Chapter 5

When Brock reached Russell's side, Russell kicked him away.

The Whitney family watched in disbelief as the Governor of Havenwood, the most powerful man in the region, was sent flying with a single kick.

"You useless idiot! Brock, how do you manage the families in your jurisdiction? You're a disgrace! Look at what these people have done under your watch!"' Russell shouted, his voice filled with rage.

"They imprisoned Lord Matthias' wife and even planned to take his daughter's heart. This inhuman bunch is under your watch! Have you been sleeping at your job?"

Brock was stunned when he learned about the matter.

Nonetheless, he quickly realized the severity of the situation and was enraged.

He glared at the Whitneys and questioned, "Is that true?"

The Whitneys looked down in fear, afraid to meet Brock's gaze.

Brock's eyes filled with fury as he demanded, "Answer me! Did you do all that?"

Brock's face twisted with anger.

He knew some influential families engaged in shady activities, but he never imagined they could commit such heinous acts.

Brock's rage grew as the Whitneys remained silent, and he prepared to strike.

However, the Unbreakables blocked his path.

"Step aside! Let me kill these animals!" Brock shouted, his fury unrestrained.

Beta scoffed. "You want to kill them? Get in line. We want them dead even more than you do, but killing them outright is too merciful."

His voice turned cold as he said, "This is our matter now. Stay out of it."

"Mr. Bridges!"

Brock looked to Russell, desperate to take action against the Whitney family for causing such a mess in Havenwood.

"Enough!'' Russell intervened, giving Brock a bitter smile.

Then, he addressed Beta. "Mr. B, I promise you, we won't interfere."

"Thank you!" Beta said, bowing slightly.

Meanwhile, the Whitneys were in utter despair.

They had always looked down on Matthias, never imagining he had such a powerful background.

Their predicament was all due to their mistreatment of Leona.

"Clyde, my dear, you were right," Thelma muttered, her face blank.

Back when Clyde Whitney, Jermaine's grandfather, was alive, he had treated Leona with great affection and had high regard for Matthias. He had even warned the family not to provoke Leona and Matthias.

If only they had listened to Clyde, their family might not be in that situation.

Instead, with Matthias' esteemed status, they could have become one of the top families in New Avalbourne.

Unfortunately, there was no way to turn back time, and it was too late.

At St. Merilo's Vaughn Medical Center.

The Vaughn family held a significant influence in St. Merilo, almost unrivaled.

In one of the operating rooms, a little girl was strapped to a surgical table, crying and pleading with the doctors and nurses around her.

"I don't want to go through the surgery. I'm scared of needles. Please, don't give me a shot...

"Please, I beg you. I'll be good, I promise. Just don't give me a shot. It hurts.

"I want to see my mommy. Please let me see my mommy."

Danielle had just recently turned three, and she had no idea what fate awaited her.

She was simply terrified of the operating room's intimidating environment.

However, the doctors and nurses around her remained indifferent to her pleas, looking at her as if she were already dead.

One of the nurses snapped, "Should we just sedate her? She won't stop crying, and it's driving me crazy!"

They were trained by the Vaughn family and were used to doing despicable things.

To them, the little girl was no different than an animal.

"We'll wait for Mr. Vaughn. And remember, we can't give her a full dose. Just a light sedative to keep her conscious. Her heart needs to stay active."

Even though Danielle was too young to understand their words, she sensed the danger and began to cry even louder.

"Shut up!" a nurse shouted, jabbing her with a needle.

Danielle yelped in pain but immediately quieted down, her sobs turning into soft whimpers.

"If you keep crying, I'll jab you again!" the nurse threatened, holding the syringe in front of Danielle's face.

Terrified, Danielle bit her lip and stayed silent.

Just then, an operating table was wheeled into the room.

The staff immediately stopped what they were doing and stood at attention.

"Mr. Vaughn!"

The man they addressed was Gerald Vaughn, son of Horace Vaughn, the head of the Vaughn family.

Though an adult, Gerald had a dwarf body and a congenital heart defect, making him look like a child.

"Are you sure this little bastard child's heart will work for me?" Gerald asked coldly.

"Mr. Vaughn, after precise analyses, we're confident that her heart will sustain your body's blood supply.

"We'll follow up with medication and blood transfusions to gradually stabilize your condition. In about a year, you should be able to live like a normal person. Congratulations, Mr. Vaughn!"

"That's great!" Gerald laughed, but his face quickly paled.

He took a few deep breaths to steady himself before saying, "Make sure everything goes smoothly. If the surgery is successful, each of you will get a 150,000-dollar bonus!"

"Yes, Mr. Vaughn!" The room filled with cheers.

Danielle grew even more terrified at the scene and silently cried.

Meanwhile, Matthias arrived at the entrance of the Vaughn Medical Center.

The Vaughn family guards were on high alert outside the medical center.

It was a crucial night for Gerard, and they would not allow any interruptions!

The guards all appeared formidable, clearly no strangers to violence.

That was all thanks to Horace!

His name alone was enough to instill fear in the hearts of everyone in St. Merilo.
