260: We want you for breakfast

“Blake,” I knocked his door softly, “Open up, please,” I pleaded with him.

Last night, Blake and Logan had returned much earlier than we’d expected. I’d jumped for joy as I hurried downstairs to welcome them, but my smile dimmed when I saw the disgruntled look on Blake’s face as well as the blank expression on Logan’s.

As you’d expect, I tried to find out why they were wearing long faces, but Blake just squeezed my shoulder and walked past me before making a beeline for his room.

I wanted to go after him, but Logan advised me to give him some space to grieve like a man before telling me all about how the ambush went south. To my understanding, Blake felt ashamed that they’d drawn up an elaborate plan and gathered their best soldiers and war trucks only to find out that the hideout had been vacated by the Shahatos.

Frankly, I understood why he felt bad. It was mostly from a place of guilt, one that circled around his inability to avenge his people when he’d once been a traitor
