They both decided it'll be best to have separate rooms for now, Muhammad had said,
"I'll wait for however long it takes for you to get comfortable with me but be warned, once you do, you won't be able to keep your hands off this hunk."
They both bursted into laughter, "hunk is a muscular man, see your thin arms, no be only hunk, you that have the face of hulk."
His eyes widened in horror and she laughed hard at his reaction, now retired back in her room, Amirah smiled at the memory as she arranged her clothes in the wardrobe, Muhammad was just something else.
When they had met, she had been blown away with how much this good looking man was staring at her and when he had walked up to her to make her laugh and collect her number, Amirah had already began crushing on everything about him.
It took her four months to get bored and irritated with him, that was the longest for her. The little things he used to do that was heart warming to her began to provoke her but he stuck with her, he was like an itch that refused to go away. When Baba had called her to ask her about the man Hajiya said wanted to marry her and who's name was Muhammad, she had been left appalled and had no choice but to go with it, he then asked to see the man.
Three days was the amount of time it took a very excited Muhammad to get an urgent leave from his workplace and to come down to Kano to see her father, it turned out his father was an old friend of Baba.
If only Muhammad knew the things she had done was capable of she was sure he wouldn't be this head over heels for her.

Amirah was awoken by a pounding on her door and someone calling her name from the other side of it, she groggily rubbed her eyes and turned on her bedside lamp.
"Amirah!" Muhammad called again followed by another knock.
"I'm coming." She said in a voice filled with irritation, it wasn't daybreak so what was so important he had to disturb her sleep?
She opened the door to reveal Muhammad claded in a brown thawb.
"What's wrong? Why did you have to wake me up? Do you know how long it took for me to finally fall asleep?" He seemed taken aback by her questions and the annoyance in her tone.
"I'm sorry, I just wanted to wake you up so we could perform the fajr prayers together." He explained.
"I'm unclean." She said and without waiting to hear anything more from him, she shut the door in his face and went back to the warmness of her bed.
The next time she opened her eyes, her bedside clock read 10am, she dragged her limbs from the bed and went out of the room, from the quiet nature of the house, she guessed that Muhammad had already gone to work. His little fajr drama this morning had irked her, maybe she should warn him about it, her sleep was highly important so he shouldn't interrupt it by waking her up for prayers, she prayed fajr whenever she woke up and if she woke up after the allocated time for praying, she doesn't bother.
Amirah headed to her favorite part of her new home, the kitchen. It was huge and to her liking.
She checked the top shelfs for something to eat. She ended up preparing noodles and she decided she'll need to go the market soon.
After eating, Amirah cleaned for she hated seeing even the littlest of dirt and no speck of dirt ever escaped her sharp eyes, Khadijah usually teased her about having OCD.
Cleaning the house prove to be not much of a trouble and she was soon done leaving her extremely bored, with nothing much to do, she went into her bags and brought out her drawing sheet, she began designing buildings.
Two hours into it, she was tired and extremely bored.
"Ya Allah! What does he expect me to do around here?"
Shaking her head, she took her bath and changed into a blue gown, picked up her veil and phone before heading out for a walk, just as she was in the compound, she heard a knock on the gate.
Wondering who it was, she opened the gate to reveal a short and plump woman.
"Hello I'm Mrs Jane, the cleaning lady for the estate. Your husband asked for my services."
"Oh! uhmm I'm sorry, I don't think I'll be needing your services, it was probably a mistake from my husband's part." Amirah explained, she saw the crestfallen look that envelope the lady's face then she thought about rethinking her decision.
"Or... maybe I actually do but not today, how about tomorrow?"
Her face immediately lit up, "tomorrow is good, thank you ma. See you then."
Amirah locked the gate behind her and went down the long road, she decided to call Hajiya.
"Assalamu alaykum- peace be upon you. How are you doing?" Hajiya asked as soon as she picked.
"Walaykum salam- and unto you peace. I'm fine, how are things at home?"
"Alhamdulilah- praises be to Allah. How is your husband? How are you feeling? You must be sore, pour that black oil into warm water and use it to wash yourself down there thoroughly."
Amirah rolled her eyes, "Hajiya I'm fine don't bother."
"Toh sannu. Where's your husband?"
"He went to work before I..." Amirah realized what she was just about to reveal but it was too late for Hajiya caught on it and Amirah was ahocked when she heard her laughter.
"So he stressed you that much? Muhammadu kennan."
Amirah just left Hajiya to her dirty thoughts, they spoke more before the call finally ended. Khadijah was next.
"Matar mu. What's up? How's marriage life Mrs Amirah Muhammad Balarabe?"
"This girl! Marriage life is nothing special abeg, I was still sleeping when he left for work."
"Was that how much he stressed you last night? That Muhammadu!" Khadijah said laughing.
"Are you sure it's not Hajiya that's your mother? You both have to get your minds out of the gutter wallahi. We didn't do anything last night and besides, we have separate rooms."
"Separate rooms?" Khadijah asked in obvious shock.
"Yes, separate rooms, I had even been the one to request it."
"Haba Amirah, I'm sure that wasn't what Muhammad had in mind when he asked you to marry him, which newly wedded couple have you heard of using separate rooms? Why don't you just go ahead and live in separate houses?"
"Are we like the regular couples? He forced himself on me."
"Be there treating him anyhow, your husband is a fine man and you are both now living in Lagos, I heard the girls there even prefer married men so be guided and treat your man right before another girl who treats him like a king snatches him right out of your hands."
"Toh let her snatch him, I'll just come back to Baba's house, I wasn't even ready to leave sef."
"Be careful what you wish for." Khadijah said in a sing song voice.

Night arrived soon enough and Amirah had noodles for dinner again, she was ready to go to bed even though it was just past 7, that was how much this place was boring her, the estate had steady lights but the television was yet to be set up. She was used to being in a full house with loud chatters all day long or she and Khadijah will just take a stroll to any of their friend's place, here she was running out of her mind.
Her phone pinged indicating a message just came in.
I'm sorry, I might be a little late, there's been an emergency at the hospital. I've sent someone to the house with dinner for you.
She couldn't help but smile at his thoughtfulness, so she replied with a thank you.
Thirty minutes later, a knock rang from the gate, she opened the door and saw a man standing outside, she couldn't deny how good looking he was,
"Hello, I'm Muhammad's friend Abubakar, your husband asked me to bring this for you." He handed her the blue polythene bag.
"Thank you." She said collecting the bag.
"You are welcome and hope my friend isn't troubling you much?"
She shook her head with a smile.
"I think you should know he really wanted to come home early to you but there was an emergency at the hospital and..."
"I know, thank you."
He nodded, "goodnight."
"Goodnight."

The next morning Amirah was woken up by an incesstant knock, she got up from her bed and headed to the door angrily ready to give her so called husband a damn piece of her mind.
••••• •••• •••• ••••Amirah opened the door angrily to reveal Muhammad dressed in a black thawb, water dripping from his beards."Assalamu alaykum." He said."I told you I was unclean, why in Allah's name are you here again?" She spat."I thought you'll be clean enough to pray, I'm sorry.""I'm not clean today, I won't be tomorrow neither will I be the day after nor ever. Just go ahead and perform your prayers letting me be.""Do you know Allah said the convenant that distinguishes us from the disbelievers is the prayer, so whoever abandons it has committed disbelief?""You want to teach me my religion now huh?" She asked with a sneer.
12th August 2014•••• •••• •••• ••••The days that followed their dinner date had Amirah terribly missing home, Muhammad was back to work, her only companion for a few hours was Mrs Jane and she tried to keep the woman longer than necessary."Is there anything else you want me to do?" Mrs Jane asked her eyes twinkling with amusement, Amirah groaned."No, I'm afraid I have to let you go.""I don't have anything else to do today so I'd be going to the market, would you like to join me?"Amirah's eyes lit up with mirth and an excited nod followed."Finally! An opportunity to leave this place."Mrs Jane laughed, "it's quite a fun estate, some of the doctor's wives are really nice."
12th August 2015•••• •••• •••• ••••Weeks had gone by since their wedding and now it was two months, some days Muhammad felt he had gotten through to Amirah and other days, he wondered what was wrong with her.His main problem with her was her refusal to perform the fajr salat with him, he had no idea if she performed the rest of the prayers but he was certain that she never woke up during the time of fajr prayers to perform it, even in her room. Her actions baffled him, prayer shouldn't be a problem for her, she'd been raised in the north and in a Hausa home for that matter so why was she acting strange?Tomorrow would be marking their two months wedding anniversary, he'd unfortunately forgotten the first month but he wanted to make up on their second, maybe he should take her out, somewhere fancy, buy he
•••• •••• •••• ••••Muhammad would have loved her to lash out at him, at this point he'll appreciate her rude way of talking to him, he'll appreciate anything but the silence. He saw the tears that gathered in her eyes right before she shut the door to her room, retreating. It's been two days and yet he had barely seen her, she wasn't out of her room before he leaves for work and she was already in her room when he gets back, the only sign she was in the house was his dinner that was always waiting for him on the table. He'd decided he couldn't take it anymore, the silence was killing him, the thought of not knowing what Amirah was feeling, how she was mourning. So that evening when he got back from work, he stormed past the dinning table where his dinner was and went straight to knock on her door.
•••• •••• •••• ••••Amirah landed in Kano hours prior and was now in a taxi heading off to her family house. It's been hours since the call from Zarah and since then she hadn't been able to reach anyone else.Zarah wasn't picking up, Khadijah's number wasn't going through, Hajiya's was switched off and she had chosen to steer clear of ya Lawal.Since her two older siblings had dumped the family problems on her, she'd had to step up, after all she was used to it.The house was eerily quiet she noted as soon as she stepped into the sitting room."Zarah!" She called out but was answered by silence, Amirah shook her head before going upstairs to her old bedroom, it was still as she'd left it: clean. She was on her way back downstairs when a door opened and Na'eemah poked out her head."Ya
•••• •••• •••• ••••Muhammad could barely focus at work, he kept getting distracted by the thoughts of Amirah, what was she doing? How were things at home? How was she coping? He knew Hajiya could be something else, the woman intimidated him and his parents didn't even like her much, intensifying the time she'd gone ballistic when he'd announced his promotion and transfer. He didn't know what happened between her and her co-wive but he didn't think it reached the extent of arresting her.He got into his office and disposed of his bloodied scrubs, he just got out of surgery. He immediately picked up his phone and called Amirah."Assalamu alaykum." She greeted in a tired voice."Wa'alaykumsalam. Sorry I didn't call earlier, I had a surgery, how was your journey?""Fine."
•••• •••• •••• ••••They finally got Hajiya to release Aunty amarya and Samir. Amirah was currently in her mother's bedroom."...and that was how Zarah brought Shittu, her supposed boyfriend to come and beat up Khadijah...""Which Shittu?" Her mother's expression changed to that of anger."Shittu that we all know." Amirah replied."Zarah has killed me!" Hajiya exclaimed before rushing out of the room and soon she heard shouting coming from Zarah's room. Amirah fell ontop the bed, she was sure she'd been drained of all her energy today.Amirah couldn't help the anger she felt towards Hamidah, although she could never openly express it for her elder sister was feared and highly respected. Hamidah hadn't even called to ask if they've resolved the issues in the house.
•••• •••• •••• ••••Amirah couldn't decide whether the blue gown or the black, she dropped both on her bed with a sigh. She usually wasn't good at decision-making and that was where she needed Khadijah the most but now there was still a strain in their relationship. Five days had passed and she'd barely seen her, she was feeling embarrassed to go to Aunty amarya's place, all because of Hajiya's remorseless act.Among the rest of her siblings, Amirah was the closest to their mother, sometimes herself she wondered if it was because they were similar in character but she was always quick to contradict her thought, she was better than Hajiya, at least she felt remorse if she found out she'd done wrong.Growing up, Amirah had despised her mother, the mere presence of the woman used to disgust her, she had no ide
Ya... Ya Adnan?" She asked stuttering, her eyes widened when from the moonlight illuminating the room, she noticed he was naked."sshhh..." He said quietly as his hand gently pulled her closer, she moved back from him, her heart beating fast."Wh... What are you doing?" She asked with a stutter. Amirah was sweating more now and she wanted this to be a bad dream, she also wanted to wake up from it already."Calm down, you'll enjoy it." His large palm grabbed her breast and she immediately pulled away with such force, it shocked them both.Adnan gave her a deafening slap that muted her for few seconds before she let out a scream that was interrupted with another deafening slap, she let out a whimper as tears ran down her cheeks."Ya Adnan please, please don't do this.""You'll enjoy this my little Mirah, you will."His hands were rough on her, pulling her b
April 3rd 2003"What's that noise?" Khadijah asked Amirah, they just got back from school and were yet to enter inside the house.Amirah shrugged as she chewed her biscuit nonchalantly while they both made their way into the compound.Hajiya was shouting and cursing aunty Amarya yet again, was there ever a day Hajiya didn't have an issue with aunty Amarya?"Not again." Khadijah groaned. Her mother was on a stool, sitting quietly as Hajiya dished her insults upon insults."Useless fool, stupid woman. Better go and look for where to sleep tonight because wallahi you won't step a foot inside this house." Hajiya swore. Aunty Amarya still didn't flinch.Amirah simply stared at her mother while Khadijah left and went to meet hers. Baba had travelled to Katsina the previous day, he was due to be back in one month time. She knew
"Ramadan shopping list completed!" Amirah announced before dropping the pen on the table dramatically."I've been thinking." Muhammad said coming out from the kitchen with a bowl of cereal, "we should get a house help."Amirah looked at him surprised, "why?""Which one is why?""Why should we get a house help?""Well to help you with the chores after all, we're having a baby.""Oh Allah, not again. I'm not sure yet so drop it until it's confirmed.""I can feel it, my instinct about this one is strong." Muhammad insisted with a broad smile on his face. It's been two months since Amirah had started seeing symptoms of pregnancy but she was scared of confirming so she'd told Muhammad about it yesterday and that's all he's been talking about."I'm tired of you already.""You'll come to the hospital for a test aft
•••• •••• •••• ••••Her therapist was a pleasant faced woman, she smiled at Amirah who was tell very nervous but somehow her smile seemed to ease Amirah's nerves but only a little. All along she'd kept asking herself what she was doing, numerous times she'd almost changed her mind and gone back to the safety of her home and enjoy her solitude but curiosity won against her fears so here she was in this annoyingly bright office."Hello. Please sit." She said motioning to the chair opposite her. Amirah sat down slowly."I'm Tara, how're you doing today?""I'm fine, good." Amirah said her heart racing, she wanted to leave. This wasn't right, she wasn't crazy, she should get up and leave now, Muhamm
•••• •••• •••• ••••The rest of the drive was silent, Amirah relaxed on her seat and closed her eyes listening to an old school hit playing. Muhammad regularly turned to stare at her, he felt bad about how he'd spoken to her and he didn't know what to do next.Ummul Khair was almost alone, she had sounded frightened when she'd called and he wanted to be there for her? How could he continue with his outing and go have fun knowing that someone close to him was in such state, it wasn't about him having feelings for Ummul Khair or anything of that sort, she was his friend and he wanted to be there for her.He couldn't deny that there wasn't a special tenderness he felt for her but nothing more, it may have resulted from the fact that she was always there for him and how pitifully lonely she was. She was his friend now and she knew stuff about him e
•••• •••• •••• ••••Few days after her breakdown, Amirah was feeling better, she and Muhammad planned to spend the day together doing lavish outings and she was excited for that.Muhammad had made an appointment with a therapist for her and it was in three days time, she had mixed feelings about that one but she was hopeful now that she was atleast getting somewhere."You still won't change your mind about us watching the scary..." The words died on his lips and his steps halted as he came into the room and saw Amirah's bare back, she hurriedly tried to cover up but it was too late. She'd come into the room to pick up her phone but then decided to change her blouse which was why Muhammad had barged into her room, he wasn't expecting to see her topless."What was that?" He asked coming close to her. S

"My Adnan would never do that on his own." She'd say, "something must have happened."And when he'd started touching seve

Apologizing seemed like the best thing but he'd requested for an explanation and in all honesty, she had none to give. She regretted what had happened with AbdulRahman, it wasn't worth the troubles aftermath. Amirah really enjoyed being alone, her team members had tried their best in the past one month to get as close to her as possible but it'd been futile.
