Watching Blake and Logan get geared up for war unsettled me deeply.

Earlier on I’d been onboard, all ten toes and ten fingers down with the ambush plan they’d recited to Alex and I. But now? Now that I was reliving how torn to bits my heart was when I saw Alex covered in blood and fatal injuries outside the gate hours ago, it seemed foolish to encourage them.

If Blake or Logan returned in such a state, I’d go into anaphylactic shock.

“I think we should all stay in tonight, to look after Alex. And then when he’s all better, we can revisit the ambush plan,” I tried to hide the skepticism in my voice, but the knowing looks on their faces told me that I’d failed woefully at that.
