Maliyah
It’s dark as far as my eyes can see. There is nothing here. I thought we would wake up as soon as we left Malayah and now I want nothing more than to go back to her.
“Terra?”
“I don’t know Maliyah. I am just as confused as you are. I thought we would wake up.”
“Look there is a light. Should we follow it?”
“We’ve got no where else to,” says Terra.
We slowly walk towards the light. As we let it swallow us whole we find ourselves at the high school. There are kids everywhere running around and goofing off. Some are grabbing books for their next class while others are making out with their boyfriends.
“Terra? Is this another vision? I definitely don’t feel like we are awake.”
“I believe it is Maliyah.”
“Is that us?”
It obviously is me, but older. My hair i
MaliyahWell so much for wishes coming true. This can’t be happening. I find myself again at the high school. Same kids are running around and goofing off. Same students are grabbing books and same students are making out. I really don’t want to have to watch this over and over again. It would be like in my own personal hell.I see myself again, where the same outfit, I have my hair in a braid and my make up is perfect. Those same boys are messing around and throwing food. A force field goes up like last time but I notice it’s not me doing it.“Get lost.”I smile as I see Aspen walking towards me and pulls me into an embrace. He snakes his hand into my hair before kissing me. It’s not a short kiss either, it’s passionate and hot. I wish I could describe it better, but I’ve never been kissed. I have no idea what that would feel like.
Aspen“Who is here,” asks Davina.“Alastor.”Davina has such worry in her eyes. He has sent his little minions over several times but has never came himself. Something feels wrong about this situation.“Mother already has the children locked down with Daniela. Katerina and Kale are outside with the warriors. Gabriel and Dimitri are putting up a protection shield as we speak.”“Mark time to let the Lycan’s out,” says Derek.“Go Derek, I’ll be fine.”“I’ll stay with them Derek.”We nod at each other as he leaves. I can tell Davina is worried that she is in no condition to fight, leaving her sister to fight their brother alone. I find this attack odd. It’s just him. No rogues, no witches, just him.“What is on your mind,” asks Davina through a contraction pain.I
AspenThe minute I dive into Maliyah’s mind I am surrounded by darkness. Normally I have entered a memory but not this time. I can feel she is close I just don’t know exactly where. I close my eyes and let my sense take over, trying to feel her presence. I hear her let out a cry and start running in what I am sure is her direction. I don’t think I’ve ever been so happy to see her as she comes into view.“Maliyah!”As I get closer I see her dragon, Terra, is in chains and she is struggling to break free. There are two warlocks fighting against Maliyah and she is holding her own well. I push myself harder and tackle a warlock, immediately snapping his neck. His body disappears, leaving only one left.I turn with my bow in hand, pointing at the other warlock, to find the other warlock has Maliyah in his grasp. He has an arm around her neck and is preparing a spell with his o
Davina“Damn it Maliyah! Open your eyes,” yells Aspen as he starts to perform CPR on my daughter.“Luna!?”I am in shock. I am struggling to focus on my labor as I am too worried about Maliyah. She can’t die, not after holding on for so long.“Luna! You need to push now!”“Come on love push. I’m right here.”I finally snap out of it and begin pushing as instructed. My world is crumbling right before my eyes. I can’t lose one child as I give birth to another. He can’t take them both from me. Derek is pouting nonsense next to me as I lock my gaze on Maliyah.“Damn it Maliyah, don’t you dare quit on me now,” growls out Aspen.“Push Luna!”I have to snap my focus away from Maliyah to push my son out. My heart is racing and I&rsq
MaliyahIt’s been about three days since I woke up. Dr. Ase insists I still rest and use a wheelchair for the time being. I’ve been doing physical therapy but it’s mostly just stretches and mild strength training. Dr. Ase says I am not strong enough to walk yet which I think is a load of crap but I promised Aspen to listen to the doctor.Everyone has been tip toeing around me, especially after I snapped saying I didn’t want to celebrate my birthday. I just didn’t feel like it. I also don’t get straight answers to my questions and I still have yet to see uncle Owen. I really need to speak with him. I feel like there was something important I needed to tell dad about auntie Keila but I’m drawing a blank.“Penny for your thoughts?”I look up to find Aspen. He helps me out of the chair and places me in the grass. He knows I prefer to feel the earth under me
DavinaI thought we were done with betrayals. I thought the remaining pack members were loyal. If elder Franklin could fool Aspen who is to stay there aren’t more like him? I know I am starting to get paranoid but I feel like I can’t trust anyone.“Calm down Davina. Just because we have another traitor doesn’t mean everyone is,” says Derek.“I can’t help but worry Derek. Your sister got killed, who is next?”“I know you are worried love. The twins and Aiden will have guards with them at all times, Maliyah too. If Aspen isn’t with her a warrior will be.”Derek and I arrive in front of the cells. I can feel his body tremble with anger. We thought it was his uncle or my brother’s fault for Keila’s death but it was someone much closer to home. Someone we trusted. Derek opens the doors and we can hear yelling.“You
Maliyah After the execution I asked Aspen to take me to visit Malayah’s graves. I’ll want to stop my aunt Keila’s and uncle Owen’s as well but I need to see Malayah first. I am upset that I didn’t get to attend her funeral but I understand at the same time. They couldn’t just leave her like that. When we arrive in front of her grave, I set down her favorite flowers, pink dahlia’s. I can see dad planted dahlia’s near her grave. Aspen sets me down in the grass and takes a seat with me. A few more memories have resurfaced recently and I have been waiting to get Aspen alone. I am not sure I want to talk to my parents about this yet. “You’ve had that look all day Maliyah. What is it?” I quickly avoid Aspen’s gaze. I am not sure I want to talk about this to him as well. “Maybe he can help,” says Terra, encouraging me. “I….I know what Cedar saw Aspen.” “Oh.” “The things is though, I saw something else in my future from what Cedar saw. I don’t know what that means but that means ther
MaliyahToday I again have physical therapy. We’ve moved on from stretches and strength training to walking. I thought I would enjoy learning to walk again but I was wrong. It has been more difficult than I thought it would be and at times I want to break something cause it hurts.“Alright Maliyah, grab both bars and bring yourself to the end,” says Tanisha.I just stare at the bars, my bitter enemy at the moment. I really don’t feel like trying today. I feel like I’ll never walk normal again. Aspen has been coming to my appointments and watches from the corner. He normally doesn’t get involved but for some reason this time he does. He doesn’t say a word as he places his arms under my armpits and forces me to stand. I don’t have a choice but to grab the bars as he slowly releases me. I glare at him as he begins to slowly back away.“Aspen, I don’t
Maliyah“Maliyah, the guests are arriving!”“Coming mom!”I quickly finish doing my hair in a half up pony tail style and curl it before doing my make up. I can’t believe it’s been almost five years since the war ended and here we are, celebrating my sixteenth birthday. I stop by my nightstand with my sister’s picture and use my powers to make the flowers in the vase bloom again.“Happy birthday sis,” I whisper as I head for the door.I throw on my Ariat boots, hoping towards the door as I put on one at a time. I almost collide with my door trying to put on my last boot as I grab the handle to open the door only to end up running into Aspen. I nearly fall backwards onto the floor, but Aspen reaches out and catches my arm to steady me.
DavinaI wake with a start that it startles Derek. Sweat is dripping down my face as Derek gently cups my face.“What’s wrong love,” he says looking around the room for an intruder.“I got to say goodbye to Malayah,” I whisper. He looks at me confused.“Okay, but what has you so scared?”I turn to Derek, making sure he is listening carefully. Worry is evident on his face as I take deep breaths to calm my racing heart. I need someone else to know what she told me.“Malayah said, ‘Beware of the new comer, darkness will come for her’.”“What does that even mean?”“I don’t know. I don’t even know exactly who she was talking about, but I think it’s Maliyah. I think she was talking about Maliyah and whoever Maliyah saw in t
DavinaThe twins have fallen asleep, Thierry on Derek, Accalia on Calista and Aiden in my arms. Everyone begins going home and we had back into the pack house. We lay the kids down for bed as does Mark and Daniela. It’s nice to see the children together, safe and sound and back to what was once normal. Things may not go back to what they were but we can find a new normal for our family. The last thing I do is prepare a room for my mother with the help of Kat and Daniela. We put her next to Calista as they seem to have hit it off and have become fast friends. I am over the moon that I get to have this opportunity to get to know my mother and learn more about my family. There is so much I don’t know. With mom back in the picture, it seems to have changed things for Kat. Now that Kat has been spending time with our mother and her granddaughter
DavinaWhen we all heard Derek and Maliyah playing I immediately mind link the whole pack to meet at the memorial. Our family gathered at it’s entrance, tears forming in our eyes. I haven’t heard her play in a long time. As pack members began arriving I open the back doors so they can hear too and started passing out candles and lighting them. Once everyone has a candle, I teleport Maliyah and Derek next to the memorial and they don’t miss a note. Families begin stepping up to the memorial and placing beautiful flower arrangements at the base.Dimitri utters a spell under his breath and tells me the flowers will never die, they will remain frozen in time. Celestia and Calista help pass out the Chinese sky lanterns and pens so everyone can write a message or just the name of a loved one that has been lost. I make one for my uncle Gabriel and parents that raised me as they now have no one le
MaliyahI can’t believe what I woke up to. Dr. Smith has been examining me and taking MRI’s of my brain. I am still in shock at everything I am being told. Mom and dad tell me everything I appear to be forgetting. We take several breaks as I am constantly crying over things I have forgotten.I remember some of the information they are telling me but not all of it. After a while I did start to remember the day my sister died but it still doesn’t feel real. I don’t remember being in a coma before and waking up to having another little brother. Uncle Kale died as well as uncle Gabriel and I haven’t been able to accept that yet.Uncle Gabriel has been around all my life, even before I learned what I was. I never imagined I would have to live my life without him.“Ma
DavinaWe’ve been in the dragon realm for the past week; going back and forth to the forbidden realm to explore it more. We want to ensure we had all he details, which Dimitri has written down so we won’t ever forget this day we now call The Day of Retaliation. It’ll always be a day we will mourn as many loved ones were lost that day, but we fought back against my brother and won. I wish there would’ve been another way, but my brother was too far gone. Once we were sure we didn’t miss anything, Dimitri and his coven sealed the realm away forever. The shifter counsel all agreed that it will be against our laws to step foot into that realm so it was best to seal it away to stop temptation. The horse shifters have been learning about the human world as it has changed a lot than from what their ancestors had told them. Technology is a new thing for them and they will remain on bear
DavinaIt’s finally over. It’s been six years since Derek came into my life and my world was turned upside down. Six years after finding out I was not at all human. My heart mourns for those that I have lost in all that time. The parents that raised me, my uncle Gabriel, Thierry who was like a second uncle to me and my biological parents though I didn’t even know it yet.My heart hurts for my sister. She has been an empty shell since we killed Alastor. She remains at Kale’s side though his soul is no longer attached to his body. He’s gone and there is nothing I can really do to comfort her.“Mom, let’s get you something to eat and drink. Please,” begs River but Kat doesn’t respond. She continues to stare at his body and grasp his hand. I think
Davina The minute Maliyah became unconscious her swirl of power dissipated. I drop the sphere of wind and see the zombie creatures are dropping one by one. I rush to Maliyah’s side in a panic with Kat right at my heals. “Maliyah!” Her head is bleeding badly and she is not responding at all. I quickly teleport her to Dr. Smith. “What happened,” asks Dr. Smith. “She hit her head on a rock and I am afraid she used more power than she can handle.” Kat pulls me away from Maliyah to give Dr. Smith room to work and I reluctantly back away. “Davina!” I look up and see Mark and Derek running into the tent. I can feel he is just as scared as I am right now. “Thank Ryuu you are okay. What happened to Maliyah?”
Davina “Maliyah we need you,” I yell through the mind link. Kat and I are trying to finish this once and for all but we both know we won’t win without Maliyah. Alastor creates a sphere of wind around him, pushing Kat and I off of him. I quickly search the field for Maliyah and instantly see what she is doing. Her vision of Derek and Mark dying, it’s happening. “We need Maliyah,” says Kat through the link. “She is needed else where right now. We need to keep him distracted long enough for her to accomplish what is needed and return to us,” I reply. Kat doesn’t question what I mean. We trust each other completely and I know we can hold him off until Maliyah comes back. “You two are a thorn in my side. It’s time for me to be an only child,” growls out Alastor. I know we a
