Chapter 5

When I finally woke up, two days had passed and I was in the hospital.

As soon as I opened my eyes, I saw Joshua staring at me. Tears were streaming down his face.

Bloodshot eyes revealed he hadn’t rested in days.

“The doctor said your injuries were severe. You shouldn’t think about anything right now. I’ll handle everything,” he reassured me.

I glanced at the clock and saw the date, which broke me even further.

It was September 20, my due date, the day my child should have been born.

Once Olivia learned that I had lost the baby, she fled, fearing I would hold her accountable.

I wanted to report her, but Joshua stopped me.

Holding me tightly, his gaze turned fierce. “Letting the law handle this would be too merciful for her. Just give me a little more time. I’ll take care of it.”

Before I could respond, Joshua’s phone suddenly rang.

Coincidentally, a nurse entered to change my bandages.

Joshua shot me a glance before stepping out of the room to answer the call.
