Chapter 9

After Nadia left with Lesley, Quinn and Xavier were alone by the river. Xavier stood in front of Quinn, shielding her from the wind.

Quinn wanted to have a smoke, but when she reached down for her cigarettes, she realized that she was still in her gown and didn't have her cigarettes with her.

When he saw that, Xavier wordlessly went into his Cullinan, which had been parked by the side of the road, and took out his pack of cigarettes and a lighter.

He pulled out a single cigarette and perched it on his lips before igniting it and taking two long drags.

This action only made Quinn more frustrated. She really hadn't anticipated that Xavier would follow her here.

He had taken her virginity, and she had stabbed him in the chest. Even if he hadn't died from the wound, they were both even now. So why had he followed her here?

Just then, Xavier offered the cigarette on his lips to Quinn. "You wanted a smoke, didn't you?"

Quinn wasn't one to be pretentious, so she opened her mouth.
