Chapter 5

Penulis: Little Saber
Leah brought me to the hospital while Lucas, busy basking in his sweet moments with Nara, had already forgotten I was even there.

Every now and then, I overheard the nurses chatting about Lucas and Nara's latest outings. Meanwhile, I lay in the hospital bed like a flower on the verge of wilting.

My time was truly running out, but I still had unfinished business.

I refused the doctor's proposed treatment. As soon as my wounds began to heal, I discharged myself and went home. However, after just a few days, the entire house had changed.

Every corner had been redecorated to match Nara's taste—inside and out.

All the little things I had placed throughout the home had been tossed out and replaced with so-called art pieces.

When the maidservants saw me return, some looked away in guilt while others smirked with thinly veiled delight.

I was stopped at the door. "Ms. Elena, Mr. Lucas gave orders that if you returned, you'll need to call him first and ask for permission to enter."

I was just about to explode with anger when the buzz of a chainsaw echoed from the garden. I had an ominous feeling. "What's going on in the garden?"

"Oh, Ms. Nara said that the tree is taking up too much space. She's having it cut down to make room for a swing."

My heart dropped. That tree was the one Derrick had planted for me before he died. I could still remember his gentle smile as he dug the soil. "Elena, when I'm not around, let this tree keep you company."

Nara had once secretly read a letter I wrote to Derrick. She knew what that tree meant to me. Now, she wanted to destroy it.

When I was very young, I lost both my parents and grew up in a border shelter. It was Derrick who brought me back to his home. Leah took pity on me and agreed to let me stay.

As a noble lady by birth, Nara was the perfect match for Lucas in status. When she heard about my past, her eyes shimmered with tears. "You've really had a hard life. But everything will get better."

The adults all praised her for being so considerate, but the moment their backs were turned, I heard her speak to her maid with a mocking voice.

"That lowly Omega… How dare she live in Lucas' home? It's disgusting to even look at the country bumpkin."

Yet she would glance over at me with sympathetic eyes after every cruel prank, pretending she had nothing to do with it.

Back then, Derrick spent most of his time living with his grandfather in another pack. He had no idea what I was going through, and I was also too afraid to tell him.

They were already giving me food and shelter. Was I not lucky enough?

I held my breath and did my best in everything, hoping that one day, I could grow strong enough to leave this place and live on my own.

Whenever I felt sad or upset, I would go out to the garden, sit under that tree, and talk to Derrick.

"Derrick, I had roast chicken today! It smelled so good!"

"Derrick, I got first place in the exams! Amazing, right?"

Derrick had planted the tree so that it would grow up with me, and I never wanted it to know I was unhappy. However, one day, Nara said she wanted to build a swing in the garden. She wanted to cut down my tree.

Lucas had arranged for people to do the work, but I clung to the tree with all my might, screaming at the top of my lungs. "No one touches it! If you want to cut it down, you'll have to cut me down first! Go ahead!"

That was the first time I completely lost control, crying and screaming in Lucas' home.

The commotion brought the adults running, and Leah spoke up sternly. "Nara, listen to Elena for once. If you want a swing, just find another spot."

Nara did not show any displeasure. She smiled brightly and said, "It's fine. I already have a swing at home. Lucas, come play at my house, then!"

I thought the matter would end there, but while I was away this time, Nara finally had the chance to cut the tree down.

When I rushed into the garden, the tree had already been sawed through the trunk. Its once sturdy body lay broken across the grass with the branches scattered in pieces.

All that remained was a bare, lifeless stump.

Nara stood beside it and gave me a vicious smile.

"I've already cut it down. What can you do about it? This is my home with Lucas now. I call the shots. You stole Lucas from me for three years. It's time to give him back."

Tears streamed down my face. I launched myself at her with everything I had.

"You witch! I'll murder you!"

Then, I wrapped my hands around her throat, squeezing her fragile windpipe tight. All I could see in my mind was Derrick's gentle smile the day he planted that tree. The only tree he had left for me—the one that had grown up with me—was killed by this wretched woman!I lost all control. I did not care that Nara's face had turned purple and that her eyes were rolling back. If I could not let this hatred out, I would explode. The maidservants were terrified by me. They rushed forward to pull me off, but even as they dragged me away, my feet kept kicking her.Nara broke down in tears—and this time, it was for real.

My consciousness drifted back to the summer when I was 17 years old.I had grown into a young woman then. Even in coarse, plain clothing, I still drew the attention of countless boys.Nara's malice had never lessened. In fact, it had gotten worse with age.Petty tricks like throwing dead rats at me, placing blades on my stool, and cutting my hair no longer satisfied her.One day, she brought a group of her upper-class friends and blocked me on my way home from school. A pimply boy tore at my clothes, exposing my bare skin. He smacked his lips and blew his foul breath in my face."What a gorgeous little thing… You look so fucking tempting. So, who's going first?"Several filthy hands reached toward me. I broke free and swung my schoolbag at them, but they grew angry and swarmed me again, pinning me to the ground. Meanwhile, Nara and a few girls stood nearby, watching this happen like it was a show."Hey, seriously? You can't even handle a bumpkin like her? You're pathetic."The

I stayed in the hospital for a week. Leah told me that Lucas had been searching for me everywhere, nearly going mad.At last, he found me lying in the hospital bed. His eyes were bloodshot, but it was hard to tell whether it was from anger or sorrow. His voice was rough and hoarse as he asked, "Late-stage cancer? Why didn't you tell me? Hah, Elena Whitlock, were you planning to die without telling me?"I smiled. "Of course not. I still need to divorce you."I then handed him the mate bond termination form I had long prepared. He froze in silence for a moment, then let out a cold laugh as if I had betrayed him in the worst possible way."You were gone for a whole week, and I searched for you like a madman. While I looked for you, I was also afraid you'd come back and feel sad again, so I cared for that tree every day. And now, you're telling me… you want a divorce?"He reached out, gripped my waist, and leaned down until our noses nearly touched. "Elena, do you even have a heart? H

Lucas tried to pull his hand away, but I held him in place, refusing to let him move.Nara pressed her lips together in silence while I gave a soft smile."Lucas, when we were kids, Nara always wanted to play with you. You must've known she was bullying me all along, right? If you don't want a divorce, fine. Then do something for me. Kick her out of our house and take back everything you gave her."Why did so many people resent Nara and mock her when she returned to the Silvertail Pack?It was because she had always looked down on others, trampling over them without a second thought. If she left Lucas and lost his protection now, she would fall into hardship again.Nara panicked, and she started shaking her head furiously."No! Please, no! Lucas, I can't live without you. I'll die, I really will! I was young and foolish back then. I'm sorry. Elena, I'm truly sorry."She dropped to her knees in front of my hospital bed without hesitation. Tears poured from her eyes, making her lo

My voice brimmed with pride like that of a true victor. "Nara, even though Lucas chose you, he promised to give me the diamond ring from the safe. What can I say? He's too sentimental. Even after divorcing, he still insists on giving me the best. Honestly, I suspect he never loved you at all. Maybe he just… pities you."Nara was instantly provoked, and she gritted her teeth in fury. "Elena, when it comes to dealing with men, you'll never beat me. Just wait. That diamond ring will be mine and mine alone!"In her mind, love was measured in material things. That was why she had been pushing Lucas to buy her all kinds of extravagant jewelry. Hence, the ownership of that diamond ring was undoubtedly the ultimate symbol of triumph in her eyes.My body was frail, but my spirit was unusually energized. The hunt was about to begin.I had installed several hidden cameras throughout the house, all accessible from my phone.Through the app, I watched as Nara clung to Lucas, pouting and cooing

The wedding day finally arrived. I sat in front of the live stream, waiting. On screen, Lucas wore a white tuxedo, looking like a prince out of a fairy tale as he extended his hand toward Nara.Hand in hand, they walked down an aisle blanketed in red roses, with petals falling from the sky. They exchanged rings and whispered their vows. The romance was so suffocating it felt unreal. That was when it happened. The massive screen behind them suddenly began to play a video. It showed a secret chamber. Back then, the breakup between Lucas Fenrir and Nara Boris had caused an uproar within the pack. Later on, he married me only because Nara despised me.I was nothing more than a low-ranking Omega—born into insignificance without power or status. However, I happened to share a striking resemblance to Nara, the daughter of a noble family in the Silver Shadow Pack. That resemblance became her greatest humiliation, and Nara loathed me with every fiber of her being. As for Lucas, he just wanted her to suffer.Everyone seemed to think that I was madly in love with Lucas and was willing to throw away everything for him. In truth, I was only drawn to that face of his—one that looked exactly like his brother's.The wedding gown delivered by the servants was far too tight and nearly suffocated me. The wedding shoes were too large. They kept slipping, and I almost tripped on stage several times.Yet all of this was because they had been custom-made for Nara.My awkward appearance drew burs

Lucas, who never went shopping, pulled me along to the marketplace. He said that the wedding dress I wore did not fit and that he needed to order a new one for me.I knew it was just an excuse for him to see Nara, but I did not care in the slightest. As we stepped into the plaza, a burst of laughter erupted from the crowd. In the center of the commotion, Nara held up an apple and placed it on her head. There was an arrow already stuck in it.Several scar-faced warriors from the pack surrounded her, using her as live target practice while drinking. Her face was pale, and her delicate frame trembled slightly. Tears shimmered in her eyes, but none fell as she held them back with stubborn pride. The moment Lucas saw her, he pressed his lips together, and every trace of his smile vanished. Gossip about Nara drifted through the crowd."Nara's family went bankrupt. They couldn't afford to fund her world tour, so she came crawling back in shame.""Can you believe it? She's selling thin

She's been living alone in the lakeside villa, and I'm just afraid someone might harass her. Go ahead and make the arrangements. She'll be staying here for the time being."After speaking, he patted my shoulder and turned to leave. The corners of Nara's lips lifted uncontrollably. She smiled as she gently touched the wolf fang necklace around her neck."Elena, sweetheart, I'm so sorry. I asked Lucas to go home last night, but he insisted on taking care of me. Oh, gosh.
