LONELY

LISA POV

The sound of a machine beeping and muffled sounds of people talking woke me up. I could barely hear what they were saying, I tried to open my eyes but they felt heavy.

Slowly everything became clear and I could understand what was going around me and the voices where it came from, I could recognize two familiar voices but another voice was unknown.

“How long will it take for her to regain consciousness?” The voice I recognize to be my father's asked.

“Not very long, maybe in a few hours” the unknown voice said very calmly.

“That's what you said 2 hours ago, are you messing with me?” Dad's voice sounded angry but why? Why was he getting angry because I was asleep? Well I'm up already I tried to say.

“Hey man, cut the man some slack. He has been working his ass off monitoring her vitals all night.” That was Uncle Ben's voice.

But monitoring my vitals? Why? Was something wrong with me? I immediately got scared, my baby. My eyes jacked open and I held my stomach, I looked around and saw my dad still in his clothes from last night, uncle Ben and a man putting on a white coat, Dr Lewis our family doctor.

“Lisa baby are you okay?” Dad asked, I just stared at him like did he forget we weren't on good terms? When Dr Lewis saw I wasn't going to say anything to my dad, he walked towards me and said,

“Lisa, are you okay?” I nodded, “tell me what you can remember”

I stare at the doctor and tried to speak but my voice was hoarse he quickly handed me a glass of water which I took without wasting time and downed the entire glass in a go and said,

“I…I remember going into my room and that's it…that's all…..I guess I slept off? Maybe?” I was not sure if I was correct.

“Well Lisa you lost consciousness and was out for a while, you over-stressed yourself which caused you to faint which may have endangered your baby” in instinct I covered my stomach “but….. you're child is fine and safe” Dr Lewis said calmly to me.

“Thank you” I said barely above a whisper, I'm not the type to show affection to anyone that's not family excluding Daniel cause I love him, Dr Lewis equally looked shocked but just had to pretend and nod like it's a normal thing. My dad and uncle Ben just stood and watched us like they were strangers.

Dr Lewis, still sitting, held my hands and said, “ you shouldn't be alone all the time, not while pregnant.”

“Tell that to my Dad” was the first sentence I said directly to my Dad.

Dad took that as an invitation and walked towards me “princess you know this wasn't what I intended to happen, I just wanted to keep you safe ... .I….I'm sorry princess…..I'm sorry” I watched my Dad standing like a teenager being scolded and felt pity.

“Well if you want me to forgive you, you'll have to come closer and check up on you baby” I said smiling, he was about to move closer when i stopped saying, “and you'll have to explain to me what the hell is going on, okay?”

“Alright princess, whatever you say” my dad and uncle Ben walked towards me finally smiling.

“I will leave you all then” Dr Lewis said carrying his things and walking out, no one said anything to him, I'm sure he doesn't mind he's been with us for far too long he has been able to cope with all our rudeness but we're kind to him in our own way. I made eye contact with him when he got to the door and nodded my head in appreciation and he smiled. I guess he does like simple gestures, and he closed the door behind him.

Uncle Ben kept pinching my cheeks asking if I could feel it, I already told him countless times that I could and dad just wanted to see my cheeks red cause it meant I had enough blood, that's what he thinks is correct. I wish we could be happy again but I know Dad is hiding something from me, I don't know what but I'll find out no matter what.

Even with my family here I felt alone, Maya wasn't here so was Daniel, without them I felt lonely, Dad might have noticed my change in mood, he sat in a stool, held my hands and said,

“Maya has been threatening me ever since she hasn't been able to reach you” I smile and he chuckled, “she said she's going to blow up the entire house apart from your room, like that is possible” laughing now.

“Typical Maya” I smile softly, I didn't realize how much I’ve missed her. I wish she was here cursing my father with me. The thought made me smile more.

“Here,” Dad handed me my phone, I looked at him suspiciously and he turned the phone over and I realized it was a new phone. I gave him a pointed look and he didn't bother, he just continued, “all necessary numbers are in there including Maya and that's all you can do, my decision still stands ... .but…. Maya can come whenever, okay?”

I smiled at least half of what I wanted. “Okay,” I stared at uncle Ben and secretly asked with my eyes if I could still ask for more and he gave me a go ahead, I laughed.

“Sometimes I wonder if you're my daughter or Ben's daughter. What the hell just happened?” Dad said. Dad has always been frustrated with how close I and uncle Ben are but he loves us.

“Dad…can Maya bring takeouts whenever I want” I say playing the innocent sweet daughter card. Dad finally realized what I and uncle Ben did and laughed,

“Yes baby, yes she can. Let's not argue again alright” Dad said, staring at me for an answer.

“Well I can consider that after you bring Maya to me” I say smiling, “uncle Ben you can take him away” I say taking my hands from his and preparing to lie back down on the bed.

“Princess…..” uncle Ben cuts him off

“Alright big man let's go bring Maya” he pulls Dad with him as they leave my room. I picked up the phone from the bedside where dad kept it and stared at it before going through the phone. Dad wasn't joking when he said he put only necessary numbers in my new phone.

I miss Daniel, I'm sure he must have tried to call a few times, he's probably transferring his anger to Mark, I chuckled, poor mark, at least he gets to hear Daniel's voice.
