After I'm abducted, I call my mother, a policewoman, for help. However, she hangs up on me and stays by my adoptive sister's side. "Go to hell if you're so keen on it!" she snaps. I calmly watch as the abductors pluck my nails and torment me until none of my skin is left unharmed. In my past life, my mother actually came to my rescue. She left my adoptive sister by the roadside, and the latter ended up being violated and murdered. From then on, I became a criminal in my mother's eyes. She received an anonymous text on my adoptive sister's death anniversary. "I bet a good girl like you wouldn't want your mother to know you hired us to abduct you, right?" She thought I orchestrated the abduction because I wanted to vie for her attention. She thought that was the cause of my adoptive sister's death. "I've saved people all my life. I never would've expected my flesh and blood to be such a shameless monster! You should go to hell as atonement for killing Charlene!" She sewed my mouth shut, shattered every bone in my body, and threw my ashes into a junkyard. When I open my eyes again, I find myself back to the day my mother makes her choice.

Chapter 1

"Percy, you know what? Your little girlfriend is something else. We just got word from Sienna Industries—they approved the contract!"

"Girlfriend? Don’t be mistaken. When has Percy ever acknowledged her as his girlfriend? Besides, do you really think one woman could handle so many tough negotiations... Ha! Percy, your tactic was truly brilliant!"

The meaning behind the words was clear.

Outside the door, Stellar Rivers froze, her raised hand stiffening mid-air.

She was clutching a folder tightly in her arms. It was a crucial document that would determine whether Moore Enterprises could go public.

Sienna Industries, knowing full well that there would be thunderstorms tomorrow, had deliberately demanded the contract be signed in person that day. Left with no choice, Stellar pulled every string she could, taking an alternative flight to deliver the papers.

Even so, the return flight had encountered severe turbulence during the storm. The cockpit was breached, and the pilot had fallen unconscious.

Stellar, risking her own life, managed to ensure the safety of everyone on board.

She hadn’t revealed any personal information, instead requesting complete confidentiality about her identity. The moment the plane landed, she rushed to ensure the contract was intact.

No matter what, she had to deliver it safely to Percy Moore.

When she learned from the secretary that Percy was at the club, she hurried to the private suite. But just as she arrived at the door, she overheard those words.

What came next made her humiliation even worse.

After a brief pause, Percy scoffed and said, "I’ve never touched her."

One sentence, and it was as if he couldn’t distance himself from her fast enough, afraid she might tarnish his reputation. It was also an indirect admission that she wasn’t his girlfriend.

Laughter erupted from inside the room.

"By the way, Percy, what’s going on with your engagement to the Harlow family? I heard Yvonne Harlow is back in town!"

The conversation continued inside.

Outside, Stellar froze in place.

Yvonne was the true heiress of the Harlow family. The woman Percy was truly engaged to.

Back then, when Stellar was exposed as a fake heiress, the truth came to light—she had been switched at birth in the hospital. An investigation revealed that her biological parents were likely countryside folks. They were never found, and all anyone knew was their last name: Rivers.

After the incident that ruined her, she was thrown out in disgrace. The only person who took her in was Percy, the man she had been engaged to for years. He was also her boyfriend of three years.

Because of that, Stellar gave him her unwavering loyalty.

Even though, all these years, he never once mentioned marriage.

She thought it was just a matter of timing. But now, she understood. He had never intended to marry her.

The woman he wanted to marry had always been the true Harlow heiress, Yvonne.

Even though he knew exactly what Yvonne had done to Stellar all those years ago.

Before Stellar could think further, the voices inside the room gave her all the answers she needed.

"Of course, Percy isn’t going to marry her. After all, Miss Harlow is the real heiress of the Harlow family. As for a fake like Stellar? He was just playing with her. If it weren’t for the fact that she’s capable enough to handle things for Percy..."

Stellar’s head buzzed as their words trailed off. Whatever else they said was drowned out by the ringing in her ears.

Her legs wobbled, and she barely managed to steady herself against the doorframe.

It took her a long moment to force herself to calm down.

"A woman like her, catching even a glimpse of high society and enjoying its privileges for so many years, should be grateful for the luck of a lifetime!"

"If she dares to keep clinging..."

The mocking voices inside continued, but Stellar suddenly shoved the door open with a sharp bang.

The commotion startled everyone, and as they turned toward her, their expressions froze.

"S-Stellar, you… you’re here..."

"Why are you here?"

Before Stellar could respond, Percy frowned and coldly cut her off.

Stellar pressed her lips together. The room was filled with Percy’s close-knit group of childhood friends. Though they always appeared friendly, she knew all too well that none of them truly respected her.

And now, she didn’t care.

Even so, the scene stung—she hadn’t even had time to change out of her wrinkled clothes after stepping off the plane. The gash on her arm from the near-crash hadn’t been treated, and the pain still throbbed.

Yet Percy didn’t seem to notice any of it.

His only reaction was the annoyance of being interrupted.

Coupled with the cruel words she overheard just moments ago, it felt like a knife had been driven straight through her heart.

For a brief moment, her composure wavered, but then she suddenly laughed.

So, he was afraid she would cling to him, was he?

She blinked quickly, forcing away the tears that threatened to spill.

"Mr. Moore, this is the contract with Sienna Industries. I brought it here for you."

Her feigned indifference only seemed to amuse Percy’s friends even more.

They nearly forgot—this was just who Stellar was. No matter how cruel Percy was to her, she always ignored it, choosing instead to coddle him, indulge him, and do everything she could for him.

One of his friends, Chris Carter, smirked and said mockingly, "Ha! Percy, you’ve really got a way with women. To train up such an obedient dog. Oh, I mean “doll”. What’s your secret? Care to share it with us?"

Chris’ words, as blunt as they were, drew raucous laughter from the group. He was the same one who earlier claimed that Stellar’s life of privilege was sheer luck.

Only one of them, Xavier Reed, remained silent, his brows furrowed in disapproval.

The roaring laughter thundered in Stellar’s ears, but she shut it out completely. When she looked at Percy, the last shred of affection in her eyes disappeared.

“This is the last thing I’ll do for you. Percy, let’s break up.”

Her voice wasn’t loud, but it was firm, resounding with finality.

The room fell silent. For a moment, no one spoke.

Then, laughter erupted again, louder and more mocking than before.

Stellar didn’t pay them any attention. She turned and walked out of the private suite without looking back.

Watching her retreating figure, Chris seemed to sense something unusual. Feeling awkward, he quickly asked, “Percy, she’s really gone. Aren’t you going to explain things to her?”

“What’s there to explain?”

Another one of Percy’s friends cut him off, speaking with absolute certainty.

“Don’t forget how she begged her way into Percy’s life back then. A fake heiress who stole eighteen years of someone else’s life, a stray dog everyone despises—how could she possibly survive without him? Mark my words, she’ll come crawling back, crying and begging for his forgiveness before the day is over!”

Percy swirled the red wine in his glass, his fingers casually tilting the stem. His gaze drifted back from the door where Stellar had disappeared, his lips curving into the faintest hint of a smirk.

No one knew better than him how much Stellar depended on him.

A woman with no home, no family—how could she possibly have the courage to leave him?

It was just harmless banter, a way to show off in front of his friends. What could she possibly be upset about?

“Don’t worry about her. Let’s drink.”

The others laughed and moved on, turning their attention back to their drinks and idle chatter.

Meanwhile, outside the club, Stellar hailed a cab and headed straight back to Azure Heights.

Once home, she took a long shower, cleaned and bandaged the wound on her arm, and began packing her belongings with swift precision.

Since she had decided to leave, she had no intention of lingering.

When Stellar’s true identity was exposed, the Harlow family blamed her for their biological daughter’s years of suffering. Yvonne had ended up in an orphanage, enduring a harsh life, and Stellar became the scapegoat.

They didn’t just disown her and forbid her from ever using the Harlow name again, they also demanded she repay every penny they’d ever spent on her.

Everything Yvonne had done to Stellar back then remained a nightmare she couldn’t shake.

At the time, Stellar became a pariah, despised by everyone. Former friends and family turned their backs on her without hesitation.

It was Percy who found her on the streets and brought her home.

In her darkest moment, when she’d lost all hope, she clung to that man like a lifeline, pouring everything she had into him.

But now...

The contract she had risked her life to retrieve would be the final repayment of the debt she owed him for saving her back then.

From now on, they were even.

As she finished packing, Stellar’s hand trembled slightly when she came across something buried deep at the bottom of a drawer.

A few trophies, shining reminders of her once-brilliant past.

She had been a prodigy, a genius admired by all.

Back then, for Percy, she resolutely turned down Professor Stone, the mentor who believed in her potential. He even offered her a full scholarship to continue her studies, promising that her background didn’t matter.

She broke his heart when she rejected his offer.

Now, she knew she was wrong.

After a moment of hesitation, Stellar decisively packed the trophies into her suitcase. She zipped it up, grabbed her bags, and walked out of the villa without looking back.

Chapter 1
"If you're going to die, then hurry up and die! Stop putting on an act. I don't have time for your drama!"With a sharp click, the call ended. But Mom's shrill curses still echoed in my ears."What? You little witch! Did you give us a fake number? Was that really your mom telling you to go die?"The abductor who'd made the call kicked me hard to vent his frustration."I thought we'd hit the jackpot, since the little witch said her mom's been making good money in business these years. What rotten luck!""What should we do now, boss?"The man they addressed as "boss" had a sinister look on his face. He suddenly lifted my chin and smiled cryptically."I refused to believe that her mom wouldn't have any reaction at all. She's probably faking it. Record something interesting and send it to her mom."If she still doesn't react… Well, don't blame me for being ruthless.""Anyway, this one's pretty enough. We might as well have some fun before we finish her off."The men quickly reac

Chapter 2
Mom said she wanted me to experience all the suffering Charlene had gone through. That was why I couldn't even bring myself to recall how I died in my past life.I really wanted to tell her that I hadn't done any of those things and that I had really been abducted. But she said she didn't want to hear my excuses, as every word I spoke was filthy. Thus, she sewed my mouth shut.Stitch by stitch, blood splattered across her face and hands. Before my lips were fully sewn shut, I used all my strength to scream "Mom", but she remained unmoved. In fact, that only made her angrier."Don't call me 'Mom'! I have an accomplished life, but having a daughter like you is my biggest failure. You're so vile that I can't even—"Her eyes reddened. As she dragged my barely conscious body, she kept muttering things like "go die".She dragged me to the cemetery where Charlene was buried. Then, she forced me down and made me bow in front of her memorial over and over again until I lost count.I cou

Chapter 3
While I was unconscious, I kept having nightmares. They were all memories I had deliberately avoided in the past.I dreamed of Mom and Charlene bonding like a real mother and daughter, praised for their closeness, while I hid in the shadows, watching.I dreamed of how I had given Charlene everything she wanted that was mine since I was young. Yet, I never earned so much as a glance from Mom.I dreamed of the time when I was choosing my major, and there was only one spot left for the one I wanted. But Charlene, who scored one point lower than me, also coveted it. I didn't want to give up my spot to her, so Mom angrily scolded me for being heartless.I even dreamed that while the abductors were prying off my nails, Mom was across the city. She stayed by Charlene, crying tears of joy for the second chance with her and vowing to protect her at all costs.I used to lie to myself that Mom would eventually find time to love me. But in the painfully clear dreams, I came to realize one tru

Mom was still in shock as they pushed her out of the room.Hearing the doctor list my injuries one by one, she seemed unable to process it. After all, she thought that this was all just an act to deceive her. She couldn't understand how I could be this badly hurt.Charlene immediately rushed over and hugged Mom. Then, she started sobbing loudly."Mom, it's all my fault. I'm the one to blame. I kept your love all to myself for too long—so much so that Matilda had to hurt herself just to get your attention. She must be in so much pain. Mom, once she's stable, please let me apologize to her, okay?"Charlene's words suddenly snapped Mom out of her daze. She shifted her gaze away from the hospital room. The hesitation and uncertainty that had been in her eyes vanished instantly. At the sight of my injuries, she was suddenly reminded of Charlene's horrific corpse from her last life. I might be in pain now, but Charlene had suffered far worse than me.Tears of grief spilled from Mom's e

Upon hearing that the murderer was to be taken away to turn herself in, the outraged patients and family members gathered at the door. Those who had been eager to charge in and force me out burst into cheers. They raised their hands high, shouting praises for Mom and Charlene, hailing their righteousness in cutting ties with a criminal."Get lost, you murderer!""Turn yourself in! Turn yourself in!""Someone who's killed that many people deserves the death penalty! Otherwise, she'll just be a scourge on society!"Soon, a wheelchair was brought over.Mom reached out to grab me, but despite the excruciating pain in my body, I pushed her away. Staggering, I sat down in the wheelchair. My conscience was clear, so I wasn't afraid to go to the police station. Only those who had truly wronged others should have felt guilty.I glanced at Charlene. She had a frail, delicate demeanor, but her eyes gleamed with cunningness."Mom, no one has the courage to wheel Matilda out, so let me do

Naturally, Mom hadn't watched those videos."Anyone who'd seen these videos would never eagerly force their daughter to turn herself in for conviction or decisively condemn her to the death penalty. Judith, what were you even thinking?" Ms. Madden asked.Mom had been silent since watching the videos, but her hands trembled slightly. She shakily took out her phone. She unblocked me on WhatsApp, and the same dozen videos she had just seen appeared on the screen. Feeling defeated, she slowly sank onto the couch."How could this be?" she muttered to herself. "Why is it like this? B-But the last time I received this kind of message, she was the one who… Does that mean that Matilda didn't hire those men?"Mom had many doubts, yet she still condemned me to death over a single text. But why didn't she ever question her precious adopted daughter, Charlene?Charlene, who had died in our past lives, was the daughter of the fallen comrades who had sacrificed themselves to protect Mom.Mom w

I asked Ms. Madden to take me back to the place where they had found me. In other words, the crime scene. When Ms. Madden took me there, she deliberately insisted that Mom and Charlene come along.Mom, noticing Ms. Madden's suspicion toward Charlene, began to find her behavior baffling."Matilda, how many times have I told you not to waste police resources? If you're lying to Peggy, the consequences will be just as severe. I won't help you then!"However, she fell silent upon arriving at the crime scene. The blood stain on the ground—distinct from those of a gunshot wound—could only have been mine.I was dragged by my hair from one spot to another, leaving a winding trail of blood behind. The sight must have stirred something in her and reminded her of the poor Charlene from her past life. As a result, she managed to dredge up a sliver of pity for me, the so-called "innocent" one. She reached out to take my hand, but Charlene gripped hers tightly instead."Mom, I'm so scared. It

Charlene threw herself into Mom's arms and started to sob uncontrollably. She knew exactly how to manipulate Mom.There was no way Mom could possibly remain unmoved when Charlene brought up her deceased parents at this moment. As for destroying evidence that hadn't even been fully examined yet? Charlene was well aware that with Mom's former prestige, she could just get them to turn a blind eye and let the matter slide.Charlene was smart. She knew that this was the only possible piece of evidence. She would only have to destroy it, and then she would have nothing to do with the case. That said, she was also quite stupid. Mom's overprotectiveness of her for the past 12 years had made her soft.Ms. Madden was already visibly displeased. She thought that Charlene was acting far too suspiciously."Didn't you know that once data is uploaded to the cloud, it doesn't matter if the phone turns to dust?" Charlene scrambled over on her hands and knees and threw herself in front of Mom, babbling incoherently. She tried to convince Mom that it was all fake."Mom, this must be Matilda's doing! She's trying to drive us apart!" Charlene frantically tried to explain. But this time, it was useless.Mom gritted her teeth and suddenly lunged at her. Then, she grabbed her by the throat and roared, "Anything could happen during an operation. No one could have predicted the sacrifices!"I spent 12 years doing my best to make it up to you, and this is how you repay us? Charlene, you're nothing but a heartless and ungrateful monster!"Despite being nearly strangled to death, Charlene somehow found the strength to break free and shove Mom away. She dropped the act and snapped, "So what if I'm heartless and ungrateful? Why did my parents have to die instead of you? It should have been you, not them! I'd give anything to trade your life for theirs. I wish I could slice you to pieces!"Mom lost all
