Katana's POV
My body heat was enough to boil the pillow on the hospital bed. Shivering and dying from the unbearable pain of the angry red sores that covered my body including my tongue, I wanted peace.
The medication and antibiotics made my vision blurry. Every movement felt like my skin was scraped raw and I couldn't breathe right through my nose without feeling immense pain.
Shifting was impossible because my wolf was dying within me. We were trapped in this hell, at the mercy of these wretched sores that mocked me with their stubborn refusal to heal.
"We're doing everything we can," the pack doctor's voice snapped at my mom. "Don't blame the hospital when she eventually dies"
I wanted to yell at him for making my mum cry. The sadist didn't even wish me well, but I couldn't move my lips. I shut my eyes instead, begging for the pain to end.
Physically and emotionally drained, I wasn't sure how much longer I could take. When the alpha brought me to the hospital, my tongue struggled to call him a heartless fool.
"Rest now," the doctor flashed me a cold smile while my mom perched on a chair beside me, taking my hand in hers.
"I have failed you, my child "
I looked up at her, regretting ever stepping foot in Wild Oaks. My mom sniffled, squeezing my hand. "I won't give up on you. The omegas are praying fervently for you. Zayn is on the premises. He stepped out to get some water for us."
My chest tightened with guilt at the mention of Zayn's name. It was sad that the mating bond was reserved for Damien, someone who left me for dead.
I heard footsteps and saw Zayn walking in, approaching my bedside with a paper bag with a vacant gaze. The sadness in his eyes made me feel worse.
"I'm sorry, Katana," he said softly, taking my hand in his. "We're doing everything to keep you alive."
Looking up at him, I wanted to believe him, but the pain and fever were making it hard to think clearly.
"I don't understand why he refuses to mark her," Zayn snapped angrily.
My mum's lips trembled, "They're mates."
Silence filled the room as the weight of the situation sank into Zayn's head. My heart hurt for him. He gasped in shock, his eyes wide as saucers.
"What do you mean they're mates? How can they be mates and he's letting her die?"
Helplessly, I watched him react, confused as a new emotion flashed past his expression: amusement.
He laughed so loudly that I almost jumped out of my skin. Why was he laughing at a time like this, when I was lying on my deathbed, struggling to survive?
The fever hit me at a high pitch. I shivered uncontrollably as sweat poured down my face as the accursed virus sapped the last of my strength.
"Well, maybe he's doing the right thing," Zayn coughed, trying to contain his laughter. "If you know what I mean."
My mum yelled at him to get out. I couldn't believe my ears. Zayn was acting so selfish, thinking only of his own needs and desires.
May the gods strike you, Zayn.

My mum woke me from a restless sleep. When when I woke up to the sound of Alpha Damien's baritone voice, my heart skipped a thousand beats.
He was there, standing beside my bedside and talking to my mum.
Our eyes met and held. Despite the sickness, something intense flared in my heart. When he cradled me in his arms, he unhooked my heart and soul.
"I have an aunt with alpha blood," he said softly to me, lifting me off the bed. "I'm taking you to her."
My mum's eyes sparkled with tears. The Alpha carried me bridal style to his car in the parking lot and drove like a maniac to a brick mansion, nestled in the hills.
A maid who was just waking up met us at the door. "Alpha Damien?" She gasped, stunned to see him.
"Send Hera downstairs right now."
She remained silent, blinking like a dumbfounded owl.
"Now!" Damien demanded.
"Long live the Alpha," the maid bowed. "Hera is having issues getting on her feet."
Damien growled with rage so intense that I could feel it. "And you didn't think it wise to inform me?"
The maid stuttered in fear, wiping her hands on her apron. Pushing past her, he raced up the stairs with me.
In the master bedroom, an old, graying woman donned in a white cotton nightie, lay upon a king-sized bed that was draped in white sheets.
She looked like an angel with her eyes partially closed, and her chest rising and falling in a slow, shallow rhythm, monitored by the wires attached to her body.
Despite her peaceful appearance, she looked deathly pale. Damien went completely still and rigid with shock. The woman noticed our presence and opened her eyes, her lips parting in surprise to see us. Damien dropped me on the bed and made me sit up before rushing to her side.
"Hera! What happened to you?Why didn't you tell me you were sick?"
"Damien, my darling, what a pleasant surprise," she chuckled, her eyes lighting with joy. She signalled for him to come closer. Gently, she raised herself, propping herself against the pillows.
"Why bother you about the sickness of an old woman? And who's this beauty?"
Damien shifted uneasily between me and Hera, as though he was conflicted about telling her about me.
"Never mind," he cleared his throat. "She's no one."
My heart sank.
"Son, I can spot your lies a mile away," she chuckled, her eyes shining with a fondness for Damien.
"You're ill, Hera," Damien said, his voice heavy with sadness as he reached out and took her hand. "I need to take care of you and not burden you with any more responsibility."
"I'm fine, really," she smiled weakly, her eyes shining with a fondness for him. Despite her words, his face was lined with worry.
"You're overreacting," the old woman grinned. "No one lives forever. Besides, all my friends and siblings are dead."
"Don't say that," Damien said firmly. "You're all I've got and I'll do everything to keep you alive."
Her eyes searched his face and she kissed him on his forehead and urged him to speak. After much reluctance, Damien told her I was dying and I needed someone with Alpha blood to bite me.
She sat up slowly, watching me. My heart raced with terror. What if she refused to help an Omega?
When her eyes twinkled, I knew there was hope. "Damien, you're the Alpha. Why didn't you bite her?"
"I can't mark her, Hera. She's uh… she's my mate."
Hera's eyes widened in surprise as she stared into my soul. Then a smile reached her eyes and I felt an instant warmth towards her.
She opened her mouth to speak, however, her words quickly turned into a series of hacking coughs that wracked her body.
Her face contorted with pain as the coughs shook her frail body. Damien rushed to give her some water, rubbing her back until the cough died down.
She lay on the pillows, her breaths coming in slow, shallow gasps. She turned to me with a smile on her face, and her eyes shone.
"I've been waiting for this day," her voice filled with excitement. "You have come to the right place, and I will help."
"Are you sure?" Damien asked, concerned "You're not..."
"Bring her closer," she ordered him firmly.
A shiver ran down my spine when her trembling hands reached out to touch me. With a gentle touch, she pulled my hair to the side, exposing my neck. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, bracing myself for the moment.
Her cold lips kissed my neck at first, then her teeth grazed my skin in a gentle caress. It was not painful, but I felt a rush of adrenaline as I waited for something to happen.
Damien's light hazel eyes were intense and focused on me. Despite the cool air, beads of sweat formed on his face.
At first, I didn't feel anything. But after a few seconds, the sickness began to dissipate, as though a heavy weight was lifted from my body.
Energy and life returned to me in seconds, so fast that it felt like a dream. My breathing eased and tears prickled at the corners of my eyes.
Hera opened her arms wide, inviting me into a hug. I stepped into her embrace, feeling the warmth of her arms surrounding me. She smelled like baby powder.
I felt a tingling warmth in my heart, a feeling of gratitude for this kind woman who had given me a second chance at life.
Damien smiled a small, relieved grin that lit up his face. His eyes captured mine, and I looked away, annoyed that the moon goddess paired me with someone who'd have watched their mate die and more annoyed with myself for the ache in my heart whenever his gaze met mine.
My wolf scolded me for my ungrateful thoughts.
Hera's eyes swept over me, her gaze filled with approval. She leaned in close and whispered into my ear."Be strong for what's to come."
Confused, I didn't understand what she was talking about. Did the bite have consequences?
Our eyes met, and I tried to read the meaning in her eyes, but she only smiled and turned to Damien, hugging him tightly in a warm embrace. She pressed a gentle kiss to his forehead.
She pulled away from Damien and slowly lowered herself onto the bed. Damien clasped her hands.
"Do you feel fine? Or do you need me to send for the pack doctor?"
She smiled, took a long breath, and shut her eyes.
Damien crouched beside her while I stood, watching. For a moment, she lay still, her chest rising and falling in a slow, steady rhythm. But then, with a final exhale, her body went limp and the heart monitors let out a long, steady beep.
Damien's face contorted with shock. He reached out and shook her body, calling her name in a desperate plea.
"Hera! What are you doing? Wake up!"
He gently shook her shoulders but she remained motionless. Something was so wrong about this. I wasn't sick anymore but I shivered at the sight.
Damien leaned in closer, his ear pressed to her chest. Then he let out a choked sob, his body shaking with grief. He clutched her hand, his fingers tight around hers, and with eyes filled with tears, he looked up at me.
"She's dead."
Damien I refused to declare my beloved aunt dead. This was surely a nasty joke of the universe. A cruel prank from the moon goddess. I released a bitter laugh because nothing made sense. I shook her body, begging her to come alive, but she remained still, peaceful,as if to mock the agony in my heart. As if she was playing a prank on me from beyond. My trembling fingers shut her vacant eyes, shielding her from the harshness of the room's light and my arms cradled her delicate body. It was too much for me to bear. Rocking her back and forth, I hoped that somehow, moving her would jolt her back to life. My aunt was gone and her death was my fault. Hera never fell sick. She was a healthy and robust woman, who went about her activities peacefully. She never liked to burden others with her problems; instead, she carried the weight of the world on her shoulders. I couldn't bear to lose her. She was my only remaining family after the loss of my parents. She had been a powerhouse of
Katana's POV Damien's car kicked up a dusty whirlwind, the exhaust shadowing behind, and a coolness ran down my backbone. My mum, in a panic, pinched her eyes shut and opened them. We exchanged silent looks watching the Alpha's car drive down the road, and gradually disappeared into the distance. "I'm not sure what to make of Damien's behavior," Mom trailed off, pulling on her scarf. "Do you think we're in trouble?" I shrugged, picking a smooth rock. "I don't know, Mum, but I have a feeling he's blaming me for his aunt's death, which is shocking, right?" My mum lowered her voice to a whisper. "What if it's true? Maybe your blood…" I flinched, uncomfortable with her statement. "She was sick when we came in, Mum. I can't believe you are agreeing with that foolish assumption," I grumbled, breathing out to calm my nerves. "You should be glad that I made it out alive and safe. Can we head to the tent?" My mum shot me a nasty look, shaking her hand in displeasure. "Child, you stink o
Katana The midnight fever descended on me, transporting me to another world full of scary ghosts, shadows, and a darkness that was just waiting to pounce upon me. This time around, I found myself in a forest haunted by ghosts of all ages, sizes, and types, kidnapping my mind and taking control of my body. I could hear their footsteps crunching over the ground behind me like a herd of hungry predators. My lungs constricted so tightly it felt as though they were going to explode A worrying dizziness almost knocked me to the ground and I realized with a shiver of panic that they were closer than I thought. Trembling at the haunting and fearful images of the moonlight casting shadows of skeletons that came to life, I screamed. The smell of death, chilled mist, and another strange smell my nose had no idea about rammed inside my nose, stinging and drowning my lungs. "Somebody help me!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. My voice echoed back and tall trees rose out of the earth, bru
Damien We gathered around Aunt Hera's final resting place, with a dark cloud of sorrow hanging above us. The cemetery was so quiet, with only the rustling of leaves in the wind and occasional mournful sniffles. I stood at the front of the grave, feeling lost and alone. It was upsetting to see Aunt Hera inside the casket, lifeless. We each held bunches of flowers as we stood in silence, paying our final respects. Penelope, Aunt Hera's adopted daughter, wept uncontrollably. I wrapped an arm around her, trying to comfort her as best I could. The mourners were gloomy. Leo, Isadora, and Anysia stood beside me. Xena and her husband held each other, with Xena sniffing into her handkerchief. My heart ached with grief. I remembered all the good times I had with Aunt Hera – her warm smile and infectious laugh, her meals that filled me, and her words of encouragement. "Being an Alpha is a giant responsibility," she'd always say. "Always remember to keep your friends close and your enemies
Katana I stood there, silent with my mouth opening and closing like a fish, not having an answer to his question. Zayn shook his head and scoffed. "You like him, don't you?" "Come on, Zayn, what is wrong with you? Can you stop making this more difficult than it is," I said, exasperated and tired of his accusations because my stupid wolf was mocking me. "Rules are rules, Zayn. Damien doesn't like me, and you shouldn't beat yourself up over him. Let's try to make the best of this situation." "Yeah right," he scoffed, angry and hurt, staring at me with disgust. I stared back at him without knowing what to say. Later that evening, a sea of omegas surged forward as we trudged along the dusty path, carrying our possessions on their backs or in hand-woven baskets on their heads. Little children held tightly onto their parents' hands and the elderly males and females who were bent and wrinkled shuffled along. A long line of people stretched into the distance as we went past the pack
Damien I stepped out of the omega house after a handful of them had gathered to express gratitude for my kindness. Responding with a nod, I walked away, heading back to the main pack house with a burden in my chest. My heart nursed my confusion and longing for Katana. At first, I lied to myself that I wasn't helping the omegas for Katana and assured myself I was going to put as much space between us as possible but I couldn't control myself and ended up in the omega kitchen in search of my mate. My body had become a slave to my need and the flaming desire for her burned bright but I couldn't have her. The distance between us was too wide to bridge.I couldn't belittle myself to mark an omega and end up losing the respect of my pack mates. But Katana's presence brought an animalistic hunger, filling me with raw need. I wanted her so badly that it manifested as physical pain. Unfortunately, our society's standards were like a stone wall separating us forever. A flashback of how
Katana's POV I woke up to the sound of loud bells that pierced through the peaceful silence of the room. Groaning loudly, I rubbed my eyes, shaking off the sleepy fog that clouded my mind. The softness of the bed cushioned my body, and I realized with a start that I hadn't slept so soundly in a long time. But the joy of a good night's rest was short-lived when I figured that the bells signaled the start of the compulsory pack run that my mother had told me about the night before. My heart beat hard against my chest, and I thought of escaping or hiding, but my mum was up, giving me a knowing smile. "Mum, do I have to go? You know I hate running." "It's compulsory, sweetie. You of all people should know that. It's still too early for us to have problems with our leaders." I collapsed on the bed, knowing I'd have to face Alpha Damien during the run and the thought alone caused an ache in the back of my throat. The other pack members buzzed with excitement, rushing to get ready fo
Katana Shocked, I couldn't believe what I was hearing and I tried to process the news that my mate already had a pregnant girlfriend. The reality of the situation hit me like a ton of bricks, and my heart ached. Why would the moon goddess pair me with someone who was already taken? Zayn, sensing my discomfort immediately stood up and shouted at the elder. "This is bullshit!" he yelled, his fists clenched at his sides. "There's no way I'm letting Katana clean the Alpha's quarters and serve his girlfriend!" Elder Logan laughed and Elder Quinton shook his head, a look of amusement on his face. "Zayn, your stubbornness would land you in deep trouble one day. The distribution of morning duty can't be changed. We all have to do our part and serve the pack so we don't get into trouble. Besides, the Alpha won't look at your girlfriend a second time. She's not his type." "Yeah right! " Zayn scoffed and walked away, cursing loudly. The thought of being close to the Alpha, serving him a
Alexis "Shit. That was close. He rasped out, his eyes glowing like a wildcat's and bulging with fear. "These bastards are mean and are out for us." "What are we going to do?" I said to Craig with my voice trembling. Craig grimaced, glancing outside the window, and swallowed hard, trying desperately to form coherent words. "I have no idea. But we have to stay here for now and run for our lives when this blows over. It's only a matter of time before they find us." "Fuck," Zarek winced while I paced frantically. Zarek broke the silence. "Are these buildings connected? They could destroy innocent lives while searching for us." "We need help," I said with every fiber in my body trembling nonstop. "We cannot do this on our own. They have outnumbered us." Craig turned to face me, his face congested with fear "Alexis, you have to stay here for now. I don't want you to get hurt." "Stay here?" I gasped, my eyes doubling in size. "Are you kidding me? I can't and I won't leave your si
Alexis My heart was racing so fast. I heard Craig and Zarek coming up, and I composed myself, watching them enter the room, laughing. Craig came to my side and knelt in front of me, kissing my stomach, and Zarek looked away. "How do you feel now? Better?" Craig said, concerned. I shook my head in a no, and Craig frowned. "Do you want me to get you something?" I got on my feet. "Craig, I called my dad," I blurted. "He thinks we are not safe, and is on his way to get me." Craig cursed under his breath. "We need to leave," he said firmly. "I don't trust your dad." "Come on, Craig. My dad may be an enemy to you, but he's my father. He's going to help us." Just as I made that statement, we heard a commotion downstairs, as if a riot was taking place. My heart skipped so fast. "Did you hear that?" I whispered to Craig. My breathing became raspy, and my lips trembled with fear. "I think they are here," Craig trembled and grabbed the bag where the staff was. Zarek rushed to the windo
Alexis Dora had warned us to be very careful and lay low because Dimitri had informants everywhere. It was even dangerous for us to call her, as Dimitri could trace the call and hurt her. Craig couldn't sleep and kept thinking the worst. Zarek joined us the next day and my thoughts were filled with self-loathing and the nagging urge to ask for my dad's help tugged in my heartstrings. But it was very unlikely that my dad, a werewolf, would help Craig and the vampire king. The possibility was almost impossible. He was never going to hand that staff to me. I could sense the frustration in Craig's eyes. He was like a locked-up bull, searching for a means of escape. He had stopped smiling, answering questions with minimal responses, and kept sighing constantly. He seemed to prefer talking to Zarek more than me, and that infuriated me because he made me feel like I had betrayed him in some way. And he poured out his frustration when I asked Dora how Oliver was doing. "I've warned
Alexis Craig's lips kissed my throat up before capturing my lips, and our breaths fused into our mouths. I was in divine ecstasy, and my wolf almost threatened to come out of my body. Our kiss was raw, rough, sloppy, and filled with weeks of longing and a mountain of passion. He went hard, soft, then hard again, and I had no desire to back out. Burying my hands into his thick hair, I let him scoop me up, nibbling his lips. Our kisses were messy because of my tears and the world disappeared around me. I pulled away, staring into his eyes with so much love. "I can't believe I'm seeing you. I hope someone doesn't wake me up if this is a dream." "It's me," he said. His voice thickened with emotion. "I'm here in flesh and blood." A comfortable silence settled between us and we exchanged glances, smiling. His gaze was mad with lust and molten desire, and a raging beast of need was in his eyes. "I dreamt of this day for weeks,"he whispered, kissing my neck and making my knees loosen.
Alexis One week later My heart pounded like a frightened bird, racing to escape, as I ran through the night. The darkness was consuming, making the hairs on my nape raise with raw fear, but I moved swiftly along, ignoring my rising panic. Oliver confessed to Dora and agreed to help us. I was heading to a vampire coven, so I couldn't shift into my wolf. Several nasty thoughts kept flying in, causing me to get frightened beyond measure, but I put a fire under my feet, attempting to lighten my mood with the hope of seeing Craig tonight. "I'll see Craig tonight," I chanted like a mantra. I hastened because it was almost midnight. The hotel Oliver recommended didn't seem to be popular. I stopped to take a breath when I began seeing spots in my vision and closed my eyes, taking a deep breath to regain control. A stray cat darted behind me, sending chills down my spine. I sighed in relief when I burst out onto a surprisingly busy street with half-naked girls and men who couldn't walk
Alexis I edged closer to Dora until our eyes met. Dora held her head high and a broad smile graced her lips.My curiosity heightened, wondering what she wanted from me, considering that we had only met once. There was only one way to find out, but something in me suspected Craig sent her, but why would he when we’d gotten back together? "Hi," I formed a cheeky smile, hugging her. "What a surprise to see you here." "Hello, Alexis, right? I can never forget your name, considering how my boy never stops gushing about you," she said and hugged me back. When she pulled away, she stared at me with kind, observant eyes. The clouds darkened and it began to drizzle."You might want to come into the hall," I said to her. We found a secluded corner in the empty hall and sat opposite each other. Silence settled on us like mist, filling the air. I waited for her to speak but she didn't, making me uncomfortable. "Does Craig know you are here?" I managed to say. She let out a soft chuckle
Alexis Confusion was an understatement for how I felt right now. My spirit was in chaos. I couldn't believe that Craig had asked me for my forgiveness and wanted me back, even though I ended up whacking his face, which I had the right to, after all, he'd put me through. Something was off, no doubt. Yet, I couldn't deny that I still loved him. Our brief relationship brought me back to life in ways I'd never imagined. I lay on Tara's bunk, staring off into mid-distance at the star design on her ceiling, lost in thought. I didn't want to be involved in a game of back and forth where I would be easily swayed by Craig's seduction. I wasn't that stupid. Tara didn't see a big deal in Craig wanting to come back to me. "It was bound to happen," she chuckled, scooping the last of her vanilla ice cream."I know you don't see it that way, but I knew his relationship with Beverly was not going to last." "I'm not buying that bullshit," I sighed. "I know something triggered him to ask for my f
Craig Days and nights passed, and I was still trapped in Bloodline Manor like a helpless butterfly, but I had completely healed and grown stronger. My desperation grew by the second. I wondered what was going on in the outside world. Dimitri hadn't come to threaten me in days. For sure, he was surely up to something sinister. My only companion was a damn diary where I scribbled all my plans to escape, waiting for the perfect time to hatch my plan. I was staring at a cow giving birth. The mother lay exhausted on the ground after pushing her calves far enough out. She was too weak to stand and the smell of its dung and blood was strong enough to kill, but the cows were the only distractions I had because I was so close to going insane. I loved video games and being with my phone. Not having that luxury was killing me. My ears perched when someone knocked on my door. "It's open," I said flatly. Anna, who was the only innocent person in this manor because she had no idea I was s
Oliver I winced, rubbing my stinging cheek. The force of Alexis's slap remained. I deserved it for being so stupid to think she'd jump on me like a lovestruck puppy after I asked for her forgiveness or be easily manipulated without questioning me. Rooted on the spot, I watched her walk away, cursing under my breath. The girl was petite but bold and hostile. Thanks to that bastard, Dimitri, I'd received an unwarranted slap. My shoulders sagged like a deflated balloon. Dimitri forced me to gather information from Craig's friends, including his girlfriend, about the staff of authority. I had two days to come up with something, and the consequences of not getting sufficient information would be brutal. But how could I ask them a string of questions without them becoming suspicious? Craig's friends, especially Zarek, were discerning and were beginning to sniff my fakery. It was a miracle that I hadn't gotten caught at this point. "Oliver, you're a man. I didn't raise you a coward!"
