LEONARD'S POV:

The rest of the day passed in a blur of productivity and playfulness. Even as Evelyn worked, the kids stayed entertained, scribbling on spare sheets of paper or quietly exploring the office. Evelyn managed to balance her responsibilities with ease, her maternal instincts shining through. Once in a while, her secretary attended to her questions and some files.

By the time evening rolled around, the children had started to tire, their laughter softening into yawns. Evelyn looked at me, her eyes filled with gratitude.

“Thank you, Leonard. For everything.”

“What? Thank you, Evelyn. It's the other way around,” I said, smiling at her.

The day had worn on, and it was getting late. Every staff member had left the building, except for the security and us.

“Evelyn, you’ve filled my life with so much joy. I never imagined my life without you. You’ve brought me a peace I never had. Please, be with me forever,” I said, my voice vulnerable as I looked at her. She was everything I needed, and I knew I had to hold on to her no matter what.

“Babe, I love you so much, and nothing is going to keep us apart,” she said lovingly. I took her hands in mine and kissed them.

Then something caught my attention—the kids. They were silent. I turned impulsively to check on them and saw that they had fallen asleep.

I turned my gaze back to Evelyn, and we started laughing.

“They’re so adorable,” she said.

“I agree,” I replied.

“Now let me have a moment with my babe,” I said, pulling her off the office chair where she sat and giving her a warm embrace. She allowed herself to relax in my arms. I kissed her on the forehead, then once more on her lips. As I tried to pull back, she clung to me and deepened the kiss.

We shared a passionate kiss for a few minutes, and the intimacy between us grew. As I moved closer, she struggled to suppress her moans because of the kids nearby. My hands found their way under her shirt, gently caressing her.

“Leonard,” she moaned softly.

“Yes, babe, say my name again,” I groaned in her ear, making her gasp.

I adjusted her and placed her on the office table, slowly unzipping her pants and pulling them down, leaving her breathless. I bent down and spread her legs wide enough, letting my tongue tease her gently. Her warmth sent goosebumps over my skin; she tasted like rose water.

She held my head between her thighs, gently pushing me deeper while still trying to suppress her moans. Everything about her actions excited me.

I stood up, picked her up, and carried her into the bathroom, where we shared a sensational quickie. When we returned, the kids were still sound asleep. Together, we finished the leftover files. By the time we were done, it was past 6 p.m.

We gathered the children and left the office. Luckily, they didn’t wake up until we dropped them off. Once we did, we hit the road and drove straight home.

When we got home, we went to check on Mr. Wyatt. We met him with the caregiver, and he seemed just as we had left him in the morning. We spent some time with him before heading back to Evelyn’s place to freshen up.

As soon as we got inside, we didn’t waste time heading to the bathroom.

“I want some dessert,” Evelyn said unexpectedly as we sat on the couch.

I was taken aback. “Babe, seriously?” I asked.

“That’s what I want tonight,” she said, pouting her lips.

“Alright,” I said, reaching for the car keys. I placed a kiss on her forehead. “I’ll be right back.”

“Babe, I want to come with you,” she said, stopping me. But I didn’t want her to be outside at that time. It was too late, especially with her current condition.

“Babe, you need to rest,” I said gently. But she insisted. After some back-and-forth, we ended up leaving together.

As we drove past a mall, she suggested we pick up some items for the next time we’d visit the kids. I agreed, and we went inside. It was fun shopping—we giggled, played, and took cute pictures. I took out my phone and uploaded a photo of us to my social media page.

It was the first time I had posted a woman on my page. But to me, she wasn’t just a woman; she was my woman. My only true lover. The mother of my unborn child.

I smiled and slid my phone back into my pocket.

“This is so beautiful,” Evelyn said, interrupting my thoughts.

“Of course it is,” I replied, taking the necklace she was admiring and placing it on her neck. It suited her perfectly.

After we finished shopping, we packed our bags, went to the car, and drove off.

“I don’t want to know any more about dessert,” Evelyn said, cutting into our conversation.

“I want ice cream,” she added, pouting again.

“Alright,” I said, smiling.

We found a spot for ice cream, went inside and ordered. It didn’t take long for them to package our treats, and soon we were on our way. Evelyn ate her ice cream playfully, resting against the car door with her legs stretched across my lap as I drove.

Then her phone started ringing. She hesitated before answering. “It better not be work,” she muttered before checking the caller ID.

“Babe, do you think something might be wrong with Dad? The caregiver is calling me,” she said, the earlier excitement on her face replaced by worry.

“Hello, ma’am. Please, you need to come home now. I'mMr. WyattThethe caregiver’s urgent voice came through before the line went dead.

Out of desperation to get to the house, I adjusted myself and sped up my heart racing. And my mind is spiraling with different thoughts.

I looked at Evelyn who was now close to tears. She looked so pathetic, tic and it bromy her heart.

EVELYN’S POV:It had been over two months since the failed surgery. My dad had been living on what felt like a miracle ever since. Each day with him was a gift, a fragile thread holding him here. Today, it was my turn on the hospital bed. Inside the labor room, I lay ready—or as ready as anyone could be—to meet the life I had carried for nine months. The pain I felt was incomparable, beyond anything I’d ever imagined.I clung tightly to Leonard’s hand. He stood beside me, his calm voice trying to pierce through my haze of agony. “You’re doing so well, babe.
