Nicholas POV
When my eyes opened the next morning, the first thing that hit me was a stinging ache at the back of my head.
It felt like a hammer was pounding away, and I couldn't remember why. I swallowed hard and I tried to sit up, but a wave of dizziness washed over me. It forced me to fall back onto the pillow.
Soon, my eyes adjusted to the dim light, I realized I was in an unfamiliar room. It was a room I didn't ever remember walking into. The high walls were a dull gray, and the furniture was sparse and modern.
It was the floor that caught my attention. Shards of broken glasses and bottles littered the wet surface, and the acrid smell of alcohol hung low in the room.
"What the actual hell?" I said with a small gasp.
Panic set in as I struggled to remember how I got there, yet nothing came to mind.
My eyes darted as I tried to find any clue, but my mind remained completely blank.
That's when I heard a light snore beside me.
I turned to see a woman with black hair lying on her side, facing away from me.
A chill ran through me. It was then that I recalled that I has been. Waiting for Lily, my ex girlfriend, the previous night. Did she finally make it to my room as planned? I blinked at the feminine figure that slept besides me and my mouth turned dry.
Lily's hair was blonde, not black! Who was this in my bed? I let out a sharp breath, trying to calm my nerves down. This was definitely not Lily. I didn't have to look at her face to confirm it.
The woman stirred slightly, but didn't wake up. I watched her for a moment, as worry snaked through me.
Who was she? And what had happened the night before?
"The night before! I reasoned, "I had to know how I ended up in bed with a complete stranger."
I peered under the bed covers and felt a jolt of shock hit me with a force. I was naked. I had no idea what had even happened the night before, but it was quite clear that something had gone very wrong. When I was sure that I was strong enough, I slowly pushed myself out of bed, trying not to disturb the woman. I couldn't risk getting seen by the strange woman, at least, not in my current state.
I tiptoed across the room and stood by the bathroom door. Then, my eyed scanned the room as I struggled to find some clue as to what had happened.
There was nothing!
Just the mess on the floor and the sound of her gentle snoring. I took silent steps back to the table besides the head of the bed, grabbed my phone and went into the bathroom, shutting the doors besides me.
With one glance at my screen, I saw that I had multiple missed calls from my assistant.
I knew something was wrong. I was just about to ring up his line when his call came in.
"Nicholas, where are you?" Joe, my assistant asked urgently, "I've been trying to reach you for hours. We have a situation."
I stood in front of the sink and stared at my eyes, fixed on my reflection in the mirror.
"What's going on?" I demanded.
"The woman who was engaged down the hall, Sia Stanton...there's evidence that she was in your hotel room last night," he bluntly replied.
"Sia Stanton?"
"Yes. That's her name."
My chest tightened with fear. I could barely remember anything about the night before.
What did my assistant mean by "evidence"? Was I being watched?
"Yes. Sia Stanton was in here last night. What’s the issue?" I shot at him.
"The issue is she broke off her engagement before coming to your room, and the media is pushing a narrative about an affair between you two," Joe explained. "It's all over the news. We need to do damage control, fast. From our sources, we have noticed that Sia's parents are involved with pushing this scandal"
My muscles tense and rage bottled up inside me. "Damn it!" I cursed. In seconds, my hand balled into fists and I threw a punch at the bathroom wall.
This was not what I needed, especially with a big client on the line who would be turned off by news of this scandal. I paced back and forth in the small bathroom, trying to think of a way to fix this mess.
"How do we fix this?" I asked Joe. "We need to set the record straight."
"You are already in the spotlight and you know how bad it will be if the government has their attention on you, and—"
"Just shut up, Joe. I know I'm in deep shit. What's the way out?"
There was silence on the line.
"Call me back when you figure something. The strange woman in question is still laying in my bed."
"Wh-whaat?"
"Yes!" I rubbed my forehead, realizing how stupid I sounded, "And, I don't remember how and when she got in there. What I know is that we did something together. We were both wasted."
Joe sighed.
"Figure a way out of this mess. Call me soon." I snarled and ended the call.
I unlocked the bathroom door and went over to the only chair in the room. It turned the chair to face the bed and I sat with a deep frown.
My eyes remained pinned on her as I battled with the warring thoughts in my mind. Then, a thought hit me.
What if this strange woman was a spy? My annoyance flared. It was very possible that one of my rivals had sent this dark haired lady to seduce me, and the more I thought about it, the angrier I got.
She stirred, waking up with a start, and her eyes met mine. At first, she seemed confused to see me staring at her, and then, fear shone in her eyes as they widened.
"Stay away from me!" she snapped, as she pushed herself up to sit on the bed.
"Hello, Sia Stanton," I said, my eyes never leaving hers.
"Who are you? What do you want?" She asked in a shaky voice.
I leaned forward.
"I want to know what happened last night," I said, "I want to know why you're in my bed, and why your parents are telling the press that we're having an affair."
SIA POV"Who the hell are you?!" I snapped at the stranger who sat, with crossed legs, watching me. He let out a mirthless laugh, the next second, his face hardened, and his lips were set in a thin line. Silence filled the room, making me uncomfortable. I picked up a pillow and flung it at him. His frown deepened and he rolled his eyes as the pillow smacked his face before falling to the floor."Are you deaf?" I yelled, as raw panic swept through me. I threw off the covers from my body and my mouth hung open. I didn't have any clothes on. That only meant one thing, but I forced myself not to think of it."No...it can't be true" I muttered under my breath. He eyed me in silence.A few moments passed and I jumped out of bed, taking the bedsheets with me as a cover. I was now unable to deal with the heat of his stare, and I edged backwards to the window behind me. I stood a good distance away from him. At least, It would give me more advantage over him if he ever wanted to lunge for
Nicholas POV“What do you mean?” Sia shot up from her bed, surprise framing her face as she stared at me disbelievingly.“Exactly what you heard,” I immediately snapped, pressing my back against the door as I stared at her. “Well, except of course you have a better option.” She didn't say anything, rather she nibbled on her lower lips, her hands crossed over her shoulders as she stared into the distance, deep in thought. I found myself staring at how her cherry pink lips suffered brutality as she dug into her teeth, ‘This is torture,’ I thought to myself as I pushed myself off the door. “We don't have all the time in the world, miss Stanton,” I said, cutting through the silence and her thoughts. “Isn't there some other option rather than this… this… this marriage,” she finally completed after a while of trying to find a word that she wouldn't choke on. “Do you really think I want to get married to you? A stranger I barely know?” I said, standing a bit away from, anger framing my
Sia POV. “What have I done?” I whispered again, not able to understand how this video crept online. Things weren't really making sense any longer to me. “D-did you bug this room with cameras?” I choked out, unable to think clearly. He gave me the look that said, ‘What sorta question is that?’, but at that point, I was finding it hard to know what to do or say. “Answer me! Did you bug the room with secret cameras?” I fired again, glaring furiously at him when he wouldn't say anything. “Where did you put it?” “What are you going on about? Why would I want to bug my room?” He reiterated back and dammit if his answer didn't sound plausible enough but I was beyond reasoning. “I don't know. It could've been for any reason. Maybe because… or…” I trailed off not knowing what to say. “Go on, why don't you tell me? Did your list get exhausted even before you started?” he teased, his face still contorted in anger. I don't know where I got the courage from but I hated the way he had th
SIA POV“Brace yourself princess,” Greg said, winking at me through the mirror. “We're here.”A few seconds later, the car pulled over in front of a huge property with high walls and a massive gate which had iron spikes and a heavy looking lock. The top of the wall was sharp barbed wire that seemed to glint.“Where are we?” I asked, feeling a shiver run down my back as I stared at the building.“This is my private mansion,” Nicholas replied, beating Greg to it. “You'll be safe here for now. I'll take you home later… when the heat dies.”“I'm sorry I missed something, what am I staying safe from exactly?” I asked, eyeing him and Greg suspiciously. Nicholas didn't reply to me, rather he alighted from the car and turned around to open the door closest to me. “Get down,” he ordered, taking a step back to give me space to step out. Staring at his rock hard gaze that was quite intimidating. I hesitated for a moment, before stepping out of the car.It was only then that I got a better view
"You can't run from me, Sia!" I yelled at the top of my voice as the two women stormed out, the door slamming behind them with a loud thud. Did Sia hear what I said?Well, I couldn't care less. One thing was sure—I was going to find her later that evening. I had already planted people in strategic locations to keep an eye on her and make sure she didn't something as funny as running away. Also, I needed to find out who had placed those secret cameras at the hotel room, and why they did that. A fleeting thought flashed my mind and I grimaced. What if Sia wasn't who I thought she was? What if she was working with some rival of mine to pull me down? As innocent as she looked, I was sure that there was something more to her. I heard light footsteps behind me and swing around to the direction. One of my staff; Mama Carlotta. She was an aged woman who had once been my nanny at childhood, stood in the doorway, her hands clasped in front of her. Her face was pale, as though she had seen
NICHOLAS POVWhat the hell? I cursed underneath my breath. For a second or two, anger seethed through me, and then, it gave way to irritation.Greg was still looking at me, smiling. " Do you like Sia?" He repeated. I cocked an eyebrow, “Your superpower is to be the most annoying dumbass in my life. How do you even sit in one place and formulate things in your head?” Greg didn't budge, instead he continued, “Come on, Nicholas, admit it. You like her.”“No, I don't." I cut in, "As a matter of fact, Sia is the last woman I would ever like. Period!” I ended, a scowl on my face. “I need you to remind me again. Why are you so worked up about her safety?”" Her safety?" I repeated his words. He threw his hands in the air, "Is it obvious enough?""I'm telling you, Greg, I don't like her," I grunted, placing emphasis on my last words. “Save it, Nicholas. You're worried about her, and before you bring up the topic of your reputation, it's not just about your reputation. You're invested in
SIA POV“That's enough, Elise. Please let go of my wrist now,” I said, pulling my hands away from Elise's grip as I took two steps backward, massaging my wrist. “Sia, what exactly is your problem?” Elise suddenly asked, taking a step forward as she glared at me. My face lit up in surprise because of all the questions, I didn't think she'd settle for that when she knew exactly what my problem was. “You know exactly what my problem is,” I fired back at her. “Do you really have to squeeze my wrist so tightly?”“You're more concerned about your wrist?” Elise asked, wide eyed. “I can't believe this.”“Of course, I am concerned about my wrist,” I exclaimed, still rubbing the sore skin.Elise stared at me quietly for some time, then she scoffed, “How do you always find yourself in unfortunate situations?”I slowly tilted my head slightly, to meet her gaze. "Unfortunate situations?"Elise's eyes locked onto mine, worry hidden in the depths. "Nicholas Winthrop, the billionaire. He has a gir
NICHOLAS POV“Nicholas Winthrop?” An older version of Sia gasped as soon as I walked in, more like barged in though. “What are you doing here?” Sia who was equally as shocked as everyone else managed to choke out. My eyes caught Nathan Sterling, my business rival. He stood a distance with his arms folded across his chest, glaring at me.As much as I'd have loved to savor this moment, I couldn't because I was pissed. I pinned my eyes on Sia and spoke in a low tone. "My love" I started, "Of course, I came here to get you.""Get me?" She shot at me with disbelief. "We agreed that you would have a formal introduction with my family tonight. Didn't we?" I asked, with a smirk. I was aware of the impact of my words on her parents anf Nathan who was still looking at me. I didn't need anyone to tell me that Nathan was the idiot who cheated on her. “What do you mean? This is just past 5,” She retorted, stealing a glance at the fancy wall clock.“Well, I missed you too soon. What can I say
CHAPTER 49 NICHOLAS POV As I took brisk steps down the sterile, white hallway, my heart pounded in my chest. I needed air, I needed space, and most importantly, I needed to get away from this hospital. To take Sia with me, but the thought of the man waiting for me made my skin crawl. My jaw tightened. Why was Ethan here? I couldn't think of any reason why he would be looking for me in the hospital where Sia had been admitted. Or...had he been following me?That loser! I fumed underneath my breath. I shoved my hands into my pockets as I approached the lobby. Ethan stood there, lounging against the wall as if he owned the place. His hands were casually stuffed in his pockets, and there was a smug look on his face. The same face I had come to hate over the last few weeks. His eyes found mine the second I stepped out of drew close to him, and if it was even possible, his grin widened.“What the hell are you doing here?” I snapped, my voice low and hard. Just the sight of him made m

Chapter 48Nicholas POV I sat at my desk, trying to concentrate on the documents in front of me, but every word blurred. My thoughts drifted back to Sia, and the argument we’d had two days ago. I gritted my teeth. She could do whatever she wanted; it wasn’t my business, not anymore. But despite myself, I felt a pang of guilt, an unwelcome reminder that she was still my wife—contract or not.Just as I was about to bury myself back into my work, my phone rang. Gregory’s name flashed on the screen.I answered, a bit more curtly than usual. “What is it?”“Nicholas, you need to come to the hospital. Sia’s been admitted.” His voice was serious, almost grim.“What happened?” I demanded, already rising from my chair.“I think it’s best if you just come. She’s stable for now, but you should be here.”My pulse quickened. “I’ll be there in ten minutes.”The drive to the hospital felt longer than usual. As I drove, my mind raced with thoughts of Sia lying alone in a sterile room, hurt and poss
CHAPTER 47SIA POVI didn't need to ask twice before knowing that Nicholas was not going to tell me who he had been speaking with on the phone. I knew that he had been talking to Lily. It was surprising, especially after she had behaved on the day of the press conference. Were they back together now? What was going on?Nicholas stared at me, his eyes narrowed. "I don't know what you're talking about."His phone stopped ringing and I shrugged. "I don't care what you do with your ex-girlfriend," I said, turning away. Then, I walked out of the room, leaving him behind. As soon as I got downstairs, one of the security of the suite approached me. There was a worried look on his face. I frowned. "Any issues?"He nodded, drawing close on me. "There's someone at the big gates, asking to be let in.""Okay?""She fits the description of the person whom boss had warned us to not let into the property, Ma'am."An alarm rang in my head. Elise! That had to be Elise my bestfriend. I rushed out
Chapter 46Nicholas POV In the split of a second, I watched how Sia went from being shocked to being disappointed to being sad. Something broke inside me. Her eyes widened, shock etched on her face. She opened her mouth, then closed it, struggling to find words."What's wrong?" she finally managed.I rolled my eyes. Did she have to ask me such a stupid question?"Last night...it was a mistake," I repeated, tearing my gaze away from hers. Her face crumpled, and she edged backward, tears rolling down her cheeks. She hastily wiped them off."What did you expect?" I asked, trying to sound detached. "That we'd suddenly become romantic partners just because we shared one night of intimacy?"Sia's voice trembled. "No, I didn't expect that. What I did expect was that you'd be nice enough to stop pretending about what you want.""I'm not pretending," I said, my voice was cold.Sia's eyes flashed. "So, what you mean is that what we shared that night meant nothing to you?""Yes," I replied, as
CHAPTER 45 - Nicholas POVAs Lily began to kiss me, I almost pushed her away. Yet, I kissed her back. The best way to take down a cunning person like Lily was to be one step ahead of her, and that was exactly what I was ready to do. I planed my next move as I tugged softly on her lips. When I slowly pulled away, breaking the kids, she was looking at me with a smile on her lips. "I guess I have all morning to do this with you, Lily" I said with a hoarse voice, smirking. Her cheeks flushed as she twirled strange of her hair with a finger, seductively biting her lower lip. "Sure. How do you suggest we spend it before we get on the sheets?"Perfect! She asked the right question. Excitement almost burst through my chest as I pointed at the glass of champagne which she had left on the table. "Let's share a drink, first." I said, still smiling. Then, I gestured to the bottle of champagne which chilled in the ice bucket. "Allow me to pour out my drink myself." She jerked her head backwar
CHAPTER 44Nicholas POV I blinked rapidly, trying to shake off the haze.Where was I? My bed. I was in my bed. But...what happened last night? Sia laid next to me on the bed, one of her hands remained crossed on my chest and she snores lightly. Her head was on my other arm, and her hair was in my face. I held my breath. This wasn't true. Or...was it? Sia and I in bed together? I shut my eyes, forcing myself to snap out of this dream.I had to be dreaming! How did I spend almost a month, proving to Sia that I hated her in private, only to end up getting intimate with her in one night. Then, it happened. All of a sudden, the memories flooded my mind like a tidal wave.Sia, naked and trembling as I went beneath her. The shower. Her screams of pleasure. My fingers, my tongue...Fuck it!Did I sleep with her? No, we didn't...we didn't have sex. Relief washed over me. I gently extricated myself from the bed, careful not to disturb Sia .My nakedness hit me like a slap. What had I been
Chapter 43SIA POV How long could it take before a human heart could explode as a result of pumping too much blood?I needed to know, because with the rate at which my heart was pounding against my chest, I was so damn sure that it could explode. Nicholas sensed my uneasiness as he got into the bathroom. He placed a kiss on my forehead before lowering me to the floor. We got into the shower and he proceeded to bathe me, as though I was a child. He was gentle with me, making me to winder whether he was the same man whose life purpose was to be cold and rude towards me. I forced myself to stop thinking about our past. My past with him. And, I focused on the sensation of his hands rubbing soap all over my body. He was naked too. His cock was erect, and pulsing. It was hard not to look at it, so I focused on his face. When he turned on the shower, he pressed my body against his in hug as we stood underneath the showerhead. Water trickled down our hair and our body. My nipples we
CHAPTER 42SIA POV I had no idea what I was doing, but I was so sure I wanted it. I wanted this. I wanted to be seen, at least, for once by the very man who triggered something in me. I wanted to know that he wasn't just putting up a facade of non-chalance for me, while trying to shownthe world that i meant something to him. That was our plan, wasn't it?But now, I was willing to be stupid enough to admit that I wanted more. I wanted to see something that I shouldn't even desire to see.To see that, deep down, a part of him was begining to crave me as much I was begining to want him. Fuck it!I wanted him to be inside me again. Afterall, wasn't that the begining of my misery with him? Making him to get inside me, huh? I didn't care anymore. Nothing else mattered, except the raw lust that burned in his eyes as he stared down at me from the foot of the bed."I'm trying my best to keep my senses intact, Sia." He said with a low growl, stepping away from the bed. I sat up immediatel
