"Uncle, did you hear our conversation?" Caroline asked anxiously. She was a little nervous and quite afraid that Jared would find out that Caroline was taking advantage of whatever Jared was concerned about.

"I don't know what you were talking about, but seeing as Jake was willing to give you his watch, it means you had a pretty deep conversation. It's dismissal time; you should go home now." Jared replied in a tone that sounded unfriendly. He was angry and disappointed by the two most precious people in his life.

"Ah yes, it's time to go home. I lost track of time." Caroline tried to act casual.

"Caroline, I don't think I need to wait a week. I already know what your answer is; you still love Jake, and I will no longer force you to marry me. Just forget about the offer I made.
