May 25, 2024. Chapter 1-2.
Riley was already swimming alone in the pool. Against the hot sun, she felt great being submerged in a cold, freshwater pool. She had already swum four laps when Adrian appeared in his board shorts. He was still in his wheelchair, but he was already half-naked, his six-pack abs flashing before her. "How is the water?" Adrian asked. "Just perfect for the hot weather," Riley answered with a smile. Adrian settled his wheelchair closer to the pool. Then, he helped himself up. Riley panicked. She asked, "Can you handle it?""It's just a few steps," Adrian answered. In the next few seconds, Riley watched in agony as Adrian limped to the edge of the pool. When he finally sat on the pool's edge, she sighed. Riley swam closer to Adrian, prepared to help. She asked, "You will be okay in the water, right?"Adrian smiled at Riley. He lowered himself into the water and said, "Yes, buoyancy helps me float -""Because you can just lean on me anytime," Riley offered. "Ah, yeah, actually, do yo
"Mmmm!" Riley moaned as she ate an entire leg of Alaskan king crab. She had earlier dipped the crab into a chili sauce, and the sauce was oozing out of her mouth. "Oops!" Riley grabbed a paper towel and wiped the corners of her mouth. She said, "Sorry. It's so good."As Riley ate, Adrian watched her from across the table. He thought Riley looked incredibly adorable, like a child eating her first cake. "I can tell you are very satisfied. You were having an orgasm just now," Adrian teased before a chuckle left his lips. "Haha!" Riley laughed her heart out. She reasoned, "I just love seafood."Adrian peeled a shrimp and stuffed it in his mouth. He chewed it down before asking, "How did you survive being married to a man who is allergic to crustaceans?""Haha!" Riley laughed again. Her eyes watered in amusement. "I - "Riley drank from her wine and answered, "I eat out alone or with my mom. Sometimes, I go to my mom's house to eat seafood." "A year ago, I cooked seafood pasta at home a
###FLASHBACK###Over six years ago, in Sweden.Adrian was sitting up in the hospital bed, recovering from his spinal and leg injuries. The doctors came in and gave him the news that broke his heart. "We now have the complete evaluation of your situation, Adrian," the primary doctor said. "The surgery saved your life and your ability to make use of your upper body. However, you won't be able to walk again.""No! That can't be!" Adrian's grandfather, Abner, reacted. "I did not pay you millions of dollars just to give me and my grandson that answer!"The loud screams did not stop there. Abner King continued to berate the doctors from outside Adrian's hospital room. "You told me my grandson had an 80% chance of recovery? What is this now? So Adrian belongs to the lower 20%?""You are fired!""Get me another doctor!""I want the best doctors for my grandson!"Adrian King was not a man of weak heart, but to imagine a life without running, playing basketball, hiking, biking, and possibly wa
"Your mother may go home next week. She may opt to resume her therapy as an outpatient," the doctor said to Riley. "Of course, staying here until your mother fully recovers is more convenient.""Thank you, doctor. We will discuss it," Riley said before seeing the doctor leave. Riley walked over to Renee and sat on her bed. She asked, "Mom? Would you like to go home?"Renee thought deeply. Then, she responded, "I don't think I want to travel often while I still can't walk properly. Is it okay if I stay here? It's a lot safer here. When you get home, Riley, you always travel with a driver, right? Adrian had mentioned he assigned you a driver. So you are always safe? How is the house?""Um." Riley chuckled. She said, "Mom, we are talking about you, not me."Then, she wondered if it was the right time to tell Renee about living with Adrian. Clearing her throat, Riley said, "But about me, Mom. I have been meaning to tell you. Adrian has been a bit protective of me, so he asked me to move i
Inside a vast mansion, four individuals awaited Abner and Adrian's return. Riley became the center of attention. Like Adrian's family members, they sat at the dining table as if participating in a staring contest. Anthony King, Tonet, and Fredrick scrutinized Riley's every move, judging her by her appearance.Tonet had short black hair, very full lips, a slender face, and skin as white as pearl. She kept raising a brow at Riley and sometimes whispered in Fredrick's ear. Adrian's stepbrother also had very fair skin. He had light brown hair and was good-looking. However, to Riley, Fredrick paled in comparison to Adrian. Fredrick was constantly smirking and checking Riley's frame. The way he maintained his prolonged gaze felt invasive and inappropriate to Riley. It made her very uncomfortable."Anthony, I'm only looking out for Adrian. I think she must be a gold digger," Tonet remarked, leaning closer to her husband. She pretended to whisper, but her voice was audible enough for Riley
Dinner was far from the appetizing feast Riley had anticipated, even with the tantalizing seafood spread before them. Despite Abner King's valiant efforts to maintain a semblance of order, the air in the dining room was thick with an unspoken tension that seemed to grow with each passing moment.Anthony's eyes were like daggers, piercing through the air and landing squarely on Adrian. But Adrian, seemingly unfazed, continued to fill his plate with food. He deftly peeled a giant prawn, dipped it in a chili sauce, and placed it on Riley's plate. His voice was calm as he said, "Here, it's your favorite, Hun."Forcing a smile, Riley said to Adrian, "Thanks, Hun."After eating the fat prawn, Riley gulped down a glass of white wine. She wiped the corners of her mouth with a table napkin and said, "Um, excuse me. I need to go to the restroom.""Let me show you where it is," Adrian offered. "It's okay, Adrian." Riley grabbed her purse, saying, "I can find it.""I'm sure she is smart enough to
'What? Give Adrian a chance to lead the company?' Fredrick thought. If it were last year, he would never consider this, but with the current state of the conglomerate, he might benefit from the setup. The construction company was losing projects, and Fredrick was at his wits' end trying to figure out how to restore it to its former glory, but Adrian might have a solution that he was unwilling to share. Inside Fredrick's head, he thought, 'If Adrian thinks he can prove himself by temporarily taking over my position, he is wrong. I'll use him, and by the end of his brief leadership, I'll take credit for everything he has done. Haha!''You don't know, Adrian. You don't know what kind of backing I have within the board of directors now.' Fredrick was laughing in silence, but however amused he was, he concealed his inner thoughts and said with a complicated expression, "Fine!""I agree," Fredrick said, his voice dripping with a hidden agenda. "But you have to take care of the company, Adri
Riley took a big whiff of Adrian's shirt, and immediately, her cheeks flushed. Wearing the man's oversized shirt felt like having him wrap his arms around her. At least, that was how Riley felt about it. "Wow," Barely a whisper, she said. "It smells really good."Adrian had a special fabric softener and iron spray for all his clothes. Everything in his closet had a distinctly masculine and spicy fragrance. She swallowed hard, her heart pounding in her chest. With her freshly washed face, she returned to the bedroom, her steps filled with nervousness.Adrian was already in bed, reading a book. He looked at her, and their eyes were glued to each other for seconds. Riley chuckled before raising her arms, asking, "How do I look?"Adrian's eyes sparkled with amusement as he took in Riley's appearance."It's a perfect fit," he declared, his voice filled with satisfaction. The man's undershirt was indeed a tremendous mini-sleeping dress for Riley. It covered her arms and upper thighs; the b
As Taylor had promised, he was up early and about to leave for basketball practice at seven a.m. He was already in his basketball jersey, but given the bad weather, he wore a jacket over his frame. He was really tall. At six feet, he towered over Charlie.Taylor caught Charlie having another food delivery. He frowned and said, "It's not healthy, you know. You should cook on your own. There are a lot of videos on You*Tube."Charlie unpacked her food and said, "Oh, I can cook. I just haven't done my groceries yet."That was a lie. Charlie wasn't good at cooking, but she knew it was about time to learn. She had to admit it: Sofia and Ashley somewhat spoiled her by doing most of the cooking. Her contributions to the previous apartment were mostly cleaning and washing the dishes. "Anyway, I have to go," Taylor said, his voice still a little hoarse. I'll be back at noon.""I won't be here," Charlie said. "Good!" Taylor said before leaving. Well, she did not die. Thank god. Charlie conclu
At the condo, Charlie and Taylor sat in their seats, staring at each other. Both of them were clearly second-guessing the situation.“I still can’t believe I ended up in this mess,” Charlie muttered. “You are the worst possible roommate I could ever have.”“Really?” Taylor reacted. “This is given your experience of being roommates with other men?"“You -” Charlie gritted her teeth, her face burned in anger. “Why don’t you tell me, Charlie Blondie, why were you looking for another place to stay just weeks into the first semester? Where were you staying before this?” Taylor scoffed and suggested, “Maybe your roomies couldn’t stand you, and you got kicked out!”“You don’t know what you are talking about!” Charlie retorted. “I have my reasons, and it’s none of your business.”Clearing his throat, Taylor said, “Well, anyway, Charlie Blondie -”“Stop calling me that!” Charlie snapped. “It’s a way for me to differentiate you and Charlie Slade,” Taylor answered. “Who is Charlie Slade?” Cha
###FLASHBACK: TWO DAYS AGO ###“You have to try to get out of trouble! I’m tired of the school calling me every time…” Taylor’s father was ranting about the recent fight he had been involved in at school. Taylor was rarely home, yet this lecture served as his welcome-home speech. Taylor, however, barely paid attention. His phone suddenly rang. He interrupted his father, saying, “Dad, hold on. Tanya is calling.”“Tanya?” Taylor answered the call while his father was still talking. He could not focus and rushed the call altogether. “Taylor - a Charlie King - to co-rent the condo,” Tanya said on the other line. “Charlie?” He did not know why, but a certain Charlie flashed in his head. Charlie was a third-year engineering student, and they were in the same Structural Analysis class. Coincidentally, this Charlie had asked him about any vacancies at Fernwood Residence. So, Taylor immediately assumed it was him. “Yeah, I know Charlie,” Taylor said. It did not help that Tanya was out of
“Your new apartment is great!” Charlie’s sister complimented. Charlie gave her sister a virtual tour of the new place through a video call. It was late at night, but she was pumped up. She could not sleep!“I know, it’s clean and spacious. I guess it’s worth $3000. Haha!”“Pfft,” her sister, Freya, scoffed. “I think it’s cheap.”“No! Haha!” Charlie laughed again. “Luxford is not as developed as Halliport. It’s only known for the university. So, rent should not be this expensive, but I’m just glad I found a place to stay.”Charlie smiled as she sat on the sofa. She looked around, the wind blowing on her face from the living room balcony. She said, “I feel like this condo and this view will make me finish the rest of the year in Luxford.”She only had one year left, and it would be really inconvenient to change schools in between. So, maybe, just maybe, she could bear it. Charlie chatted with her family next. They had many questions, especially about her friends, but she said, “I just
Charlie looked up and met the guy’s gray eyes. His eyes were so beautiful, but this man was angry… and had a cut on his lip!‘Taylor West?’ Charlie silently named. Her heart raced as she mused, ‘How did he get into a fight early in the morning?’“I said, watch where you are going!” He repeated. His tone was sharp, and his eyes narrowed. He grabbed a younger student next to him and demanded from Charlie, “Apologize to him!”“I’m sorry. I was in a hurry,” Charlie explained. “It’s okay. It’s okay, Taylor, I’m fine,” the younger student said. “Head back to class,” Taylor told the young man and the latter nodded. He smiled at Charlie before leaving. “Look, I’m sorry. I need to go to class,” Charlie said. Taylor did not respond, so she took off.“Do I know you? You look familiar?” Taylor later asked. Charlie turned around and raised her brow. She answered, “No, we have never met.”“Okay, well, watch where you are going next time,” he said curtly. Just then, a group of students emerged
“Space, huh? You needed to focus on basketball?” Charlie reacted with sarcasm. “Wait, don’t tell me you just met this girl today? Because we just broke up the other night!”Following Charlie’s arrival, The Nook & Brew Café fell silent. She caught a look of horror on her best friends’ faces—Ashley and Sofia.Luke’s hold on Regina loosened. He looked down before meeting Charlie’s gaze and admitted, “I’m sorry, Charlie. I could not tell you. I… I did not want to break your heart.”Charlie scoffed. She felt tears brimming in her eyes, but she held it. Instead, she allowed her anger to take over. “You could have just said so and not leave me wondering what I did wrong!”“I deserve the truth, Luke. I have been good to you for the past two years.” She pointed at him, adding, “You know it!” Then Charlie eyed Luke’s friends, including their girlfriends. She added, “And they all know it!”“And you two!” Charlie called Ashley and Sofia’s attention. “It’s obvious that you knew, but you chose to l
‘I love you, Charlie, and you’ll always have a special place in my heart, but I need space. Let’s break up,’ Luke’s words the other night rang in Charlie’s head. ‘I need to focus on my studies and basketball. Scouts will be in town this year, and this might be my only chance to get into the NBA. I hope you understand, Charlie.’He meant that basketball would be his life from that moment on, and she was nothing more than a distraction. To think, Charlie was ready to introduce Luke to her family. Luke would have been overwhelmed, but sadly, he ended it before he could truly know the real Charlie Rae King. Charlie was watching the game between Luxford University’s The Atomic Heat and The Wall Street Warriors. Their school had four basketball teams, and each year, they competed for the chance to represent the school at the National College Basketball Association. Luke Sullivan was the captain of The Wall Street Warriors. They represented the business courses, whereas The Atomic Heat rep
Hi Guys, Glad to be back. While writing Riley’s book, I had initially wanted to write Charlie and Freya’s story continuously. However, I ended up taking a break. Hence, we will be cutting them into Book 2 and Book 3. Still, the books will be attached to Riley and Adrian's novel. Unless I get sick or have an emergency, I won’t take a break in between, and the stories won’t be long. Since I already had Charlie’s story in mind, we will start with her. I aim to finish Charlie’s story by the end of February, and then we will begin with Freya’s story in March. We will skip years into the timeline when Charlie is already in college, experiencing an independent life in another city. Ladies and gentlemen, I am both nervous and excited to present to you, “The Bad Boy Next Room.” This is a genre that I have always wanted to write—Young Adult. So, here it goes, and I hope you will love it. ***Blurb:“True pain doesn’t come from enemies but from those we hold dear.” Twenty-one-year-old Cha
“Happy 18th Birthday, Freya!”The crowd cheered while Freya stood on the stage. Her parents, Adrian and Riley, were beside her. Freya embodied youthful elegance and charm, a rising star in high society at eighteen. She dreamed of taking over her mother’s jewelry business one day.In her late forties, Riley’s presence was captivating and serene. Her thick, golden blonde hair cascaded in soft waves, and fine lines around her bright eyes added wisdom and warmth to her beauty.Adrian stood tall and confident, his well-built physique reflecting years of self-care. His long, tousled dark-brown hair framed his ruggedly handsome face. Holding the microphone, Adrian expressed, “Today is my first princess’ 18th birthday. I could not be happier for Freya.”With a smile, he turned to Freya and added, “Freya, since you are now eighteen, you can start dating -”Adrian paused and noticed Freya’s excitement. He smirked and restarted, “You can start dating when you are twenty-five.”“Hahaha!”“Twenty
