Chapter 6
LEO’S POV The black sedan parked in front of a large storey building and I looked out the window of the car, staring at the red coloured house. ‘So this is the place…’ I thought to myself as I looked at the address and the picture of the house sent to my phone. Without further ado, I got down from the car and walked towards the house. I opened the door but there were numerous rooms in the apartment. However, the information I received from Fred contained the exact room number she stayed in, so I had no problem navigating my way through. Upon reaching her front door, I knocked but no one answered. I knocked again but still, nobody answered. ‘Maybe she’s asleep. I shouldn’t disturb her.’ I thought to myself but after checking the time, I noticed that it was still 8:30 pm. Not many people sleep that early, except for kids. I tried to open the door but it didn’t open. Due to it being a key lock, I couldn’t tell whether it was locked from the inside or the outside. ‘Either she’s asleep or she’s in the club. I should go check her there.’ I thought to myself and returned to the car. However, I saw a young woman come from outside and entering her room. She turned to me and gave me a long stare. “Good evening. You’re not from around here, are you?” she asked and I returned a soft smile. “No, I’m not. I just came to see someone.” I replied, but this woman was a bit nosy. “Who’s that?” she probed. However, rather than finding it annoying, I felt like I could gain information from her this way. “Well, her name is Maya. Maya Rodriguez.” I said and her eyes widened a bit with realization. “Oh, her? I don’t think she’s home yet. Have you tried calling her phone?” she asked and I smiled. “I don’t want to disturb her. What time will she be back?” I questioned and she sized me up a bit. “Hm… she should be back in thirty minutes. At most, an hour.” she replied and I smiled. “Thank you so much. I’ll come back later.” I said before leaving. I returned to the car and decided to wait. Although it would be uncomfortable, I didn’t mind. I waited for a long while, my eyes peeled for any trace of the woman who made me happy for a night. However, I didn’t see her anywhere, even after an hour. I looked at my watch and noticed that an hour and thirty minutes had passed since I had been waiting. ‘This is awkward, where might she be?’ I thought to myself as I felt that something was amiss. Immediately, I faced the driver. “Take me to the Eclipse Club.” I ordered and with a nod, he started the car and drove to the location. On the way to the club, I kept watch on the streets, hoping to at least see a sign of her or something. But to no avail. We reached the club and I stepped out of the car and entered. I noticed that it wasn’t as lively as I expected it to be, but there were still s few strippers around, and disco lights danced around like flashes. I walked towards the bartender and told him my purpose here. “Hey. I need to speak to your boss. Is he here?” I asked but he shook his head. “No sir. He left a little while earlier.” he claimed and I sighed. “What about Vixen?” I asked and he shook his head. “Sorry, sir. But neither of them are around sir. She also just left with him.” he claimed and my ears twitched. “Wait, they left together?” I questioned and he nodded before leaning closer to him and shielding his mouth with his hands, to block people from seeing. “I can tell you something interesting, if you drop a tip.” he claimed and I sighed before taking out a dollar note from my wallet and discretely passing it to him, “I don’t know where they went, but I recall him carrying her to his car. She seemed unconscious at the time. She was admitted into the hospital about five days ago and got discharged earlier today.” he explained and my eyes widened. “She was admitted to a hospital? Why?” he asked the bartender but the latter shrugged. Clearly, he had no idea. “I’ve told you all I know.” he said and I couldn’t but feel more unease than before. “Thank you for the info.” I claimed before leaving the bar. He thanked me but I wasn’t bothered about him. I entered the car and called the Jared. Unfortunately, it went straight to voicemail. “Hello, this is Jared. Please leave a message.” his recorded voice played and I quickly hung up before calling the next person in mind, Fred. “Hello, Alpha Leo. Have you found her?” he asked. “No. She’s not at home. Neither is she in the club. I heard from the bartender that she was taken away by Jared. His phone keeps entering voicemail.” I claimed and Fred sighed. “What would you have me do, Alpha?” he questioned. “Send your men to search for her. I heard that she was admitted to a hospital and just got discharged today. She was even out cold when I heard Jared carried her to his car. Search every hospital in the city. I want her found at all costs.” I ordered and Fred affirmed. “Yes, Alpha!” he hung up the call and I sighed as I stared out the window, wondering what was going on, and why Jared was doing. Immediately, I turned to the driver. “Let’s go home.” I grunted and the latter obeyed, zooming off through the illuminated streets. ************* MAYA’S POV I slowly opened my eyes and like always, they lacked clarity. The first thing I saw what a bright light, making me close them again, and tears welled up from them. It was a little aching, and I couldn’t just get used to this white light which seemed to be glaring at me from above. ‘What’s… what’s going on?’ I thought to myself as I tried to move my hands but to no avail. It was like something was holding them down. I looked down and as expected, something was holding me down. A brown leather strapping, tying my hands to the bed’s iron. Not just my hands, but my legs too. “Nrgh.” I grunted, as I struggled to set myself free from the strappings that bound me, but I was advised not to by a voice. “It’s no use, Maya.” the familiar voice said and I turned to the direction the voice came from. However, everything around was so dark, and only the lamp above me was the only lighting in the area. Suddenly, I heard footsteps echo around the room. The footsteps got louder and I suddenly saw a flicker to light and noticed the white smoke that followed as the person lit up his cigarette and took a long puff. I grunted as I suddenly remembered how I was betrayed by the person I called my friend and injected with a sedative. It all came back to me, and my expression changed from fear and confusion to rage. “You! Where am I? What is this place?!” I yelled but he laughed. “A place where no one can ever find you.” he claimed. However, I couldn’t believe that and I had to try what I could to get help. “Help. Somebody help me!” I screamed at the top of my voice but he only laughed. “It’s useless. No one can hear you over here.” he said before laughing even more. I gritted my teeth and struggled even more. “Why are you doing this? What do you want from me?!” I cried but he smirked. “What I want from you? Ha, how naive of you, Maya.” he said as he paced around me, “Did you really think that I’d let you go after coming this far with me? I remember a young girl in despair coming to me for help. I found potential in her and decided to help her. I gave her a job and even helped her with her father’s medical bills. In return, she worked for me and pulled in more customers. She became my ace. Unfortunately, she grew sloppy and made a mistake. Now… here we are.” Hearing his words, my heart sank. I knew all too well the young girl he spoke about it. Everything he said was true, as much as it pained me to admit it. After I was unable to procure a job in the commercial sector, I had no choice but to go to the entertainment sector, something I didn’t need a degree for. However, he didn’t want to take me before but I couldn’t accept the fact that I was completely useless to the point that nobody wanted me. So I begged him and even offered my body, which he used as a tool for business. “But I… I worked off all my debt. I drew in more customers and got even more money for you. Why do you have to do this to me, Mr Jared?” I argued but he wasn’t convinced. “Silence, fool. Are you so naive to think that I’d just let you go that easily when you haven’t even completed your debt, much less draw in extra money? Ha, surely you jest.” he scorned. I clenched my fists and gritted my teeth as I was teeming with anger, but also regret. “You men really are scums of the earth…” I growled but he smirked. “Men? You only have issues with men? What about your friend who betrayed you? Is she a man too?” he uttered and I gasped. That was right. Kelly too was in on this stupid deal. She stabbed my neck with the sedative. “Hello, Maya.” I heard another voice from the side and I abruptly turned to the person. Turns out it was the same person who had stabbed me in the back. The person I called my friend, Kelly. Unlike what I expected, she had no shred of remorse on her face. On the contrary, she was even smiling and seemed happy with what she did. “Why, Kelly. Why do this to me?! I thought you were my friend?” I yelled, tears trickling down my eyes. However, she gave me a look of contempt. “Your friend? And what idiot would be a friend to a loser like you?” she replied and my heart skipped. Those words cut deep. Mr Jared appeared beside her and finally revealed his face. “Kelly here was never your friend to begin with. I just told her to pretend to be so that she could stay close to you and keep an eye on you. She was basically watching my asset for me.” he explained and it all began to come back to me. The moments we shared together, her first time in the club and how I taught her how to strip dance and charm customers. The way we had parties and had sleepovers. Was it all… a lie? Was it all just for her to watch me?! “No… No no no NO! You can’t. This has to be a lie. Why do this?” I screamed as I failed to accept what was being revealed to me. It was like everything I knew for the past few months was being turned upside down. “Sorry, love. Nothing personal.” Mr. Jared laughed and Kelly chuckled before turning away to leave. “No. Please… don’t do this…” I uttered but I couldn’t do anything but watch them leave me. “Noooooooo!”Chapter 7LEO’S POVI paced around my office in the mansion. My mind raced like a turbo engine, anxious, curious, but also, angry. Something was going on under my nose, and I needed to know what it was. If Maya should turn out to be in trouble, I would have to help her. But how can I do that when I don’t even know where she is. I held my phone in my hand, waiting for a call or a text. Anything. It was midnight, but I couldn’t sleep. My men were out looking for Maya and I awaited their response. While I did this, I began to anticipate what could be happening. If Jared wanted to sleep with her, why carry her out of the club, and while she was unconscious. ‘Was she drugged? Or worse… does he wish to sell her for trafficking purposes.’ I thought and simply thinking about Maya being exchanged as a slave or prostitute made me clench my fist so tight that the whisky cup in my hands shattered. However, the pain I felt now was little, compare to what I was ready to make someone else feel if
Chapter 8 LEO’S POV Right before my eyes, I could see Maya lying on a stretcher. Her hands seemed to be strapped on the bed, and I could see her struggling to set herself free. However, this wasn’t beyond what I had imagined before coming here. What really stunned me, was the man standing beside her. He was putting on a white lab coat and had a syringe in his hand, about to inject Maya with some unknown substance. My eyes suddenly caught sight of Maya’s teary eyes, and I could almost tell what she was thinking. ‘Please… save me.’ I could hear Maya’s voice in my head, or perhaps it was my imagination. Either way, this was unforgivable. The man in the lab coat suddenly halted his actions and looked at me, “What are you doing here?! Who allowed you to enter into this pla—” before he could complete his words, I grunted and surged towards him before appearing right beside him. I was so fast that I doubted if he could see me. He jerked slightly before slowly shifted his gaze down and h
Chapter 9MAYA’S POVMy eyes slowly fluttered open, revealing the world to me. However, it wasn’t exactly what I expected. The ceiling was a bit distant, and my back seemed to be laying on something soft and fluffy.“Where… where am I.” I uttered, as my vision still seemed a little fuzzy. I turned my gaze left and right and my eyes darted around, observing my surroundings and trying to make sense of everything around me. Just as I was close to discovering this, I suddenly came upon a figure in the room. He sat next to me on the bed and he had a knife in his hands. My eyes widened and in that instant, I regained mind clarity and crawled back.“Aah… please don’t kill me!” I screamed. The figure tuned to look at me and I found his face somewhat familiar. “You’re awake. I was just about to finish peeling these apples for you.” He said with a deep, yet, soft voice that sounded melodious in my ears. At the same time, I saw that the knife in his hands were being used to peel apples in a pla
Chapter 10LEO’S POVClosing the door behind me as I left Maya’s room, I found the doctor waiting outside for me, like I had instructed.“What’s the situation.” I asked but he gave me a deep sigh and bowed his head before looking at me again. From his facial gesture, I could tell that it wasn’t good. “I have good news and I have bad news. Which one do you want to hear first?” He questioned.“Good news.” “She’s stable, and she’ll be fine.” He reported.“…and the bad news?” “The baby might not survive. Her delivery will be of high risk, and the more she pushes and stresses herself, the more she’s ruining things. There are already substances that are harmful to the baby in her body. We’re lucky the fetus is still alive in there.” he explained and I found myself sighing. Meanwhile, I was extremely infuriated and I clenched my fist so hard that my knuckles began to crack and my palm started bleeding.“Damn you Jared!” I cursed underneath my breath, but the doctor’s voice brought me back
Chapter 11MAYA’S POVMy eyes opened instantly, and in a short instant, I regained mind clarity. It was like I had just woken up from a nightmare. I sat up and looked around but I realized that I was still in the same room that Leonardo… or whatever his name was, had put me in. ‘I have to get out of here.’ I thought to myself and the first thing I saw was the kitchen knife and a plate with three apples on it, only one of them was peeled and sliced. It was at this moment that I realized something, I was hungry.I quickly grabbed the apples and munched on them as fast as possible before picking up the knife and walking towards the door. The apples weren’t enough to quench my hunger, but they at least could get me moving. I tried to open the door but it was locked, ‘What should I have expected?’ I asked myself before looking around. I sighted a wall clock and I squinted my eyes to see the time. It was 2 o’clock at midnight, a perfect time to escape. With the door locked, I turned to th
Chapter 12LEO’S POVLike a rag doll, I tossed Maya on the bed. She got up and wanted to fight me but I grabbed her wrist and pinned her on the bed again. “Stand down, Maya. You’re in no condition to be putting yourself through all this. Think about the baby you’re trying to keep alive inside you.” I roared in her ears before letting her go. Although she didn’t struggle, it didn’t mean that she still didn’t disagree with me. “I already told you, I don’t want to stay here, yet you keep holding me prisoner. What do you want from me?!” She questioned, and I wanted to give her a quick reply but I reconsidered immediately and swallowed my words. “You cannot leave this place. I can’t allow you to do that.” I replied but this annoyed her.“Why? Tell me, why?” she roared.“Because I said so!” I yelled back in anger, my eyes turning red and my yell sounding more like a monstrous roar than a normal yell, making her shrink back in fear. Seeing that she had calmed down, I sighed and massaged my
Chapter 13MAYA’S POVI was restless throughout the entire night. It wasn’t because I was eager to leave Leo’s mansion, but I was completely worried about how I was really going to pay back the money. Five million dollars wasn’t a joke. My entire savings wasn’t even up to a million dollars. “Oh my god… what am I gonna do.” I paced around my room, as I couldn’t even get a good night’s sleep. I kept on trying to think of a way to make money within three days so that I could pay him and get back to my freaking life. ‘I want my freedom, but the price is too high!’ I cried to myself and began to consider Leo’s second offer. Perhaps I should have considered that offer before making my decision. ‘Why am I so stupid?’ I yelled at myself before sitting angrily on my bed. ‘That bastard. He’s deliberately doing this to make me feel bad and not have a choice. I was so stupid for falling into his trap.’ I grunted to myself before groaning again. How was I supposed to get five million in three d
Chapter 14MAYA’S POVI was slowly beginning to lose consciousness, and no matter how much I struggled, the man holding me seemed to be far more stronger than I was. As a matter of fact, he was unusually strong for his figure. In a fit of survival, I grabbed his arm and tried shifting it from my neck to give myself some breathing space, but to no avail. His hand didn’t budge, and I was losing strength and consciousness fast. I continued until I could no longer must the strength to struggle anymore. I couldn’t scream and couldn’t do anything at all.My vision was turning blurry, but I had a glimpse of the man’s face. His white teeth shone in between his overgrown beards and he seemed to be enjoying this.“I wonder how he will feel when I take away his mate.” He uttered. My mind began to go blank, and I was about to breath my last breath when suddenly, a figure pounced on the man and they both crashed in the kitchen, making me fall. I coughed and wheezed, trying to regain my breath and
Chapter 38: Maya. The day of the party arrives like a storm—fast, loud, and impossible to ignore. I stand near the large kitchen doorway, watching as people buzz around the estate like frantic bees. Servants rush past with trays of food, clinking glasses, and floral decorations that seem far too grand for what should just be another celebration. I pull my shawl tighter around me, feeling smaller with every passing minute. These kinds of gatherings, with their shimmering gowns, confident laughter, and overindulgence, are not my world. I feel like an intruder. A shadow among the light. The grand hall transforms into something unrecognizable, filled with chandeliers that glitter like a thousand stars. The air carries the thick scent of roasted meat and expensive perfume, a suffocating mix that settles in my throat. I move quietly, keeping to the edges, where no one will notice me. Today, Alpha Leo’s pack will celebrate some political milestone—one I didn’t ask about. One I don’t belon
Chapter 37. Leo's POV I don’t know how much longer I can endure this. Courtney's voice grates against my ears like nails scraping against glass. She’s been at it for hours—complaining, arguing, pushing her way into a place she doesn’t belong. My room. My sanctuary. “I’ve always shared this space with you before,” she huffs, standing at the edge of my bed with her arms crossed. The light from the lamp softens her sharp features, but I see the stubborn set of her jaw. “Why should tonight be any different?” Because you’re not my mate, I think bitterly. Because the very thought of you here now makes me want to tear through the walls just to escape. “I’m not sharing my bed, Courtney,” I say, my voice cold and measured. I’ve repeated myself three times already, yet she doesn’t let up. “Why not?” she challenges, tilting her chin up. “I’ve always been here for you. I’ve done everything for you! I’ve stood by your side when no one else did—” “And I’ve given you my gratitude for
Chapter 36: Maya POV. I do my best to make myself invisible in this house. It's a survival tactic I've perfected since arriving here—move quietly, avoid eye contact, stick to the shadows. The mansion is vast, its hallways endless, and its silence oppressive. I’ve memorized the routes to the few places I need to go: the garden for my short, doctor-ordered walks, the kitchen for a glass of water when no one else is around, and back to my room, my solitary refuge. It’s easier this way, avoiding people. Avoiding her. Courtney’s presence is everywhere, even when she isn’t. It’s in the way the staff glance at me when I pass, the way my footsteps echo too loudly in the hallways, the way the air feels charged whenever I step out of my room. I know she doesn’t want me here. The feeling is mutual. After my walk today, I head straight to the shower. The hot water runs over me, washing away the tension in my muscles. I stay under the stream longer than I should, letting the heat soothe the ac
CHAPTER 35 LEO Anybody could smell the festivity in the air. The Packhouse was crammed with a lot of activities as servants and maids went around preparing every single corner of the Packhouse for the party tonight. It had been a very long time since a celebration of this sort happened here. As I made my way down to the courtyard, I could smell the polished woods fresh scent of flowers that were being chopped and decorated. It felt like chaos, but the kind that was meant to make things better. It was controlled, but chaos nonetheless. I had a lot of things to do so I needed to shift the work to someone else. As soon as I was ready to have the information disseminated, I called for everyone and asked them to gather in the main hall. How was the only place that could contain every single servant here. They filed in quietly, knowing better than to waste time because a lot of things still needed to be done. Claudia was standing beside me and there was a slight
CHAPTER 34 LEOWhen I walked into the courtroom the next morning, it was packed and I knew it was because of my announcement yesterday. I'd solved the problem that bugged them the most, but you could never just satisfy the council. The tension in the air was so thick you could slice it with a knife and every eye seemed to be watching. I was standing there, dressed in a dark suit with my jaw clenched. Silas was sitting across the room with his lawyers and he looked so hard and cold. I'd put him off many times, and I suspected that this day was going to come. I always knew he wouldn't go down without a fight, even when the answer was staring at him in the face. There was nothing he was going to do to get what he wanted, yet he still went after it. Once the judge entered, we all stood. I had only been to court once, and it had my heart pounding even though I knew I was going to win this. The hearing for the will contest soon started with both sides taking turns
CHAPTER 33 LEOI had decided to come out today, despite anything that might have wanted to day against that. It didn't matter to me because all I needed at the moment was to be outside again, feel the air on my skin and the sun on my back. I couldn't stop thanking myself for making that decision because it felt almost perfect. The warm sun against my skin as I slowly made my way through the pack gardens with Estelle standing beside me to make sure I was feeling okay. I trudged along the path, crunching the gravel beneath my feet and smelling the fresh scent of flowers that came my way. However, my mind was still somewhere else. It was almost impossible to shake the heaviness that had settled in my chest now. These past few days have been nothing but confusing and lonely. That's when my mind went back to what Leo had told me at dinner. We were mates but it didn't change anything. It made my heart twist with pain again, but I shook off the thought, looking awa
CHAPTER 32 MAYAI woke up the next morning feeling so empty and drained. I still remembered everything he said to me last night. I'd tried so hard to push it off but the words wouldn't stop echoing in my head like a song stuck on repeat. Of course we were mates but that wasn't going to change anything. Every single word he'd said seemed to chip away at my soul. I didn't know if that feeling was hope but it was probably dead now. He had made himself very clear to me last night and I appreciated it that he didn't hide any emotions as he spat it all out, loud and clear. Now I just had to find a way through these emotions that were wreaking havoc on me from within. My thoughts were interrupted when a knock sounded on the door. "Miss?" "Come in." I called out before getting into a sitting position. Given another option, I'd have loved to sit away the rest of the morning thinking about that night even though it made me feel bad, unwanted and rejected. My maid came i
CHAPTER 31 LEOWhen I walked out of the Packhouse and onto the courtyard, the sun was already high in the sky. That was something about this season, early mornings and early nights. A few weeks ago at this time, it was all dark and chilly. The air was crisp and the smell of freshly cut grass invaded my nostrils the moment they came. I could see the new recruits from where I was now. The Pack training centre wasn't far away, and I had them training already. I'd chosen this time because it would be the peak of the training and I'd get to watch them and say a few words to them before moving to the next task on the litany of things I needed to do today. It was a whole lot. When I arrived, the recruits were now arranged in perfect rows, with faces as serious as a sculptures's and eyes that crackled with a lot of nervous energy. As much as all of them wanted to look confident and all, one of the perks of being an Alpha was being able to see through it. Sometimes when
CHAPTER 30 MAYAThe only sound in the room as I sat there was the sound of my own breathing. I was still staring at the door because I had no idea what to do in here. My fingers kept shaking with the edge of the blankets as I thought about how long this was going to last. While he was gone, I had been able to come up with a plan so I had arranged with my maid who brought me lingerie from my room. Tomorrow, I will wear it inside but cover it with a simple zip-up gown. He was going to be back soon and I hoped my mission would work. This punishment was just suffocating and I had no idea how long I was going to be able to hold it together before I would go crazy. Being locked here with only access to a guard, a maid and Leo himself was more than a punishment and as every minute dragged by, the walls of the room seemed to close in more each day. There was no way I could take it anymore. So I needed to talk to him and maybe if I apologised again and really begged him
