RAYLA
By the time I got home, the news of what happened at school already spread like wildfire. Every servant was snickering in my direction and whispering amongst themselves as I walked past and went into my room. I flung my backpack on the bed along with myself. It doesn't help that every time I close my eyes, I still get flashbacks of what happened in the cafeteria, I couldn't decide which one to be mad about. Brandon rejected me and then accused me of planning it with Damien or Damien kissing me in front of the whole school and then declaring me his mate! Nothing makes sense anymore, I buried my face into one of my pillows, screaming into it. I lost how many minutes I had been screaming for until a knock at the door interrupted my screaming section. Fearing it was Damien, because I would do anything to avoid seeing him now. As the door opened a second later, my mom walked in. I immediately stood up, knowing why she was here. "I can explain..." Even though I have no idea what I was explaining, I have done nothing wrong. Damien was the one who lost his mind and kissed me in front of the whole school. "Alpha wants to see you in the family room, Damien is currently waiting there." She turned to leave but I ran after her, blocking the exit. "You believe me right? I would never do anything that will bring shame to you or Alpha Jordan for that matter. This is all Damien's fault and it's part of his childish pranks." I pleaded desperately, hoping she would trust me enough to defend me against whatever Jordan might accuse me of. "I don't think this is a prank Rayla and if you want me to be on your side, then you probably should stop lying to my face." She gently brushes past me as she walks out of the room. I took a deep breath trying not to panic, maybe I'm the one overthinking this. I will clear the misunderstanding with Alpha Jordan and hope things will go back to the way it was. I've faced enough humiliation for one year in a day! "Good day Alpha." I greeted a few minutes later. I couldn't bring myself to look at Damien where he stood against the wall by the entrance. What's with him and walls? "I'm sure you're aware of the rumours parading in the pack. I want you two to tell me it's just a rumour, so I can shut it down." Alpha Jordan begins, looking back and forth between the both of us. "It is true that Brandon rejected me, I don't know why because he offers me no explanation. Damien was only being a big brother by stepping in to help me, I guess the situation was misunderstood and it escalated into these filthy rumours." I responded, meeting Jordan's stare and completely avoiding his son's own. Before his father could answer, Damien chuckled, pushing himself away from the wall. "Is that the story we are going with... Mate?" He spat out the word "mate" while glaring at me. "Mate?!" Our parents shouted at the same time. I ignored them, facing Damien. "Will you stop lying already? Everyone knows we cannot be mated to each other! We are siblings for crying out loud!" I shouted, hoping somewhere along the line, he could come back to his senses. "Why do you keep denying it? If I wasn't your mate, your body would have rejected my touch especially after Brandon just rejected you. You couldn't even touch Brandon, in the moment of pain, your mind, body and soul craves your mate, which is me, that’s why you couldn't feel the pain of Brandon's rejection after I kissed you." "Enough!" My mom interrupted, alarmed as she looked at us. "Damien, I'm sure you must have misunderstood the situation. Rayla is your sister, therefore you cannot be her soul-mate." "She is not my sister!" Damien growled at my Mom, causing his Dad to stand up. "We are not blood related, let me prove it to you!" He reached for me but Jordan blocked him. "Don't you understand what's going on Damien? You might not be blood related but we raised you two as siblings, as blood related and incest is forbidden in this pack and in my household!" "I don't fucking care what your rules are!" He hissed back at his father. "Rayla is fucking mine." "Jordan, I believe we should talk to the children separately. All these yelling and shouting at each other is clearly not working." As soon as her mate agreed, my Mom was pulling me away, not after flinging a disgusting look in Damien's direction and that pissed me off. I let go of her hand once we were in my room. "Wow Mom, have you been dying to look at him that way all these years?" I snapped before I could get a grip on my tongue. She spun around so fast, giving me a disbelieving look. "Are you seriously going to defend him? Tell me he's right?" She demanded, causing me to swallow hard. "I'm not defending him Mom, I just don't like the way you looked at him." "He deserved to be looked at that way! It's perverted, disgusting and sick to look at one sibling in a way he was looking at you. Tell me everything he's saying is not true." She pleaded, grasping my hand. "I don't know!" I cried, twisting my hands out of hers. "Nothing makes sense anymore, okay? Brandon tells me he loves me and then he rejects me in front of the whole school and now my stepbrother is claiming to be my mate!" "If he is your soulmate, you would know." She pointed out, ignoring everything else I just told her. "I'll give you a few minutes to recall all that happen and then you will answer me honestly." I closed my eyes, recalling the moments back at the cafeteria when Damien kissed me. I remember touching Brandon but his touch burns, yet I still crave for my mate. Each time I touched him, I kept getting hurt until Damien kissed me. At first my body was shocked but then it shut down and accepted his kiss, like I have been waiting for it my whole life. My face heated just by thinking of the memory and when I opened my eyes, my mom was staring back at me with tears in her eyes. "Mom..." What should I say? "Don't!" She cried. "Don't you dare say it." "I...I..." "You don't understand do you? Do you have any idea how the world will look at us now? How will the entire pack treat you now?" I snapped then. "How? They would treat me worse than they did before? How is that anything new? You are suddenly interested in my life after ignoring me the minute you mate with Jordan! If you weren't gushing about how much he loves you then you are gushing about how much Jenna looks like him. It's like I become completely invisible to you!" I screamed, letting it all out. "What? Are you saying it's my fault you are mated to your brother?" She cuts me off thinking I wanted to deny it when in fact, I wanted to remind her that Damien wasn't my brother. "You know what? I'm taking full responsibility for it, which is why I'm ordering you at once to reject him!" . . . TBCRAYLAWhat? I intended to say the word out loud but instead it just echoed in my mind. I stared at my Mom, gone were the soft composed features of her face and now replaced by worried lines, she has unshed tears in her eyes, this made her look older than her age making me feel terrible. "You heard me right? You are going to reject Damien and then we are going to put all these behind us like it never happened. I'll personally make sure that these rumours remain purely a rumour." She continued taking my silence as an agreement. "What?" I finally muttered the word out loud. "You care about me so much, you are going to let me go through two rejection in one day? Have you stopped to wonder why the moon goddess paired us together or all you and Jordan are worried about is your reputation?" I demanded. She grabs my shoulders, shaking me for a few seconds. "I don't think you understand what's at stake here. Do you have any idea how people would look at you? They will tag you two weirdos an
RAYLA Something clicked in my mind and without giving it any further thought, I pushed him away. This was wrong! My mind couldn't stop screaming how wrong it was and the fact that Damien doesn't seem to care made everything so much worse. "We can't..." I blinked away the tears pooling in my eyes, while turning my back on him.The intensity of his gaze brought out something I could never be brave enough to admit to myself, talk more of anyone. The fact still remains that, no matter what this things between us was, we were wrong, we didn't make sense and we needed to put a stop to it. His hands came to rest on my shoulder, slowly turning me around to face him. "We already established that we can't but we will anyway." He pointed out, lowering his head to kiss me. I jerked away. "Damien please! Think about our parents, the pack..." I paused sensing that my words were getting through to him so, I decided to try another approach. "I know you don't care about your reputation because th
RAYLA His tongue swept lazily across my bottom lip, causing me to let out a breathless moan in response. He kissed me like he had all the time in the world to do so, no hint of the fierce possessiveness he had shown in front of everyoneClosing my eyes, I let myself slip into the moment. In that moment, nothing else mattered but the gentle and playful way he nibbled on my lips. The way his tongue swept across my upper lip, sending waves of pleasure down my body until he bit me! "Ouch!" I wretched my mouth from his, shoving at his chest to get him off me but he didn't budge. "That was for thinking you could run away from me. You are mine Rayla, therefore you need to understand there is no running from me." He finally pushes himself off, looking down at me with an amused expression. I shot him a glare as I got up from the ground, wondering what the hell is wrong with me! I just made out with my step-brother on a dirt filled ground, how shameless can one be? "I'm not yours." I hisse
RAYLA After pacing around in my room for another five minutes, deciding whether or not to join everyone for breakfast. I knew I couldn't avoid them forever but each time I saw my Mom, it felt like the greatest betrayal to look into her eyes and act like nothing happened. Avoiding her was only going to make her suspicious, so getting my shits together, I glance at the mirror one more time and hurried down to the dining hall. Deep down, facing everyone at school is where the real courage comes in. "Good morning." I acknowledged everyone, announcing my presence. At my voice, Mom and Jordan looked in my direction with a welcoming smile. "I was starting to think you wouldn't join us." She remarked, gesturing for me to sit next to her. Even without looking in Damien's direction, I could feel his eyes on me and it took every self-control I possessed at that moment not to look at him. Also, I was afraid that if I do, Jordan and Mom might see right through our bullshits. "I agree t
RAYLA My friends stood protectively by my side and I felt myself tense up, I didn't have the mental capacity to deal with Brandon on a Monday morning. I took a deep breath, glancing back and forth between my friends, I nodded for us not to give in regardless. Just as I was about to walk past Brandon, he shoved me back, causing me to stagger. Fiona immediately darted forward but I stopped her, not wanting her to engage with him, this was between Brandon and I. "Is there something I can help you with?" I asked, finally breaking the silence. "The nerve of you to show your face after the trick you pulled with your step-brother. I should have listened to everyone and shouldn't have accepted an Omega as my mate. You have truly proven to be as pathetic as your ranks are!" He snarled, his fist clenching in anger. The crowd laughed at what he said and I felt my face flushed with embarrassment. "Look Brandon, I don't want to fight with you. You rejected me in front of everyone so? What mor
RAYLA "Come here..." I said after taking a deep breath, he let me lead him towards one of the desks and obediently sat down without questions, the action made me smile inwardly. I dropped my backpack beside him, fishing out for the first aid kit I always carried with me. I set everything down on a different desk and got to work, cleaning his wounds so they could heal quickly. "Don't tell me you carry that around, what are you... A nurse?" He teased breaking the heavy silence between us. I glanced at the wall clock to find out how much time I have left before the next class starts. "Not really." I muttered, not wanting to go into details about the reason.Sensing my hesitation, he lifted my face upward, forcing me to look at him. "You're hiding something and before you deny it, you should know I can feel every one of your emotions through our mate-bond so, don't lie to me." I made a frustrated sound at the back of my throat, letting go of his hand. "Please don't make me talk." Put
RAYLA I came out of my hiding spot after both Jordan and Damien had left the family room. However, Mom was still seated in the same position when I made my entrance noticeable. Pretending like I just arrived, I looked around as if searching for something. "What's that all about? Are they fighting again?" "What do you think? See? This is one of the reasons why I urged you to reject him. That boy is nothing but trouble." She responded, standing up. "He had someone beat up some poor girls." My eyes snapped up to hers in disbelief but then I had to remind myself she didn't know the full context of the situation but still, I hated the way she was quick to paint Damien the villain. I know he wasn't an easy guy but to outright just make him the villain in a story she doesn't know the full context made me a bit disappointed in her. Not wanting to say or do anything that might make the situation worse, I nodded sorrowfully before making an exit. I quickly freshened up and after making su
RAYLA My heart dropped when I came down for dinner only to see it was just Mom and Damien by the dining area. I haven't fully walked in yet, but I could feel the tension in the air. I looked around for Jordan, half expecting him to walk through the door any second from now but sadly, he didn’t. I pulled out a chair, glancing in Mom's direction as I sat down. "Where's Jenna and Alpha Jordan?" I asked her. "She retired early and Jordan is occupied with Alpha duties, he won't be joining us." She answered, smiling at me. Despite how tense the situation is, I was a bit surprised to find her in a good mood. Not wanting to do anything that would ruin that, I ignored Damien as well. "While we are still on the subject, we will be joining him at Moonshadow pack tomorrow night for some charity event, please be ready." She announced, breaking the uncomfortable silence. "I'll pass." Damien responded without heat and my eyes immediately snapped to Mom's. Her face set on a grimace immediately
