Katana
When Alpha Damien asked me to leave, my heart somersaulted within my chest, causing me to gasp in fear.
Firstly, never in my wildest imagination did I think the moon goddess would pair me with an Alpha, especially not one who seemed at ease watching his mate die.
Knowing that he wasn't going to help me, I leaned against the wall for dear life, my trembling hands wrapped tightly around my stomach as tears fell down my cheeks at an unbearable speed.
A cold breeze swept through my skin and I shuddered violently, wrapping both of my arms securely around myself. Even if the moon goddess walked into this warehouse and went on her knees, begging the Alpha, I was certain he would never agree to mark me
With the last of my strength, I moved slowly through the aisles between the rows of shelves, heading towards the exit.
But my wolf screamed hoarsely at me. "Have you lost your goddamn mind! Go back to your mate and beg for your life!'"
I almost laughed at the irony. What mate would be so stone-hearted to watch as their partner's death played out right before their eyes? I ignored my wolf's desperate plea but paused at the door when I heard his voice.
"Wait!" he called out like a wounded beast.
My mum always says that hope is the key to survival as an Omega. It gives you energy, enables you to leave and it's the reason why we have coped all these years.
Making a U-turn, I rushed toward him, using my last strength, and collapsed at his feet, panting like a dog. But when I saw the flash of pain darting through his eyes, like the ripple of sheet lightning, my hope shattered.
"I um…" he cleared his throat, running a hand over his hair. "I could take you to the pack"s hospital. The doctors might do something to sustain you."
Violent tremors wracked my body that felt like my body was going to break open like a coconut struck with a hammer and hot tears streamed down my face.
"Your bite is the only cure to this virus, Alpha," I cried out in desperation. "If the hospital had medication for the virus, you think we wouldn't have gone through the entire procedure already?"
He looked up at the ceiling as if asking the moon goddess or anyone for guidance. And then he looked back down at me with such sad eyes, that I thought I would crumble underneath them.
My hands reached out to him, fingers grasping at the air in a plea for life. His strong, calloused fingers gripped my chin, lifting my head to meet his gaze, and the intoxicating scent of musk and desire filled the air.
"Don't give up on me, Alpha. Please! Let me live. We can figure everything out together."
He groaned, helping me to my feet. His touch was surprisingly gentle, contrasting with the gruffness of his words. "My actions have consequences. You're an omega, and it's forbidden for an alpha like myself to mark you."
"Please," I wept, my voice growing frantic. "Help me. I promise that after this, I'll disappear without a trace. I'll head outside the border and never step foot in here."
He shook his head. "It doesn't work like that. I can't risk breaking the laws and traditions that have kept our pack strong for generations."
In an instant, I understood how silly I was by asking him to help me. Why did I even consider that someone like the alpha would help me? He doesn't care about us omegas. None of them do.
But I didn't want to die. Dying was a terrifying idea, and I had a feeling that the world beyond was worse than the hell I was trapped in. I wanted to survive and not leave my mum.
The door swung open, and a tall, muscular male with sandy blonde hair tied in a ponytail stormed into the room. He approached us with a deep scowl, his green eyes radiating anger and disgust.
An animalistic growl escaped his throat when he saw the Alpha's hand on my back and our compromising position.
Without warning, he shoved me aside, casting a cold, hateful look in my direction. "Who's this wretch?" he sneered. "Is she trying to seduce my Alpha?"
Alpha Damien stepped away from me, pulling the other male away, communicating with him through their mind link.
The male gasped and his eyes widened like two boiled eggs disturbing me with his gaze.
"Fucking omega!" he muttered, rushing to grab my arm. "Listen, we don't care if you're dying. You're not the first, nor will you be the last to die. Get out and never come back."
Alpha Damien intervened harshly, warning the angry bull. "Leo, don't speak to a dying girl like that."
"She's an omega scum," he scoffed. "I don't owe her any respect. I'd rather burn down this pack than watch you mark her!"
Beads of sweat covered my body as I watched the tense exchange between the two males. Alpha Damien looked away, miserable and torn.
"I'm sorry, but you have to leave," he said, his voice barely above a whisper, as he backed away from me.
His rejection felt like a knife stabbing my throat, shattering the fragments of my heart. The moon goddess must truly hate me, because why else would she punish me like this?
With the last shred of dignity I had, my feet stumbled backward, and I fled the room, sobbing.
Once I exited the warehouse, I could smell the happiness and health of my friends in the air, and the relief in the eyes of their parents. It made me bitter and betrayed.
My wolf whimpered, knowing we were on the brink of death. There was no way to win against this accursed virus.
My mom was the first person to spot me. Excited, she rushed to hug me, kissing my forehead and whispering soothing words.
"How did it go, love?" she asked, a gentle smile on her lips. "You must be feeling better now. May the Alpha live forever."
I shuddered, letting out a choked cry that startled her.
"Katana," her voice trembled. "What's going on?"
I lowered myself to the floor, curling into a fetal position. "He…he…he didn't mark me," my voice broke, and "He wouldn't help me. I'm going to die."
My mum's eyes bulged in terror, unable to blink. She let out a hoarse scream, gasping for air after I informed her that the Alpha was my mate.
"I'm going to die," I repeated, my teeth chattering from the fever and pain. The other omegas rushed to our side, concerned and wondering what was happening.
My mum thrashed herself on the floor, weeping and inconsolable, unable to bear the sight of my suffering. The women tried to make her talk, but she was too sorrowful to speak.
The warehouse door swung open, and Alpha Damien, accompanied by his friend, stepped outside. He stopped moving and when I raised my head, his eyes probed to my very soul, like one giving me one last look.
His Beta, however, gave me a fevered stare like I was an enemy before pulling the Alpha away.
My mum, like a mad woman, ran after Alpha Damien, on her knees, weeping and pleading for mercy, but his Beta pushed her to the ground, sneering at her with contempt.
"Fucking omega!" he muttered, storming off and leaving my mother weeping on the ground.
My boyfriend, Zayn, who was now cured but unaware of the situation between me and the Alpha, rushed to me, attempting to hug me.
"Hey, champ! How did it...?" he began to ask but stopped, shocked that I was in tears.
He looked dazed, staring at my hands and legs.
"Why are you still shivering? Did the Alpha not bite you?" he asked, his voice filled with confusion. "And why are you crying?"
"He... he... he can't," I managed to say, my words coming out in a raspy whisper. "I'm going to die."
Zayn gasped. "What are you talking about?"
I hesitated, not wanting to reveal the truth of our forbidden mating bond.
When I didn't respond, a frown creased his forehead, and he took a step back. "I don't understand. Why didn't he bite you?" he continued to ask, a hint of hysteria in his voice.
Blindly, my mother ran to Elder Logan, begging him to intervene on her behalf. "She's all I've got. She's my only child," my mother cried. "Please save her!"
Never had I felt so small and worthless in my entire life. Shivering, Zayn led me to a chair. Damien's rejection had cut me deeply, and it was becoming too much to bear.
"Let me try, but I'm not promising anything," Elder Logan offered, and he headed toward the grand mansion.
"Alpha Damien is a bastard," Zayn blurted out, his hands clenched into fists while Amy, crying, hugged me. "I can't believe he can be so cold. This just shows that he doesn't care about us."
"Shut your mouth and keep your opinions to yourself," one of the elders warned. "Don't forget we're still on the Alpha's property, and we need his help."
We waited anxiously. I clung to the sliver of hope that remained within me, but it quickly faded away when Elder Logan returned, his vacant look betraying Alpha Damien's refusal to help. Panic seeped through my bones like rot as he spoke.
"He wants us to leave. He says he can't bite her," Elder Logan informed my mother. "I'm sorry."
Damien's POV Leo watched me refill a golden liquid of scotch whiskey into my glass for the twentieth time. "Are you trying to drown yourself?" He asked incredulously, sitting with his arms crossed. "What if I am?" I responded coldly. "It's none of your business." The scent of the whiskey filled my nostrils, burned its way down my throat and to my toes. I wanted my dying omega mate out of my mind, but the more I drank, the more her face plastered in my brain. Those huge, sky-blue eyes filled with tears, begging for her life, begging me to do the most natural act between mates. Yet, I watched her go. "I'm sure the girl must be dead by now," Leo said, sounding unconcerned. I didn't answer, but my wolf almost burst out of me, wanting to strangle Leo to death. I focused my gaze on the golden liquid, taking a long, slow finish, with the flavors lingering on my tongue. "Imagine what the council members will do if you'd marked that girl," Leo continued, lighting a cigar, the smoke f
Katana's POV My body heat was enough to boil the pillow on the hospital bed. Shivering and dying from the unbearable pain of the angry red sores that covered my body including my tongue, I wanted peace. The medication and antibiotics made my vision blurry. Every movement felt like my skin was scraped raw and I couldn't breathe right through my nose without feeling immense pain. Shifting was impossible because my wolf was dying within me. We were trapped in this hell, at the mercy of these wretched sores that mocked me with their stubborn refusal to heal. "We're doing everything we can," the pack doctor's voice snapped at my mom. "Don't blame the hospital when she eventually dies" I wanted to yell at him for making my mum cry. The sadist didn't even wish me well, but I couldn't move my lips. I shut my eyes instead, begging for the pain to end. Physically and emotionally drained, I wasn't sure how much longer I could take. When the alpha brought me to the hospital, my tongue strug
Damien I refused to declare my beloved aunt dead. This was surely a nasty joke of the universe. A cruel prank from the moon goddess. I released a bitter laugh because nothing made sense. I shook her body, begging her to come alive, but she remained still, peaceful,as if to mock the agony in my heart. As if she was playing a prank on me from beyond. My trembling fingers shut her vacant eyes, shielding her from the harshness of the room's light and my arms cradled her delicate body. It was too much for me to bear. Rocking her back and forth, I hoped that somehow, moving her would jolt her back to life. My aunt was gone and her death was my fault. Hera never fell sick. She was a healthy and robust woman, who went about her activities peacefully. She never liked to burden others with her problems; instead, she carried the weight of the world on her shoulders. I couldn't bear to lose her. She was my only remaining family after the loss of my parents. She had been a powerhouse of
Katana's POV Damien's car kicked up a dusty whirlwind, the exhaust shadowing behind, and a coolness ran down my backbone. My mum, in a panic, pinched her eyes shut and opened them. We exchanged silent looks watching the Alpha's car drive down the road, and gradually disappeared into the distance. "I'm not sure what to make of Damien's behavior," Mom trailed off, pulling on her scarf. "Do you think we're in trouble?" I shrugged, picking a smooth rock. "I don't know, Mum, but I have a feeling he's blaming me for his aunt's death, which is shocking, right?" My mum lowered her voice to a whisper. "What if it's true? Maybe your blood…" I flinched, uncomfortable with her statement. "She was sick when we came in, Mum. I can't believe you are agreeing with that foolish assumption," I grumbled, breathing out to calm my nerves. "You should be glad that I made it out alive and safe. Can we head to the tent?" My mum shot me a nasty look, shaking her hand in displeasure. "Child, you stink o
Katana The midnight fever descended on me, transporting me to another world full of scary ghosts, shadows, and a darkness that was just waiting to pounce upon me. This time around, I found myself in a forest haunted by ghosts of all ages, sizes, and types, kidnapping my mind and taking control of my body. I could hear their footsteps crunching over the ground behind me like a herd of hungry predators. My lungs constricted so tightly it felt as though they were going to explode A worrying dizziness almost knocked me to the ground and I realized with a shiver of panic that they were closer than I thought. Trembling at the haunting and fearful images of the moonlight casting shadows of skeletons that came to life, I screamed. The smell of death, chilled mist, and another strange smell my nose had no idea about rammed inside my nose, stinging and drowning my lungs. "Somebody help me!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. My voice echoed back and tall trees rose out of the earth, bru
Damien We gathered around Aunt Hera's final resting place, with a dark cloud of sorrow hanging above us. The cemetery was so quiet, with only the rustling of leaves in the wind and occasional mournful sniffles. I stood at the front of the grave, feeling lost and alone. It was upsetting to see Aunt Hera inside the casket, lifeless. We each held bunches of flowers as we stood in silence, paying our final respects. Penelope, Aunt Hera's adopted daughter, wept uncontrollably. I wrapped an arm around her, trying to comfort her as best I could. The mourners were gloomy. Leo, Isadora, and Anysia stood beside me. Xena and her husband held each other, with Xena sniffing into her handkerchief. My heart ached with grief. I remembered all the good times I had with Aunt Hera – her warm smile and infectious laugh, her meals that filled me, and her words of encouragement. "Being an Alpha is a giant responsibility," she'd always say. "Always remember to keep your friends close and your enemies
Katana I stood there, silent with my mouth opening and closing like a fish, not having an answer to his question. Zayn shook his head and scoffed. "You like him, don't you?" "Come on, Zayn, what is wrong with you? Can you stop making this more difficult than it is," I said, exasperated and tired of his accusations because my stupid wolf was mocking me. "Rules are rules, Zayn. Damien doesn't like me, and you shouldn't beat yourself up over him. Let's try to make the best of this situation." "Yeah right," he scoffed, angry and hurt, staring at me with disgust. I stared back at him without knowing what to say. Later that evening, a sea of omegas surged forward as we trudged along the dusty path, carrying our possessions on their backs or in hand-woven baskets on their heads. Little children held tightly onto their parents' hands and the elderly males and females who were bent and wrinkled shuffled along. A long line of people stretched into the distance as we went past the pack
Damien I stepped out of the omega house after a handful of them had gathered to express gratitude for my kindness. Responding with a nod, I walked away, heading back to the main pack house with a burden in my chest. My heart nursed my confusion and longing for Katana. At first, I lied to myself that I wasn't helping the omegas for Katana and assured myself I was going to put as much space between us as possible but I couldn't control myself and ended up in the omega kitchen in search of my mate. My body had become a slave to my need and the flaming desire for her burned bright but I couldn't have her. The distance between us was too wide to bridge.I couldn't belittle myself to mark an omega and end up losing the respect of my pack mates. But Katana's presence brought an animalistic hunger, filling me with raw need. I wanted her so badly that it manifested as physical pain. Unfortunately, our society's standards were like a stone wall separating us forever. A flashback of how
Alexis "Shit. That was close. He rasped out, his eyes glowing like a wildcat's and bulging with fear. "These bastards are mean and are out for us." "What are we going to do?" I said to Craig with my voice trembling. Craig grimaced, glancing outside the window, and swallowed hard, trying desperately to form coherent words. "I have no idea. But we have to stay here for now and run for our lives when this blows over. It's only a matter of time before they find us." "Fuck," Zarek winced while I paced frantically. Zarek broke the silence. "Are these buildings connected? They could destroy innocent lives while searching for us." "We need help," I said with every fiber in my body trembling nonstop. "We cannot do this on our own. They have outnumbered us." Craig turned to face me, his face congested with fear "Alexis, you have to stay here for now. I don't want you to get hurt." "Stay here?" I gasped, my eyes doubling in size. "Are you kidding me? I can't and I won't leave your si
Alexis My heart was racing so fast. I heard Craig and Zarek coming up, and I composed myself, watching them enter the room, laughing. Craig came to my side and knelt in front of me, kissing my stomach, and Zarek looked away. "How do you feel now? Better?" Craig said, concerned. I shook my head in a no, and Craig frowned. "Do you want me to get you something?" I got on my feet. "Craig, I called my dad," I blurted. "He thinks we are not safe, and is on his way to get me." Craig cursed under his breath. "We need to leave," he said firmly. "I don't trust your dad." "Come on, Craig. My dad may be an enemy to you, but he's my father. He's going to help us." Just as I made that statement, we heard a commotion downstairs, as if a riot was taking place. My heart skipped so fast. "Did you hear that?" I whispered to Craig. My breathing became raspy, and my lips trembled with fear. "I think they are here," Craig trembled and grabbed the bag where the staff was. Zarek rushed to the windo
Alexis Dora had warned us to be very careful and lay low because Dimitri had informants everywhere. It was even dangerous for us to call her, as Dimitri could trace the call and hurt her. Craig couldn't sleep and kept thinking the worst. Zarek joined us the next day and my thoughts were filled with self-loathing and the nagging urge to ask for my dad's help tugged in my heartstrings. But it was very unlikely that my dad, a werewolf, would help Craig and the vampire king. The possibility was almost impossible. He was never going to hand that staff to me. I could sense the frustration in Craig's eyes. He was like a locked-up bull, searching for a means of escape. He had stopped smiling, answering questions with minimal responses, and kept sighing constantly. He seemed to prefer talking to Zarek more than me, and that infuriated me because he made me feel like I had betrayed him in some way. And he poured out his frustration when I asked Dora how Oliver was doing. "I've warned
Alexis Craig's lips kissed my throat up before capturing my lips, and our breaths fused into our mouths. I was in divine ecstasy, and my wolf almost threatened to come out of my body. Our kiss was raw, rough, sloppy, and filled with weeks of longing and a mountain of passion. He went hard, soft, then hard again, and I had no desire to back out. Burying my hands into his thick hair, I let him scoop me up, nibbling his lips. Our kisses were messy because of my tears and the world disappeared around me. I pulled away, staring into his eyes with so much love. "I can't believe I'm seeing you. I hope someone doesn't wake me up if this is a dream." "It's me," he said. His voice thickened with emotion. "I'm here in flesh and blood." A comfortable silence settled between us and we exchanged glances, smiling. His gaze was mad with lust and molten desire, and a raging beast of need was in his eyes. "I dreamt of this day for weeks,"he whispered, kissing my neck and making my knees loosen.
Alexis One week later My heart pounded like a frightened bird, racing to escape, as I ran through the night. The darkness was consuming, making the hairs on my nape raise with raw fear, but I moved swiftly along, ignoring my rising panic. Oliver confessed to Dora and agreed to help us. I was heading to a vampire coven, so I couldn't shift into my wolf. Several nasty thoughts kept flying in, causing me to get frightened beyond measure, but I put a fire under my feet, attempting to lighten my mood with the hope of seeing Craig tonight. "I'll see Craig tonight," I chanted like a mantra. I hastened because it was almost midnight. The hotel Oliver recommended didn't seem to be popular. I stopped to take a breath when I began seeing spots in my vision and closed my eyes, taking a deep breath to regain control. A stray cat darted behind me, sending chills down my spine. I sighed in relief when I burst out onto a surprisingly busy street with half-naked girls and men who couldn't walk
Alexis I edged closer to Dora until our eyes met. Dora held her head high and a broad smile graced her lips.My curiosity heightened, wondering what she wanted from me, considering that we had only met once. There was only one way to find out, but something in me suspected Craig sent her, but why would he when we’d gotten back together? "Hi," I formed a cheeky smile, hugging her. "What a surprise to see you here." "Hello, Alexis, right? I can never forget your name, considering how my boy never stops gushing about you," she said and hugged me back. When she pulled away, she stared at me with kind, observant eyes. The clouds darkened and it began to drizzle."You might want to come into the hall," I said to her. We found a secluded corner in the empty hall and sat opposite each other. Silence settled on us like mist, filling the air. I waited for her to speak but she didn't, making me uncomfortable. "Does Craig know you are here?" I managed to say. She let out a soft chuckle
Alexis Confusion was an understatement for how I felt right now. My spirit was in chaos. I couldn't believe that Craig had asked me for my forgiveness and wanted me back, even though I ended up whacking his face, which I had the right to, after all, he'd put me through. Something was off, no doubt. Yet, I couldn't deny that I still loved him. Our brief relationship brought me back to life in ways I'd never imagined. I lay on Tara's bunk, staring off into mid-distance at the star design on her ceiling, lost in thought. I didn't want to be involved in a game of back and forth where I would be easily swayed by Craig's seduction. I wasn't that stupid. Tara didn't see a big deal in Craig wanting to come back to me. "It was bound to happen," she chuckled, scooping the last of her vanilla ice cream."I know you don't see it that way, but I knew his relationship with Beverly was not going to last." "I'm not buying that bullshit," I sighed. "I know something triggered him to ask for my f
Craig Days and nights passed, and I was still trapped in Bloodline Manor like a helpless butterfly, but I had completely healed and grown stronger. My desperation grew by the second. I wondered what was going on in the outside world. Dimitri hadn't come to threaten me in days. For sure, he was surely up to something sinister. My only companion was a damn diary where I scribbled all my plans to escape, waiting for the perfect time to hatch my plan. I was staring at a cow giving birth. The mother lay exhausted on the ground after pushing her calves far enough out. She was too weak to stand and the smell of its dung and blood was strong enough to kill, but the cows were the only distractions I had because I was so close to going insane. I loved video games and being with my phone. Not having that luxury was killing me. My ears perched when someone knocked on my door. "It's open," I said flatly. Anna, who was the only innocent person in this manor because she had no idea I was s
Oliver I winced, rubbing my stinging cheek. The force of Alexis's slap remained. I deserved it for being so stupid to think she'd jump on me like a lovestruck puppy after I asked for her forgiveness or be easily manipulated without questioning me. Rooted on the spot, I watched her walk away, cursing under my breath. The girl was petite but bold and hostile. Thanks to that bastard, Dimitri, I'd received an unwarranted slap. My shoulders sagged like a deflated balloon. Dimitri forced me to gather information from Craig's friends, including his girlfriend, about the staff of authority. I had two days to come up with something, and the consequences of not getting sufficient information would be brutal. But how could I ask them a string of questions without them becoming suspicious? Craig's friends, especially Zarek, were discerning and were beginning to sniff my fakery. It was a miracle that I hadn't gotten caught at this point. "Oliver, you're a man. I didn't raise you a coward!"
