The Proposal

Mark was speechless on hearing the last statement that came out of David's mouth, his face grew sour and he bite his lips in anger. His hands shook and his eyes were heavy with tears but he looked away and quickly wiped off his tears, he had never cried in the presence of anyone but he couldn't hold the pain and fury that burnt deep in his soul.

"you think I did what I did out of jealousy and greed?" he asked, he couldn't stare at his nephew, he wasn't ready to reveal his emotional side to the evil prick

"face me, uncle, look into my eyes and tell me you did what you did for other reasons" David ordered

"I will give you what you want but you will never step foot into my house, break this order and you might not live long to tell the tale" Mark warned

he called his cashier and requested a bulky transfer, David provided his details and the money dropped in at once, he smiled, knowing that he had fulfilled his plans with ease. Mark felt different emotions at once but kept his composure intact, he turned around after his face was back to its usual look

"you have gotten what you want, now leave my house!" Mark ordered

his bodyguards stepped out heavily armed to the teeth and they waited for the command of their master. David smiled and held Evelyn who had grown scared with the sudden turnaround of events.

"look at you being all-powerful, famous, and rich, enjoy it while you can because the war is just getting started, uncle" David threatened

"I'm honestly sorry for the woman you have dragged into your dirty game, she will forever live to regret knowing you" Mark replied and took a sip from his glass of wine

Evelyn stared at her husband with doubt but the trickster cleared her memory with a passionate kiss before they walked out majestically. Mark was deeply annoyed and without a second thought, he smashed his glass cup against the wall and took a deep breath.

Elena ate with delight as her stomach hadn't seen good food to eat for the past few days, she ate to her satisfaction and relaxed a bit, she was deeply troubled as her eyes were always on the door. Waiting to see what would happen next and as she kept staring, the door flung open at once, she was frightened to see Mark holding a white A4 paper with a dark pen, his facial expression wasn't friendly and as they stared at each other silently, he cleared his throat.

"what do you want now?" Elena asked

"I want to offer you a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, one that will make you rich, famous, and respected by everyone who disregarded you" he revealed

Elena was amazed, her eyes were filled with doubts, it all sounded so unreal to be rich and famous, she once worked as a banker but her ex-husband got her fired from the bank shortly after their marriage.

"how" she asked confusingly

"I want you to be my wife, the perfect woman to do my bidding without questions. This paper document is a contract and for the next two years, we will be married, touring and exploring this dark world together and after that, you will be given the sum of two hundred million dollars as a reward for your loyalty" Mark revealed and smiled, hoping she would comply immediately, the offer sounded too good to reject.

Elena was lost in thoughts as she stared at the A4 paper in his hand, her heart was racing and fear became her new master, she turned away as tears filled her eyes.

"why on earth would I ever get married to a man like you, I have heard what you do to the women in your life, how you abuse them and put an end to their misery without anyone having the guts to stand up to you" she screamed and threw her pillow at his face

Mark stood in shock, he had never done anything like that but how could he convince a woman who once lived under the roof of Lucifer?. His reputation had been ruined by his nephew, it was only a matter of time before he lost his superiority in the city. He took out the dressing chair, sat down, and crossed his legs, his eyes were on her alluring body.

"I have done no such thing, you have been fed with lies for years, everything the internet said about me are all lies, My dear nephew has been working hard all his life to sabotage my name and possibly end my life"

"I can never believe a man who took me from the streets and had me locked up in his house!" she screamed

"I did to protect you, you are special now and it would be the biggest mistake of your life to throw away this rare opportunity" Mark warned

"and out of the beautiful models in this city, why did you choose a wretched woman like me who can't even keep her husband?. I'm not qualified to be the wife of a feared billionaire like you, I'm nothing!" Elena revealed with tears rolling down her cheeks

Mark watched but remained silent, he stroked his beard and shook his head in pity,

"I'm going to be elected president of the Quine Group, the club of all the richest men in the world but to get that sacred position, I must be legally married. A model as my wife will rob me of that seat because the judges will see through my tricks" he paused to catch his breath

"you are the perfect woman to be my wife, when I become the president, I have superiority not over this city but over the full country. I will have the power to silence any company without a trace and as my wife, you will have the power to get your revenge on the man who made your world a living hell" he added

"all you have to do is sign these papers and I will change your life, your greatest fantasies will be accomplished"

Elena thought hard, she took the contract and stared at it for some minutes, her tears dropped on the A4 paper. Mark smiled secretly, knowing that his dream of becoming president of Quine Group was one step away but just as she held the pen, she confessed painfully

"I can't sign this contract, I'm sorry, I'm loyal to my husband and I will serve him until death crosses my path".
