My peaceful sleep was disturbed by the blaring of my alarm from my phone. I opened my eyes groggily to the sight of grey curtains and I stared at them in confusion.

Sitting up, I stretched my arms over my head and yawned. I got my phone from the nightstand and switched off my alarm before looking at the time. It was six thirty in the morning. It took me a moment to realise that I was at Mrs. Young's house. It's been three days since I moved in and I was having a good time.

Getting off of my bed, I pulled on a pair of sweatpants that hang low on my waist and left the room. Since none of the bedrooms, but for the parents room, had built in bathrooms, I had to use the one next to Henry's room. Entering the bathroom, I looked at my disheveled state in the mirror.

My bed head wasn't much of a monstrosity and I was glad since I didn't want to spend too much time on it today. I got my toothbrush and added some toothpaste before working on my teeth while looking at my reflection.

The Youngs and I knew each other through their late son, Nathan. We were childhood friends and I spent more time with these guys than my own family.

Nathan was a fun, cheerful guy who loved to involve others in his antics. I enjoyed my time with him a lot. In my first year of highschool, my dad got a job transfer and we had to move. The departure was tough and hearing that we couldn't visit each other made Henry cry a lot that day.

I chuckled at the thought of Henry. He was a cute, shy kid back then. He would always follow Nate and I whenever we went out and when I slept over, he always wanted to sleep with me.

I remember Nate being very jealous about this and he usually complained about how I stole Henry's love from him. But I could tell that Henry loved him more than me. He just preferred to stick to me for some reason and I didn't mind because he was cute.

Comparing that lovely child to this bored looking kid was too much of a contrast. Henry was now taller although I towered over him. His brown curls were fluffier and the sides of his head was cut short. He had fiery chestnut eyes that clearly showed how he felt inside.

I spat the toothpaste and rinsed my mouth before washing my face. Today was the first day of my internship and I was excited. I was lucky to have found one just before the summer vacation had began and I wanted to make sure that my resume would be impressive.

After finishing my bathroom activities, I went back into my room and changed into formal wear. Simply put, a white long sleeved shirt tucked into black pants and black shoes. I added a black coat on top since it was a chilly morning and I gave myself a nod of approval after looking at my reflection. I was interning at a law firm that was pretty popular. If I did well, I'd be hired seriously and hopefully become a partner.

I got my bag filled with all the necessary stuff and made my way downstairs. Entering the kitchen, I froze at the sight of Henry and when he noticed me, he rolled his eyes before pretending to not see me.

I walked in and put my bag on the seat across from his. I noticed that he was in his school uniform and it looked really familiar.

"Is that uniform from Phoenix High?" I asked as a smile stretched my lips. That place held so many memories.

Henry looked up at me and his face practically read, "Don't talk to me."

"Your brother and I used to go there." I walked to the coffee machine and finding already made coffee inside, I poured myself a cup. Adding in some sugar, I said, "I'm sad that you don't remember me though. You always made me give you my school jersey when I came over."

"Could you shut up?" He asked. "I planned to have breakfast in peace."

I turned and smiled at him. "Are you having fun at school? Is Mr. Swift still the headmaster?"

He stared at me for a moment before letting out an exasperated sigh, seeing that ignoring me would do him no good. "He is."

I chuckled. "Does he still wear that toupee that he thinks nobody noticed?"

"Sadly."

I walked to him and took a seat next to my bag. "How good are you with your grades?"

"I'm doing pretty well, I guess," he said as he lazily stirred his cereal.

"That's good to hear. If you need help, feel free to ask."

Dropping his spoon, he looked at me and I could tell that he was irritated. "Could you stop trying to butter me up? I won't like you either way."

"I'm not trying to butter you up. I just want to talk."

"Then don't. I don't need you behaving like my brother."

Before I could respond, Henry's parents walked into the kitchen and Henry's mood turned worse. Getting his bag from the table, he slung it over his shoulder and pushed past his parents without a word. I was surprised that they let him get away with that. My mom would throw a shoe at my head and my dad would never forget the disrespect for the rest of his life.

"You had a chat with Henry?" Mrs. Young asked as she began to make toast for her husband and herself.

"Depending on how he saw it, you could call it an interrogation," I answered before taking a sip of my coffee.

"I'm sorry. He must've been in a bad mood."

Mr. Young sat where Henry was seated and clicked his tongue in irritation. "That kid is always in a bad mood."

Mrs. Young looked over her shoulder at him. "Don't say that."

"But it's true. When is he going to learn that his brother's death shouldn't stop his life? We all miss Nate but here we are, trying our best while all his doing is mop around."

She went back to looking at the toast. "He's a sensitive child."

"It's been three years."

"People have different ways of coping with pain," I intervened. "He might be taking his time with it."

Mrs. Young nodded. "Henry was very attached to Nathan. He was the only person allowed to enter Henry's room and they talked all the time." She turned around with two plates of toast and handed one to her husband. "I apologize for his behaviour. I'm sure that he'll get used to you soon."

"I hope so." I put down my now empty mug and stood up. "I'll be leaving now. See you guys later."

"Have a good day," Mrs. Young said with a smile.

"Don't get in trouble," Mr. Young said with a small smile and I returned it before getting my back and leaving.

I could see where Henry got angry with me but I wasn't trying to replace Nathan and I didn't know how to make him understand that.

I took a short walk to the bus stop and waited for the bus as I listened to music through my headsets. I decided to stop thinking too much and go to work with a refreshed mind.

"You're finally here!" Flynn said excitedly as he pulled me into a hug.

Flynn was a close friend of mine. We met in highschool after I transferred and he was also my ex-boyfriend. We broke up on bad terms but made up when we found ourselves at the same college and become friends. Despite all the history I had with him, he was a touchy guy and that put him in plenty of trouble with others.

I chuckled and pulled away from the hug. "Could you contain your excitement while we're at work?"

He smiled at me, his blonde hair almost falling over his eyes in a wolf cut . "I can't help it. When you told me that you got a position here as well, I was over the moon."

"Well, it's great that we have someone to chat with."

"Says the guy who can make friends with a rock. Let me show you to your workspace."

"Do we have the same coordinator?"

"I don't think so but I just had to pick you up, Andy."

"Then lead the way."

Flynn started working here before me and with his help, I was able to get a spot quickly. The company was big and busy. Entering the work area, everyone was occupied with files and documents that I was slightly nervous by the workload.

"Here you are," he said. "Most of us work on the tables this side but you have to talk with Mrs. Timbers before you settle down."

I nodded. "Who is she?"

He pointed at a fat, short woman in a black suit who was talking to what I assumed was a group of interns along the row of tables on our side. I thanked him and went to talk to her. As intimidating as she looked, she was actually very friendly and her soft voice surprised me.

She showed me around and put me under Mr. Davison's supervision. He was also a pretty cool guy and I got used to the environment in a short matter of time. Soon, lunch arrived and everyone departed. The serious atmosphere softened and people talked together while others left to fill their stomachs.

"How's everything going?" Flynn asked as he sat next to me.

"It's okay. I never thought that I'd have this much fun," I answered as I packed the papers on my table neatly.

"We should head out. There are plenty of restaurants around." He stared at me for a while and asked, "Isn't it hot having a turtleneck inside your shirt?"

"Sort of but I have to keep my tattoo out of sight. I don't want to leave a bad impression on the first day."

He chuckled. "Good point. Despite your bad boy image, you pack a big brain inside that head."

"Don't judge a book by its cover."

"Flynn!" A young woman called as she walked towards us. "I told you to wait for me."

"Oh? I didn't hear you," Flynn answered, clearly showing that he was lying.

"Don't lie to me. You even responded."

He sighed. "My friend just joined today and I didn't want him to be lonely. Since you were taking your time, I decided to leave."

"You're so mean." She looked at me and smiled. "Hi, I'm Maryanne and you are?"

"Andre," I answered with a smile.

"You're pretty good looking."

"Shameless," Flynn commented with a teasing smile and looked at me. "Don't trust her."

Maryanne pouted. "You always make me seem like a bad guy."

"Aren't you one though?"

"I just like getting what I want."

"Awful."

She looked at me helplessly and I laughed as I shrugged. I liked how things were going and seeing that I already had two people to keep me company, I couldn't help but look forward to the upcoming days.

The day was finally done and I felt quite fulfilled. Mr. Davison told me that I did a good job with my research and I was feeling the lawyer vibes already. The workload wasn't as much and having short conversations with Flynn and Maryanne when we had nothing to do was fun. Packing my stuff, I put on my bag pack and stood up before carrying a bottle of water that I was drinking earlier. I turned and saw that Flynn was still typing in some things in his laptop while Maryanne's seat was vacant. Since I was done, I decided to walk over and say my farewells. "Still busy?" I asked as I stood next to him. He leaned back into his chair and stretched his arms over his head. "Sort of. I just have to finish this and I'm done for the day." "Is it always this busy?" "Not usually. It mostly depends on who your supervisor is. Mine has a case coming up and I'm doing my best to help out." "Lucky you. I can't wait to witness a court

"I was so shocked when I watched it last night. I didn't expect it to be so good," I said to Louis over the phone. "I told you that it was. Why don't you ever believe my movie recommendations?" "No offense but the stuff you watch suck." "Gee, thanks," he said sarcastically and I laughed. I looked at my reflection and admired the cream white panties that I had on. I was currently in a white shirt and panties as I laid down on my bed and looked at how flattering they looked on me. I felt a little narcissistic by how much I kept looking at the mirror but I couldn't blame me. I was amazing to behold. It was Saturday morning and I woke up around seven because that was my body clock's schedule - alarm or not. I took a shower and in the middle of dressing up, Louis called and I abandoned further clothing. "By the way, wanna hang out today?" Louis asked as he chewed on something and I cringed at the sound.

"It was so cool how they found out that her own son killed her," Ryan said as his eyes practically sparkled. "I didn't expect that." "I know, right? I honestly thought that it was that weird neighbour that showed up at the most suspicious times," Louis agreed before looking at me. "What did you think, Henry?" "I actually found it quite anticlimactic," I said with a sigh as I slowly stirred my milkshake with a straw. Earlier, we had all agreed to watch a horror movie and I was looking forward to it despite trying to hide my excitement. It was my favourite genre, after all. Ryan was still impressed by Andre's appearance so, he sat next to him so that they could talk. I was happy to have avoided sitting with Andre but the movie swiftly killed my joy. What a waste of ten bucks. We were currently in a restaurant downstairs as the hot summer weather made us gobble up cold beverages relentlessly. Ryan and Andre sat acro

I huffed as I dropped my hands, giving up on my attempt to fix my tie, and grabbed my bag from my bed. I had dismantled everything by accident while I was putting it on earlier and putting it back together was tougher than I thought. Despite the summer vacation already starting, my school offered extra lessons in the morning for anybody who was willing. Being the sucker of knowledge that I was, I couldn't miss out on that. I also couldn't imagine being home all day so, I had to keep myself busy in a way that would benefit me at least. Opening my door, I got out of my room before locking it and heading into the kitchen. I was a little sad that Louis and Ryan weren't willing to join me for my summer classes. There were probably going to be a few people in class who were forced to attend them because of low grades. I entered the kitchen and poured some cereal into a bowl before adding milk and eating it. The house was very quiet so I figured that

I sighed and stretched my arms over my head as a yawn escaped me. As expected, work kept piling up and the free time that I treasured at the beginning was slowly thinning away. Dropping my arms, I continued to do my research while keeping good posture in mind. As much as work pulled in most of my attention, back and neck pain was something that I absolutely dreaded so, I was careful with how I was seated. I looked at the screen and smiled at Henry's name being the name of a client on the case file that I was researching on today. Things between Henry and I became a little steady. I could see progress in how he stopped ignoring my existence and that he continued making a cup of tea or coffee for me despite saying that it was the last time. What made it more worthwhile was that he didn't wait to be asked anymore. When I found him in the kitchen, he'd stand up and make one for me. I didn't bother to tell him which o

"How's your internship going?" My dad asked Andre. "It's okay. I'm learning a lot and having fun," he said as he gave him a polite smile. "That's great," my mom said happily before taking a sip from her glass of water. "How are you liking your stay here?" "It's great too. Thanks for accommodating me." She laughed bashfully. "Don't thank us. We love having you over." "Really though. I would've been struggling to look for a place if you hadn't offered." "You're like a son to us and I'm happy that you've gotten used to the place." I scoffed internally at their praises as I ate my food. We were all having dinner together and as usual, my parents were gushing over Andre. They kept asking him about his day and his feelings and I felt beyond irritated. They didn't look at me or ask me anything, not that I would answer if they did, but still! Every time we ate together as a "family", I felt more like an outsider and it made me want to spend even less time with them. Andre nodded at w

I unlocked the door and heaved a heavy sigh before walking in. I was nervous today and that was because Henry was ignoring me for three whole days. We couldn't even be in a room together. The awkwardness was so heavy that Henry even stopped having dinner with us and he wouldn't be home when I came down for breakfast. I felt frustrated. It was like all the effort and progress came crashing down and I had no idea how to fix it. Closing the door behind me, I walked up to my room and put my things on my bed. I left work early since my supervisor had a personal event to attend to. On any other day, I would be grateful for the free time but today, not so much. I got my towel from my closet and went to the bathroom. Entering the small room, I was met by my reflection across from me and memories of that night flooded my mind. THE DAY AT THE BEACH; The sun was high in the sky as we enjoyed the heat and relaxed on this perfect summer day. Ryan was practically gawking at every girl who walked in front of us that I couldn't help but tease him about it. "Your virgin aura is showing," I said with a laugh and Ryan glared at me. "I'm just looking," he defended."Your eyes are doing more than that." He looked at Henry and chuckled. "Check him out." Leaning back into the sand, I glanced at Henry and caught him staring at a girl. He rarely showed interest in strangers so, watching him be that captivated was surprising. Henry has been acting strange since we arrived but I was glad that someone caught his eye. "Are you interested?" I asked and Henry flinched before looking at me. "Interested in what?" He asked."The girl in a white bikini. You've been eyeing her for a while." "Oh? Are you crushing on her?" Ryan asked with a mischievous smirk. "You should talk to her." He shook his head. "That's not it." "Reall

T/w; Trauma story ahead. Read with caution. The living room was silent as dad and I watched the large TV screen that had a movie playing in low volume. I nervously fidgeted with my hands as I tried to ignore the suffocating atmosphere that clearly filled the room. Dad didn't say anything but I could see that he was genuinely enjoying the movie. I looked into the hall and my shoulders slumped in defeat when I saw that the kitchen door was still closed. Those guys had no plans on letting me in anytime soon, did they? My father cleared his throat loudly and I looked at him. "Yes?" "Are you that anxious to see what they are doing?" He asked with a soft smile and I did my best to relax. "Uhm, yeah." He nodded thoughtfully. "I wanted to ask if you had an idea." "I just came back." "From work?" I shook my head. "From meeting my friends." "I see." "I went alone since I was having a t

"Where the heck are you?" I asked Louis over the phone while I looked around. We had agreed to hang out today and I had just arrived so, I was waiting for him. I would have followed him to the movie theater but the possibility of bumping into Ryan held me back. As much as I would love to talk to him, I was so high in my bubble of happiness that I wanted to stay away from anything that threatened to pop it. "I'm almost there. Just wait a little longer," he answered through pants. "Okay. I'm standing outside the arcade. Bring me a smoothie on your way here." "What? I'm already close to the arcade, dude." "There are plenty of shops behind you, right?" "Well, if a certain person chose to wait closer to the theater, I might've brought something for him." "Okay. We'll get something when you arrive." I kept my gaze on the ground as I thought of possible outcomes and reactions. Andre and I had just got out of the bus and the walk home was torturous. I kept my pace slow and Andre matched mine so that he wouldn't leave me behind. Saying that I was terrified was an understatement. My hands were shaking and my heart was pounding against my ribs. I talked to my mother yesterday to inform her of our arrival and she barely said a word. I didn't know what to expect. My father was obviously furious since I left without communicating but it was with reason. I couldn't risk jeopardizing my own plans if I said something. I heaved a heavy sigh and lifted my gaze to the house a few minutes away. It was now or never. I couldn't reach this far only to back out. "Calm down," Andre said with a gentle smile as we walked into the front porch. "I am calm," I retorted and he chuckled softly. "If you grip the straps of your bag any tighter, your knuckles will turn white." I loosened my grip. "Are
