice or adobo, Linda has been making that Filipino dish for me and it tastes heavenly.I can’t tell night from day here, aside from the tiny light in the window, if nothing kills me here, then I am sure boredo
Rowena:“How could you?” I am yelling angrily at my parents, after finding out that they gave Red their armies in exchange for marriage, I have been fuming in anger. I rushed over here as soon as I could to tell them to withdraw the armies. “Because of your selfish decisions, countless people are dying in nightshade pack!”How was I so ignorant? Red told me that my parents were agreeing to our marriage because of the contract for the plant his pack grew, why did nobody tell me about the armies? They left me in the dark and plotted it secretly. The only worst thing than being insulted is being ignored. My parents are seated on the chair, staring at me as I yell and pace across the room. The omega comes in with a tray of a kettle. I keep quiet as she pours the tea into their teapot, when she offers me a cup, I politely decline and the moment she steps out, I resume yelling.“You are very inconsiderate.” My body is trembling and I know that any moment from now, I am going to break down a
Irene:It is as though it’s in slow motion, the moment when the dragon releases Enrique, I let out a loud squeal, my lungs burn, I don’t think I ever yelled like that before.I go to the edge of the bridge, planting my hands on the railing as I watch Enrique collide with the water, closing him up. It’s impossible to watch, tears are rolling down my eyes. I sink towards the floor, my body numb.“Enrique.” I mumble. This can’t be. He can’t die, right? He’s a Primordial Wolf, he can’t fucking die. But Primordial Wolves can die from drowning. Pure anger shimmers inside of me as I stand up. Anna is currently yelling at him, tears stinging her eyes. She’s not the only one feeling the loss of her brother. “You said you wouldn’t kill him! You went back on your promise. You are horrible.”“I never said otherwise.” He says calmly, turning towards Gia. “Let’s go.”She steps back, her posture wavering. “You killed Enrique, you fucking killed him!”He had no right to kill him; the darkness is suc
Enrique:There’s a saying that when you are dreaming and you blink, everything just disappears, actually no one says that but I can’t believe it.I blink.I stare. It’s her, my eighteen year old younger sister, Anna De Luca, dressed in black, holding a pistol and standing beside Dominic. My mother is the first person to rush forward, choking back tears.“Anna?” She calls out gently, attempting to hold Anna but one of the men tries telling her to back off, she grabs his hand and flips him towards the floor, everyone, excluding my father and I, gasps. There’s a reason my mother was a warrior.“Mama.” Anna smiles a bit, embracing my mother, my father joins and they embrace tightly, meanwhile I stand there, feeling completely stunned. When she finishes embracing them, we stare at each other and I know. It’s her. My younger sister, the one I named. The girl that destroyed nearly all slumber party with the boys, the girl that’s so fucking smart.I run towards her, and crash her into a tight
Irene:I wake up with a throbbing headache, the light from the window reflects on my face. It is weird waking up to a different room where there’s no scent of Enrique, the bedroom is cozy, but it isn’t home. The bed is soft, but there’s no warmth of him.The room is silent, I miss waking up to the rhythmic beating of his chest or his slow breathing beside me, there is no rustle of sheets, or his arm draped over mine or his gentle murmur in my ear. It’s funny because once upon a time, I always longed to wake up beside him, to hear his good morning, to catch him shirtless just shuffling around the bathroom, to see his toned muscles, to kiss him hungrily, those are the moments I craved for, but now, it just feels so lonely.A tear slides down my face and I wipe it away roughly, looking around. The room is plastered in soft beige colors, but what I miss is the vibrant colors of his warm amber eyes.Groaning, I sit up straight and check my phone, countless messages from Iris, Naya, Chiara,
Enrique:“Fix what you did.” Tyler growls, dropping a stack of heavy folders on my mahogany desk. “Else I quit as your beta, forever.”“I have every intention of fixing what I did.” I look up from my computer, before standing up. It has only been a few hours that Irene has left and I feel like utter shit. I even texted Hunter, asking for the progress of Irene, but dude won’t tell me, he says Irene needs her privacy, I just want to know if she’s alright. Fuck him.Tyler sighs when he looks at me. “Iris doesn’t want anything to do with me, just because you hurt her sister. She says she’s loyal to Irene; please just fix what you did.” He runs his hand through his hair, tugging at the strands. “I just want Iris back.”“And I want Irene back.” My sigh is much heavier; I walk towards the windows, pulling at the blinds. The flash of sunlight reflects in my face and I wince gently. Tyler joins me, though he’s frowning.“You are taking it too hard on yourself.” One hand rests on my shoulder, “
