“Sorry, Mr. Ronald? Are you okay?” Eva asked, looking at him in concern. He looked lost in thought, as his eyes were fixated on the necklace in her hand making her feel uncomfortable.

“Sir?” She called again this time, bringing him out of his thoughts.

“Yes, uhm… it's that neckl…” before he could finish his statement, his phone vibrated making him knit his brows in what looked like disbelief.

Ronald felt his body freeze at the picture before him, how could she do that to him? He clenched his fists angrily trying to control the fury boiling inside him.

“Sorry but I have to leave, don’t forget about tomorrow, I’ll be waiting,” Ronald said, all his attention taken by the new matter at hand. He had to get to the roots of things.

Eva shook her head, not sure what to say to him, he looked as if someone had angered him, and she didn’t think it wise to push him.

“Thank…” Eva hummed, but it was too late as she was talking to his already disappearing back.

Ronald had never felt so angry in a long time, how could Amanda of all people decide to betray him, just when he was about to take such a big step in life with her. Just then his phone buzzed Garret Rock, his best friend’s number showing on the screen.

“Hey man, I’m sorry you had to see that, but I couldn’t watch you making such a mistake,” Garret said, pausing as he waited for Ronald’s outburst.

“Look man, I don’t think I want to talk about that right now, I just want…”

“Say no more, meet me at this club I discovered I’ll send you the location, I have ways of making you forget,” Garret suggested, his voice full of excitement.

Ronald shook his head, unable to fight the smile that graced his lips on his best friend’s silliness. He was like his blood brother; they knew each other inside out.

And with everything going on, Ronald knew after everything that had happened, he needed that drink. Ronald could barely believe that a few days out of California, and she was already cheating.

Dawn came early for Eva, tossing and turning all night not able to get a certain face out of her mind. Eva pushed herself out of bed, slowly creeping through the corridors sure not to wake her son or Amy.

Though for Amy that was a negative, she couldn't wake up due to noise, usually coming back so late at night tired and beat.

She had to wake up earlier than usual having in mind she had a special delivery to make. She hurriedly glanced at her wristwatch seeing it was barely five o’clock. She glanced into her son’s room furrowing her brows as she saw the empty bed and covers hanging on the floor.

Eva walked carefully towards his bedside, her heart thumping in her heart violently. She gasped as she saw her son lying on the floor, his face watery from what seemed as if he was sweating. His little body shaking on the floor defenselessly making Eva feel herself fall into panic.

“Baby? Baby, what’s wrong?” she called placing her hand on her son’s forehead.

“Oh my, you’re burning up, oh my God, oh my…” Eva mumbled out in panic as she took her barely responsive son into her arms.

“Amy! Amy!” she called hurrying to the main door, in all her years she had never experienced Jay having such a fever.

“Oh God, what is with you and waking me up this early? I hardly slept, and my head is killing m… Eva? What’s wrong with Jay?” Amy whined at first only to freeze on the spot as she spotted the sick boy.

At the office, Ronald swirled in his chair as he held his head between his hands. He didn’t make a habit of partying or getting drunk regularly but last night he just couldn’t resist.

The only ticket for him to get his inheritance was gone. He scoffed to himself at the thought, that was the reason he never regarded himself as the marrying type.

Women always ended up either cheating or f$$king a man up, he could say that from experience.

The door to his office flew open making him look up suddenly praying that it was the coffee girl. For some reason, he couldn't stop thinking of her despite his troubles.

To his disappointment, his girlfriend, Amanda walked in smiling at him innocently. Her long curly red hair making her face look dangerous to him after what he had discovered.

“What the fuck are you doing here, Andy?” Ronald asked, his voice low as he tried hard to hide his anger. Surprisingly hearing his angry tone didn't stop her as she swayed her hips walking towards him all smiles.

“Hey babe, I missed you, I wanted to come and surprise you,” she replied, throwing her hands around his neck.

Ronald felt his body turn cold as she placed her treacherous lips on his making him want to strangle her. He gripped her by either side pulling her off him.

“Babe, I know you're stressed up by work but let me help you relax,” Amanda said sitting on his lap as his hold loosened.

Being with her over the years, he had grown fond and weak to her innocent and tempting ways. He couldn't help but let her have her way most of the time.

She looked fragile and being from a rich family she had known nothing but a smooth and spoiled life. If it weren't for her father bringing his business partner he couldn't look at her type twice.

“Andy please, I don't want you close to me right now I need to finish some urgent paperwork,” Ronald said avoiding the obvious confrontation that was banging his mind to be let out. He wanted to see just how much she would push with her pretense.

“Babe, please, R, I need you,” she mumbled, letting her hands run through his chest down to his stomach.

As her hands tagged on his belt, Ronald couldn't take it anymore as he lifted her face to look at him.

“Do you think I'm stupid? Two years Amanda, two years, and you decide what…you've had enough of me?” Ronald asked, his voice rising in anger as he stood up, setting her off balance.

Amanda blinked her long eyelashes innocently looking at him in confusion.

“Babe, what are you talking about?” She asked innocently, her eyes turning watery.

Ronald scoffed audibly discovering only then that her ever ready tears over the years were nothing but pretense. To think he would fall into her trap after seeing them fall down her cheeks each time.

“Don't pretend with me, Andy, if you won't tell me what you've been doing with Evan? My business rival of all people, Andy!” Ronald said clenching his jaws together as the thought of it alone made him want to punch anything on sight.

“What? Babe? That's a lie, what are you talking about? That's a conspiracy against me,” Amanda whined, tears flowing down her cheeks like a river.

“You know I even thought we could finally get engaged next month but look at you, huh? What didn't I give you?” Ronald asked his heart, twisting painfully at her betrayal.

Amanda's glassy eyes grew wide at his statement, she wanted nothing more but to stay by his side as planned, but it looked like she fucked up.

She had to fix it, she couldn't lose the opportunity to prove herself to her father.

“Babe, look whatever you heard it's a…”

“Is this a lie too? Huh?” Ronald asked, showing her the pictures of her and Evan.

Amanda gasped opening and closing her mouth like a fish out of water, speechless; breathless.

“Now, it would be better for you if you would get your ragged self out of my office and my fucking life!” Ronald shouted making the whole office fall silent as if cowering to the fury in his voice.

Amanda flinched taking steps back in fear, she had never seen him that angry before. But how could she let him go that easily…

“Babe, please…”

“Did I fucking stutter! I don't want you or any other woman near me! Freaking traitors! Out!” Ronald said not even noticing his office door was open with the least expected person at the door staring at him in awe and horror.

On arrival at the hospital, Eva hopped out of the car heading for the entrance. The ride to the hospital composed nothing but stealing glances at each other, but none uttered a word. Hurrying through the corridors Eva sighed in relief on seeing Amy in sight. As Amy saw her, she practically ran towards her, her eyes wide in panic. “Eve how are you? What did you do?” Amy asked, looking at her friend in concern. Before Eva could respond Ronald came into sight making Amy stride towards him. “What did you do to her this time, narcist?” Amy called, pointing an accusing finger at him not caring if she was creating a scene in the hospital. “Please Amy calm down, I'll explain everything later,” Eva said, holding her back as she pleaded with her eyes. “I’m sorry for what happened Miss Amy, but that’s all over now,” Ronald explained, smiling at her slightly. He remembered his front desk receptionist kept telling him of a doctor who kept leaving messages requesting him to call him back.
