AT HOME

As Eleanor pushed and twisted the door's knob, she felt tired with all the day's trouble and immediately slumped on the nearby couch she saw.

Not quite long, her father walked fragilly into the room to meet his daughter laying helplessly on the couch.

He cleared his throat and this action jolted his daughter from her small slumber.

She rolled her eyes at the sight of her father.

“Out of everyone,why does he have to be here” She said in curiosity.

“Eleanor Roseville, where were you? You were out since morning and we are in the mid evening. So you're late” He said his hands akimbo staring at her like she was a little kid.

She rolled her eyes once more, she was already getting tired of her dad's pampering. It was already getting too much to handle

 “Father, I am not a kid anymore. I'm grown up, I'm nineteen for crying out loud. So why can't live my life peacefully without you interfering” She looked straight at his eyes as she said so.

He wasn't ready to give up to his daughter so easily “I know you are no more a child, but still, you should caution how you visit places. It's just too dangerous for a young girl like you”

She couldn't stay here anymore and listen to her dad's lectures “I'm in my room if you need me” She attempted walking out but her dad's words stopped her from doing so..

“Don't you dare walk out on me” He Said with a tone of commandment.

She looked at her father with her eyes screaming daring “Oh yeah, watch me do so.”

Without caring for anything in the world, she walked elegantly to her room leaving her surprised father to himself.

The moment she entered her room, her eyes looked greedily at the six by six pink plush bed. All her soul wanted to jump on the bed and have a soundily sleep in content.

Without thinking for a second, she immediately jumped on it and sighed in content “Ahhh, this is the life”

Not quite long from that time, she drifted up to sleep.

~~~ABOUT TWO HOURS LATER~~~

Eleanor was awaken by the sudden knock on her door. The knock was faint but one could easily notice that someone knocked.

She yawned with content as she stared towards the door “Who's there?” She asked waiting expectantly for an answer.

Not long, her father's voice was heard “It's me Eleanor, let me in, it's urgent”

She rolled her eyes hearing his voice, she knew he was here to criticize her as always, and she wasn't ready to hear such discouraging words from him anymore.

“No, don't come in, leave!! I don't want to listen to your criticising words anymore”

“I'm not here to say anything bad. I want to tell you something that's urgent” Her father quickly chipped in.

“Fine, come in” As she said that, she quickly arranged her bed, tied her hair in a bun and awaited his arrival.  

In a split of a second, he was already on her bed with a straight face as usual, her father wasn't someone who played around, he was a very serious, straight forward man.

“The doctor wants us to see us both at the hospital now”

At what he just said, Eleanor's eyes quickly widened. She doesn't joke with the health of her mother at all.

Thousands of questions flushed her mind curiously in a split of a second“What happened to Mother? Why the urgent call from the doctor? I hope everything is okay”

“Dad, is anything wrong with Mother? I hope she's okay” She immediately voiced out.

Her father nodded negatively as her heart skipped a beat “I don't know Eleanor, he didn't say anything else aside from coming to the hospital urgently” 

She looked at her father's eyes trying to know his emotions, and it clearly showed soberness. Though Her father was mean to her, she still wished she could console him.

She was also scared that something bad shouldn't have befallen her mother.

Almost immediately, her father stood up from the bed and looked at her “Get dressed quickly, so we could go visit the doctor and don't forget to bring food for your mother” He said and walked out as Eleanor looked at his retreating back leaving her room.

She sighed in distress thinking how thier life came to all this .

Years back, they were a perfect family, her mother was the best mother and cook, her father was although strict, but was still nice. And her two younger sisters were thier world.

She stared blankly at nothing while a fat drop of tears fell down from her eyes to her cheek to her bed. She immediately cleaned her eyes and was about to get ready.

Eleanor walked up to the shower and took a nice shower that lasted for just ten minutes, she then came out and went to brush her teeth.

She stayed in front of the large sized mirror in distaste. “I look leaner than before” she said inwardly with a large frown on her face.

She took on of her floral gown which had lace flowers at the edge of every end of the gown. She wore it quickly and took up a comb.

She combed her hair for the fifth time before she was satisfied, she then took her hair and tied it in a ponytail and applied lip gloss.

Eleanor looked at the outcome in front of the mirror and sighed confidently “Now, I look more better” She said out loud.

She made her way to the kitchen hoping to find what to take to the hospital for her mother but unfortunately, there was nothing at home, so she had to make something herself.

An idea popped in her head “Maybe I can make something easy and quick like peanut butter and jelly” At that sudden thought, she took her ingredients and in no less than ten minutes, she was done!!

She packed it in a paper bag calling onto her father “Dad! Dad!! Dad!! I'm done and ready to go. Are you?” She asked but there was no response.

Out of curiosity, she walked up to her father's room “Dad, are you here?” She peeped inside but there was no one.

She shoved it off thinking he was already out forgetting they had somewhere else to go or maybe he went to the hospital himself.

She picked up the paper bag and a little Gucci bag of hers and went to the hospital.

She boarded a cab and stopped in front an hospital in which a large billboard already stated 'saint Paul's hospital centre'

She got down, paid the driver and smiled and went inside the hospital. The environment already smelling of drugs, sick patients, and pregnant women which irked Eleanor and made her almost puke.

She held it in as she made for the doctor's office straight.

After looking left and right for the umpteenth time, she couldn't seen to find the doctor's office and this made her frustrated.

Thankfully, she saw a nurse walking towards her direction so she quickly stopped her “Excuse me and sorry to bother you but can you point the way to the doctor's office for me please?”

The nurse nodded and smiled professionally “No problem ma'am, that's the doctor office there” She said as Eleanor's eyes traced where she pointed at. It was the door located opposite three doors away.

She smiled at the nice nurse thankfully “Thank you so much for your help. I appreciate it, really.”

The nurse smiled again but this time widely “You are welcome ma'am”

Eleanor nodded again and walked to where she was directed. She breathed in and knocked slightly at the door that the sign of 'doctor's office' was written boldly on it.

A faint 'come in' was heard which signified for Eleanor to enter.

As she entered, she saw a beautiful figure seated confidently on a chair, he had black shabby hair as a smile crept up his lips.

He looked professional with the doctor's attire he wore and a stethoscope around his neck which made him look more breathtaking. 

“But he isn't as breathtaking as Nicholas” She said inwardly regretting afterwards for taking sides with him.

He smiled professionally at her as he pointed towards the nearby chair opposite him “Miss Roseville I guess, have a seat please”

She looked backwards and places her Paper bag with food on the floor and sat down.

The doctor cleared his throat looking straight in her eyes which made her shy.

“Where's your father? Isn't he still coming?”

Eleanor was confused at his question “Wasn't her here already? I thought he already came here before me”

The doctor felt confused too “No he hasn't, maybe he's busy and forgot to tell you he won't be coming. Well, I suppose I could tell you too since you are already old enough”

She nodded which made him proceed “You have till the day after tomorrow to save your mother or else she would be dead by the disease”

Eleanor's eyes widened in shock “What?”
