Charlie looked up and met the guy’s gray eyes. His eyes were so beautiful, but this man was angry… and had a cut on his lip!
‘Taylor West?’ Charlie silently named. Her heart raced as she mused, ‘How did he get into a fight early in the morning?’
“I said, watch where you are going!” He repeated. His tone was sharp, and his eyes narrowed. He grabbed a younger student next to him and demanded from Charlie, “Apologize to him!”
“I’m sorry. I was in a hurry,” Charlie explained.
“It’s okay. It’s okay, Taylor, I’m fine,” the younger student said.
“Head back to class,” Taylor told the young man and the latter nodded. He smiled at Charlie before leaving.
“Look, I’m sorry. I need to go to class,” Charlie said. Taylor did not respond, so she took off.
“Do I know you? You look familiar?” Taylor later asked.
Charlie turned around and raised her brow. She answered, “No, we have never met.”
“Okay, well, watch where you are going next time,” he said curtly.
Just then, a group of students emerged from an office. Charlie quickly realized she was standing before the Dean’s Office for the College of Engineering. The students who had just stepped out looked roughed up. One had a broken nose, while another sported a cut above his brow, and three had bruised faces.
Charlie was horrified. She followed their gazes, and they landed on Taylor. It was the only time she saw Taylor’s bruised knuckles.
‘So, he did this to them? To all of them?’ Charlie has heard of this. Taylor West often got into fights on campus. This was one reason Taylor was known as the school’s bad boy.
“You won’t get away with this, West!” The guy with a broken nose said.
Taylor smirked their way. With a faint laugh, he said, “I already have, Garcia.”
He shook his head and left just like that.
In the end, Charlie was incredibly late for her class. Thanks to the drama at the College of Engineering, which she had willingly eavesdropped on.
Charlie stepped into her Business Law class, instantly drawing everyone’s attention as heads turned her way. The professor shot her a disapproving look and remarked, “How nice of you to finally join us, Miss King.”
“I’m sorry. It won’t happen again,” Charlie responded. Her face flushed as she looked around. She caught Sofia staring at her, so she averted her gaze. Charlie, instead, sat on a different seat. She knew Luke was also in the front row, but Charlie never glanced his way.
After the class, Charlie walked out, but not fast enough. Luke caught up with her and grabbed her arm. He said, “It’s not like you to be late for class. Where have you been, Charlie?”
Charlie pulled her arm away. She answered, “It’s none of your business, Luke.”
“Ashley tells me you haven’t been home,” he said.
“Again, it’s none of your business,” Charlie responded before running to her next class.
“Charlie.”
“Charlie!”
Luke called again and again, but Charlie ignored him.
For the rest of the day, Charlie successfully avoided confrontations with Luke, Ashley, Sofia, or any of Luke’s friends. Since they were in the same department in college, it was natural for her to encounter them, but Charlie pretended not to know them.
Everywhere she went, students in the College of Business talked about their breakup, but she did not give them the pleasure of reacting to their gossip.
Charlie concluded that one day, those who hurt her would be out of her life for good. She simply needed to take it one step at a time.
Over the weekend, she would move out of the apartment she shared with Ashley and Sofia. Then, she could look into changing classes. After the semester, she might complete her studies in Halliport and leave Luxford for good.
***
Saturday arrived in no time. Charlie had visited several rental houses and apartments—at least from the outside. Three of the five homes gave off an eerie vibe, even at first glance.
“Scratch that,” she muttered while marking it off her notebook. She was back at the hotel, eating late lunch at the restaurant.
The other two houses were a bit far. Charlie bit her lip and considered, “It’s time to get a car - no wait -”
She might move to Halliport next semester. Buying a car would be inconvenient because she would need to sell it again in a few months.
With that, she returned to the internet and searched for potential houses again. Surprisingly, she found a new rental listing! It read: [ Looking for a co-tenant for a two-bedroom condo unit at Fernwood Residence. Rent is $3,000 monthly, with a required two-month deposit and one-month advance payment.]
“$3,000? Just to share a two-bedroom condo?” Charlie found it too overpriced, but it seemed reasonable given its prime location. It was right across from Luxford University! Besides, wealthy students would likely jump at the offer.
Charlie immediately called the number on the ad and scheduled a viewing ASAP. The person who arranged the viewing was the building’s property manager. At first glance, Charlie was impressed!
The apartment was tastefully furnished with a modern, minimalist design. The earth-colored furniture stood out, and although the decor was simple, it was clear that the pieces were high-end.
When the building manager showed her the room she would occupy, she reacted, “Love it!”
“You get to use everything, but with care. That is why the deposit is worth two months,” the building owner said.
The best part was the view of the school. They were on the 15th floor, so she could see the entire campus from the living room balcony.
“I’ll take it!” Charlie excitedly said.
The condo owner was Tanya Dawson, and Charlie immediately assumed she would be living with this lady. She asked, “Where is Miss Dawson? What is she like as a resident owner?”
“I’m not particularly sure where she is, Maam. I’m new as a property manager, but from what I heard, she pays homeowners’ dues on time. We have not received any complaints about her from the neighbors,” the building manager said. “I can call Miss Dawson if you like?”
The building manager quickly was on a conference call with Miss Dawson. The lady requested to speak with Charlie, and upon seeing her, she reacted, “Oh, you are a girl!”
“Um. Yeah,” Charlie answered. “Is that a problem?”
The connection was unstable, causing Miss Dawson’s voice to cut in and out. “You’ll be—are you sure?”
“Wait,” Miss Dawson said.
Charlie could barely hear anything, but she could see Miss Dawson speaking to someone on another phone. Aside from that, the building manager distracted her by saying, “She is out of the country. My colleague says she is out almost all the time. The signal is bad.”
Later on, Miss Dawson said, “Okay - if you are sure. You - move - in any time! You - pretty nice. I like you!”
Charlie was just so over the moon about finding an apartment. She did not think anything else and simply signed the contract and paid with a check.
On a Sunday, she returned to the apartment she shared with Ashley and Sofia. The hotel she was staying at helped her make the arrangements for the move. A van was enough to carry everything she had accumulated in the last three years.
Usually, Ashley and Sofia slept in on a Sunday, but the movers awoke them. They both gathered in Charlie’s room, explaining their side.
“I know we hurt you for lying, but we did not know how to tell you,” Sofia said with her brows meeting. “Luke warned us from telling you, and our boyfriends told us not to tell you.”
“Please, Charlie, talk to us,” Ashley pleaded.
Charlie tried to ignore them while she put some of her books in a box. She sighed and turned to the girls, saying, “I don’t know, Ashley, Sofia. I guess I expected you to be on my side. You are not even mad at Luke for what he did! And you seem to love Regina, given how you had already invited her into our apartment without my permission.”
“And remember how you cheered them on at the cafe?” Charlie pointed out. “I felt blindsided. I confided in you, and you all made me believe in what he said, but all along, you knew he was cheating on me!”
The two fell silent, but soon Ashley reasoned, “We can’t say no to Luke.”
“Oh, so he is god now?” Charlie said before rolling her eyes. “I’m not expecting you to cut him off. You were friends before me, but I expected you to do what is morally right!”
“Don’t get so affected, Charlie,” Sofia presented. “You’ll find another guy.”
“This isn’t about a guy!” Charlie retorted. “This is about fairness! Is it right for him to deceive me? No, and you should not have tolerated him! If you were in my shoes, how would you feel?”
The two ladies fell silent, but later on, Sofia reluctantly asked, “Are you really moving out? How about the rent? We were supposed to split the rent cost.”
“Why don’t you invite Regina to be your new housemate?” Charlie suggested. She smiled, grabbed her box, and walked past Ashley and Sofia.
While Charlie said that, she never expected her so-called friends to take her suggestion to heart.
“Your new apartment is great!” Charlie’s sister complimented. Charlie gave her sister a virtual tour of the new place through a video call. It was late at night, but she was pumped up. She could not sleep!“I know, it’s clean and spacious. I guess it’s worth $3000. Haha!”“Pfft,” her sister, Freya, scoffed. “I think it’s cheap.”“No! Haha!” Charlie laughed again. “Luxford is not as developed as Halliport. It’s only known for the university. So, rent should not be this expensive, but I’m just glad I found a place to stay.”Charlie smiled as she sat on the sofa. She looked around, the wind blowing on her face from the living room balcony. She said, “I feel like this condo and this view will make me finish the rest of the year in Luxford.”She only had one year left, and it would be really inconvenient to change schools in between. So, maybe, just maybe, she could bear it. Charlie chatted with her family next. They had many questions, especially about her friends, but she said, “I just
###FLASHBACK: TWO DAYS AGO ###“You have to try to get out of trouble! I’m tired of the school calling me every time…” Taylor’s father was ranting about the recent fight he had been involved in at school. Taylor was rarely home, yet this lecture served as his welcome-home speech. Taylor, however, barely paid attention. His phone suddenly rang. He interrupted his father, saying, “Dad, hold on. Tanya is calling.”“Tanya?” Taylor answered the call while his father was still talking. He could not focus and rushed the call altogether. “Taylor - a Charlie King - to co-rent the condo,” Tanya said on the other line. “Charlie?” He did not know why, but a certain Charlie flashed in his head. Charlie was a third-year engineering student, and they were in the same Structural Analysis class. Coincidentally, this Charlie had asked him about any vacancies at Fernwood Residence. So, Taylor immediately assumed it was him. “Yeah, I know Charlie,” Taylor said. It did not help that Tanya was out of
What would happen if the legal wife confronted her husband’s mistress? Riley imagined she would remain composed. After all, she was in the right, and she had every reason to fight, but her body unknowingly shook from anger. It was challenging to contain the hatred she harbored for this woman before her. “What are you doing here?” Claire Monet, the young mistress, asked.Riley Allen Martin, twenty-seven, the legal wife and accomplished jewelry designer, responded fiercely, “I decided to fight for my marriage.”“But you've already agreed to the divorce,” Claire reacted, her big blue eyes narrowing and her face darkening.Ignoring Claire, Riley attempted to walk past her, but Claire grabbed her wrist and pointed out, “I’m pregnant with Brian’s child.”Pulling her arm away, Riley curtly said, “I need to talk to—”"Ahhh! Miss Riley? What did I do to you?” Before Riley knew it, Claire was sprawled on the floor, calling, “Brian, she pushed me! Help! Our baby!"Stupefied, Riley was shocked
"My baby!" Riley woke up with her hand on her belly, her heart beating wildly. "My baby -""Riley, calm down—" Riley turned to a man who was calling her name. She was shocked by his presence and initially could not grasp what he was saying.Next to her hospital bed was Adrian King, the first son of the wealthiest family in the city of Halliport. Though there was a noticeable change in him, Riley immediately recognized him. He was a figure from her past, someone who had become a stranger to both her and her husband. On a normal and happy day, Riley was like a ray of sunshine. She possessed long, wavy blonde hair, a heart-shaped face, and dazzling green eyes. However, that day, Riley did not have to look in the mirror to know she was a mess. Hours earlier, she had been crying her heart out in her car, only to be saved by a stranger. After undergoing medical evaluations and treatments, she passed out due to emotional stress. And now, she found herself back in her miserable state, panicki
In another hospital, Brian Martin held his mistress' hand. Claire was crying in bed, assuming her situation had gotten worse."Brian, I might lose our baby. Your wife, she–she tried to kill our baby," Claire's tear-streaked face bore a look of anguish as she said."I should have just left the city and raised this baby on my own! I'd rather my baby live a peaceful life than be hated by your wife," Claire added. "Why did you have to make me a mistress, Brian? Why?”"I'm sorry, Claire. This was my fault." Brian embraced Claire tightly. He stayed by her side until she cried herself to sleep. Seconds turned into minutes, and Brian continued to stroke her back until he lay her flat on the bed. Brian wiped the tear stains on his lover’s face, feeling helpless. He thought back to the time when he first met Claire.A few months ago, Brian had a business meeting with a VIP client named Mr. Leopard in a high-end KTV bar. They rented a private room, and Claire walked in as the main food attendan
"At six in the morning, Zia came to see Riley first. She reported, "Brian asked me to help check on his... on his..."Zia's words were cut off because Riley resumed, "Claire? He asked you to check on Claire?"Riley frowned, thinking about how Brian blamed her last night. He wouldn’t even listen to her. Then she softly replied, "You should help in any way.""I hate him, and I hate that innocent-looking lover of his even more, but it doesn't mean an unborn child should be deprived of the best medical help. I know you are one of the best new doctors right now, Zia," Riley said. "So, you should. At least he would get off my back, I hope."Riley saw Zia's complicated expression. Zia sighed and replied, "You really are a good person, Riley. My cousin doesn’t deserve you.”Zia took a few steps back and said, "I better go.""Zia?" Riley asked.Looking down, Riley paused and pondered. Then she decided, "I don't want to have anything to do with Brian anymore. I—I don't think you need to tell hi
Riley knew Zia would oppose her leaving, but her mother's life was at stake. The nurses mentioned that Zia was still due to report for work in eight hours. Riley could not wait. So, Riley decided to sign a discharge waiver against medical advice. After leaving the hospital, Riley went to her mother's house to freshen up and change. Later, she arrived at the Halliport General Hospital. "I'm in the lobby. Where are you?" Riley asked Brian over the phone. "In the ICU floor," Brian replied coldly. "Hurry." In the four years of her marriage to Brian, Riley had earned a lot while leading their company's design team. However, she had also spent lavishly on her mother. Renee Allen was a single mother who had made many sacrifices to raise Riley. When Riley began earning decent money, she bought her mother a house, car, jewelry, and other luxuries. Riley also had her own investments. Asset-wise, she could cover the hospital bills herself, but she lacked liquid funds, making Brian paying
Riley's eyes widened in disbelief, her mind struggling to process the unexpected proposal. She blinked repeatedly and probably did the whole blinking cycle three times."Yesterday, I missed something important, so I need a wife. Since you owe me a favor, I was hoping you would marry me," Adrian said. His expression remained calm as he offered marriage, as though it were of little significance."W-what?" Riley gulped. "Marriage for a favor?"Adrian didn't respond. He stared at her intensely, then pointed to his assistant and ordered, "Explain."Riley darted to the man standing behind Adrian. The assistant, whom she had known as Clint Rodriguez, narrated, "Miss Allen, the other day, in order to bring you to the hospital and ensure your health, Mister King missed his engagement party with his fiancée, Leni Eros, the heir to the Eros Empire in Dowel City.""And because Mister King missed the engagement party, Miss Leni Eros canceled their engagement," Clint added. "So, Mister King needs a

I have been good to you for the past two years.” She pointed at him, adding, “You know it!” Then Charlie eyed Luke’s friends, including their girlfriends. ‘I love you, Charlie, and you’ll always have a special place in my heart, but I need space. Let’s break up,’ Luke’s words the other night rang in Charlie’s head. ‘I need to focus on my studies and basketball. Scouts will be in town this year, and this might be my only chance to get into the NBA. I hope you understand, Charlie.’He meant that basketball would be his life from that moment on, and she was nothing more than a distraction. To think, Charlie was ready to introduce Luke to her family. Luke would have been overwhelmed, but sadly, he ended it before he could truly know the real Charlie Rae King. Charlie was watching the game between Luxford University’s The Atomic Heat and The Wall Street Warriors. Their school had four basketball teams, and each year, they competed for the chance to represent the school at the National College Basketball Association. Luke Sullivan was the captain of The Wall Street Warriors. They represented the business courses, whereas The Atomic Heat rep
Hi Guys, Glad to be back. While writing Riley’s book, I had initially wanted to write Charlie and Freya’s story continuously. However, I ended up taking a break. Hence, we will be cutting them into Book 2 and Book 3. Still, the books will be attached to Riley and Adrian's novel. Unless I get sick or have an emergency, I won’t take a break in between, and the stories won’t be long. Since I already had Charlie’s story in mind, we will start with her. I aim to finish Charlie’s story by the end of February, and then we will begin with Freya’s story in March. We will skip years into the timeline when Charlie is already in college, experiencing an independent life in another city. Ladies and gentlemen, I am both nervous and excited to present to you, “The Bad Boy Next Room.” This is a genre that I have always wanted to write—Young Adult. So, here it goes, and I hope you will love it. ***Blurb:“True pain doesn’t come from enemies but from those we hold dear.” Twenty-one-year-old Cha
“Happy 18th Birthday, Freya!”The crowd cheered while Freya stood on the stage. Her parents, Adrian and Riley, were beside her. Freya embodied youthful elegance and charm, a rising star in high society at eighteen. She dreamed of taking over her mother’s jewelry business one day.In her late forties, Riley’s presence was captivating and serene. Her thick, golden blonde hair cascaded in soft waves, and fine lines around her bright eyes added wisdom and warmth to her beauty.Adrian stood tall and confident, his well-built physique reflecting years of self-care. His long, tousled dark-brown hair framed his ruggedly handsome face. Holding the microphone, Adrian expressed, “Today is my first princess’ 18th birthday. I could not be happier for Freya.”With a smile, he turned to Freya and added, “Freya, since you are now eighteen, you can start dating -”Adrian paused and noticed Freya’s excitement. He smirked and restarted, “You can start dating when you are twenty-five.”“Hahaha!”“Twenty
Part I: APTAdrian and Riley visited the doctor’s clinic when the triplets were over two years old. Charlie, Jasper, and Kian got the flu. When the triplets entered the doctor’s clinic, they saw a cute baby girl. The baby was just six months old and was sitting on her mother’s lap. “Baby!” Charlie said first. She ran to the baby and held her hand. “Oh, no. Charlie. Don’t bother the baby,” Riley said. She tried to hold Charlie away, but her daughter wanted to play with the infant.“I’m sorry,” Riley said to the baby’s mother. “It’s okay,” the baby’s mother said with a smile. “Your daughter loves babies. Does she want another sibling?”The suggestion made Riley choke. The experience of having triplets was enough for her. She loved her children, but raising them simultaneously had been tough. Sadly, Riley did not get a chance to respond to the mother. Kian and Jasper all rushed to the baby with Charlie. “Hi, Baby!” Kian said. Jasper pinched the infant on the cheek. “Guys, be carefu
Dear Readers, Thank you for your unwavering support and for being part of this incredible journey. I won't say it's the end because we will still hear from Riley and Adrain. However, Chapter 262 concludes Book 1 of Divorced My Cheating Husband, Married A Billionaire. Book 2 will cover Riley and Adrian's lives years later and focus on their children. Yes, this includes their daughter, Freya. In the coming days, I will write a preview and some bonus chapters using the author's notes. Please watch out for it. Now, the question is when will Book 2 start?I have things I need to take care of—for my kids, my baby, and myself. I have been putting off my follow-up check-up and need to get it done. (Somebody will get scolded by the doctor, and that's me. :))We will also be moving back to our old house, which will take a lot of time.I don't want to underdeliver, so I will wait to give an estimated time. I just want to get the abovementioned tasks out of the way first before coming back with
