Chapter 36: He is out of your league!

LYRIC SPENCER POV

"You sure you want to do this, Lyric Spencer?" Gavin implored, panting.

Before I could respond, Iris's voice rang through the air, breaking me from his spell. "Gavin, take me home."

"What's wrong?" Gavin took a step back, shooting Iris a glare - a mixture of surprise and care.

"Nothing," she pouted, her lips in a cute manner. I felt a pang of jealousy. She could grab Gavin's attention whenever she pleased. If someone was going to win Gavin's heart, it was Iris.

He loved her. And she loved him.

"What happened?" His voice grew louder and stern. I could see the anger ripples on his face. He was going to punch whoever hurt his friend - his love.

Iris shook her head, tears filling her eyes. "No one, just that dude. He said I should give him a head, like I give to Aaron. That they are practically brothers since they are both hockey players."

Gavin whispered a curse. "That motherfucker." His eyes

I had grown accustomed to our online conversations, and I didn't want anything to change. I tried to shake off the feeling of unease and focused on getting some rest. But my mind kept wandering back to Viktor and our conversation. His words about guys losing interest in girls after sex lingered in my thoughts. I couldn't help but wonder if Gavin felt the same way. Was he only interested in me for physical reasons? The thought sent a shiver down my spine. As I drifted off to sleep, I couldn't shake off the feeling that I was in over my head. The next morning, I woke up feeling a mix of emotions. I was still reeling from my conversation with Viktor and the lingering doubts about Gavin's intentions. As I got ready for work, I noticed a text from Gavin: "Hey, Lyric. Want

The sweetness of the caramel hit my taste buds first, followed by the richness of the coffee. It was a perfect balance of flavors. I couldn't help but let out a small sigh of pleasure. Gavin smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "See, I told you it's good," he said. I nodded, handing him back his cup. *It's really good,* I typed on my phone. He grinned, taking another sip of his coffee. "I'm glad you like it," he said. Gavin took a bite of his creamy, chocolate cupcake, he swallowed and said "Let me order you the same. " I signed a thank you. Fortunately, Gavin understand some of my simple gestures. It would make tutoring him better. We sat in comfortable silence for a moment, sipping our coffees and enjoying each other's company. I couldn't help but feel a sense of ease with Gavin that I hadn't felt with anyone in a long time. Chapter 39: I'm Allergic to Fun LYRIC SPENCER POV Finally, it was New Year's Day. I didn't have a class with Gavin that day, and for some reason, it felt empty. Wren was spending the day with Grandma, while my aunt took her kids away for the day too. They went to New York for a job interview; Aunt Stephanie was trying to get a job away from Velmont. The police had not found Uncle, and she was worried Alessio would come for us next. I didn't blame her. Still, I couldn't leave Velmont, not yet. I had a year left in school and was only a sophomore. This house was the last thing my father left me; it had their memories engraved in the walls. I couldn't sell it, like Aunt was suggesting. I had to find a way to convince her, because the property would be in my name only when I turned nineteen. I couldn't lose that house, but losing my voice was worse. I stayed home, in my new pajamas, watching true crime documentaries in French. I was a sucker for subtitles. Wrapped

Chapter 40: Don't Mistake Your Physical Relation for Love GAVIN HAWKINS POV As we sauntered into the house, we were welcomed with loud, upbeat sounds, and the mixture of perfume and liquor in the air. I recognized half of the faces in the room, and the other half barely looked familiar. In the crowd, I spotted Emilia, wearing a thigh-length, strapless red dress. When her eyes crashed with mine, a smile curled up her lips. She waved and began walking towards me, step by step. As she approached, I noticed Lyric grow stiff next to me. I followed her gaze to Emilia. I knew they didn't like each other, and Emilia was her biggest bully, but it was the first time I saw Lyric being afraid of Emilia. Was I missing something? "Hawkins!" Emilia threw herself at me in a hug, enveloping me with her feminine perfume. It was so strong, I was sure it stuck to my clothes. "Look shabby, it's not your fault, just the plankton you have stuck next to you," she said.

It was like my whole world had come to a standstill, and all that mattered was the sensation of his lips on mine. I wrapped my arms around his neck, deepening the kiss, and he responded eagerly. His tongue explored my mouth, sending shivers down my spine. As he carried me to the living room, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and nervousness. I'd never been this intimate with anyone before, and I wasn't sure what to expect. I was a bit scared about going through with this. As he trailed kisses down my neck, I shivered with pleasure. His hands roamed over my body, sending sparks of electricity through my veins. I arched my back, pressing myself against him, and he groaned with desire. "I want you, Lyric," he whispered, his voice husky with desire. "All of you." Suddenly, Gavin pulled back, his chest h

Chapter 42: Broken hearted LYRIC SPENCER POV I lay in bed, feeling empty and hollow. I couldn't believe Gavin had left me like that, without even a proper explanation. As I lay there, I couldn't help but think about Emilia's words. Had I been foolish to believe Gavin truly cared for me? Was I just another conquest to him? A wave of sadness washed over me, and I let out a sob. I had given Gavin my virginity, and he had thrown it back in my face. Slowly, I got out of bed, my body aching from the night's activities. I looked around my room, taking in the messy sheets and discarded clothes. It was a mess, just like my heart. Taking a deep breath, I began to clean up the room. I wasn't going to let Gavin Hawkins break me. I would pick myself up, dust myself off, and move on. I had been through worse. When I finished cleaning, I looked at myself in the mirror. My eyes were puffy from crying, and my skin was pale. Hickeys were scattered across my body, especi

Chapter 43: You Have Taste Lyric Spencer POV The morning sun streamed through my bedroom window, and I braced myself for the day ahead. Today, I would see Gavin Hawkins again—not as the boy who had stolen my firsts, but as my student. Nothing more. I was not going to let him see how much he affected me. Standing in front of my closet, I carefully picked what I was going to wear. My eyes caught the dress I wore that night, and my heart ached. I pushed it aside and picked up my most comfortable clothes—a fitting blouse and black pants. Nothing too fancy. I would have gone with my bare face as usual, but my eyes were puffy. Luckily, tutorials on YouTube had helped me fix that. My hair was pulled back neatly, my makeup minimal but effective at hiding the evidence of the previous days of crying. With my bag slung over my shoulder, I grabbed my notebook and headed out the door, ignoring the growing pit in my stomach—a sour reminder of the usual butterflies.

Chapter 44: Something you... loveLYRIC SPENCER POV The days passed quickly, and it was my last class with Gavin Hawkins. Avoiding him had been difficult when we were only inches apart. As always, I arrived minutes earlier than the designated time. I spotted Gavin pinning a woman against a Lexus, his arms caging her in. Our eyes met, and something twisted in my stomach. I didn’t like it. They were so close—so close they could taste each other’s breath. I didn’t like how her perfectly manicured hands rested on his chest as if it was the most natural thing in the world. I wanted to look away, but I couldn’t. Gavin gripped her chin and pressed his lips onto hers. I noticed her entire body squirm against his, her toes curling as a soft moan escaped her lips. He deepened the kiss, and I felt my insides churn with discomfort—especially because his eyes never left mine. I didn’t like this. Tears pricked my eyes, stinging like a freshly peeled onion. I stared at him blankly, barely registering his laughter. "She meant lactose intolerant," he added, letting out a deep chuckle. I didn’t laugh. I wasn’t in the mood for jokes. My mind was too preoccupied with my fight with Gavin yesterday. What did he mean by what he said? Shaking off my thoughts, I left the counter to prepare the order Viktor handed me. My body moved on autopilot, my mind still trapped in yesterday’s argument. Then suddenly—pain. Hot coffee spilled over my hand, scalding my skin. The cup hit the floor with a shatter, but I didn’t scream. I didn’t even flinch. I only stared at the mess, the burning sensation barely registering through the numbness inside me. "Lyric, are you hurt?" Viktor’s voice was tight with concern as he hurr

I knew it the moment I looked up and saw Gavin’s face on the ice. The way his expression fell. The way his shoulders dropped like the air had been knocked out of him. He saw Viktor kiss me. And he thought I let it happen. I swallowed hard, trying not to cry, but the tears blurred everything—my screen, the rink, the people. I wanted to go to him, explain, scream if I had to, but I couldn't even speak. All I had was this goddamn phone, and I couldn’t get close enough in time. Everyone around me was cheering, celebrating, soaking in the win, but all I could hear was the pounding of my heart and the static in my head. Because on that giant screen… I saw her. Lyric. Smiling. Laughing. And Viktor… kissing her like he had the damn right. No. No. No. My throat tightened like it was closing up. My gloves suddenly felt like they weighed a hundred pounds. My chest ached, like someone had slammed a hockey stick straight into it. I couldn’t breathe. Couldn’t think. Couldn’t do anything but stare. She didn’t push him away. She didn’t even look surprised. He turned to Lyric, his expression softening. “Sorry to bother you. We’ll leave now.” Lyric offered him a tight, polite smile, though her mind was already spinning. She wondered how Gavin was doing. What kind of family emergency could make him leave his phone behind? And if his phone was really off... why did he reply to her text? Her eyes narrowed. Why was Gavin lying? A voice broke into her thoughts. “I saw Coach leaving. Is Gavin okay?” someone asked. Lyric nodded and signed, > “Okay. That’s great.” --- In the locker room, Gavin sat on the bench, already dre

Chapter 84 Third Person POV Finally, it was Friday—the day of the long-awaited match. Foreigners and out-of-town visitors filled the town stadium, eager for the game to begin. The scent of grilled hot dogs and burgers filled the air as vendors lined up their stands, taking advantage of the large crowd. Inside the locker room, the coach gathered his players for a final pep talk. The team was fully dressed in their uniforms and hockey gear, ready to take on their opponents. However, as they huddled together, the coach quickly realized someone was missing. "Where is Gavin?" he asked, his voice laced with irritation. The players exchanged confused glances, searching each other’s faces for an answer. "Shawn, you're closest to him. Where is he?" the coach pressed, narrowing his eyes at the player. Shawn hesitated before answering, his voice uncertain. "I don't know, sir. He hasn’t been picking up my calls or responding to my messages." The coach’s express

Chapter 83: Out of the game GAVIN HAWKINS POV The cold evening wind breezed past me, sending a shiver down my spine. I had driven over two towns to reach the Baby Dragon Casino, the location Allesio had assigned me to. The plan was simple: deliver over ten grams of methamphetamine. It was the most sought-after drug of the month, going for over a thousand dollars per 1.5 grams. I pulled over a few blocks from the casino, scanning the area for anything unexpected. By that, I meant the police. This place was notorious for drug dealing, thanks to its location by the famous casino. Politicians, celebrities, and the elite stopped here, not just for high-stakes games but also for a quick fix. Allesio was one of the biggest dealers in town. I was just the messenger. The deal was to dress decently—not enough to raise suspicion, but just enough to blend in while standing out slightly. With tight security and police dogs patrolling the area, the risk was high. I hoppe

It’s not my fault people don’t know how to take care of themselves." I rolled my eyes and turned away, stepping toward the main street. The town was quieter now, with most businesses closed for the evening. A few groups of people wandered around, probably visitors in town for tomorrow’s hockey game. Viktor easily fell into step beside me. “Are you walking home alone?” I nodded. "I’ll walk with you," he said casually, shoving his hands into his pockets. > "I know." His voice was light, but his steps remained firm. "But I want to." I didn’t argue. It had been a long day, and honestly, I di

Chapter 81: Gorgeous It was a little hotter than expected in the middle of January. The café was getting fewer and fewer customers during this time. People in Velmont didn’t drink much coffee in winter since snow rarely fell in town. The last time it snowed was at my sixth birthday party. I only remembered because Mama had kept the photos at home. I had clocked out of my shift earlier that day. It had taken a lot of convincing to get both Gavin and my aunt to let me work. The head chef, Sasha, was at the grill, her face red from the heat. She was also washing dishes in the back, her movements sharp with frustration. Then Michael stepped in. He stood by the threshold of the double doors, scanning the room like a hawk. "You, with the ugly hairband." I froze, pointing at my nose in question. "Yes, you," he clarified. Self-conscious, I touched the hairband resting atop my head. My mother had given it to me. It was beige and outdated, but I loved it.

Lyric was never meant to be part of my life, and it would take me a year to realize it. Because if something wasn’t yours, it would hurt you until you realized it. --- I pulled my Jeep into the driveway of Alessio’s house, gripping my keys tightly as I made my way to the door. Lyric and her aunt were safer in my house than they were anywhere in Velmont, but that didn’t mean Alessio couldn’t still harm them. I wasn’t going to let that happen. Running a hand through my hair, I tried to ignore the weight of the steel tucked into my jeans. I pressed the doorbell. A sharp voice erupted from the speaker beside the gate. "Who is it?"
