BRIELLE POV
Mom and I had just finished from the nail salon after getting our hair done. We walked around the mall looking for an outfit to wear for the upcoming family dinner we had this weekend When mom had informed me of her engagement a few days ago, I was beyond shocked. She had barely known the man for a year and now they were engaged “What if he’s not the right one for you mom? Don’t you think it’s all too quick?” I expressed my concerns when she informed me of the engagement “The heart knows the right person when you meet him” that was her reply And those words have been stuck in my head ever since, if my mom believes he is the right one for her, then I won’t come between her happiness. This was the first time I was going to meet my mom’s fiancé. I was so eager to finally meet the man behind my mom’s smile. “Do you think this looks good on me?” My mom asked holding out a dress “Everything looks good on you, you have already bought so many dresses” I said “I know, what if I need a backup dress? What if- “Mom it’s not a wedding, it’s just an engagement dinner calm down, no what ifs” “Fine, then let’s get a dress for you then” “I already bought a few things I might like” I said holding out the five shopping bags we had bought from different stores in the mall “Alright then let’s get going, we’ve gotten everything we need” Mom said tucking her hair behind her ears ******* Few days had passed, and the weekend had arrived. Mom was in her room getting ready, she had been nervous the entire day. I put on a knee length red satin dress and silver heels, touching up my makeup a little bit before leaving the room. “You ready mom?” I asked knocking on her door before she opened it and walked out “I think I am,” She said and sighed with a worried look on her face. “don’t worry mom, tonight will go smoothly I promise” I smiled reassuring her “You look beautiful” I said, taking in her appearance, her short brunette hair, yellow dress which looked stunning on her. “And you’re more than a sight to behold” She replied and I smiled. We got to the building and my jaw dropped. “Mom, who exactly are these people?” I asked as we drove the car into the huge compound and the huge white mansion was just in front of us. The white mansion exuded grandeur and elegance, with its gleaming facade, towering columns and large arched windows. Set against perfectly manicured lawns, striking contrast of the lush green and pristine white showcased its opulence. Mom parked the car at the garage right next to the building and we got escorted to the entrance by a man dressed in a suit. The door opened to reveal a handsome man smiling at us, he had shiny black hair and was dressed in black pants and a beige Ralph Lauren shirt tucked in. My mom rushed to hug him and he pecked her lips “Honey, meet my daughter, Brielle. Brielle this is my fiance, Davis” My mom said The name struck a chord in me and suddenly I remembered where I had seen his face, it was among the Forbes 30, a list of the 30 billionaires in America. I knew his face looked familiar from the moment I saw him, of course the one man my mom met and got engaged to turned out to be a billionaire “Wait you're Davis Caldwell?” I asked “Yes and it's a pleasure to meet you” he said holding out his hands for a handshake “The pleasure is all mine, my mom won’t stop talking about you” I said shaking his hand “Likewise, she's always anticipating the day when we would all meet” Davis said smiling and looking at my mom adoringly “I've always wanted you two to meet but on a special occasion, and now what better occasion than when we're about to become family?” my mom said blushing “Come on, let's go to the dining table and have dinner,” Davis said, holding my mom’s hand and taking us inside. As we stepped inside, we were greeted by a soaring foyer illuminated by a dazzling chandelier made of crystal and gold, casting a warm glow over the polished marble floors. Rich deep hues adorned the walls, accented with gold leaf detailing that caught the light beautifully. In the main living area, oversized plush sofas upholstered in luxurious fabrics surrounded by ornate coffee tables and rich wooden cabinetry. Gilded mirrors and exquisite artwork hung elegantly, reflecting the ambient light and adding to the grandeur of the space. The dining room was a striking statement of extravagance, featuring a long mahogany table set for ten, complete with crystal glassware and golden flatware. A stunning chandelier hung above, illuminating the intricate plasterware on the ceiling, with different exquisite dishes plastered on the table. We all sat around the table, Davis sat at the head of the table while my mom sat next to him at his right hand side, I sat a couple of seats away from my mom. “Where is your son? I can't wait to meet him” Mom said His son? my mom never informed me that he had a son. “He's supposed to be here, but of course, he's late as usual” Davis said and rolled his eyes The next minute, I found out who they were talking about. My high school nightmare, my ex bully. My soon to be step brother walked into the dining room. I should have known, I knew his family were rich in high school but I had no idea he was the son of the freaking billionaire Caldwell. It's him, he came into my life again. After everything I did to get him out of my head, the trauma he caused me for years even after graduating high school. “Hello Lizzy, it's nice to finally meet you” he said as he got to the table before his eyes met mine. I could see the expression of shock he had in his eyes, his eyes lingered on me for a second before he proceeded to sit directly opposite to me. “Lizzy and Brielle, meet my son, Mateo Caldwell”BRIELLE POV“Lizzy and Brielle, meet my son, Mateo Caldwell” Davis said proudly“Unfortunately he's late as he didn't seem to honour my wishes to arrive on time” he quickly glared at Mateo“Im sorry father, I was caught up with work and traffic, at least I'm here now” He said as he sat do“It's very nice to meet you, you look so much like your father” Mom saidAnd she was right, there was a striking resemblance between Mateo and his father, the shiny black hair, the strong jawline, and similar facial features.“It's a pleasure meeting you and….” his attention turned to me“Brielle, my name is Brielle” I quickly said before he gave away the fact that we knew each otherMy best friend is going to have a field day when I tell her about everything that's happened.“Brielle, nice to meet you” my name rolled off his tongue slowly and it instantly irritated me, I had no appetite for dinner again.I was so annoyed that I was going to get up and go outside but my mom told me that it was rude t
BRIELLE POV“No.Freaking.Way” “What is it? Ryan asked seeing the excitement on my face“You know the job I half heartedly applied for a few weeks ago because the deadline was the next day?” I explained“Yeah, the Job you were so sure that you were not even going to be considered”“Yes I actually just got an interview at the company tomorrow” I statedRyan hugged me and we jumped around excitedly hopping like little girls.“You need to get ready, you literally just got the interview of working with one of the most famous companies girl, how did you get so lucky? There were literally so many applicants” Ryan said.“That's why I had given up all hope, there were thousands of applicants. I have to start preparing, I don't even know what to say” “Don't worry girl, you got this” Ryan assured. The next day had come quickly, the interview was at eleven am in the morning and I had woken up by seven am just so I wouldn't get late.I wore a black slim fitting skirt and white long sleeve accord
MATEO POVOf all the people to meet, I had never expected in my wildest dreams to meet her. When my dad had told me he had engaged the woman he had been seeing for the past few months, I was upset. How could he just make his decision to spend the rest of his life with a person he met in less than a year? I had thought nothing of his fiancee but a gold digger. Then he told me that his fiancee was coming over for dinner to his place for the first time and I had to be there. I planned to get rid of the woman and expose her as a gold digger to my dad but I got shocked instead.Of all the women he could have met, it just had to be the mother of the one girl I couldn't get her name off my head for the past eight years.I instantly recognized her the moment I set my eyes on her, her facial features had barely changed but everything else did.I used to remember her as the cute chubby hazel jaded eye girl whenever I thought of her, but now she was more grown up, slim and more fierce looking.I
BRIELLE POVThree days have passed since I went to the interview.I layed on my bed watching Gossip Girl on my laptop and scrolling through social media on my Ipad.I had just finished editing a content video for tiktok and Instagram, I had a lifestyle, aesthetic account. I didn't show my face, I posted little vlogs and aesthetic videos of my lifestyle and so far I have gathered quite a lot of fan base. And I was given a name by my viewers, Soft girl aesthetic which I made as my bio on all my socials.I had about forty thousand followers on tiktok and twenty thousand on Instagram. Ryan had advised me to go full time into content creation as I had already started getting recognition from brands and brand deals.I enjoyed creating little vlogs of my life and editing it, I had never considered taking the content creation seriousI was simultaneously talking to Ryan on the phone.“Girl, why would you do that? A boy came to talk to you and you dissed him? Was he ugly? How cute was he?” She
I sat on edge on my seat waiting for his response“Im sorry, I want to keep my private life a secret and I'm sure she wouldn't like her name out in public”I heaved a sigh of relief, thank goodness. I was sweating thinking about how reporters were going to be storming out on my door the next hour asking dumb questions and invading my privacy.I was about to call my mom on the phone and just then she walks in through the front door“I was just about to call you” I said“Yeah, I’m here now, how have you been?” She asked“I’ve barely been seeing you mom, you just can’t wait to move in with your lover, can you?” I teased her“Oh shut up and stop teasing your mother” She blushed“Have you watched this?” I showed her the tv where Davis and the host were now talking about business issues.“Oh yeah, I was watching it on my car drive home”“I was so scared he was going to reveal our names” I said“Of course not, Davis likes to keep his personal life a secret and I cautioned him beforehand as w
MATEO POVI was with my acting secretary about to go to a very important meeting when my dad called and ordered me to close early and come home as he has something important to announceHe barely did this so I was worried and curious about what he had to say.I drove fast and got to the house in less than thirty minutes. I entered and met him there.“Oh I thought Lizzy was going to be here too?” I asked, a bit disappointed in not seeing them“I’ve already called her, they’re on their way” He saidFew minutes later, mother and daughter both walked in side by side.I took a quick glance at Brielle and she practically glared right back at me.She looked stunning in her blue dress and silver jewelry’s, I don’t know why I noticed but I did.Her long wavy hair was styled today and it looked shiny, her smile radiant as she spoke to my father but I knew that smile would turn to a grimace if she stared at me.“So Lizzy and I are getting married in three weeks time” Dad announced “WHAT?” Lizzy
BRIELLE POVDavis called me aside and I just knew something was off.“Listen Brielle, I know you and Mateo are not the best of friends” He started..He knew, he knew about our past. But how did he find out? Did Mateo inform him?“If you actually do know our past, you’d know we’re nothing near friendship” I said crossing my arms on my chest.I didn’t care if I might be rude right now, I just had a feeling that I wouldn’t like where this conversation was heading. He sighed then continued “yes I’m sorry, you two are more like ex enemies right now and I’m aware it’s Mateo’s fault, he hurt you and I apologize on behalf of his past mistakes”I sighed, this was going to be a long hard conversation“Listen Mr Caldwell, there’s no need to apologise on his behalf, I’ve already forgiven him and hold no grudge against him, if you’re asking for us to become close like friends or sibling, I’m afraid that won’t be possible” I lied.“No, id never ask you to compromise for my sake, all im asking is th
BRIELLE POVShe entered the office and I went in after her.Mateo looked surprised to see me.“What are you doing here?” He asked“What do you mean by that? You sent me a Job offer, remember?” I replied“Which you haven’t replied to since over a week” He retorted“Well I’m here to reply you now, I agree to work for your company” I remarkedHe expressed a face of shock but it was gone within a second.“Well I can’t say I expected this, it took you a week” he curtly said“Great things takes time” I shrugged“So do you want to resume immediately?”“I’d like to be given a tour and to know my duties as your secretary first sir” I said dragging the “sir” sarcasticallyI watched him break out in a sweat. He called Olivia to show me around and introduce me to everybody and also inform me of my duties as his new secretary. That’s when I found out that Olivia was his acting secretary, no wonder she was upset. She was angry about the fact that I was taking over her temporary position.Olivia gru
BRIELLE POV“Need any help?”I turned around and saw him.He stood tall, his presence commanding without effort, the sharp blue suit perfectly tailored to his frame. The fabric hugged his broad shoulders and defined biceps. His jet black hair was impeccably styled, the glossy strands catching the light as if sculpted to perfection. He looked like someone who turned heads without trying, even if he had ragged clothes on.I was starting to wonder if all his suits were tailored just for him because they always fit him so well.“How are you here?” I asked, looking up to him.Why was he always present at my worst moments? I watched as his eyes swept over my entire outfit, from my face down to my legs. A faint smirk flickered across his lips, there for only a fleeting second before it disappeared.“You look…”“Save the insults, i really don't care and already have much concerning matters at hand”He stayed silent, somehow I wished I kept quiet and listened to what he had to say.“Why are y
BRIELLE POVMateo had indeed found the person that posted about his identity the next day.Unfortunately it was too late and the media had already broadcasted the news on national television.Davis was upset when he found out, he reassured my mother that he was going to make sure no one knew about her identity unless she was ready. The board of directors were upset about the news as it had caused a disruption from the clients but the situation was quickly handled.Unsurprisingly, sales have been coming in alot and we have been busy at the office as a result of that.I guess being related to a famous billionaire did always have advantages. The wedding preparations were in full swing and my Mom made me her maid of honour. Juggling the responsibilities of assisting with the arrangements while managing work had kept me busy.Ryan and I helped Mom choose the flower bouquets and arrange the wedding venue.Davis had generously flown in a famous fashion designer from Paris to make the bridesm
BRIELLE POV I entered the building and tapped my employee ID on the security gate which enabled me access into the office. The employees stared at me, whispering and gossiping as they watched me pass I’m not going to say I don’t know the reason why, the reason was clear, my outfit. I wore pink office pants paired with a white cropped long sleeve button down shirt, red stiletto heels and my coach tote bag hanging on one arm. I had no idea if wearing such colours were allowed and I didn't care. I saw some colleagues on their phone, looking intently at it. I walked all the way to my office. The telephone rang “Can you please come inform me of my schedule for the day?” Mateo asked after picking the phone. I literally just entered the office, I haven't even had a moment to breathe or sit and he was already calling me in for work. After a few hours into the day. My phone rang and Ryan was the one calling. For an Aesthetic nurse, she seemed to have a lot more time on her
MATEO POVDad had called me out on Saturday, I found it strange when he called me and told me he wanted to hang out with me later.I drove to his house after breakfast “What is it? Why are you acting strange?” I asked the moment I saw him sitting down on the couch with a coffee on one hand and newspaper on the other“Good morning to you too son” he deadpanned.“It is unlike you to ask me to hangout so just go straight to the point and tell me what you want” I asked“Can’t a father ask to hang out with his son?” He asked, rhetorically.I rolled my eyes and sat next to him“Where do you want to go?” “I have to go out to try on some wedding suits, I just thought it’d be fine if you come along” He said“You could have saved yourself the stress and just ordered the suits to be delivered home, you know?”“I just thought it’ll be more fun to hangout with my son. Lizzy and her daughter are doing a girls day out so I want us to have our own boys day out too” Dad Of course. It had to be some
BRIELLE POVMom, Ryan and I had finished from the spa and sauna. She had booked an appointment at exquisite bridal shop. When we got there, they took us to a room where we all sat and they brought the most gorgeous wedding dresses out on a mannequin. The dresses were long, looked exquisite and expensive.“So which one do you like between them?” I asked her as we all look at the dresses displayed in front of us“They are all really gorgeous and look so good” Ryan chipped in“Yes, I’m finding it hard to pick as well! I might just wear them all” Mom joked and we laughed. She tried on the dresses and they did fit her as she was slender and petite.“Mom so which one is it?” I asked “I don’t know, I like them but I don’t love them. The dresses are not giving me the wow factor. I need a dress that will take my breath away at the mere sight” Mom saidAt times my mom tends to be dramatic but I understood what she meant. She didn’t like any of the dresses.“So do you have any more dresses to
BRIELLE POVIt's been four days since I started working for Mateo, I still haven't gotten used to working for him at all. This job was draining me.Sometimes he can be very demanding and expect me to be on his beck and call around the clock. It was very draining. He was also calm. When I wasn't able to understand his requests, he explained them to me calmly. I wasn't expecting this, I had expected him to be more of the evil boss like in movies.Maybe his plan was to be nice to me at the beginning and reveal his true colours later on.He probably wants to convince me more into staying at this job so it would be too late to leave, that had to be his plan because I had no excuse for his behavior.I had just finished working and clearing out his schedule for the weekend as he asked, we were now on lunch break.I usually don't eat at the company's cafeteria as I wasn't really interested in meeting the other people. Especially after meeting Olivia.I wanted coffee and we had a coffee maker
