“I understand that she drowned that night, but did they ever find her body?”

Karen's eyes narrowed as she stared intently at Layla. “Why are you asking suddenly?”

“Oh, it's nothing serious,” Layla dismissed nervously. “I saw something that reminded me of her today; that's why I decided to ask.”

She would tell Karen more if she discovered anything fishy about Val.

Karen studied Layla's face a bit more before she responded. "No, it wasn't found.”

“But I think you should focus on getting rid of Valerie as soon as possible and quit wondering if Ashley's body was found or not," Karen advised.

Valerie stared at the unfinished project she spent her entire week on, a knot of frustration tightening in her stomach. It felt like she was hitting a brick wall, no matter how hard she tried.

She stood up and headed to Layla's office.
