Chapter 5

KEIRA

My eyes widened Instantly in shock and my heart almost jumped out of my chest. Is this real? Oh my God, I can't believe it!

Did the universe finally hear my voice or cries?! This is awesome. My heart kept thumping and I quickly texted back.

(Yes please, I'm interested in the job! Where can we meet?) I replied as an overwhelming smile crossed my cheeks.

“Yes!” I blurted without realizing that some people's attention drew to me. I can't believe this, I took my luggage and stopped a cab. The moment I entered the cab, another notification popped in.

(Come to Kay coffee shop by 12pm to meet the manager) The text message said and my eyes went over to my wrist immediately. It was 11am already. I was so excited that I directed the cab driver to the coffee shop. Who cares about waiting an extra hour, besides it is not like I had any destination.

People were staring at me the moment I walked into the coffee shop with my luggage. They gave me weird gazes and I understand, I would have stared weirdly at someone if they were taking their luggage everywhere with them..

I sat down at a table and patiently waited. While I was waiting, my phone beeped, signalling me another notification.

(I'm coming back to New York tomorrow, Keira, let's meet up) That was my best friend, Elena.

(Sure) I typed back.

I waited at the coffee shop for some more time before I looked up to see a man walking towards my table. Was he the manager and did he recognise me? Well, any employer would have done research or gone through my social media profiles. I'm still surprised I got this job.

“Miss Keira?” He said, stepping closer as I stood up instantly.

“Yes…” I answered. He looked very imposing and cool. His hands clasped firmly on a briefcase.

“Please have your seat…” He demanded and I sat down, same as he.

“Care for a coffee?”

“No… I'm cool…” I blurted immediately, flashing an awkward smile.

“If you insist…” He said curtly and opened the briefcase, taking out a file as he passed it to me.

“This is the Job contract, the location, terms and conditions for the job. Please go through it carefully before signing or agreeing to the terms” He explained while handing me the document.

I grasped the document off his hand and my eyes began running through it.

It was an interior designing job as I was told but it had other things but what amazed me the most was the contract duration and the pay. I have never received a job that paid so well and for such a long duration when I worked as an interior designer before getting married to that bastard, Liam.

“I would be taking care of the penthouse?” I asked after looking up to him.

“Yes, you don't have to worry about your accommodation. A room would be provided for you in the penthouse” He replied and I twitched my lips. Everything seems to be falling in place. I was just stressing over an accommodation for the meantime. A wow fled my lips but I didn't exclaim loudly.

But then, I would be attending to the needs of the house owner as well. My mood turned aghast immediately. I would be living with the house owner?!

“Is this a mistake? The penthouse owner will be around?” I asked and he nodded.

“You don't have to worry about my Boss… You just have to be obedient and respect his privacy and rules. The penthouse doesn't need much design. It is a modern one. My Boss just wants something new and different. Apart from the $300,000 for the annual job, an extra $150,000 would be added to your account for taking care of my Boss and the penthouse” He explained. “Of course once you sign the contract.” He added.

This actually seemed too good to be true. Regardless of me dying in six months, I wanted to live my best life at least. That would be a farewell to myself. Wow… I gulped and continued going through the contract….

“He doesn't like peas? Egg yolks?” I lifted my gaze to him again.

“Boss doesn't like peas, he doesn't like egg yolks. He is allergic to them actually. Everywhere has to be neat and clean to avoid phobia. You have to cook early and I would be listing the groceries you need.” He muttered confidently and I wrinkled my brows.

I got an interior designing job, not a nanny job! This is ridiculous. This seems more like a nanny job to the house owner.

“What am I? A nanny? A cook?” I snapped, my voice slightly frustrated. I had forgotten I needed this job more than anything before talking back at him. I mean I was so excited because I needed this the most right now but some many tasks for me who wouldn't be alive after six months.

He didn't even say anything to me but rather he opened the briefcase before me and I saw the thousands of dollars in them and I couldn't help but swallow hard at the sight of them..

“An extra $50,000 for you” He said calmly and without going through the rest of the contract, I picked up the pen and signed.
